1 FOR YOUR SAFETY
In this d cument y u will be intr duced h w t use M dem PCI G10 device safely. We
suggest y u t adhere t f ll wing rec mmendati ns t av id any damage t pers n r pr perty.
Y u have t be familiar with the safety requirements bef re starting t use the device!
M dem PCI G10 is used f r data transfer by GSM netw rk. The m dem is designed t be
c nnected t a PC thr ugh PCI interface. By c nnecting the m dem t a PC it is p ssible t
c nnect t the Internet using GSM data transfer channel. T av id user injures that c uld be
caused by heat r electrical v ltage it is imp rtant t f ll w safety requirements listed bel w.
Installati n and technical supp rt f the device can be
perf rmed nly by a service pers nnel r a pers n wh has
en ugh kn wledge ab ut this device and safety requirements.
The PC t which the M dem PCI G10 device is t be c nnected must have a PCI sl t.
M dem is supplied fr m +5V DC PCI interface.
The PC t which the device is c nnected shall c mply with the
requirements f standard EN 60950-1. M dem PCI G10 m dem
can be used n first (Pers nal C mputer) safety class. It has t
be fixed t PC chassis by 3mm screw and spacer.
T av id mechanical damage f the device, it is rec mmended t transp rt the device
packed in damage-pr f pack.
Signal level f the m dem depends n the envir nment in which it is w rking.

If the device fails t w rk pr perly, nly qualified pers nnel may repair this pr duct. We
rec mmend t dismantle the device and f rward it t repair center r t the manufacturer. The
m dem d es n t c ntain any parts, which can be replaced.
In the installati n, place and supply circuits sh uld be t l up pr tective devices (bip lar
back up pr tecti n device) which will pr tect fr m sh rt-circuit and wr ng gr und installati n.
The p wer f c nnected device sh uld satisfy p wer f release device. The interstice between
c ntacts sh uld be n less than 3mm.
T turn ff the m dem, unplug the PC fr m the p wer supply.
After installati n the drivers restart y ur PC.
SIM card is mandat ry f r setting up c nnecti n t the GSM netw rk. H wever, the
manufacturer f this equipment d es n t supply the SIM card. The SIM card can be
purchased fr m y ur GSM (m bile) service pr vider!
F r APN, user name and passw rd please c ntact y ur GSM (m bile) service pr vider.
The PC must be p wered ff while inserting r taking ut the SIM card. If the SIM card
will be inserted r taken ut fr m the m dem while the PC p wer is n – it may cause
damage t the m dem r the SIM card. In this case, the m dem will n t be replaced r
repaired by the guarantee.
The m dem can be unplugged fr m the PC nly when PC is p wered ff.
2 USER‘S SERVICE

3 BASIC INFORMATION
3.1 Introduction
M dem PCI G10 is a device designed f r data transmissi n via GSM Netw rk. Once a
SIM card is inserted in the m dem and the PC is p wered n, y u w uld be able t send SMS,
access internet via GPRS/GSM netw rks (m bile netw rks). M dem PCI G10 supp rts the
f ll wing data-bearers: CSD, GPRS, and SMS.

5 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

5.4 Operating systems
5.4.1 Windows2000/2003/XP/Vista
Aut matic drivers and MCT (M dem C ntr l T l) installati n. See “H w t start”
secti n.
5.4.2 Windows98/ME
Drivers can be installed manually fr m the CD (D:\Drivers\Win98_ME). New driver
versi n can be d wnl aded fr m http://www.m schip.c m/html/MCS9820.html. After driver
installati n new COM p rt appears. M dem sh uld be installed manually as “Standard 33600 bps
M dem” n created COM p rt. COM p rt speed is 115200 bps. Hardware fl w c ntr l have t
be enabled. In m dem pr perties extra settings AT+CGDc nt c mmand sh uld be initialized. F r
example: “AT+CGDc nt=1,"IP","banga"”.
5.4.3 Linux
Manual serial device installati n. Serial device sh uld be detected and created with the
baud base 921600. M dem can be accessible thr ugh created serial p rt at speed 115200 bps.
The c nfigurati n f serial p rt is: 115200 bps, 8 bit, St p bits – 1, Parity – n ne, Hardware fl w
c ntr l enabled.
M dem PCI G10 have been tested with f ll wing linux perating systems:
−Fed ra (C re 2,3,4 and 5)
−Redhat9 (2.4.20)
−Suse 9 (32-bit and 64-bit)
−Slackware 10.0
5.5 Operating Parameters
M dem PCI G10 m dem derives +5V DC p wer fr m the PCI bus, theref re, the PC

5.6 Mechanical characteristics
M dem PCI G10 m dem is a b ard, which is m unted int the m therb ard f a PC.
B ard can be fixed t PC chassis by 3mm screw. The m dem c mmunicates with m therb ard
by PCI interface. External view and measurements (in mm) f the device are sh wn in Figure 1.

6 HOW TO START?
6.1 Driver and Software Installation
In rder t install M dem PCI G10 drivers and s ftware, d the f ll wing:
Turn ff y ur PC. M unt the M dem PCI G10 m dem int the m therb ard f a PC.
Insert SIM card int the m dem. Turn n y ur PC.
Insert the CD int CD-ROM.
Click Install in aut matically pened wind w. The installati n pr cedure f the M dem
PCI G10 m dem will begin.

