1 General Information and Safety
1.1 Symbols
Important

1.2 Safety notes
Before starting the FA 45 Vision Sensor, read these instructions carefully, ensure that you have
understood them and comply with them at all times.
The FA 45 Vision Sensor should only be connected by a qualied electrician.
Do not tamper with or make alterations on the unit!
The FA 45 Vision Sensor is not a safety-critical component and its use is prohibited under condi-
tions where the safety of persons may depend on its function.
The IP address set for the FA 45 Vision Sensor should be marked on the enclosed label. After
installation, stick the label on the sensor in a clearly visible position.
The IP address of the FA 45 Vision Sensor must be used once only in any network.
(see chapter 3.3 network settings)
1.3 Components supplied
• FA 45 Vision Sensor including integrated illumination
(or as version with C-Mount lens without illumination)
• CD-ROM with Computer software and Operating instructions
• Operating instructions, mounting clamp, Allen key, screwdriver, 2 protective caps for M12 plug.
1.4 Requirements for use
To congure the FA 45 Vision Sensor, the following items are required: PC or notebook with min.
Pentium III, 1 GHz, 256 MB RAM, Microsoft Windows 98, 2000 XP or VISTA™, network connection or network with
TCP-IP protocol. Recommended resolution 1024 x 768 pixels. Basic knowledge of computing is also essential.
The IP address of the FA 45 Vision Sensor is set by the manufacturer to 192.168.100.100 with sub-net mask
255.255.255.0.
The operation of the FA 45 Vision Sensor is independent of a computer or PLC. A PC or noteboOK is required only
for conguring the FA 45 Vision Sensor.
For reproducible results and avoidance of malfunctions, adequate and constant object illumination is essential.
Reections or varying incident light may affect detection results.
 If necessary, use an external white-light source and/or light-screening devices to exclude
incident light.

2 Intended Use
2.1 Field of application
The FA45 Colour Sensor is an optical sensor for detecting coloured surfaces. Its main eld of application is in the
elds of automation technology and quality assurance. With the FA45 Colour Sensor it is possible to detect, for exa-
mple, the colour of markings, labels, electric wires, LEDs, packaging and components.
Compared to black and white detection, the detection of colours represents a more differentiated means of identifying
objects reliably.
The FA45 Colour Sensor is an economical alternative to conventional image-processing systems. Due to the white
light illumination integrated in the sensor, it is also possible to identify objects with difcult surface structures and
color combinations

2.3 Method of function
Evaluation method
During operation, the FA45 Colour Sensor continuously compares the colour in the dened eld of view of the current
image, with that in the dened eld of view of the reference image. This is done by analysing the colour values of the
pixels. If these conform with the reference image taking a certain tolerance into account (percentage of the set value)
the FA45 Colour Sensor triggers the switch signal.

3 Installation Instructions
3.1 Mechanical Installation
To ensure maximum accuracy of detection, the FA 45 Vision Sensor should be protected from
vibration.
Secure the connection cables with cable binders to prevent crushing or slipping.
Select a position for the FA 45 Vision Sensor in which interfering factors such as slight
differences in the position of the object or variations in illumination have little or no effect.
Screw the FA 45 Vision Sensor onto the mounting clamp „dovetail FA 45“ (supplied with the unit) and then onto a
suitable object. Use only the mounting clamp „dovetail FA 45“ (no. 543-11000) supplied with the unit (see chapter
8.13 dimensional drawing).

Observe the object clearance given in the table Field of View / Working Distance (see chapter 8.6).
To avoid interfering reection from the detection object, align the FA 45 Vision Sensor at an angle of approx. 10°-15°
with reference to the optical axis (g. 1).
Fine adjustment
Important: Fine adjustment of the FA 45 Vision Sensor should not be carried out until after electrical connection (see
chapter 3.2) and start-up (PC software installation). See „Start-up“ (chapter 3.4).

