Introduction 1
1.1 About these instructions
These instructions describe the connectivity module and provide you with information on how
to use the product – from installation through to maintenance.
Keep these instructions in a safe place for subsequent use.
Read these instructions before you use the connectivity module, and follow the instructions
and notes carefully. In this way you can ensure safe, problem-free operation and a long
service life.

2.1 General safety instructions
The connectivity module conforms to the pertinent safety regulations according to IEC, VDE and
EN. If you have any doubt about whether it is permissible to install the device in the planned
environment, then contact your local contact person.
• Carefully comply with safety instructions in the operating instructions of the components
(Page15).
• Carefully comply with the following safety notes and instructions when working with the
connectivity module.
WARNING
Risk of explosion and the risk of the emission of toxic substances (valid for IPC127E)
Improper handling of lithium batteries can cause them to explode.
Explosion of the batteries and the released toxic substances can cause severe physical injury.
Worn batteries jeopardize the function of the device.
Note the following when handling lithium batteries:
• Replace used batteries in good time. Additional information on replacing batteries is
provided in the SIMATIC IPC127E Operating Instructions, Section "Replacing bu󹪜er
batteries".
• Do not throw the batteries into a 󹪝re.
• Do not solder at the cell body of the battery.
• Do not recharge the battery.
• Do not open the battery.
• Do not short-circuit the battery.
• Do not connect the battery with the incorrect polarity.
• Do not heat up the battery to over 100°C.
• Protect the battery from direct solar radiation, humidity and condensation.
2.2 Quali󹪝ed personnel
The product/system described in this documentation may only be operated by personnel
quali󹪝ed for the speci󹪝c task in accordance with the relevant documentation for the speci󹪝c
task, in particular its warning notices and safety instructions. Because of their training and
experience, quali󹪝ed personnel can recognize any risks involved with handling these products/
systems and avoid any possible dangers.

2.3 The 5 safety rules
To ensure your own personal safety as well as to avoid material damage, always comply with the
safety-relevant instructions when carrying out any work. Also carefully comply with the 5 safety
rules according to EN50110‑1 "Working in a no-voltage state" in the speci󹪝ed sequence.
5 safety rules
1. Disconnect the system.
Also disconnect the auxiliary circuits, for example, anti-condensation heating.
2. Secure against reconnection.
3. Verify absence of operating voltage.
4. Ground and short-circuit.
5. Provide protection against adjacent live parts.
To energize the system, apply the measures in reverse order.
2.4 Electrostatic sensitive devices
Material damage due to electrostatic discharge
Electronic modules contain components that can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge. These
components can be damaged or destroyed if they are not handled correctly. To protect
equipment against damage, follow the instructions given below.
• Only touch electronic modules if you absolutely have to work on them.
• The body of the person concerned must have been electrostatically discharged and
grounded immediately before any electronic modules are touched.
• Electronic modules should not be brought into contact with electrically insulating materials,
such as:
– Plastic 󹪝lm
– Plastic parts
– Insulating table supports
– Clothing made of synthetic 󹪝bers
• Always place the modules on conductive and grounded surfaces.
• Always pack, store and transport electronic modules or components in conductive
packaging, such as:
– Metallized plastic or metal containers
– Conductive foam material
– Domestic aluminum foil

2.6 Security recommendations
Carefully comply with the following security recommendations to prevent unauthorized access.
Carefully comply with the security recommendations in the component documentation
(Page15).
General
• Regularly check that the device satis󹪝es these recommendations and/or other internal
security guidelines.
• Holistically analyze your complete system regarding security. Utilize the cell protection
concept based on the appropriate products.
• Correctly disconnect the various connections (RDP).
Physical access
• Restrict physical access to the device to quali󹪝ed personnel only.
• Do not open any additional physical ports. Further, observe the hardening measures and
network con󹪝gurations in the following chapters:

Software (security functions)
• Keep the software up to date. Regularly inform yourself about product security updates. You

• Regularly update passwords (Page20) and keys in order to increase the security level.
• Only use strong passwords. Avoid weak passwords, e.g. password1, 123456789, abcdefgh.
• Ensure that all passwords are protected, and cannot be accessed by unauthorized personnel.
• Do not use the same password for various users and systems.

Handling interchangeable data media
Carefully ensure that you securely handle interchangeable data media (USB drives and devices)
as well as applying suitable safety guidelines and techniques in operation.
Microsoft Defender scans interchangeable data media for malware and other harmful code.
Keep Microsoft Defender up-to-date. You will 󹪝nd information on this in Section "Windows
Security Center (Page19)"
Also identify what sensitive information is handled in the context of the target system and
how to prevent unauthorized disclosure, modi󹪝cation, removal or destruction of information
such as this related to handling interchangeable data media. If the customer/owner provides
his own safety guidelines for handling interchangeable data media then comply with these
guidelines. If there is no guideline or the guideline is incomplete, then comply with the
Siemens instructions for handling interchangeable data media.
Incident report
Contact our customer service for cases where the system owner/employees involved in
operation, maintenance and service identify potential security incidents. A procedure to process
incidents is initiated.
Nominate somebody responsible for cyber security in your organization as contact point for the
incident handling process.
2.7 Data security
The IPC saves the converter data unencrypted. Carefully ensure the following:
• Always keep the Windows Firewall activated to protect the device.
• Delete/clear all data from the IPC (Page45) before returning or disposing of it.
• Before returning or disposing clear all data of the connectivity module (Page49).
• Regularly backup your security-related data. Information about this is available here.

