2General information

If modifications by the manufacturer should require a change, this will be indicated by the manufacturer
by a new version number.
Modifications of products
Product modifications may generally only be carried out with original parts from the manufacturer and
by authorized specialist personnel.
Subsequent changes to the instructions for use due to modifications must be inserted into the
instructions for use by the operator at the specified location.

If any of the following occurrences show up during training, the session should be stopped immediately
in order to avoid overloading the human organism:
•shortness of breath, feeling of anxiety
•Angina pectoris (seizure-like pain in the chest)

•circulatory problems

•Heart rate drops sharply
•Strongly decreasing / rapidly increasing blood pressure
•Known electrolyte disorder
2.1 Description of the product line
The compass® MTT product line comprises three version of cable columns, the S1 (Explosive) pulley as
a wall model, the S1 (Explosive) pulley as a floor model and the S3 (Vertical) vertical pulley as a wall
model.
The load dosage and /-control for the workout is carried out via a stack or plug-in weights, which is
mounted behind a hard-wearing fabric covering. The standing models can be moved to change the
distance between two cable columns or one cable column and other training equipment by means of
an attached handle at the rear of the equipment and the attached rollers. The wall models can only be
shifted using the optionally available shifting device.
The three compass® MTT cable columns can be used to address a wide variety of muscle groups for the
upper or lower extremities. It is also possible to train the stabilizing trunk muscles at different levels of
movement.

3Intended purpose
3.1 weight block
The weight pin is secured against falling out by appropriate mechanism (magnet or mechanical fixation).
For this it is necessary that the weight pin is always inserted completely. Only original weight pins from
proxomed may be used!
3.2 compass® MTT S1 med. explosive Rope pull wall, Art. 10120100
The compass® S1 cable column provides a wide range of training options for neuromuscular training
within the medical training therapy (MTT).
This device can be used to train the most varied muscle groups of the upper or lower extremities as well
as the stabilizing trunk muscles at different levels of movement. This makes it possible to train functional
movement patterns in the muscle chains from variable starting positions. The rope pulleys are used in
medical training therapy for shoulder, hip, knee and ankle joint rehabilitation as well as for stabilization
in spinal damage and injuries. In addition, a large number of coordination training exercises can be
carried out on wire rope pulleys. A special deflection process using six rollers prevents the weight plates
from accelerating themselves during training. The resulting friction is minimized by the long rope path
and the low up and down movement of the weights. Depending on the patient's level of performance
and rehabilitation phase, this enables exercises with slow, controlled movement control as well as fast-
acting functional and technical training.
The optionally available training benches of the compass® series are particularly suitable for training in
a seated position.
Specific patient positioning
The positioning of the patient depends on the planned movement to be performed. The starting position
for the exercise can be in a standing, sitting or lying position, with the person being trained in the
respective positions facing the machine or to the side. Depending on the type of movement, the height
of the handles or foot straps attached to the carabiners on the front holding bar or other adapters can
be adapted.
It is possible to choose a low position, for example for lower limb exercises, and a high position, for
example for upper limb exercises. To adjust the clamping screw, loosen the locking bolt on the guide
rail handle and move the roller to the desired position. Then clamp again or let it snap into place. The
movable rope roll holders automatically adapt to the movement sequence.
It can be trained on one or both sides. Depending on the training goal, you can train in the abdominal,
supine, lateral, sitting or standing position.
Attention: The weights on the weight stack must always be inserted in
the unloaded state. Additional weights may not be applied unless
authorized by proxomed.