3.2 Electrical installation
The electrical installation of the FA 45 Vision Sensor must be carried out by a qualied electri-
cian.
When installing the FA 45 Vision Sensor , disconnect all electrical components from the power
supply.
When the unit is being used in a network, ensure that the network address (IP address) of the
FA 45 Vision Sensor set by the manufacturer at 192.168.100.100/24 with Subnetmask
255.255.255.0 is free and is not in use for any other unit connected to the system.
If necessary, re-set the IP address of the FA 45 Vision Sensor as described in the section „Net-
work settings“ (see chapter 3.3).
When the FA 45 Vision Sensor is in use, the protective caps supplied must be pushed onto the
M12 sockets (data and LAN) which are not in use. Failure to do this may cause malfunction.
3.2.1 Connection possibilities
For stand-alone operation (independent of PC /PLC) only connection 24 V DC (3.2.1.3) is required
after start-up.
For electrical installation, connect wires as follows:

3.2.1.2 Focusing screw

The exact plug connection see table2, chapter 8.7.
Should the parameter of the active conguration „Function IN2“ be set to „Enable“
(manufacturer‘s setting), the input IN2 must be connected to +UB(= High = Enable) in order to
operate the FA 45 Vision Sensor with an external trigger (input IN1). If no +UBis connected to IN2,
the FA 45 Vision Sensor will not execute evaluation. In this case it is in standby mode (= Disable).
(See chapter 8.1).
3.2.1.4 LAN Connection

3.3 Network settings
The following instructions indicate how to change the network conguration of the PC and the
FA 45 Vision Sensor .
If incorrect settings are used, the network connectins in the computer may be lost.
To be on the safe side, note the former settings for later use if required.
Following this procedure, it may be necessary to re-start the system.
In order to determine which IP addresses are allowed in your network or locally in your PC, and
to carry out the necessary settings on your PC, contact the system administrator beforehand.
The illustrations, dialogues and menus originate from the operating system Microsoft Windows
XPTM. The illustrations are similar in other operating systems.
3.3.1 Basic settings for PC and FA 45 Vision Sensor
To congure the FA 45 Vision Sensor with a PC it is essential that a network board and the TCP/IP LAN- connection
is installed on the PC. (This also applies when the PC is not connected to a network. See also chapter 3.2, Electrical
Connection).
There are two alternatives to congure and parameterize the FA 45 Vision Sensor.
1. Direct Connection
2. Network Connection
3.3.1.1. Direct Connection - Setting the IP Address of the PC
To connect the Vision Sensor FA 45 to a PC via Ethernet the IP addresses of both devices have to correspond. The
default IP of the FA 45 is 192.168.100.100/24 with Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0. To establish a direct connection,
the PC must be set to a correspondig, xed IP address like follows.
1. Click on Start Control Panel Network Connection Local Area Connection Properties the window
"Local Area Connection Properties" is open.
2. In the list „This connection requires following elements“ select the option „Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)“ and then
click the button „Properties“.
3. In the following window (see g. 7) set the desired IP address of the PC and the sub-network data.
4. Click on OK to save the settings.
5. Close SensoFinder and start new,
6. Sensor mark and connect.
Microsoft Windows 98/ME™ requires a reboot
after modication of the IP conguration.
Example:
The FA 45 Vision Sensor is pre-set to IP address 192.168.100.100
and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
In this case, the IP address may be set to any value between
192.168.100.1 and 192.168.100.254, with the exception of the
sensor IP address (192.168.100.100).
For the sensor IP address modication, see system start-up.

3.3.1.2. Network Connection - Setting the IP address of the FA 45 Vision Sensor
Please check before connecting the sensor into the network, if the IP adress of the sensor is free
(default 192.168.100.100 with Subnetmask 255.255.255.0, togehter with your system administra-
tor). If not this can cause a breakdown of the network.
The IP address set for the FA 45 Vision Sensor should be marked on the enclosed label.
After installation, stick the label on the sensor in a clearly visible position.
If Sensor IP is free:
Connect the sensor to the network, and set up a to the PC corresponding sensor IP, you got from your sytem admini-
stator, like follows.
If Sensor IP is not free:
1. Connect Sensor and PC via „Direct Connection“ (see chapter 3.3.1.1) and set the sensor IP to a allowed value,
you got from your system administrator.
2. Now the connection via network can be done like follows.
Before setting, ensure that the computer is connected as described in „Electrical Installation“ and „Basic Computer
Settings“ (see chapter 3.2 and chapter 3.4).
To set the IP address on the FA 45 Vision Sensor , proceed as follows in the PC software:
1. Select the sensor.
2. Set new IP address that was supplied by
administrator or systems manager by choosing
„Set IP“ (see g. 9).
3. Re-start the sensor (interrupt power supply for 5 s).
4. Search the sensor with „Find“.
5. Close SensoFinder and restart.
6. Sensor mark and connect

