ThankyouforpurchasingaRaymarineproduct.WearesureyourST60+
instrumentwillgiveyoumanyyearsoftrouble-freeoperation.
ThishandbookdescribeshowtoinstallandusetheRaymarineST60+Speed
instrument.Thisinstrumentprovidesaccuratespeed,log,tripandtimer
information,onahighqualityLiquidCrystalDisplay(LCD).Theinstrumentis
constructedinaruggedweather-proofedcasetoprovidereliableperformance,
evenunderthemostdemandingconditions.
Datainputs
TheST60+Speedinstrumentreceivesdataeitherfromanappropriatespeed
transducerand/orfromaSeaTalkinstrumentationsystem.
SeaTalk
SeaTalkenablesanumberofcompatibleinstrumentstooperateasasingle,
integratednavigationalsystem.InstrumentsinaSeaTalksystemarelinkedby
meansofasinglecable,whichfeedsbothpoweranddata.Instrumentscan
thereforebeaddedtothesystembypluggingthemintothenetwork.SeaTalkis
flexibleenoughtoadapttoanynumberofcompatibleinstrumentswithout
requiringacentralprocessor.SeaTalkcanalsocommunicateviaaninterface,with
non-SeaTalkequipmentusingtheinternationally-acceptedNationalMarine
ElectronicsAssociation(NMEA)protocol.
InaSeaTalksystem,eachinstrumentcanbeeitheramasterordedicatedrepeater
unit.Amasterinstrumentisdirectlyconnectedtoatransducer(thedevicethat
providestherawdata),andprovidesdataandcontrolappropriatetoitsfunction,

Switchingonandoff
Allthetimethatpowerisappliedtotheinstrument,youcanusethespeed
buttontoswitchtheinstrumentoffandonasfollows:
• Toswitchtheinstrumentoff,holddownthespeedbuttonforapproximately
5 seconds.Afterthistime,aswitchoffcountdownof4 secondsoccurs.Keep
thespeed buttonpressedduringthisperiod,toswitchofftheinstrument.
• Toswitchtheinstrumentbackon,holddownthespeed buttonforapproxi-
mately1 second.
Whenthepowersupplyisswitchedoff,noneoftheinstrumentbuttons(including
speed)hasanyeffect.

Onceatimerisrunning,youcanleavethetimerscreenandselectanyother

level,tofacilitateinitialaccesstothebuttons.Toadjusttheilluminationlevel:
1. Holddownthespeedbuttonforapproximatelyonesecond,toentertheillu-
mination-adjustmode.
2. Therearefourpresetilluminationlevels.Pressthespeedbuttontocycle
throughtheselevelsuntilyoureachthelevelyouwant.
3. Pressanyotherbuttontoleavetheillumination-adjustmode.

Contrast
Toadjustthedisplaycontrast:
1. Holddownthespeedbuttonforapproximatelytwoseconds,toenterthe
contrast-adjustmode.

throughthesesettingsuntilyouachieveoptimumdisplayquality.

1.4 Pop-up Pilot
APop-upPilotfacilityenablesinstrumentsconnectedtoSeaTalktoconstantly
monitoranychangestotheautopilotmodeandtothecoursesettings.Ifoneof
theseparameterschanges,thenewvalueisimmediatelydisplayedontheST60+
instrumentfor5 seconds,afterwhichtimethedisplayrevertstotheprevious
display.
ThisfacilitycanbeenabledordisabledduringUsercalibration(see
Chapter4,
Calibration
).
1.5 Remotecontrol
WhenconnectedtoSeaTalk,theST60+Speedinstrumentcanbecontrolled
remotelywithaSeaTalkRemoteKeypadUnit.Remotecontrolofaninstrumentis
indicatedbya REMOTE legendonthedisplay,toindicatethatthekeypadhas
control.

2.1 Maintenance
Servicingandsafety
• RaymarineequipmentshouldbeservicedonlybyauthorisedRaymarineser-
vicetechnicians.Theywillensurethatservicingproceduresandreplacement
partsusedwillnotaffectperformance.Therearenouser-serviceablepartsin
anyRaymarineproduct.
• Someproductsgeneratehighvoltages,andsoneverhandlethecables/con-
nectorswhenpowerisbeingappliedtotheequipment.
• Whenpoweredup,allelectricalequipmentproduceselectromagneticfields.
Thesecancauseadjacentpiecesofelectricalequipmenttointeractwithone
another,withaconsequentadverseeffectonoperation.Inordertominimise
theseeffectsandenableyoutogetthebestpossibleperformancefromyour
Raymarineequipment,guidelinesaregivenintheinstallationinstructions,to
enableyoutoensureminimuminteractionbetweendifferentitemsofequip-
ment,i.e.ensureoptimumElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC).
• AlwaysreportanyEMC-relatedproblemtoyournearestRaymarinedealer.
Weusesuchinformationtoimproveourqualitystandards.
• Insomeinstallations,itmaynotbepossibletopreventtheequipmentfrom
beingaffectedbyexternalinfluences.Ingeneralthiswillnotdamagethe
equipmentbutitcanleadtospuriousresettingaction,ormomentarilymay
resultinfaultyoperation.
Instrument
Certainatmosphericconditionsmaycausecondensationtoformonthe
instrumentwindow.Thiswillnotharmtheinstrumentandcanbeclearedby
increasingtheilluminationsettingtoLevel3.
PeriodicallycleanyourST60+instrumentwithasoftdampcloth.DoNOTuse
chemicalandabrasivematerialstocleantheinstrument.

Examineallcablesforchafingorotherdamagetotheoutershield,andwhere
necessary,replaceandre-secure.
2.2 Troubleshooting
Preliminaryprocedures
Changesintheelectronicenvironmentmayadverselyaffecttheoperationofyour
ST60+equipment.Typicalexamplesofsuchchangesare:
• Electricalequipmenthasrecentlybeeninstalledormovedaboardyourvessel.
• Youareinthevicinityofanothervesselorshorestationemittingradiosignals.
Ifyouappeartohaveaproblem,firstensurethattheEMCrequirementsarestill
beingmetbeforefurtherinvestigatingtheproblem.
Fixingfaults
AllRaymarineproductsaresubjectedtocomprehensivetestandquality
assuranceprogrammespriortopackingandshipping.However,ifafaultoccurs,
thefollowingtablemayhelptoidentifyandrectifytheproblem.
CAUTION: Prevention of flooding
Ifyouneedtoremovethetransducerinsert,have thetransducer
bung tohand and secureit in thetransducer body immediately
after theinserthasbeenremoved, topreventexcessiveingress
ofwater.
Fault Cause Remedy
Displayblank. Nopowersupply. Checkpowersupply&ensuretheinstru-
mentisswitchedon(see
