TheSICAMEarthFaultIndicator(EFI)isadevicethatisusedfordetectionandsignalingofgroundfaulton
medium-voltageundergrounddistributioncablenetworks.Inthismanual,SICAMEFIisalsoreferredtoasthe
Device.
SICAMEFIusesanexternalcurrentsensortodetectgroundfaults.Thedevicetogetherwiththecurrentsensor
detectstheunbalancecurrentintheundergroundcablesandindicatesitasagroundfault.Theseindications
arebasedontheground-faultcurrentthresholdsetinSICAMEFI.Thecurrentsensorcontinuouslyprovides
thecorrespondingsecondaryvoltagesignaltotheSICAMEFImoduleviaanelectricalcable.Thissignalis
continuouslyvalidatedatSICAMEFI.Ifthecurrentvalueexceedsthesetthresholdlevelandpersistsuntilthe
expiryoftheresponsetime,SICAMEFIconsidersitasavalidfaultandstartsflashingthefaultLED(red).
DependingontheSICAMEFIvariant,theground-faultcurrentthresholdcanbesetfrom25Ato100Aor25A
to240A.
SICAMEFIhelpsindetectingandlocalizingthefaults,therebydecreasingtheoutagetimesandmaintaining
themedium-voltagefeederavailability.Thisdeviceisusedinthedistributionautomationsystemshaving
