Polycom QSX User manual

Simple, Secure, Convenient.
Polycom QSX allows users to instantly share a live view of a computer screen with remote locations
over the Web, or with other QSX or VSX locations. It’s an easy and secure Web conferencing appliance
that anyone can use. There’s no need to learn new applications, upload documents, pay monthly
service fees, or pre-schedule.
Simply connect your computer to the QSX VGA cable and share content, including presentation slides,
business applications, the Internet, images, or anything else you would like to show from your computer
screen. The QSX user interface provides a convenient information screen that shows presenter/viewer
locations and connection information, as well as the Web address and login information for remote participants.
QSX is an easy-to-use Web conferencing appliance for any meeting environment. In a conference room,
the QSX allows you to share any content on your computer. When connected to a conference phone,
it offers even better performance and connectivity. The QSX is also a versatile, always-on conferencing
tool for other environments where you might use a projector.
Easiest way to share content – up to 10 participants can view your computer screen from any standard
Web browser. Connecting to other QSXs is even easier – just connect a SoundStation conference phone to
your QSX and dial another SoundStation that is connected to a QSX to automatically start sharing content.
Secure – By sharing content via QSX, you reduce the risk of sensitive or proprietary information, ordinarily
sent via e-mail attachments or Web conferencing, getting into the wrong hands.
Cost-Effective – QSX has no monthly service fees or per-minute charges.

worldwide use and prefer Polycom conferencing solutions. Because when people work together, great things
happen. See how you, too, can achieve great things with Polycom QSX.
Polycom®QSX™2.0
A New Approach – The always-on, flexible
Web Conferencing appliance.
Benefits
Easy one-time setup – Simply plug in
your IP connection, power and VGA cables.
Easy Web interface for additional optional
configuration.
Easy to use – Instant content sharing
without wasting time on downloading
applications, uploading documents,
advance scheduling or user training.
Open architecture – Works with any
content, any phone systems and any type
of computer or VGA input source – even
those belonging to presenters who can’t
get access to the network.
Multi-point capability – Each QSX
session shares content directly with up
to ten sites per QSX via a standard web
browser. Scale to even more sites by
connecting directly with up to four other
QSX units or leverage a Polycom MGC
conference bridge for large scale meetings.
Cost effective – The QSX provides
unlimited content sharing. It pays for
itself quickly because there are no
monthly charges or per-minute fees.
Content security – Keep complete
control over your document. AES
(Advanced Encryption Standard) media
encryption on QSX to QSX calls, secure
login for Web browser access, and a
host of other security features ensure
your content is protected.

QSX is powerful, secure and flexible enough
to be used in any situation that requires
content sharing, from small group collaboration
to large-scale meetings. These three scenarios
offer examples of how QSX makes collaboration
simple, secure and convenient.
Scenario #1: Regional Sales Manager with
Frequent Web Meetings
Sue, a Regional Sales Manager for a software
company, holds frequent meetings with prospects
over the phone and wants an easy way to
share presentation slides and demonstrate the
basic features of the company's new software
application. Using QSX, she can share this
content over the Web with up to 10 participants
simultaneously.
While on an audio call with several members
of the customer's selection committee who
are located in different offices, Sue simply
plugs her laptop into the QSX and provides the
IP address and password of her QSX to the
participants. The QSX is configured for password-
protected access across the corporate firewall.
The customers then use any standard Web browser
to enter the IP address and a one-time password to
view the content through their browser. That’s it –
no pre-scheduling or downloads, and no service
charges or other fees.

Scenario #2: Project Manager at
Large Multinational Company
QSX is an ideal tool for frequent collaboration
between geographically-dispersed teams.
Bob is a project manager at a large multinational
company, and holds frequent meetings with
development teams in the United States, Germany,
Japan and India.
Each location has a QSX connected to a Polycom
SoundStation conference phone. During Bob’s
bi-weekly team meetings, each location dials into
the conference bridge using their SoundStation.
Each QSX automatically connects to the others
using a modem channel over the phone line to
exchange IP addresses and establish a connection
over the data network. Bob's location presses the
Share button on the QSX, which presents the
content of the connected laptop to the other
locations. When it is time for the other teams to
present their status, they simply press the Share
button to present their content. Up to 5 QSXs can
connect this way. All data shared between the QSX
systems uses 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption
Standard) encryption for strong security.
In addition, any team members who are traveling
can view the same content over the Web. Up to
5 QSX locations and 10 Web viewers can connect
simultaneously. For frequent collaboration
between groups and locations, QSX-to-QSX
connections offer the best performance and easiest
way to share content.

Scenario #3: Director at a Large Bank
QSX leverages your investment in Polycom
products for easy content sharing. Kevin is a
Director at a large regional bank that holds
weekly meetings will loan officers from up to
50 branches. Sensitive financial information is
shared at these meetings, so security is critical.
Kevin has a QSX, as do many of the branches.
Some of the branches do not have QSX, but do
have Polycom video systems.
By utilizing a Polycom MGC conference bridge,
multiple QSXs and video systems can connect
together to share content.
Using a Polycom MGC conference bridge, Kevin
can easily run his weekly meeting. The MGC
automatically connects with 25 locations that
have QSX, as well as 10 locations that have
Polycom video conferencing systems. Ten additional
participants, who work from home or are traveling,
connect securely over the Web through the bank’s

Note: Meeting scaling capabilities are dependent on MGC bandwidth and port availability.
