DOL 278CT Emergency Opening
1Product Description
DOL 278CT is an emergency opening unit that comprises a 24VDC motor power supply unit with a
built-in, maintenance-free battery and charger.
DOL 278CT has a temperature controlled emergency opening function with optimum safety in case of
a technical failure through a separate temperature sensor and manual setting of the emergency opening
temperature. The climate computer monitors DOL 278CT and its settings and gives an alarm if, for
example, the temperature limit for emergency opening has been set too high by mistake. An alarm is
also given when battery voltage is too low.
DOL 278CT has been designed especially for the demanding house environment both when it comes
to climatic and electrical impacts.

TEST
The green test lamp lights up as long as the voltage is sufficient to open the
winches.
The temperature knob sets the house temperature at which the emergency
opening system is to start working.
The red lamp lights up when the current inside temperature is higher than the
set temperature.
The yellow lamp lights up when the system opens.
2.2 Function Description
DOL 278CT monitors the temperature in the house via its own temperature sensor.
During normal operation, DOL 278CT also produces 24 V DC supply for the DOL 339 climate and
production computer, which cannot itself supply many or powerful winch motors such as e.g. DA 75.
DOL 278CT operates differently depending on whether the climate computer runs side mode or tunnel
mode.

DOL 278CT Emergency Opening
2.2.1 Side mode
Temperature-controlled emergency opening is only activated when the inside temperature exceeds the
temperature to which the emergency opening is set (Emergency opening temperature).
“Temperature-controlled” means that a minor excess temperature gives a slow opening so that an
undercooling of the house is avoided. Correspondingly, a higher excess temperature gives a quicker
opening when needed.
DOL 278CT adjusts every three minutes. If the house temperature exceeds the setting of the
temperature knob by e.g. one degree, the inlets open for just a few seconds every three minutes,
resulting in 40-60 minutes for a total opening with a DA 75 winch motor. At a higher excess
temperature of e.g. six degrees above the setting of the temperature knob, the inlets open several
seconds every three minutes, resulting in 6-10 minutes for a total opening with a DA 75 winch motor.
The integrated battery and charger of the DOL 278CT ensure that the inlets also make a temperature-
controlled emergency opening in case of excess temperature in connection with a power failure.
2.2.2 Tunnel mode
When the climate computer is in tunnel mode, the DOL 278CT will only activate an emergency
opening in case of a power failure, i.e. the temperature-controlled emergency opening is not active in
tunnel mode.
2.3 Setting and Reading the Emergency Opening Temperature
On the DOL 278CT temperature knob, you should set the temperature directly at which the emergency
opening system is to open. The setting can be read in the display of the DOL 339 climate and
production computer together with the temperature setpoint.
When you want to … read the Emergency opening temperature in the display of the DOL
339 climate and production computer, go to the Alarms/Alarm limits/Climate/ Emergency
control/Temperature controlled emergency opening menu
→Emergency opening temperature should be set
approx. 5°C above the Temperature setpoint
2.4 Setting and Connection or Disconnection of Warning at Emergency
Temperature
The DOL 339 climate and production computer can give a warning, which will flash in the display if
Emergency opening temperature is set too high compared to the Temperature setpoint
(inside temperature). This is particularly relevant in houses with batch production and a decreasing
temperature curve. Here, you should continuously make a downward adjustment of Emergency
opening temperature. However, the too high setting may also have been created by mistake.
The warning function can be connected or disconnected. It must be set with the number of degrees that
Emergency opening temperature is allowed to exceed the Temperature setpoint before the
computer is to give a warning.

When you want to … connect or disconnect and set the warning at emergency temperature, go to
the Alarms/Alarm limits/Climate/Temperature controlled emergency opening
menu, and
→turn until Warning at emergency temperature is
marked, and press
→turn until Warning emergency temperature limit is
marked, and press
→turn to set a number of degrees, and press to save the change
when Yes is marked
2.5 Connection or Disconnection of Battery Alarm and Setting the Reading of
Battery Voltage
The temperature-controlled emergency opening system has a battery, which ensures that the
emergency opening system will operate in spite of power failure when the inside temperature exceeds
the setting of the Emergency opening temperature.
You can read the current and the lowest measured voltage of the battery. These readings indicate when
you need to change the battery or if a technical error is causing the battery alarm. DOL 339 can
generate an alarm when the battery, which powers the emergency opening system, does not function.
This function can be connected or disconnected.
When you want to … connect or disconnect the battery alarm, go to the Alarms/ Alarm
limits/Climate/Temperature controlled emergency opening menu, and
→turn until Battery alarm is marked, and press to connect
or disconnect
Make sure not to set the Battery voltage limit too low, as this will make the alarm
inactive.

2.6 Weekly Testing
The emergency opening system MUST be tested once a week in order to ensure that the
emergency opening system works faultlessly.
During the summer season, the test is carried out early in the morning where the winches
have not yet opened completely and the curtains are closed.
2.6.1 Testing DOL 278CT
When you want to … test DOL 278CT and the system is in side mode, do the following
1) note the setting of the temperature knob
2) check if the system runs in side mode. The side mode icon must be shown in the survey
menu of DOL 339. If the system runs tunnel mode , it is necessary to wait with the
testing until in the evening or in the morning when it is colder and the system has
automatically switched to side mode
3) turn the knob of DOL 278CT to TEST
4) check if the red and the yellow lamps switch on
5) check if the system opens in the house
6) switch off mains voltage to DOL 278CT and the DOL 339 climate and production computer
7) check if the system opens completely
The green TEST-lamp remains on during the whole testing to signal that the battery voltage is
sufficient (i.e. > 16 V)
8) switch on mains voltage again and turn the temperature knob back to the starting point
9) check if the system closes correctly again
10) repeat the testing to make sure that the battery voltage is ample

When you want to… test DOL 278CT and the system is in tunnel mode, do the following
11) set the system to tunnel mode by changing the setting of the DA 75CT curtain motor from
AUT (automatic) to MAN (manual) and pressing Ç- and let the curtain open completely
12) repeat the above items 6-10
13) IMPORTANT – remember to change the setting of the DA 75CT to AUT (automatic) again
3Maintenance Instructions
3.1 Maintenance
Replace the battery module at least every three years.
3.1.1 Battery Voltage Check
Battery voltage can be measured by carrying out “Weekly testing” several consecutive times until the
battery can no-longer open the motors. This way, a realistic measurement is achieved of how many
times the house can be opened emergency-wise using the battery. It should be possible to open the
house at least twice in a row using the battery when it is fully charged. Charging the battery fully takes
approx. three hours.
3.2 Cleaning
Clean DOL 278CT with a firmly wrung cloth, do not use solvents. Do not expose it to water jets or
high-pressure cleaning.
As for all electronic equipment, it is best for DOL 278CT to be connected all the time as this will keep
it dry and free from condensation.
Removal for Recycling
Disassemble the product into the following fractions:
Plastic box and screwed connections
Battery and electric components
Deliver all the parts to a recycling system. You can also return the entire instrument to SKOV A/S
who will then ensure that it is reprocessed correctly in the normal Danish recycling system.
