Congratulations on your purchase of the Politec perimeter barrier. This device guarantees a
durable and reliable operation if installed properly. For correct and effective use, this instruction
manual must be read carefully.
The sensor is designed to detect intrusion and activate the alarm; it is not a device
that prevents an intrusion. Politec is not responsible for damage, injury or loss caused
by accidents, theft, force majeure (including a momentary lightning-induced surge),
abuse, improper or incorrect use, faulty installation or improper maintenance.
The double-optical infrared perimeter barrier consists of a receiver and an infrared transmitter.
The operation is based on the "AND" logic operation: in other words, the alarm is activated only
in case of simultaneous interruption of two overlapping beams.
This barrier finds its ideal use for perimeter protection of indoor and outdoor areas.
It is equipped with a frequency selection system that allows you to install multiple barriers on the
same site without interfering with each other. The main characteristics of this barrier are:
•Adjustable intervention time that allows to adapt to the characteristics of the site to be
protected;
•Adjustment of the protection beam angle both vertically and horizontally;
•Arrangement for wall mounting, pole and aluminum columns;
•Optical alignment with viewfinder and signal measurement points;
•Selection of the operating frequency on 4 channels to avoid interference with other barriers;
•Signaling contact for barrier opening.
Warnings
The assembly, the installation of the barrier and the connection to the electrical
network must be performed by expert and qualified personnel, in compliance with
the rules on electrical installations.

This installation manual contains important information regarding installation safety: all instructions
must be read before installing.
Keep this manual for future use.
In case of doubt during the installation, avoid making unnecessary attempts but contact the assistance
service.
•Use of these products for purposes other than those specified in these instructions is prohibited.
•It is forbidden to make changes to the components of the product, if it is not described in this
manual in order to lose the warranty right; operations of this type can only cause malfunctions;
Politec declines all responsibility for malfunctions or damage caused by modified products.
•Depending on the specific use situation, check the possible need for additional devices: detectors
or signaling devices.
•During the installation, assembly and use of the product, do not allow foreign parts (solids, metals
or liquids) to penetrate inside the open devices.
•Responsibility of the manufacturer: Politec declines all responsibility for failures resulting from
incorrect installation; lack of maintenance, incorrect assembly or use.
•Politec is also not responsible for incorrect or incomplete operation of the product or failure to
detect intrusion.
•Guarantee (summary of conditions): Politec guarantees its products for a period of 2 years from
the production date. The guarantee is applied to the direct purchaser of Politec; there is no
guarantee for the end user who should contact his installer or dealer in the event of a fault.
•Exclusion from the guarantee: the aesthetic parts are excluded from the warranty; parts subject to
normal wear and parts subject to normal consumption, for example batteries, batteries and
accumulators.
3.1 Additional warnings for devices powered by mains voltage
This manual is intended for use by qualified technical personnel only for installation.
•By assessing the dangers that may occur during installation and use of the system, for total safety
it is necessary that the installation be carried out in full compliance with laws, methods, rules and
regulations.
•Before accessing the internal clamps of the product it is necessary to disconnect all the power
supply circuits.
•In the case of automatic circuit breakers or fuses, the fault must be identified and repaired before
restoring them.
3.2 Warnings for the installation
•Verify that all the material to be used is in excellent condition and suitable for use.
•The individual components are designed according to the class III environment: protected outdoor
use; temperature between -25 and + 50 ° C, average humidity 75% with peaks of 30 days per year
between 85 and 95%; without condensation.
•Before proceeding with the installation, check the environmental class of the products in the
chapter "technical characteristics".
•Check, comparing with the values indicated in the paragraph "technical characteristics", that the
range of the devices is equal to or less than the physical distance between the barriers.
•Check that the barrier is positioned in areas protected from impacts, in flat areas and on fixed fixing
supports to prevent oscillations.
•Do not place the system components near strong heat sources as they could be damaged.
•Each barrier has its own operating principle: check the instructions for choosing the appropriate
position in the respective operating instructions.

