Welcome to the new world of Microsoft®Lync™Phone Edition
communications software. With Lync Phone Edition, you have voice
communication capabilities not available with your traditional phone. For
example, with Lync Phone Edition, you can view call logs, join meetings, and
make Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls. In short, you can do everything
that you can do today with your regular phone, and more.
This guide explains how to use Lync Phone Edition with the following phones:

Sign Into Your Phone
If Lync is installed on your computer, you can simplify the phone sign-in
process and make and receive Lync Phone Edition calls from your computer
by using the USB cable to connect your phone to your computer. See Sign In
Using Microsoft Lync.
If you do not have Lync installed on your computer, you can sign in to Lync
Phone Edition by using a sign-in personal identification number (PIN).
However, you will have limited access to certain features, such as voice mail,
calendar, and call logs, as well as reduced functionality. See Sign In Using a
PIN.
Sign In Using Microsoft Lync
If Lync is installed on your computer, connect your phone to your computer
as shown next (this screen displays on your phone).
The connection is detected and you are prompted for your user name and
password on your computer.
If you use Lync with Office 365, type in your user name as
[email protected] (for example, [email protected]). If you don't use
Office 365, type your user name as domain\username (for example,
contoso\bobk).

The sign-in process starts. The following screens displays on your phone.
Sign In Using a PIN
You must create a PIN if Lync is not installed on your computer.
To sign in on your phone:
1If you do not have a computer connected to the phone, from the Welcome
screen, select No.
Note
If you have already configured Lync to use another audio device, for example a
headset, you must change the selected device in Lync. On your computer, open
Lync, and, on the lower left part of the Lync main window, click the Primary Device
icon, click Audio Device Settings, and then select Lync Phone Edition as your
audio device.

2Enter your phone number or extension, and then select Next.
For example, enter “12345” twice.
Make a Call
In addition to the standard way of making a phone call (by picking up the
handset and dialing), you can make calls as follows:
•Calling from the Contacts screen on your phone
•Calling by searching for a contact using the keypad
•Calling from Microsoft Lync on your computer
To call from the Contacts screen on your phone:
1From your phone’s Home screen, select the Contacts icon.
2From the Contact Groups screen, select the group your contact is in.
If your phone is locked, you must unlock it before you can make a call. To unlock it,
select Unlock.
Press and hold the 0 key to dial a plus (+) sign when making international calls.

3Use the up and down arrow keys on the phone to select the contact, and
then select Call.
To call by searching for a contact using the keypad:
1Press the numbers on the phone keypad that correspond to the contact
name or the phone extension. For example, to find ‘Tony Smith,’ begin
pressing 8669*76484, where ‘*’ is the space between the first and last
name.
2When you find the contact you want to call, select Call.
To call from Microsoft Lync on your computer:
1Open Lync on your computer. In the Microsoft Lync main window, click
Group, and then click the group the contact is in.
Make sure the optional USB cable that connects the phone to your
computer is installed.

2Click the Call button next to the contact you want to call.
View a Contact Card
A contact card provides details about a contact’s availability and presence.
Depending on the access level that a contact grants you, you may see the
contact’s phone numbers, schedule information, the phone number of the
most recent call, and a personal note if the contact has written one.
To view a contact card:
1From your phone’s Home screen, select the Contacts icon.