Hardening measures
Information about hardening measures is available on the Internet (https://www.siemens.com/
global/en/home/products/services/cert.html). Under no circumstance weaken the following
hardening measures of the connectivity module.
•Veri󹪝cation of the operating system integrity
•Con󹪝guring Windows updates
•Con󹪝guration of the Windows Firewall
• User account control
• Whitelisting
Whitelist
The fundamental concept behind what is called a whitelist in the IT domain is that all
applications are distrusted. Exceptions are those applications that have been classi󹪝ed as
trustworthy after an appropriate check has been made.
A whitelist is maintained and updated in the system. This whitelist includes all applications
that have been classi󹪝ed as trustworthy and can be executed on your PC systems.
Whitelisting mechanisms also o󹪜er additional protection against the following:
• Undesirable applications and malware
• Unauthorized modi󹪝cations to installed applications
• Executable 󹪝les such as .exe, .ps1, .msi.
Do not make any modi󹪝cations to the whitelist that go beyond commissioning and
maintenance activities.
Personal data
The connectivity module neither uses nor processes personal data.

3.1 Overview of the connectivity module
Note
The connectivity module and SIDRIVEIQ are used to monitor the state/condition of the
converter. The connectivity module cannot be used to in󹪞uence the converter. The connectivity
module is not a remote maintenance system.
The connectivity module captures important operating and status data of the drive. The
captured data is preprocessed, transferred via a LAN interface, and made available in
SIDRIVEIQ for analysis.
SIDRIVE IQ - Drive System Connect Nano
The IPC captures the converter data and processes the data for transfer to SIDRIVEIQ.

3.3 SIDRIVE IQ
What is SIDRIVE IQ?
SIDRIVE IQ is the digital platform for drive systems. The platform links networked drive
components with the cloud-based analytics in SIDRIVE IQ. SiDRIVE IQ improves the productivity,
reliability and serviceability of drive components.
• Using the connectivity module, you can transfer, save and analyze operating data in
SIDRIVEIQ.
• Operating data can be displayed using SIDRIVE IQ.
• SIDRIVE IQ provides technical speci󹪝cations on the drive components and the results of the
operation and status for users. Furthermore, it provides recommendations for preventive
maintenance activities, for example.

4.1 Transportation and storage
NOTICE
Damage to the connectivity module as a result of external e󹪜ects
The connectivity module is installed in the converter cabinet in the factory. When transporting,
storing and operating the converter, the connectivity module can be damaged as a result of
external e󹪜ects.
• Take special care not to damage the connectivity module when transporting, storing and
operating the converter.
• Do not subject the connectivity module to mechanical loads and stress.
4.2 Prerequisites
Protective system of the overall system
The protection measures for the connectivity module and the SIDRIVEIQ applications do not
replace the protection system of the overall system itself.

Local service PC
For commissioning, you require a local service PC running the Windows 10 operating system.
The local service PC must support the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) in order to
remotely access the IPC.
• Only connect the local service PC physically and directly to the connectivity module (point-to-
point Ethernet cable). For SINAMICS converters, only use the connection during
commissioning. Disconnect the connection after commissioning.
• Protect the local service PC against unauthorized access.
• Under no circumstance weaken the hardening measures of the connectivity module. Read
information about this in Chapter "Data security/hardening measures (Page11)"

LAN connection in the company network with Internet access
• Carefully ensure that the LAN connection is established according to Siemens industry
standards. More information is provided in the Con󹪝guration Manual SINAMICS Industrial
Security for medium-voltage converters (https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/
view/109751848).
• Port 443 must be enabled in your company network for HTTPS communication to SIDRIVE IQ
(see port list in Section "Overview of the connectivity module (Page13)").
• Minimum transmission rate of the LAN connection: 10Mbit/s for one converter.
• Carefully ensure that the ports required for the company's own 󹪝rewalls for Windows updates
are neither closed nor blocked.
Accessing the SIDRIVE IQ Suite
To utilize the advantages of SIDRIVE IQ, you require access to the "SIDRIVE IQ Suite".
When purchasing SIDRIVEIQ, you have several access options available. After ordering
SIDRIVEIQ, SIEMENS Technical Support automatically creates a user account for the email
address of the orderer. If you require additional access options, provide Technical Support
(Page51) with additional email addresses.
You receive the following emails after SIEMENS customer service has created a user account:
• "User Credentials for Drive System Analyzer" email with the link to the Drive System Analyzer
and the appropriate login data
