Formatting Your Hard Drive:
If a new hard drive is installed in your enclosure, it will need to be formatted before it can be
used. Please follow the instructions below according to your operating system:
For Windows® ME
1. Click “Start”, then “Settings”, and then “Control Panel”.
2. Double-click on “System”, then “Device Manager”.
3. Select “Disk Drives”. Your new hard disk will appear in the hard drive list.
4. Double-click your new hard drive. Select “Settings”.
5. Make sure there are check marks in the “Disconnect”, “Sync Data Transfer”, “Removable”,
and “Int 13 unit” boxes. Click “OK”. After making these changes, please restart your
computer.

6. When your computer restarts, double-click the “My Computer” icon on your desktop.
Right-click the “Removable Disk” icon and select “Format” from the menu. After your new
hard drive is formatted, it is ready to be used.
For Windows® 2000 and XP
1. Right-click the “My Computer” icon on your Desktop and select “Manage.”
2. Select “Disk Management” from the left window pane.

3. All disk drives will appear in lower right-hand corner. Right click the status box of your
new hard drive and select “New Partition.” The New Partition Wizard will walk you through
the formatting procedures.
One Button Back-up Utility Installation:
To enable the One Button Back-up function, you will need to install the Back-up Utility from the
enclosed Utility CD. Please make sure your enclosure is properly connected to your computer.
Insert the Utility CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer and the installation will start
automatically. If the installation does not start, double-click the CD-ROM icon in “My Computer”
and the installation will start automatically. Please follow the on-screen instructions to install the
utility. Restart your computer if necessary.
Setting up the Utility:
1. After the back-up software has been installed successfully, it will run automatically and its
icon will appear in the task bar.
2. To open the Configuration window, double-click on the icon or right click on it and select
“Configuration.”
3. The dialog window will display the computer name and disks on the system. The
supported disk will be displayed with an asterisk “*”.
4. Click the “Task” button to enter the setup window.

5. Each copy task comprises of “Source Directory”, “Destination Directory” and “Attributes”
which are all displayed in this window.
6. Click the “Add” button to add a new task.
7. You can type in the “Source Directory” or “Destination Directory” or use the “Browse”
button to search.
8. Select the proper Attributes and Task direction for your needs.
Active: This task must be checked in order to utilize the back-up utility.
Subdirectory: When this attribute is checked, all subdirectories of the source directory will be
copied to the destination directory. Otherwise, only the files located on the source directory will
be copied.
Overwrite: If this attribute is checked, all source files will be copied to the destination directory.

Otherwise, the read-only files on the destination directory will be skipped.
Newer: If this attribute is checked, the files of the source directory will only be copied to their
destinations when the source file(s) have been updated more recently than the destination file(s).
Back-up: To copy files from the source directory to the destination directory.
Restore: To copy files from the destination directory to the source directory.
Synchronize: To copy files bi-directionally and synchronize the source and destination
directories. If this is checked, the “Newer” attribute will also be checked.
9. Once configuration is completed, click “OK” to add the selected task(s) to the task list.
(Note: If the source directory and destination directory are not valid, the task will not be added. If
this happens, please check the directory and repeat Steps 6 through 9.)
10. Click “Save” to save the task list.
11. Close the Utility window and press the back-up button on the Enclosure for the task(s) to
start.
Un-Installing the Utility:
1. To uninstall the utility, go to “Control Panel,” then “Add/Remove Programs” and select “VIA
Platform Device Manager.” Click “Change/Remove.”
2. Check the option “Button Triggered copy utility” and click “Next.”
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the un-installation of the utility. Restart your
computer if prompted to do so.
