Introduction
elow in figure 1 you will find an overview of the system architecture that will provide a
communications path to and from a Maguire 12-12 Weigh Scale lender (WS ). The example only
shows one WS connected to a HMS Anybus Profibus Slave via an RS232C serial connection which in
turn is connected over Profibus to an S7-1200 PLC.

Hardware Configuration
Anybus module settings
Anybus Slave:
The address setting is achieved with the two rotary switches on the Anybus Slave module. However
in some applications the application interface is used to set the addresses with software. The
address is set to 11 in this example.
The Anybus Slave Interface also has a terminating switch.
•The terminating switch should be set to “ON” if:
oThe module is the last node on the network => physical end of the bus.
oNo other termination is used at this end of the network.
• The terminating switch should be set to “OFF” if:
oThere are other nodes on both sides of the module in the network.
oThe module is the last node on the network and a PROFI US D-SU connector is
used which is equipped with a built in and activated termination.

Note: The PROFI US network must always be terminated at both ends.
This assumes that the Profibus node address is going to be node 11 if the node number needs to be
different due to integration to an existing system change the node address in the S7 project and
alter the switches to suit.

- insert the green and red cores into the open contact cover right up to the end
- close the contact cover (press it down as tight as possible)
(4) The cable shield has to lie flat on the shield plate, the cable jacket has to end before the shield

Note: The bus cables are connected by means of an insulation piercing technique (Fast Connect
connection system). The insulation piercing connecting devices are designed for 10 connecting
cycles. If you wish to reconnect a line that has already been connected, you must crop it first.

Note if the terminating resistor is used on the Profibus connector then do not use the switch inside
the Anybus unit as well.

Wire the S7-1200 Module as shown in figure 6 connect the TP700 Comfort to the 24VDC PSU and
patch cable as shown in figure7.

Connect the Profinet cable (green) to the “X1 P1" port on the S7-1200 as shown in figure 8.

Connect 24VDC to both the Profibus master module and the HMS Anybus module as shown in
figures 9 &10.

The only connections remaining is the serial cable between the Anybus Module and the Maguire
WS Control this is connected to the 9 way D connectors on the Anybus module(see figure 11) and
the Maguire WS Control (see Figure 12).

Settings Required in the Maguire WS Control
Communications Settings
Standard communications settings for WS control will need to be altered. Communications settings
between the gateway and the WS are as follows:
aud: 2400
Data its: 8
Parity: None
Stop its: 1
WS Address: 001
To change the settings on the on the WS carry out the following:
•Press * followed by 22222.
•Press * followed by 95 and select the baud rate by pressing the * key, once selected press
exit.
•Press * followed by 66 and set the WS Communications address to 001 using the keypad,
press exit once setting is entered.
All relevant settings have now been changed in the WS .

The gateway holds the Maguire MLAN commands, there are a number of commands embedded in
the gateway. Some are cyclic commands, commands that are sent at regular intervals, which read
information from the WS that is then, in turn, copied in to D 300. The other commands are
triggered by events in the PLC or HMI, Data to be sent to the WS like component settings are sent
from the PLC to the write area of the gateway and are triggered by incrementing a trigger address
also held and handed to the write are of the gateway from D 301. Later in this document we will
break down a command in to its component parts to show how the gateway handles the data and
command structure.

PLC configuration
The PLC system hardware configuration is done solely with the Siemens TIA Portal. The starter
package contains a project named S7-1200 WS V1_00_V13. Open the project and open the devices
and networks section.

Double click on the WS 1 Graphic at the bottom of the display as shown in figure 14. The display
should now show the details for the Anybus Gateway as shown in figure 15.

To the right the input and output ranges of the device is shown the columns are marked "I address"
and "Q address", I being input Q being output. If you total the number of input and output bytes

listed they come to 214 input bytes and 88 output bytes. These values need to match the input and
output areas that are being used by the gateway see figure 16.

In figure 16 it shows the In Area as 214 bytes and the Out Area as 88 bytes which matches the
configuration in TIA portal/Devices and Networks.
If additional commands from the MLAN protocol are required then these In and Out areas will
change in size. They must always match the Sub Network Monitor in the Anybus Configuration Tool
If you need to add multiple gateways then simple add additional units changing the node address so
that it is unique and make sure you set the switches in the Gateway accordingly as shown in figure 2.
Data Relocation
FC300 in the PLC program moves the data from the I and Q areas to two separate data blocks, D 300
for input bytes and D 301 for Output bytes, figure 17 shows an extract of the block for reference.
The input and output areas are moved in to separate Data locks to allow commands to be added on
the gateway so if the input area gets larger the output area address later in the PLC program will not
change.

In network 7 of FC300 we move a value of 1 into D 301.D 0 this is the target address of the WS
which we set earlier using *66 in the WS Controller you may wish to change this value for clarity in
a multiple blender application just makes sure whatever you set the value to using *66 then move
the same value into D 301.D 0.
Note:
If you send commands with the Anybus Gateway with a node number of 00 this will be seen as a
global broadcast so in a multi-dropped environment this will change all blenders to the settings sent.

Figure 19 shows the pre-programmed list of commands that are in the Anybus gateway. A full list of
commands can be found at http://www.maguire.com/ps_image/pdf/mlan-protocol.pdf in the
following section of the manual we will look at a command in depth and how the PLC and gateway
handles the command.
The command we shall be looking at is Get Settings (20). The following is an extract from the
Maguire MLAN protocol manual Edition: March 11, 2014:

As you can see the command is broken up in to the same sections as detailed in the MLAN Protocol
Manual, address, command and checksum. The most important sections for us to look at are the
first two.

If you look back at figure 16 you will see that the output area for the gateway for the gateway begins
at address 0200 and this in turn is mapped to D 301.D 0 which as described earlier (see figure 18)
we have moved a value of 1 in to, therefore address 0200 has a value of 1.
Command: 0x14
This is the hexadecimal value for 20 (denoted by the x in front of the value) this is the command
code we are looking for.
The checksum is calculated by the gateway and added as the last byte required. So we get a
command of: 01 20 234 (Decimal) and 0x01 0x14 0xEA in Hex
