Star Portable Printer Battery Guide
This guide provides information and considerations on how to keep the battery
powering your Star Micronics Portable Printer operating at its best.

What kind of batteries do Star Portable Printers support?
Star Portable Printers support Lithium-Ion (also known as “Li-Ion”) batteries.
Is there an advantage to using a Li-Ion Battery compared to other types?
Li-Ion is a widely accepted type of rechargeable portable battery and is the most common
type used in modern electronics like cell phones, laptops, mobile printers and more.
The Li-Ion battery was preceded by Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) and Nickel Metal Hydride
(NiMH) types. These older batteries were prone to “the memory effect” causing them to
lose energy capacity over time if they were charged when only partially discharged. Li-Ion
batteries are not subject to this issue, are lightweight and can be produced in many shapes.
Do Star Portable Printers ship with a battery and charger?
Yes, every Star Portable Printer ships with one battery pack and a charger cable.
Note: The above battery pack is designed for the SM-T300. Batteries for other Star models may vary in appearance.

How do I maintain my battery for best performance?
Get the best performance and longest life out of your battery by following these guidelines:
Use the battery pack to power only the Star Portable Printer model it was designed for
Use only the approved Star Micronics charger to charge the battery pack
Fully charge the battery prior to using the printer
Remove the battery pack if the printer is or will be out of use for several days
Do not disassemble or modify the battery pack
Do not use, charge, or leave the battery pack near a fire, in direct sunlight,
or in any other hot location
Do not drop the battery pack or subject it to strong shocks
Do not immerse the battery in water or allow it to be splashed by liquid
Can I mix and match batteries among different Star models?
Star Portable Printer batteries cannot be traded between printer series due to differences
in battery shape and size. For example, the SM-S200 cannot swap a battery with the SM-
T300. However, batteries can be freely traded among Star Printers within the same series;
therefore, one SM-S200 can swap a battery with another SM-S200.
Can I use any charger to charge my battery?
Star Micronics strongly urges using only a Star charger to charge batteries. The Star
charger was designed for and tested extensively with the provided battery models and are
guaranteed to operate correctly when used under the recommended conditions. Star
chargers supply the correct amount of voltage and amplitude necessary, but this cannot be
guaranteed if a third party device is used.
How long will my battery stay charged?
Charge life depends on many factors, including:
•If the work shift began with a fully charged battery
•Length of print out
•Amount of information printed
•Frequency of printing
•If Auto Power Down Mode is configured
•Battery Age
•…And More
The typical life of one new fully-charged Star battery is a minimum of 9hours and can
extend up to 17 hours depending on the Star Printer model used in Eco-Friendly Mode.

How long will it take my battery to charge?
It will take approximately 4hours to fully charge one Star battery from 0% to 100% when
the battery is installed in the printer or single unit charger. When using the multi-dock
4station charger, it will take approximately 90 to 120 minutes to charge one or multiple
batteries.
Can I charge the battery if it isn’t installed in the printer?
Yes, Star Micronics provides an optional single unit charging station. This accessory is
hooked directly to a wall outlet and provides an LED status bar to inform the user if the
battery is in the charging or charged stage.
Can I charge multiple batteries at once?
Yes, Star Micronics provides an optional multi-dock station which is capable of charging
up to four batteries at once. This accessory is hooked directly to a wall outlet and provides
an LED status bar to inform the user if the battery is in the charging or charged state.

Can I charge my battery in a vehicle?
Yes, Star Micronics provides an optional Car Charger that connects to most cigarette
lighter adapters in vehicles.
How do I know when to replace my battery?
If your printer begins to print at a much slower pace, loses print quality, or makes grinding
noises, it may be time to replace your battery. Troubleshoot these symptoms by replacing
the existing battery with a new one. If further assistance is needed, feel free to contact the
Star Micronics Technical Support Department or your dealer.
How should I dispose of a used battery?
For the US and Canada:
Lithium-Ion batteries are recyclable. You can help preserve our environment
by returning your used rechargeable batteries to the collection and recycling
location nearest you.

For Europe, Asia, South America, and Other Countries:
The disposal process of batteries varies from country to country. Kindly refer to the
appropriate measures mandating the disposal method of the country in which your
Star Portable Printer will be or is currently used.
How long does Star Micronics cover my battery under warranty?
Star Micronics offers a standard Manufacturer Warranty of six months for all batteries.
Any defective battery units not caused by misuse or abuse will be replaced by Star.