5.1 Predisposition of the parts of the barrier before installation
Since the communication between the barriers can take place by wire, wirelessly and their alignment
can be done by optical means, it is advisable to check all the component parts of the barriers and their
possible accessories immediately and proceed with the installation, only later.
5.2 It is advisable to perform:
•the configuration of the devices on a table;
•control of the operation of the optical and acoustic alignment
•the final fixing of each device;
•the preparation and implementation of electrical connections.
In order to avoid errors, problems of operationand installation, it is advisable to proceed as follows:
a) Arrange all products on the table with the package open;
b) For the low absorption barrier version for wireless models with universal electronic card slot, insert
and connect the radio transmitter connect it to the barrier receiver board
c) Feeding barriers and planning them
d) Test the functioning of the barriers;
e) Support (without fixing) the barriers at the points provided;
f) Support (without fixing) all the other devices at the points provided;
g) Check for each barrier that there is sufficient field for radio communication (for wireless versions);
h) Fix the barriers permanently.
Before proceedingwith the installation, it is necessary to check the integrity of the product, the
suitability of the chosen model and the suitability of the environmentfor the installation:
• Check that all the conditions of use are within the "limits of use" and in the "Technical characteristics
of the product".
• Check that the environment chosen for installation is compatible with the total dimensions of the
product.
• Check that the surface chosen for the installation of the product is solid to guarantee a stable and
adequately protected against possible impacts or atmospheric agents.

6.1 Installation and height of installation
Position the barrier considering the type of surrounding environment and the protection distance for
correct and effective operation. Position it in such a way that there are no obstacles within its range
(trees / plants or objects that can swing or move in wind or rain.
Position the barrier so that sunlight does not directly hit it near the sensors.
However, it is necessary to take into consideration the diffusion of the specific beam of each model, to
avoid reflection phenomena of the rays caused by the ground or by adjacent objects.
The ALES barrier can be installed either on the wall,
using the fixing plate or on a pole, adding the "U"
bracket (Pole 48-50).
•Remove the cover by unscrewing the screw on the
front
•Loosen the plate locking screw and remove it by
sliding it down against the base.
Pole mounting
•The supplied brackets allow mounting on poles
with a diameter of 4 - 4.5 cm.
•Drill a 8mm diameter hole on the pole for the
passage of the connecting cable
•Pass the connecting cable through the hole and
through the opening in the fixing plate
•Position the U-shaped brackets on the pole and fix
them to the plate with the supplied screws
•Make connections in the terminal board
•After checking the alignment and correct
operation, replace the cover and tighten the
locking screw firmly.
Wall mounting
•Pass the connecting cable through the hole in the
fixing plate and fix the plate to the wall with the
screws
•Make connections in the terminal board

6.2 Installation and height of installation
To make a correct installation of the product it is necessary to remove all the possible obstacles
present in the section between the transmitter and receiver column (trees, grass, etc.), using for the
installation unmovable walls or poles firmly anchored to the ground.
It is necessary to always use shielded alarm cables for the correct sizing connections (Ø 0.22 for short
distances, Ø 0.5 for long distances), always taking the necessary precautions for electronic equipment.
In order not to alter the performance and the degree of protection (IP) of the barrier it is necessary to
take the necessary precautions, taking care not to alter the gaskets, plastics and mechanical parts of
the product, using the original accessories.
In case of repairs covered by warranty (2 years) but with obvious signs of incorrect installation, Politec
s.r.l. reserves the right to decide on any repair costs.
N.B .: Avoid installing the receiver in a position where the optics can be radiated directly from the
sun.
Wall mounting
•Insert the alarm cable with a shield in the hole in the plate and fix it to the wall with the screws
•Pass the cable inside the gasket placed in the base unit and anchor it on the fixing plate. Make
connections to the terminal board.
•After calibration and verification of correct operation, reposition the cover.
Pole mounting
•Insert the shielded alarm cable into the hole in the plate and secure the pole plate using the "U"
bracket.
•Pass the cable inside the gasket placed in the base unit and anchor it on the fixing plate. Make
connections to the terminal board.

7.1 Introduction to barriers
These barriers are characterized by two components that send infrared rays to each other (or an
emitter and a receiver depending on the perimeter to be protected); in this way a sort of barrier is
created that is invisible to the human eye.

Signal interruption: ALARM
An active infrared barrier can contain several transmitting and receiving stages inside specific
columns. The infrared barriers have multiple controls that significantly limit false alarms, but if one
or more beams are interrupted, the alarm is triggered.

