Weight Injury Prevention

Installing some Savant equipment requires two installers to

ensure safe handling during installation. Failure to use two

installers may result in injury.

Safety Statements

All safety instructions below must be read, understood, and carefully followed under all

applicable circumstances when working with any Savant equipment.

1. Follow all input power ratings marked on product near power input!

2. If fuse replacement is required, replacement fuse should match fuse

rating marked on the product.

3. Do not use equipment near water.

4. Clean only with dry cloth.

5. Do not block any ventilation openings or install near any heat sources

such as heat registers, stoves, radiators, ampliﬁers, etc.

6. Refer all servicing to qualiﬁed service personnel. Servicing is required

when any part of the apparatus has been damaged in any way, or fails

to operate normally for any reason.

7. Use only attachments/accessories speciﬁed by the manufacturer,

following all relevant safety precautions for any such attachments/

accessories.

8. For applicable equipment, use the included power cord with the

grounding prong intact to insure proper grounding of the device.

9. If the provided plug does not ﬁt the desired outlet, contact a licensed

electrician to replace the obsolete outlet.

10. Protect any power cord from being walked on, pinched, strained, or

otherwise potentially damaged, especially at the outlet or device

connections.

11. Disconnect any outlet powered apparatus from its power source

during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

12. To completely disconnect equipment from AC mains power,

disconnect the power supply cord plug from the AC receptacle on the

device.

13. For any hardwired or ﬁxed in-wall apparatus, carefully follow all wiring

diagrams and instructions. All electrical wiring and servicing should

be performed by a properly licensed electrician.

1. Important Information

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING

–The hole beside the power button on top side of the Remote is a port for the built-in microphone and NOT a reset button. DO NOT insert any objects in

this hole or damage to the Remote could occur.

–The Remote’s base is simply a charging station. Place the Remote into its base to charge the battery whenever the battery level gets low.

–The Remote is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

–The Remote communicates with the Savant Host over Wi-Fi® (802.11 b/g/n - 2.4GHz/5.0GHz). See Appendix A: Network Requirements.

–Supports WPA and WPA2 security protocols.

–The Remote does not have to be within line of sight of a device to control it.

–REM-2000 model Pro Remotes support multi-room control.. If the Remote can communicate with the local Wi-Fi, it can control any device from any

room/zone.

–The Remote receives software updates over the air (OTA). See the Remote Software Updates (OTA) section below.

–The Savant Host that the Remote is associated with must have a user that is registered with the Savant cloud. If there is no registered user, the Remote

will default back to a local user and will have limited functionality.

–The maximum number of Remotes allowed in a system depends on the number of rooms supported by the Host. Ideally, a user can add a Remote into

every room in a Savant Pro system.

This Deployment Guide will guide the installer through the process of adding a Savant Pro Remote to a Savant Pro system. It is recommended that the

installer read this document in its entirety before beginning the deployment process.

4. System Overview

The Pro Remote system includes a Remote, charging base, and power supply. The diagram below shows how the Remote communicates with the Savant

Host over the local network once installed and conﬁgured.

5. Installation

5.1. Install Remote

1. Place the Remote and charging base on a surface that is ﬂat, dry, well ventilated, and out of direct sunlight.

2. Plug the supplied power adapter into a 120 - 240V AC 50/60Hz surge protected outlet receptacle.

3. Plug the supplied power cord between the Remote base and the power adapter.

4. Place the Remote into the charging base. The Remote battery will begin to charge once placed in the base. Once suciently charged, the remote

will power on and display the Savant logo. After a short boot sequence, the Connect to Wi-Fi Network screen is displayed.

HELPFUL! If the Remote doesn’t automatically power up, press and release the power button on the top of the Remote. After about 5 seconds,

the Savant logo will appear.

5.2. Add Remote to a Savant Host

Follow the steps below to connect to the local Wi-Fi network and then to a Savant Host.

1. Select the Begin button. 2. In the screen that opens, select the local Wi-Fi network. 3. Enter the password for the network

selected. Select Next when complete.

and password. In the screen that opens,

enter the network name (SSID) of the

local network and follow the prompts.

– Retry Scan Button –Select the Retry

Scan button if the local wireless

network is not initially listed. A rescan

will typically locate the network.

found and the Remote connects,

8. Software Updates (OTA)

The Pro Remote receives and installs available over-the-air (OTA) software updates automatically if the following criteria are met:

–The remote must be communicating with a Savant Pro System.

–It is recommended for the Remote to have at least 50% charge.

–The da Vinci runtime software on the Host has been updated and now points to a newer version of remote software available on the Savant Cloud.

–When the update process begins:

• Software will be downloaded to the remote, then installed by the remote automatically.

• When the download process to the remote begins, the Update State can be viewed using the System Status page of System Monitor. See

Appendix C: System Monitor section below for more information.

Appendix A: Network Requirements

Savant requires the use of business class/commercial grade network equipment throughout the network to ensure the reliability of communication between

devices. These higher quality components also allow for more accurate troubleshooting when needed.

Connect all Savant devices to the same local area network (LAN) or subnet as the Host. Savant recommends not implementing any type of trac or packet

shaping in your network topology for the Savant devices as this may interfere with performance.

Network Conﬁguration

To ensure that the IP Address will not change due to a power outage, a static IP Address such as DHCP reservation should be conﬁgured. Savant

recommends using DHCP reservation within the router. By using this method, static IP Addresses for all devices can be managed from a single UI avoiding

the need to access devices individually.

Setting DHCP reservation varies from router to router. Refer to the documentation for the router to conﬁgure DHCP reservation.

Network Changes

The Pro Remote requires resetting network credentials after moving to a new network, changing routers, or if the IP Address range is changed in the current

router.

Reset Wi-Fi Credentials

Follow the instructions in section 7.1 Reset Wi-Fi to reset the Wi-Fi credentials on the Remote.

Appendix B: System Monitor

The System Dashboard tab contains all pertinent information required. The System Dashboard window is described below.

General Information

Mobile Device Status tab > Android Voice Remote

Name The Pro Remotes (REM-1100 and REM-2000) are labeled as an Android Voice Remote and can’t be changed.

Status

Connected Remote is connected and communicating with the Savant Host.

Disconnected

Savant Host is not communicating with the Remote. This could be due to:

–The Remote being switched O.

–Wi-Fi signal not being received.

–Possible problem with Remote.

–Host not available.

Battery Life The percentage of power left on the battery. Range 0-100%.

Network The SSID of the network the Remote is connected to.

Wiﬁ Level The Wi-Fi signal strength received at the Remote. Range 0-3 with 3 indicating a strong signal and 0 indicating a weak signal.

Type Android is displayed. This is the operating system the Remote is running on.

Zone Displays the zone the Remote is currently controlling.

App Version The version of the Savant software app that is running on the Remote.

Software Version The version of the Android operating system that is running on the Remote.

Savant Unique ID A 16-character Savant ID that allows the Savant Host to identify the Remote..

Update Status

Shows the status of a software update. If Remote is not updating, Idle is displayed.

Done - Remote is rebooting after download and install has completed.

start - Indicates there is a software update for the Remote available and the download will begin momentarily.

download - Software is being downloaded from the cloud to the Remote.

Update Progress (%) If the ﬁrmware in the Remote is updating, the progress of the download is displayed. The ﬁeld is blank when no download is

occurring.