Important:
To configure the FA 45 Vision Sensor for the network it is neccessary to integrate it to the network. Please check before plug
in, if the IP address of the sensors is already used (default: 192.168.100.100/24). As in case of collision the network can brake
down.
To configure the sensor the FA 45 PC software and a comunication between sensor and PC is neccessary. To establish this,
the sensor needs a free IP address*1).

3.4 Start-up
The FA 45 Vision Sensor functions only with software supplied. Software updates are available
under www.sensopart.de.
The PC Sofware must always t to the corresponding Sensor Firmware (VXX).
For installation of the software using Windows 2000, XP and Vista™ administration rights are
necessary.
To start the FA 45 Vision Sensor up, proceed as follows:
1. Switch on the power supply (+UB). If necessary, connect IN2 with +UB(see chapter 8.1 IN 2).
2. For the rst start-up of the FA 45 Vision Sensor install the supplied software (version x.x) on the PC. When the
CD is inserted, the Internet Browser should start automatically. When the Autorun function is deactivated, it is
also possible to start the main page by double click on start.exe.

3. In the top menu, there is now the program group „SensoPart/FA 45 Vision Sensor“ with the entry „SensoFinder“.
4. „SensoFinder“ starts The following user interface appears:
The programm executes one nd loop and shows the list of all found senors.
The IP address of the PC is displayed in the bottom line beneath the buttons.
Beginning from software version 4.0 Build 374 there is available an ofinemode for the software. This means that the
software can be operated without a sensor connected. The decision, whether the software is operated in ofine- or
onlinemode is done in the sensonder. Sensors available for onlinemode are listed in the upper window. Sensors
available for simulation in ofinemode are listed in the lower window. When a sensor is operated in ofinemode, the
user has to load pictures into the simulation software.

Onlinemodus
Direct Connection
After selecting the desired sensor all actions like Connect, SetIP or Update can be processed.
Network Connection
For setting the sensor IP address (see chapter 3.3.1.2).
Upon completion of the IP-address modication, select the desired sensor. Now the connection to the sensor
may be established. The actions like Connect, SetIP or Update can be processed.
By pressing the button „Connect“, the correct software / software version which corresponds to the selected
sensor type, is started and a connection to the sensor is established.
If no sensor can be found with the „SensoFinder“, it´s also possible to connect “manually” with function “Add
IP” by lling in an IP-address of a known sensor.

Button Command Description
Moving up / down Moving single pictures upwards and downwards in the list.
Mark the picture that should be moved.
Get Loading pictures in .bmp - format in the simulation.
The pictures must have a colour depth of 32 Bit and a resoluti-
on on 320x240 of 640x480 pixels.
The pictures are saved by the software in this format (see
chapter. 4.2.4 D).
There can be loaded several pictures, which are processed
one after the other from top to down.
Delete Delete single pictures from the list.
Delete all Delete the complete list of pictures
Save Saves the conguration for the simulation as .sml - le.
There will be saved only the links to the pictu-
res, not the complete pictures. If you want to
copy a simulation to another PC please copy the
.sml - leand the used pictures (.bmp - les).
Load Loading of a .sml - le.
Cancel Closes the simulation without opening the software.
OK Opens the Software with the selected simulation.
After pressing of „OK“ the software opens, the selected pictures run cyclycally in the selected order,
depending from setting of trigger mode in free run or by next picture at every trigger.
This is done over an additional dialogue which opens automatically if
a sensor is selected in ofinemode.

5. If the software was able to make contact with the FA 45 Vision Sensor, all the buttons are activated after a few
seconds and the image currently „seen“ by the sensor is displayed.
If the buttons are not activated, the software has not been able to make contact with the FA 45 Vision Sensor .
Check cable connections, IP address and if necessary, determine the IP address of the FA 45 Vision
Sensor with the „SensoFinder“ and if necessary set the IP address of the PC and/or the sensor as descri-
bed in the section „Network settings“ (see chapter 3.3). Then repeat item 4.
If contact with the FA 45 Vision Sensor is still not possible:
read the chapter 3.3 „Network settings“ and make the necessary settings to the PC and/or sensor and/or
contact network administrator.

