IMPORTANT
NOTES CONCERNING THE ALARM SYSTEM
Where climatic control is used in livestock buildings, breakdowns, malfunctions or faulty settings may cause
substantial damage and financial losses. It is therefore essential to install a separate, independent alarm system
which monitors the house concurrently with the climate and production controller. According to EU directives
98/58/EU an alarm system must be installed in any house that is mechanically ventilated.
Please note that the product liability clause of SKOV A/S’ general terms and conditions of sale and delivery
specifies that an alarm system must be installed.
In case of operating error or improper use, ventilation systems can result in production loss or
cause loss of lives among animals.
SKOV A/S recommend that ventilation systems should be mounted, operated and serviced only
by trained staff and that a separate emergency opening unit and an alarm system be installed as
well as maintained and tested at regular intervals, according to SKOV A/S’ terms and conditions
of sale and delivery.
Qualified personnel must perform installation, service and fault-finding of all electrical
equipment in accordance with the applicable national and international standard EN 60204-1 and
any other EU standards that are applicable in Europe.
The installation of a power supply isolator is required for each motor and power supply to
facilitate voltage-free work on the electrical equipment. SKOV A/S does not supply the power
supply isolator.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
DOL 53X is a climate and production controller designed for poultry houses. It is capable of regulating and
monitoring the climate and regulating production and has a complete two-zone control system to regulate
temperature, humidity, ventilation, cooling and humidification in two separate zones.
DOL 534/DOL 539 is available with the following system software versions for climate control:

This manual describes the functionality of all three variants (hereinafter DOL 53X).
Curve regulation
DOL 53X can regulate the climate based on curves for temperature, heat, humidity, chill –outdoor temperature,
chill –factor, minimum and maximum ventilation. It is therefore not necessary to adjust the climate settings in
your daily work.
Optimised regulation
DOL 53X has a method for advanced climate control which improves the association between the humidity and
temperature regulation in the house. The method is based on heating and ventilation as the crucial regulation
parameters but the result is a much softer and smoother regulation. The present climate is thus currently being
optimised by using the collected historical data.

GUIDELINES
This user's manual deals with operating DOL 53X. The user’s manual provides the user with the fundamental
knowledge about the functions of the controller that is required to ensure optimum use of DOL 53X.
Some functions are optional and only used in specific set-ups of the house controller. These functions are
shown with an optional icon
If a function is not used, e.g. Extra sensor, it is not shown on the controller's user menus. The manual can
therefore contain sections that are not relevant to the specific set-up of your controller. See also Technical
Manual or, if necessary, contact SKOV A/S service or your dealer.
This manual's User Guide consists of a general introduction,
which describes briefly how to operate the house controller.
This is followed by descriptions of DOL 53X's functions,
divided into four main sections. Both the main sections and the
subsections follow the same order as the functions have in DOL
53X's menus.

Each section is introduced with a menu outline in table form.
The outline is used to give an overview of the setting options for
the different functions as well as to see where in the menus a
given setting can be found.
It is written on the left side of the table, if a setting is only
available in a few variants or in the case of specific set-ups.
This is followed by a short general description of the function
and short descriptions in list format of the individual
parameters.
If more detailed descriptions are required, the reader is referred
from the short descriptions to the subsequent sections with
examples and illustrations.

2 Front-view
The front view can be set up so that it shows the specific functions and values used in the individual animal
houses. DOL 53X has three types of front views, which can be selected depending on the daily needs of the
user.
Daily overview: Simple view with a quick overview, selected values and limited operational options.
Function display: Flexible view with up to 16 optional values and settings.
Ventilation view Detailed display of the parameters that determine the current ventilation.
Select the front view Daily overview for easy access and a quick
overview of daily usage of the functions used most often.
It is also possible to select predefined front views, in which the
selected values and displays are customised for different animal
types.
Press and select Front view configuration/ Load default front
views.

2.1 Daily View
Click once on or to change a set value. There are only 30 seconds to make the change.
Editing will then be blocked for a period.
Temperature
DOL 53X displays the current inside temperature.
Click on or to customise the inside temperature to the
desired temperature in the livestock housing.
Adjustment: +/- 0.5°C.
Next possible adjustment: in two hours
Humidity
DOL 53X displays the livestock housing's current humidity.
Click on or to adjust the humidity to the desired humidity
in the livestock housing.
Adjustment: +/- 5 %
Next possible adjustment: in 24 hours
Air quality
DOL 53X displays the livestock housing's current minimum
ventilation.
Click on or to adjust the ventilation to the required air
quality.
Adjustment: +/- 5 %
Next possible adjustment: in two hours
Number of animals
DOL 53X shows the total number of animals added or removed
on the relevant day.
Click on or to add or remove a number of animals.
Enter the morning and evening numbers of animals added or
removed.
The total number is reset at the beginning of every day
(midnight).

