Byaddingbathymetryfunctionalitytothestandardsystem,theME70alsoprovides
highresolutionseabedmapping.

designedforhighoperatingexibility.Thesystemincludesawidefanofstabilized
beamsforshbehaviourstudies,shschoolcharacterizationandotherpurposes.A
sectorofthesebeamscanbesetupassplitbeamsprovidingdataforsingletargetanalysis
suchastargetstrengthmeasurementsandtargettracking.Thesectorofcalibratednarrow
splitbeamswithlowsidelobelevelsandshortpulselengthsallowforaccuratebiomass
estimationveryclosetobottom.Theabilitytoadjusttheathwartshipcentreangleof
thefanallowsyoutousethesystemforstudyingshclosetoridges.Thedesignalso
allowsyoutouseallthebeamsoverthefullfrequencyrangepointinginonedirection
forfrequencycomparison.

Withinthebandwidthofthetransducer,thelimitsforbeamsteering,andtheminimum
achievablebeamopening,youcanselectthedirections,frequencies,andopeningangles
forthebeamsintheSimradME70.Youwillbeabletosetupthesystemtotyour
requirements,andthesystemwillprovideyouwithareal-timedisplayforqualitycontrol
ofthecurrentdataacquisition.Thesystemcongurationcanbetailoredtoanyuser
requirements,allowingforchoiceofbeamwidthsaswellastransmissionmodes.
TwosystemsareavailabletoexpandtheutilityvalueoftheSimradME70Multibeam
scienticechosoundersystem:
•Bathymetricprocessorsystemforhighresolutionseabedmapping.
•ElementDataLoggerforcollectionofhighvolumeelementdata.
ThebathymetryoptionprovidedfortheSimradME70allowsyoutousetheME70not
onlyasascienticmultibeamechosounderforsheryresearchapplications,butalsoas
amultibeamechosounderforseabedmapping.Additionalhardwareitemsareaddedto
thebasicME70systemtoprovidethisfunctionality,andtheSeaoorInformationSystem
(SIS)softwareisappliedasuserinterface.

ThecomputerissuppliedwithMicrosoft®Windows®7operatingsystem.Itprovides
multipleinterfacesforcommunicationwithrelevantpheripheraldevices.
TheProcessorUnitcommunicateswiththeEthernetswitchintheTransceiverUnitby
meansoftwohighspeedEthernetcables.

TheSimradME70TransceiverUnitishousedina19”instrumentrack.Inorderto
reducethelossinthetransducercables,thetransceiverisphysicallylocatedascloseas
possibletothetransducer.Thetransceivercomputesandgeneratestheelectricsignals
senttothetransducertoformatransmission-a‘ping’.Followingthetransmission,the
transceiverreceivestheechoes.Thesearelteredandamplied,andthenconvertedto
digitalformat.

voltagedropinthepowercables,thesemustbekeptasshortaspossible.

doorwhilepowerisapplied.

TheSimradME70Transducerisplane,andconsists
ofaceramic-polymercompositematrix.Thematching
transformerforeachtransducerelementislocatedin
