1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 About this manual
This document describes the daily handling of the TTP 101 Kiosk Printer.
The printer is a system component that is usually built into other type of products such as
information terminals and vending machines. This means that we cannot describe the
actual design with respect to the position of the paper roll, the paper feed switch or the
power-ON/OFF switch.
Since the behavior of the printer to a large extent depends on the design of the
application software, please also refer to the applicable system documentation.
NOTE! — The manual describes the standard version of the TTP 101 equipped with
firmware (printer program) version 1.17.
1.2 Updating
As, from time to time, printer functions and features may be added or amended, this
manual will be updated. No automatic distribution of new editions is, however, planned.
Registered manual owners (see registration form at the end of the manual) will be kept
informed about new editions, product changes, etc. through our bulletin service. Updated
manuals can be ordered by fax or phone.
You can also download the current manual edition from the Manuals area of our BBS
(phone number at the back of the title page). The manual is supplied in the Adobe
Acrobat file format. By downloading the free Acrobat Reader program from the same
area in the BBS, you can view and print the manual locally without the need of any other
program.
If you require functions not found in the manual edition at your disposal, please consult
one of our offices for information.

3 PAPER LOADING
1. Switch off the printer and raise the paper release lever to an upright position.
2. Remove the paper roll core (not shown) and any remaining pieces of paper in the
presenter module.
Figure 2. Remove the remaining paper (printer as seen from behind).
3. Turn the new paper roll as shown. The paper should be inserted into the printer with
the temperature-sensitive side up.
Figure 3. Turn the paper roll so that the paper leaves the roll from the top.

4. Tear off approximately 0.5 m from the new paper roll.
CAUTION!
This is important since the outer end of the paper is usually fixed to the roll with
some type of glue or self-adhesive substance that might otherwise cause paper
jam or even printhead damage.
Figure 4. Tear off 0.5 m from the new paper roll
5. Insert the paper through the opening at the back of the printer and push the paper
until it becomes visible in the presenter module.
6. Lower the paper release lever.
Figure 5. Insert the new paper
7. Verify that the printer is switched OFF.
8. Press the paper feed switch and keep it depressed.

TTP 101 Kiosk Printer Sub-system – Operating Instructions 96-058
9. Switch the power ON and keep the paper feed button depressed for at least 5
seconds. The printer enters a self-test mode and produces a printout showing some
technical data, and (repeatedly) all characters that can be produced by the printer.
NOTE! — The printer is off-line and cannot receive any data while in the self test
mode.
10. Release the paper feed button to stop the printing. The printer cuts and ejects the
document, but remains in the self test mode. Renewed actuation of the paper feed
button produces a demo test print-out followed by cut and eject.
11. Exit the self test mode by switching the power OFF.
12. Set the printer in normal operation mode by switching it ON again.
4 CLEANING
Remove paper dust from the presenter module by blowing, or by using a vacuum
cleaner, or a soft brush.
5 STORAGE
CAUTION!
If the printer is not to be used for a long period of time, disengage the printhead from
the print platen by raising the paper release lever to upright position. Both the
printhead and the platen will otherwise be deformed.

6 FAULT FINDING
Symptom Suggested actions
Printer does not work at all. • Check that the printer is switched ON.
• Check that the paper release lever is
lowered.
• Check that the printer is connected to a live
wall outlet.
Nothing is printed but the document
becomes cut and ejected. • Check that the paper roll is turned the
correct way.
• Check that the paper used meets the paper
specification. See TTP 101 Technical
Specification.
Bad cutting (uneven top and bottom
document edges). • Switch OFF the printer and remove any
obstructing paper particles in cutter and
presenter modules.
Test document can be produced, but the
printer works strangely in normal operation. • Check that both ends of the data cable are
connected.
• Application program might be incorrect.
Contact system manager.
Missing print or irregular spots. • Paper may be too humid. Let it adapt to
ambient temperature and humidity for
approximately 24 hours before use.
• The paper used might not conform to the
paper specification. See TTP 101

Printout contains white longitudinal lines. • Printhead needs cleaning or is defect. Call
service.
Faint print dots. • The paper used may not conform to the
paper specification. See TTP 101
