Introduction
This Quick Start is for Siemens SITRANS FEC920 Thermal Energy Calculator.
The FEC920 is a pre-configured device per the customer specifications. Many
user modifiable items exist and instructions can be found in this guide and
the user manual. This device, once commissioned, is designed to start up and
measure flow and temperature and display the energy variable configured.
This instruction is aimed at persons mechanically installing the device,
connecting it electrically, configuring the parameters and commissioning it as
well as service and maintenance engineers.
Notes:
• It is the responsibility of the customer that the instructions and directions
provided are read, understood and followed by the relevant personnel
before installing the device.
• For complete Safety Considerations and Ratings, refer to the FEC920 User
Manual.

Mounting
• Recommended mounting: directly to wall or to electrical cabinet back panel.
• If alternate mounting surface is used it MUST support four times the weight of the unit.
• Dimensions of unit and location of four (4) mounting holes are shown in Figure 1.

Physical Dimensions
The FEC920 can be mounted on any wall surface including wood, metal or concrete.
Use appropriate bolts and screws as needed for your mounting application and adhere to local
codes.

Commissioning
Safety Precautions:
• Insure the FEC920 is properly attached to mounting surface
• Ensure power is off to all wiring coming to the FEC920
WARNING
Turn off main power before installing AC connections to the flowmeter. Contact with
exposed wiring may lead to fire, electric shock, or serious personal injury.
CAUTION
Disable power before servicing fuse F1.
Wiring Power:
1.Open enclosure by releasing latches on side of unit
2.Install cable glands as needed, pass power cables through to the wiring
terminals inside the FEC920
a. Power is recommended to enter at location15 as seen in figure 2 below.
b.Remove protective NEMA cover
c. Insure cable gland is tightened once wiring is complete for proper seal
d.The wiring terminals are clearly marked with labels that identify the
numbers and symbols referenced below.
3.Wire system power:
a. For 85-264 VAC units, wire the:
i. Hot to the “F1” labeled terminal of Fuse block
ii. Neutral to the “N” labeled terminal of Fuse block
iii. Ground to the Ground lug on the base plate – Labeled
b.For 24VDC units wire the:
i. +24V to the “F1” labeled terminal of Fuse block
ii. Neutral to the “N” labeled terminal of Fuse block
iii. Shield to the Ground lug on the base plate – Labeled

Signals
4.Wire the Flow Meter and Temperature Inputs per the wiring diagram
found on the inside door of the FEC920, or see Figure 3 below:
5.Temperature transmitter signals are expected to be 4 – 20 mA with the loop power provided by
the FEC920
a. If you have passive elements you will need to include a temperature transmitter to provide
the proper signal to the FEC920.
b.Install temperature transmitter per the manufacture guidelines
c. Wire the output of the temperature transmitter to the terminals per Figure 2.
d.Wire the temperature elements to the temperature transmitter per the Transmitter
manufacture guidelines.
6.Attach the network cable if required
a. RJ45 connector is preinstalled at location 12 of Figure 1.
b.See the FEC920 User Manual for network setup
7.Apply power to the FEC920, Flow Meter and Temperature devices
a. Unit will initialize and display the process variables as measured and calculated

CAUTION
Unit is shipped with weather tight seals on the enclosure conduit holes. Install a seal on any unused opening
to insure compliance to IP65 Standard.
