TheSimradMS70isahighresolutionMultibeamscienticsonarwithverylowsidelobe
levels.Itisdesignedforcollectionofdatafromthewatercolumn.TheMS70offersanew
dimensiontosheryresearch.Asaschoolofshchangesshapeanddensityconstantly,the
MS70isthebestpossibletooltounderstandthesedynamicswithremotesensing.
TheMS70wastheworld'srstquantitativemultibeamsonarforsheryresearch
applications.
TheMS70isdesignedforsheryresearchapplications.Itoperatesinthefrequencyrangeof
70to120kHzusing800transmittingandreceivingchannels.Thetransducerisnormally
mountedonadropkeel,whichallowsittolookhorizontally.Advancedbeamforming
softwareisusedtoform500beams,thesearespreadout60°horizontallyby45°vertically.
TheMS70Multibeamscienticsonarisdesignedforhighoperatingexibility.Itprovides
anacousticmatrixofstabilizedandcalibratedbeamsforbiomassestimation,shschool
characterizationandbehaviourstudies.
Withinthebandwidthofthetransducer,thelimitsforbeamsteering,andtheminimum
achievablebeamopening,youcanselectthedirections,frequencies,andopeningangles

forthebeams.Y oucansetupthesystemtotyourrequirements,anditwillprovideyou
withareal-timedisplayforqualitycontrolofthecurrentdataacquisition.Thesystem
congurationcanbetailoredtoanyrequirements,allowingforchoiceofbeamwidthsas
wellastransmissionmodes.
TheMS70allowscharacterizationandvolumeestimationofaschoolofshusingonlyone
singletransmission.Schoolsofshcanbetracked,followed,andstudiedusingmultiple
consecutivetransmissions.
Asaconsequenceofthehorizontaltransmissionusingnarrowbeams,theMS70allowsyou
todetectandcharacterizeschoolsofshevenveryclosetotheseasurface.
