Introduction 1
1.1 Purpose of this documentation
These instructions contain all information required to commission and use the device. Read the
instructions carefully prior to installation and commissioning. In order to use the device
correctly, first review its principle of operation.
The instructions are aimed at persons mechanically installing the device, connecting it
electronically, configuring the parameters and commissioning it, as well as service and
maintenance engineers.

1.6 Transportation and storage
To guarantee sufficient protection during transport and storage, observe the following:
● Keep the original packaging for subsequent transportation.
● Devices/replacement parts should be returned in their original packaging.
● If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that all shipments are properly
packaged to provide sufficient protection during transport. Siemens cannot assume liability
for any costs associated with transportation damages.
NOTICE
Insufficient protection during storage
The packaging only provides limited protection against moisture and infiltration.
● Provide additional packaging as necessary.
Special conditions for storage and transportation of the device are listed in Technical data
(Page 37).

2.1 Preconditions for use
This device left the factory in good working condition. In order to maintain this status and to
ensure safe operation of the device, observe these instructions and all the specifications
relevant to safety.
Observe the information and symbols on the device. Do not remove any information or symbols
from the device. Always keep the information and symbols in a completely legible state.

2.1.4 Improper device modifications
WARNING
Improper device modifications
Risk to personnel, system and environment can result from modifications to the device,
particularly in hazardous areas.
● Only carry out modifications that are described in the instructions for the device. Failure to
observe this requirement cancels the manufacturer's warranty and the product approvals.
2.2 Requirements for special applications
Due to the large number of possible applications, each detail of the described device versions
for each possible scenario during commissioning, operation, maintenance or operation in
systems cannot be considered in the instructions. If you need additional information not
covered by these instructions, contact your local Siemens office or company representative.
Note
Operation under special ambient conditions
We highly recommend that you contact your Siemens representative or our application
department before you operate the device under special ambient conditions as can be
encountered in nuclear power plants or when the device is used for research and development
purposes.

2.3 Use in hazardous areas
Qualified personnel for hazardous area applications
Persons who install, connect, commission, operate, and service the device in a hazardous area
must have the following specific qualifications:
● They are authorized, trained or instructed in operating and maintaining devices and systems
according to the safety regulations for electrical circuits, high pressures, aggressive, and
hazardous media.
● They are authorized, trained, or instructed in carrying out work on electrical circuits for
hazardous systems.
● They are trained or instructed in maintenance and use of appropriate safety equipment
according to the pertinent safety regulations.

Use in hazardous area
Risk of explosion.
● Only use equipment that is approved for use in the intended hazardous area and labelled
accordingly.
● Don't use devices that have been operated outside the conditions secified for hazardous
areas. If you have used the device outside the conditions for hazardous areas permanently
make all Ex markings unrecognizable on the nameplate.

Loss of safety of device with type of protection "Intrinsic safety Ex i"
If the device has already been operated in non-intrinsically safe circuits or the electrical
specifications have not been observed, the safety of the device is no longer ensured for use
in hazardous areas. There is a risk of explosion.
● Connect the device with type of protection "Intrinsic safety" solely to an intrinsically safe
circuit.
● Observe the specifications for the electrical data on the certificate and/or in Technical data
(Page 37).

Description 3
SITRANS I300 was developed for intrinsically safe operation of 4-wire devices in the hazardous
area. Examples for 4-wire devices are Siemens flowmeters with Modbus output as well as
BACnet, or PROFIBUS RS 485-IS devices. The SITRANS I300 isolating power supply has to
be inserted between the EIA-485 Master and the flowmeter.

The SITRANS I300 limits the energy flow into the hazardous area. Therefore it prevents the
inflammation of a potentially explosive atmosphere.

4.1 Basic safety notes
4.1.1 Installation location requirements
WARNING
Insufficient air supply
The device may overheat if there is an insufficient supply of air.
● Install the device so that there is sufficient air supply in the room.
● Observe the maximum permissible ambient temperature. Refer to the information in the
section Technical data (Page 37).
CAUTION
Aggressive atmospheres
Damage to device through penetration of aggressive vapors.
● Ensure that the device is suitable for the application.
CAUTION
Direct sunlight
Device damage.
The device can overheat or materials become brittle due to UV exposure.
● Protect the device from direct sunlight.
● Make sure that the maximum permissible ambient temperature is not exceeded. Refer to
the information in Technical data (Page 37).
CAUTION
Installation on bridge and deck zone (maritime usage)
The use of the product in maritime area on the bridge is only permitted with "EPCOS
B84113C0000B030" mains filter wired into the supply chain.

4.1.2 Proper mounting
NOTICE
Incorrect mounting
The device can be damaged, destroyed, or its functionality impaired through improper
mounting.
● Before installing ensure there is no visible damage to the device.
● Make sure that process connectors are clean, and suitable gaskets and glands are used.
● Mount the device using suitable tools. Refer to the information in Technical data
(Page 37).
4.2 Installation preconditions
Orientation of the SITRANS I300
SITRANS I300 can be installed vertically or horizontally.
WARNING
Damage to the device
Electrical equipment standards classify SITRANS I300 as Open Equipment. You must install
SITRANS I300 in an enclosure, cabinet, or electric control room. You should limit entry to the
enclosure, cabinet, or electric control room to authorized personnel.
Installing the SITRANS I300
SITRANS I300 can be easily installed on a DIN rail or on a panel. To prevent interference, you
should allow clearance of at least 40 mm underneath and above.
Further information about the installation of modules can be found in the system manual of the
S7-1200 programmable controller (https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/

Installation location
As long as it is installed in an adequate enclosure, SITRANS I300 can be operated in
hazardous areas (zone 2). It is allowed to lead the bus line (secondary side) of SITRANS I300
out of the non-hazardous area in zone 1 and zone 0.

4.3 Mounting SITRANS I300
Before you start mounting the SITRANS I300 on a DIN rail or on a panel, please make sure that:
● The power supply of the device is turned off.
● There are no explosive conditions.
Mounting the SITRANS I300 on a DIN rail
1. Make sure the upper DIN rail clip is in the latched (inner) position and that the lower DIN rail
clip is in the extended position.
2. Hook the SITRANS I300 over the top of the DIN rail.
3. Pull out the DIN rail clip on the bottom of the SITRANS I300 to allow the SITRANS I300 to
fit over the rail.
4. Rotate the SITRANS I300 down into position on the rail.
5. Push in the clips to latch the device to the rail.
Mounting the SITRANS I300 on a panel
1. Locate, drill, and tap the mounting holes (M4).
2. Extend the mounting clips from the module. Make sure the DIN rail clips on the top and
bottom of the SITRANS I300 are in the extended position.
3. Secure the module to the panel, using a Pan Head M4 screw with spring and flat washer. Do
not use a flat head screw.