2.2 Function Display
Select the flexible function view to select the values and settings to be made available on the front. See section
1.1.3.3 for setting up front views.
By selecting 1-6 functions, the DOL 53X displays large icons.
By selecting 7-16 functions DOL 53X will display small icons.
The front views may have several pages. Press the arrows
to switch between pages.
For certain functions, there is access from the front view to change
the corresponding value by pressing on the icon .
Sub-menus can also be accessed by pressing the icon .
When an icon is displayed without colour, it is because the data for
this function is not currently available.
2.3 Ventilation view
Select one or more graphical view of the ventilation system's current status. The purpose of these views is to
make it easier to determine which factors influence the ventilation system's current status. There is also quick
access to change the displayed settings by pressing the tool-tip .
Ventilation requirement
Displays the parameters that affect the current ventilation.
In this example, ventilation is based exclusively on temperature.

indicates whether the ventilation level is rising or falling.

Displays the current ventilation level and status of each air inlet.
2.4 Setting up the Front View
Press and select Set up front view.
Setting up the front view is made in four steps.
Step 1. Select functions
Tick the menu items to be displayed on the front view.
indicates a selected function or front view.
Step 2. Add more pages (optional)
Press on to add more pages to the front view (max. 5 in total).
The same function can also be selected to displays on several pages,
if this is required

Step 3. Select info views
Tick the info views to be shown on the front view.
Step 4. Adjust the order of the display
Press on a function and then press on another function in order to get
the two functions to switch places.

It is also possible to change the order of the functions on the pages
by pressing on a function and switching pages using and .
2.5 Main menus
There is access to all functions from the main menus.
The menus are divided up into the following sub-menus: Climate,
Production, Operation, Alarm settings, Technical, and Front view
configuration.
An icon path in the menus indicates the current display.

2.5.1 Changing the Settings
Press and to change the current value. A blue mark on
the bar displays the change.
Press to implement the change.
Press to undo.
Press to be given the option of entering the setting using the
numeric keypad.

2.6 Alarm Log
The icon for alarm log indicates the number of active alarms, as
long as an alarm situation has not ended.
DOL 53X shows the alarms as a pop-up.
Press to acknowledge the alarm.
Press to open the alarm log.
The alarm log contains information such as:
-When the alarm occurred.
-When it was acknowledged.
-When it was deactivated (the state of alarm ceased).
-The value that triggered the alarm.
Other active alarms are marked on the list.
-Hard alarms are marked in red.
-Soft alarms are marked in yellow.
Deactivated alarms are grey.
The alarm relay is only trigged by hard alarms.
Soft alarms generate a pop-up in the display. See also section 5.
2.7 Selection of Language
Select Selection of language and highlight the desired
language.

2.8 Password
This section is relevant only to houses where the use of Password is
activated.
DOL 53X can be protected against unauthorised operation with the use of passwords. This function can be
activated in the menu Technical/ Use password.
In order to have access to changing a setting, you must enter a password that corresponds to the user level
which the relevant function is found at (Daily, Advanced and Service).
Enter four digits.
After entering the password, DOL 53X can be operated at the
corresponding user level until it returns to the front view after 10
minutes without activity.
Set the controller back to the front view after operation. After one
minute a password will be required again.
You can change the password for each of the three user levels in the menu Operation/ Change password. See

3.2.1 Setpoints

additions is the basis for DOL 53X’s calculations of the house's ventilation
requirement (see section 3.2.1.1).
Temperature setpoint
Upper temperature setpoint (see section 3.2.1.1) that activates ventilation.
Heating offset
Offset set to the required temperature. When the housing temperature drops below
the required temperature by more than the set number of degrees, DOL 53X
activates the heat supply for the house. See section 3.2.1.3.1.
Absolute heating
temperature
The calculated temperature that activates the room heating supply
(= Temperature –Heating offset).
FreeRange heat

When the inside temperature is too high, DOL 53X increases the ventilation level to supply more fresh
air. When the temperature is too low, the controller reduces the ventilation level to keep the heat in the
house and supplies possibly more heat.
3.2.1.1 Temperature Setpoint with Additions
The Temperature setpoint is the basis for DOL 53X’s calculations of the ventilation requirement of the house. If
the controller is set up with the functions; comfort temperature, humidity control with temperature reduction or
day and night adjustment, the controller will correct the temperature setpoint by increasing or decreasing a few
degrees and calculating ventilation requirements accordingly.
3.2.1.2 Temperature Setpoint
DOL 53X regulates the indoor temperature according to the Temperature setpoint.
Using zone control, front and rear have their own individual temperature setting. Thus, the temperature can be
set separately in each individual zone; however, the two zones use the same temperature curve.
If you want to change the temperature with the same number of degrees in both zones, you can change through
the curve.

If you only want to change the temperature setting in one of the zones, or change both zones but with a
different number of degrees in each individual zone, you have to do it through Temperature setpoint.
3.2.1.3 Heat-offset
This section is relevant only to houses with heating systems.
DOL 53X can regulate two types of heating:
Room heating: Used to heat the entire house and cold areas in the house. All heaters connected as
room heaters are regulated according to the same temperature setpoint.
Stand-alone heating: Used for instance as heating for brooding. Each heater has its own temperature
setting.
3.2.1.3.1 Room Heating
Room heating can be regulated as common or individual heating.
Common room heating: Up to two heaters are regulated according to a common heating requirement.
Individual room heating: For each heater, choose which sensors are to control the heating requirement. Up to
six heaters in one-zone houses or up to four heaters in each zone in two-zone houses
can be used.
Set heating offset
In houses with heating systems, DOL 53X regulates the inside temperature according to the set temperature,
Temperature, and according to a lower temperature limit, Absolute heating temperature.