Due to their small weight increment, the rope pulley can be used in all phases of therapy. The multiple
deflection of the compass® S1 wire rope pulley ensures an even finer weight grading. The weight is
changed by inserting the pin into the desired training weight on the weight stack.
The accompanying therapist should check the positioning of the patient before and during training.
3.3 compass® MTT S1 med. explosive Rope pull stand, Art. 10120100 + 10305100

The compass® S3 vertical pull provides a wide range of training options for neuromuscular training
within the medical training therapy (MTT).
These machines can be used to train a wide variety of muscle groups, mainly in the upper and lower
extremities, as well as the stabilizing trunk muscles at various levels of movement. This makes it possible
to train functional movement sequences in the muscle chains from variable starting positions. The
vertical pulley mechanism are used in medical training therapy for shoulder, hip, knee and ankle joint
rehabilitation as well as for stabilization in spinal damage and injuries. In addition, a large number of
coordination training exercises can be carried out vertical pulldown.
The optionally available training benches of the compass® series are particularly suitable for training in
a seated position.
Specific patient positioning
The positioning of the patient depends on the planned movement to be performed. Depending on the
type of movement, the height of the vertical pull rod attached to the boom or the height of the handles
can be adapted. It is possible to choose a low position, e.g. for exercises of the lower extremities (relief
exercises) and a high position, e.g. for typical vertical pull exercises of the upper extremities. Depending
on the training objective and patient status, training can take place in a seated or standing position.
Handles and foot straps can be attached to the snap hook of the pull rope at different heights. To adjust
the starting height/release the locking bolt on the guide rail handle and move the rod to the desired
position and clamp it again or lock it in place.
The weight is changed by inserting the pin into the desired training weight on the weight stack. The
accompanying therapist should check the positioning of the patient before and during training.

4Safety and security
4.1 Correct use - User
Before starting the training program, the patient should warm up on an ergometer, and prepare the
corresponding muscles for the strain with subsequent stretching exercises.
If mobility is restricted or if pain is present, training may only be carried out in the possible or pain-free
range of motion. In this case, the range of movement can be defined individually and exactly by the
range of motion limiter (optional) and the selected starting angle. If symptoms occur, discontinue the
exercise and consult a doctor, if it is necessary.
The movement must be slow and controlled, and the correct execution of the movement must be
ensured. The intensity of exercise should be low at the beginning of the workout. The load needs to be
adapted gradually in order to avoid overloading, which can lead to problems and pain.
The weight can only be moved explosively during fast-performing exercises with persons who are able
to realize a corresponding load. The S1 wire rope pulley is particularly suitable for this purpose. However,
a controlled movement must also be guaranteed with this training method in order to avoid incorrect
loads and injuries. As a rule, concentric and eccentric ways of working the musculature are combined.
Depending on the training goal, individual muscles and muscle groups, but also muscle chains, are
functionally trained. Different levels of movement are included in the training. In particular, the various
PNF patterns, in which the patient trains muscle chains in diagonals, are excellent to perform.
Different training methods are used. If you train according to the repetition method, several exercise
series with corresponding rest will be carried out. The intensity of stress depends on the excepted ability
of the injured structure, the rehabilitation phase the patient is in and the training objective.
The first step is to adapt and accustom the injured structure (connective tissue, cartilage, tendons,
ligaments and joint capsule) to a weight load with low training intensity, before the training of special
strength skills - such as strength endurance or maximum strength - begins with increasing intensity. The
high coordinative demands to the patient, especially with three-dimensional movement patterns, require
special care and monitoring during the training process in order to avoid unwanted false loads.

4.2 Correct use - Location
Note that the load-bearing capacity of the subfloor must correspond to the weight of the equipment.
Use the units only in dry rooms free of seawater air (<65% humidity) and avoid temperatures below 5
degrees Celsius and above 45 degrees Celsius.
4.3 Application duration
According to the doctor's instructions.
4.4 Prohibited use
•Incorrect exercise and excessive training can result in serious injury or death.
•The training must be stopped immediately if the user feels faint or dizzy. In addition, a doctor
should be contacted.
•Too much strain of the practising person is to be avoided.
•The device should only be operated by trained personnel.
•Before using the device for the first time, the user should be examined by a doctor.
•All information contained in the instructions for use must be followed.
•The device should not be used contrary to its intended use.
•If one or more of the above contraindications apply to the practicing person, please do not use
the device.
•A permanent monitoring of the trainee by medical personnel is necessary as soon as there are
relative contraindications.
•No user of the device may be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or narcotics.
•Make sure that auxiliary accessories, accessories, cables etc. are not within the range of the
movement execution.