6. Display live image. Click the button „Live display“.
If no live image appears, check the following points:
• No obstruction in front of the lens
• Sufcient illumination (parameter „illumination = on“ or external illumination)
• Correct shutter setting (Fig. 14, A), (see chapter 4.2.3.3.1 Parameters active conguration), correct focus set-
ting, see point 7.
If the live image still fails to appear, contact the Service dept.
Carry out ne adjustment of the FA 45 Vision Sensor with „GOOD“ parts to avoid interfering
effects.
7. Adjusting image focus. To adjust image denition, turn the focussing screw at the rear of the housing
(see chapter 3.2.1, g. 2) in clockwise direction (object distance large) or anticlockwise direction (object dis-
tance short). Check the position of the FA 45 Vision Sensor and adjust if necessary.
The FA 45 Vision Sensor is now ready for use.
Before using the FA 45 Vision Sensor , it should be prepared for the detection task with the assistance of the PC soft-
ware. For this purpose, the object characteristics by which the object is identied or distinguished, must be dened in
conguration features 1 - 32 in the software program.
A general description of the software is given below.

4 Program Description
4.1 Menu
The menu for the PC program has main and sub-sections. These are selected by clicking the desired menu item or
by pressing the ALT key and underlined letter at the same time.
File / Exit
Exit program.
Options / Language
Select language, German, English or French for the program. The newly selected language is not effective until the
program is re-started.
Options / Big Results
(keyboard locked)
The window „Result“ is shown enlarged in a pop-up window. This means that the window is in the foreground and no
input is possible via keyboard or mouse.
The now zoomed result window can be moved on the screen with the arrow keys of the keyboard. In run mode all
displays in the big result window and in the background are refreshed.
This mode can only be de-activated by placing the mouse pointer inside the Result LED and
pressing the key combination ALT + B at the same time.
Options / Set white balance
If the white balance is active, evaluation is slowed down.
Recommended: Use the white balance only if the colours are widely incorrect.
The white balance is for colour calibration of the FA45 Sensor. To carry our colour balance, point the FA45 at a white
surface (white paper). Then set a slightly grey image which is as homogeneous as possible by adjusting the shutter
(see 4.2.3 Parameters of active conguration), and select the menu item „Set white balance“.
Options / Reset white balance
De-activate the calibration set above.
Help / Help
Display integrated help system of PC software.
Help / Info
Displays program version.

4.2.1 A Commands
The buttons shown below are for the general operation of the FA 45 Vision Sensor, administration of conguration
data and display of other information on the program.
If the buttons are not active (pale), the command in question is not available in this mode.
Button Command Description
Connect / disconnect Connect to or disconnect from FA 45 Vision Sensor (see
Setup).
When disconnecting:
Existing connection to FA 45 Vision Sensor is disconnected
and the software gets closed.
Teach Automatic teach of shutter settings. The colours themselves
are taught in histogramm.
Recommendation: Manual setting..
Teach from picture Teach from picture: works in the same way as „Initial Teach“,
but without taking a new picture before teaching. The already
present picture is taken for teaching. This fuction is helpful, if a
picture was taken by the function “Single image”.
Start / stop Start / stop exposure process („Run mode“).
Trigger Manual triggering of exposure using PC program (active only
in „Run“ mode and if „triggered“ is selected in Trigger list. (see
chapter 4.2.3.3.1 Parameters active conguration).
Save Current conguration settings (all or one conguration only)
are saved in a le on a data carrier.
Load All (or only one) previously saved conguration settings from a
selected le are displayed and activated.
Reset The settings of a conguration (or all congurations) are retur-
ned to the manufacturer‘s setting.
Copy With this function all or some parameters of the selected
Master-Conguration can be copied identically to a freely
selectable number of other congurations.
Identical parameter settings are a important condition by using
several congurations, e.g. with logical combination.
Write During setting parameters with PC connected, the parameters
are stored in the sensor RAM only. To store those parameters
permanently in the sensor, the button “Write” must be pressed.