8.1 Accruals before installation
Before placing the barriers in an outdoor environment, bear in mind that the infrared beam has a
conical shape: the more the barriers are far apart and the greater the diameter of the cone when it
arrives. In order not to generate false alarms you must place the barriers away from reflecting
surfaces, far from walls or elements that can attenuate the signal.
DO NOT place the barriers if there are plants, bushes or fixed objects (table, gazebo, etc.) that
block the signal and create "shadow area". Leave a corridor of 50 cm

9.1 Type of cable
The wiring requires the 12Vd shielded power cable (ex: 2x0.5 + 8x0.22) with the metal sock connected
to the negative to prevent the introduction of AC voltage disturbances on the barrier.
The wiring requires to SEPARATE the 12Vdc power cable (ex .: 2x0.5 + Nx0.22), from the power supply
cable of the 24Vac heaters (ex .. 2x0.75) to prevent the introduction of AC voltage disturbances on the
light curtain.
N.B. it is absolutely necessary to screen the cable which supplies the 12 Vdc power supply and
ground the metal braid.
The sizing of the cables depends on the consumption of the columns and the resistance of the cable
itself according to the distances involved.
The table shows the cable sections and their distances to ensure optimal performance using the LAR22
power supply (12Vcc-2,5A / 24Vac-300W) and an ALES barrier.

For correct alignment, once the barriers have been installed, orient the optical groups of the
transmitters and the optical groups of the receivers in each other's direction. Adjusting the lens holder
horizontally through manual movement after loosening the locking screw on the joint, and vertically
through the front screw located to the left of the lens.

11.1 Calibration through SMA system
Calibration can be improved by using the supplied filter.

11.2 Alignment test
•Remove the cover and power the unit electrically
•Set the parameters related to the different functions
•Adjust the inclination of the optics
•Dip 6 in ON on the RX column
•Activation of LED and BUZZER on the RX column
Orientate the optic placed in the TX column towards the RX, vertically and horizontally acting on the
adjustment screws (horizontal and vertical) until finding the maximum alignment. The maximum
alignment condition will be reached when the high intensity leds will be lit steady and the buzzer will
emit a continuous sound. The partial or total misalignment condition is signaled by the infrequent
flashing of the LEDs and by the non-continuous buzzer whistle.

•The partial or total misalignment condition is signaled by the infrequent flashing of the LEDs and
by the non-continuous buzzer whistle.
N.B .: the buzzer's fixed sound has a maximum duration of 3 minutes. To obtain a good alignment it is
necessary to perform a COMPLETE rotation on the horizontal axis of the RECEIVER optic, thus
performing the SCANNING of the optical signal.
•Once calibrated, tighten the horizontal adjustment screw and exit the test function, returning the
DIP to OFF on the RX board. Two beeps will indicate the end of the TEST function.
At the end of the operation, remove the screen that acts as an attenuator, having the certainty of
having found the optimal value.
NB: If the barriers are to be aligned with optical
synchronism to have the absolute certainty that the
alignment of the optics is real (and therefore there
are no false alignments due to photocells of gates)
cover the optics with the hand: if the beep is
continuous, it means that the beam sees another
source of infrared.

To compose barriers or barriers with more than one pair of ALES, it is necessary, to avoid interference,
to assign a different channel to each of them. To do so, set the dipswitch of the desired channel to ON.
The channel must be the same from both the transmitter and the receiver side
(ex. CH_TX1→CH_RX1 – CH_TX2→CH_RX2 – CH_TX3→CH_RX3 – CH_TX4→CH_RX4).

Test the TX1 and RX1 optics and proceed with the calibration as explained.
REPEAT the calibration on RX2, RX3 and RX4. Repeat the operation for each TX optic on each RX.
Make sure that TX1 is still aligned with RX1.

It is possible to set the barrier for the rapid
alarm (crossing on a run) or slow (crossing
with walking).
By adjusting the potentiometer
counterclockwise, the trip time up to 500ms
is increased. In this condition the alarm of a
person crossing the barrier is guaranteed,
with the advantage of excluding the
possibility of false alarms such as animals.
Adjusting the potentiometer clockwise
decreases the trip time up to 50ms. In this
condition the alarm of a person who
crosses the barrier is guaranteed to run at
maximum speed.

I can’t find alignment
•
Verify that there are no obstacles of any kind
interposed
between RX and TX and that site compliance does
not
represent an impediment;
•
Verify that the power supply on the terminal board
is
sufficient;
•
Use the shielded cable for power supply by connecting
the
braid to the ground (it is recommended, in case of
a
persistent problem, to connect the alarm and power
/
tamper with two separate shielded cables);

Repeated false alarms
•