4.5 General warnings
•The training equipment may only be used in areas where access and supervision is specifically
controlled by the owner. The scope of the supervision depends on the users and their degree
of reliability, age, experience, etc. The training equipment may only be used under the
supervision of authorized specialist personnel (e.g. certified sports instructors, physiotherapists)
or after comprehensive instruction by appropriate personnel.
•Do not allow disabled persons, children and persons with cardiovascular problems to train
without assistance or supervision.
•Do not leave children unattended near or using the equipment.
•During training nobody should go near the moving parts (weight block, etc.). A safety distance
(free space) of 1.3 meters around the device or the exercising person should be ensured for
persons and objects in order to eliminate any risk of injury from swiveling parts during an
exercise (handles, drawbars).
•The device may only be used for its intended purpose.
•In the event of any error, the device must be left immediately and taken out of service. The error
should be detected and corrected. If necessary, the manufacturer/service should be informed or
consulted.
•Damage that impairs the function or could lead to injuries must be repaired, otherwise no
liability will be assumed.
•Damage to the device and/or resulting injuries to persons resulting from faulty attachment of
the device to walls or faulty assembling of feet are not covered by the guarantee or liability.
•Do not put your hands between the movable bearings/rolls. Do not touch the hauling rope
during an exercise.

4.6 Safety instructions
•It must be ensured, especially when changing the position of the device without dismantling it,
that the safe standing on level ground is guaranteed.
•The protective cover must not be dismantled.
The wire rope pulley only comply with the statutory regulations with protective cladding.
•The warranty expires, if modifications are made to the device or if electronic devices for control
and measurement are attached that have not been carried out by specialist personnel authorized
of the manufacturer.
•Defective parts of the device must be replaced immediately - it is advisable not to use the device
until it has been repaired. Only use original accessories, otherwise no liability is assumed.
•Danger of falling: Please note the height of the stand (stand model).
5Residual risk/adverse effects
After the risk reduction, only 5 of over 71 causes remain in the "largely acceptable" range. There is a
residual risk of unintentional overloading of the patient due to incorrect operation, assessment or use,
which may result in damage to muscles and/or joints, tendons and ligaments. Furthermore, there
remains a residual risk of a person falling in the area of the standing foot in case of carelessness, which
can result in skin abrasions, bruises, fractures and, in the worst case, death.
Even the most optimal hardware security concepts cannot completely rule out a failure of the hardware
and thus a theoretically possible overload of the test person.
Furthermore, it cannot be excluded that unforeseen or prohibited use may give rise to other risks not
previously considered or that risks previously considered may not have been correctly assessed. It is also
possible that other risks may occur during the daily use of the device.
In the risk analysis, the "current status" of the device was evaluated. After the evaluation and validation
of the product, the probability of occurrence of an unacceptable risk is very low. The device (its design,
function and intended use) does not represent - under normal conditions - unacceptable risks for the
practising person, user or third persons.

6Preparation
6.1 Transport
The devices are usually delivered completely assembled by our employees or by a forwarding agent. In
rare cases it may be necessary for transport reasons to ship the equipment partially dismantled (e.g.
stand versions). In these cases, please use the corresponding assembly instructions and follow the
instructions given there or the instructions within this operating manual!
6.2 Storage
The storage location of the devices should be dry, seawater-free and dust-protected and should have a
storage temperature between +5°C and +45°C. Protect the equipment from shocks, scratches and
moisture.
6.3 Installation
During installation, it is important to know the maximum amount of movement to be achieved for each
version to be installed. A distinction is made between the free-standing version fixed to the wall and the
combination of the cable column with the shifting device. In general, it must be ensured that the distance
of 1 meter - based on the range of movement - to other devices is maintained during installation.
The following illustrations clearly show the space requirements to be expected for the individual versions.

approx. 12 m² must be expected here.