6.2 Software description
This secti n pr vides the main inf rmati n ab ut MCT (M dem C ntr l T l), its
settings and features.
6.2.1 Modem ontrol Tool Preparation to Work
Bef re starting w rking with M dem C ntr l T l, make sure that:
Y u have a GSM SIM card with activated data transfer service;
TCP/IP pr t c l supp rt is installed in the PC (Operating System);
M dem PCI G10 is set t w rk – drivers and s ftware are installed, SIM card is inserted,
m dem is c nnected t the PC, LED is blinking.

T run the M dem C ntr l T l, d uble click the MCT pict gram l cated n the deskt p,
r g t Start → Pr grams → Telt nika → M demPCI G10 → M dem C ntr l T l PCI G10. If
the pr gram is run f r the first time r there are m re than ne m dems installed, a wind w
asking t select m dem fr m the list will appear.
Click OK. In the pened wind w ch se Telt nika M dem PCI G10 Present and click
Set As Current M dem, and OK.
If PIN c de request is active in y ur SIM card, a wind w f r inserting the PIN c de will
appear.
If y u will enter wr ng PIN c de three times in a r w, the pr gram will ask t enter the
PUK c de! When the required data inserted c rrectly, click OK and the main M dem C ntr l
T l wind w will pen.

6.2.2 onnecting to Internet
One f the f ll wing c nnecting types can be used in rder t c nnect t the Internet
using the M dem PCI G10 m dem:
GPRS. In this case, y u have t kn w the APN, and s metimes user name and passw rd;
CSD. In this case y u have t kn w the ph ne number f the dial-up server.
Note: APN, user name and passw rd are pr vided by the GSM perat r.
In rder t c nnect t the Internet, enter the required data in C nnecti n wind w. In the
main MCT wind w click Settings → C nnecti n. Enter c nnecti n data as sh wn bel w. T
save the entered data, click Update.
Bef re c nnecting t the Internet, check the GSM signal quality (see the indicat r l cated
n the right side f the M dem C ntr l T l pr gram). Als check if the Netw rk indicat r is
green. If the signal indicat r sh ws l w signal quality, place the m dem t m re pen place,
where the signal will n t be bl cked by thick walls r ceilings. Placing the device near wind w
may als help.
M dem will start c nnecting t the Internet after the C nnect symb l is clicked in the
main MCT wind w (if the APN, user name and passw rd were entered c rrectly).
If the M dem PCI G10 m dem c nnects t the Internet, red indicat r den ted as
Disc nnected n the left c rner f MCT wind w turns green and will be den ted as C nnected.

When c nnected t the Internet, n the b tt m side f MCT y u will be able t m nit r
d wnl aded/upl aded traffic, upl ad/d wnl ad speed time while c nnected.
In rder t disc nnect fr m the Internet, click Disc nnect in the main M dem C ntr l
T l wind w.
6.2.3 Sending SMS
With M dem PCI G10 y u can send and receive SMS messages. Bef re
sending/receiving SMS messages y u must disc nnect fr m Internet! In rder t send SMS, click
SMS in the main MCT wind w. A Sh rt message service wind w will pen.
In the pened wind w, enter the receiver’s ph ne number in the Ph ne number field.
“+“is entered aut matically. The message text is entered in the Message text field. Message can
be f 160 characters. If y u tick the Use extended character set, y u will be able t use specific
symb ls in y ur message, but the number f characters will be reduced t 70.
If y u want t l k f r received, read r sent SMS messages, click Unread, Read r Sent
in the Sh rt message service wind w. If y u want t f rward r reply, d uble click n the
message. A Message wind w will appear.

T make a reply t the message, click Reply. T f rward – F rward. T cl se the wind w
– Cl se. Settings f M dem PCI G10
T set M dem PCI G10 m dem parameters r t change them, click Settings in the main
M dem C ntr l T l wind w. If y u click Main in the Settings wind w, y u will be able t
ch se a m dem fr m the list f m dems installed in y ur PC.
If y u click C nnecti n in the Settings wind w, y u will be able t change the M dem
PCI G10 m dem Internet c nnecti n parameters.
If y u click Settings → Security, a Security wind w will pen where y u can enable r
disable PIN c de query.
T enable PIN c de query, ch se PIN C de Query Enabled in Security State frame and
click Update. A p p-up wind w will appear. Enter the PIN c de f y ur SIM card in the Insert
Pin C de field and click OK.
N w, the M dem C ntr l T l pr gram will ask f r the PIN c de each time y u turn n
y ur PC.
T disable PIN c de query, ch se PIN C de Query Disabled in Security State frame and
click Update.
SMS center number is sh wn in Settings → SMS.

6.3 Uninstalling Modem PCI G10
T uninstall M dem PCI G10 m dem, g t :
Step 1. Start → Pr grams → Telt nika M dem PCI G10 → Uninstall.

y ur PC.

7 TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Unforeseen cases and alternative modes
7.1 Modem Control Tool does not detect the modem.
Solution: Check if the device is inserted in the m therb ard and its “Status” LED is ON.
Reb t the PC.
7.2 Cannot connect to the Internet.
Solution: Check if the SIM card is inserted pr perly. Check if antenna is plugged in.
Check if the c rrect netw rk parameters are set in M dem C ntr l T l pr gram (Settings →
C nnecti n → APN, User Name, and Passw rd). Reb t the PC.
