Section 1 Introduction and Safety
Information
The Level Monitor Unit monitors the water level of storage tanks to assure
efficient and trouble-free operation.The unit offered can operate either as a
direct-acting or reverse-acting unit. The direct-acting unit is normally used
to start the tank refilling procedure and to control the tank upper water
level to protect the tank from over-filling. The reverse-acting unit is
normally used to monitor the lower water level and to stop auxiliary
equipment, such as a pump, to protect it against damage due to low water
level conditions in the storage tank.
The Level Monitor Unit consists of a controller/indicator and a U-tube
assembly. The controller/indicator contains; a pressure plate mounted
electrical switch; electrical contacts and associated wiring. The U-tube
Assembly connects to the diaphragm housing and is used to mount the
level monitor on the storage tank.
Functionally the Level Monitor operates as a pressure controlled electrical
switch which changes state on rising water head pressure.
This manual contains important operating and safety information. The
user must carefully read and understand the contents of this manual prior
to the use of this equipment.
Your Level Monitor has been designed with function, reliability, and safety
in mind. t is your responsibility to install it in conformance with local
electrical codes. For safe operation, pay attention to Notes, Cautions, and
Warnings throughout the manual.

To avoid electrical shock, always:
1. Use a properly grounded electrical outlet of correct voltage and current
handling capacity.
2. Disconnect from the power supply prior to maintenance and servicing.
To avoid personal injury:
1. Do not use in the presence of flammable or combustible materials; fire
or explosion may result. This device contains components which may
ignite such materials.
2. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

1. Simultaneously press and hold the ↕and → buttons, to enter
programming.
2. The display shows PASSWORD, then press the →button.
3. The display shows 0000 then press the → button four times.
4. The display shows OK, then press the →button.
5. The display shows CLR MAX/MIN, then press the ↕ button.
6. The display shows SET UNITS, then press the →button.
7. The display shows 5.000 PSI, then press the ↕button until the display
shows 138.5 “WC.
8. Then press the →button.

Direct Acting Monitor
Direct acting monitors are used for the on/off operation of stills.
Contacts open on rise and close on fall.
Reverse Acting Monitor
Reverse acting monitors are used for the on/off action of distribution
pumps. Contacts are close on rise, open on fall.

Section 4 Installation
Factory nstallation
The level monitor is not normally mounted at the factory when purchased
with a storage tank. Connect the level monitor electrically as shown on the
wiring diagram included with the equipment. Adjust the level monitor as
described in the ADJUSTMENT section of this manual. Refer to the
TECHN CAL CHARACTER ST CS section for the switch contact full load
rating limits for the external equipment.
Field nstallation
The following procedures are the recommended method(s) for installing the
level monitor unit(s) when not factory installed.
Note To ensure proper installation, installation should be done by qualified
personnel. Read these procedures thoroughly. f any portion of them is unclear
to you or you have unanswered questions concerning them, contact Technical
Services before proceeding.
1. nstall a 3/8 inch NPT tin-lined (for distilled water storage tanks) spud 24
inches (610 mm) from the top of the tank as shown in Figure 4-1. f the
spud cannot be located 24 inches (610 mm) from the top of the tank,
locate the spud as close to 24 inches (610 mm) as physically possible.
Note nstallation in a Thermo Scientific tank (cylindrical), refer to the tank
manual to properly install the Level Monitor in the proper port. ▲
2. nstall the U-tube assembly in the spud; then install the level monitor
controller into the U-tube assembly using Teflon® ribbon tape on the
piping connections.
Caution Do not tighten the level monitor by hand by holding the case. To
avoid leaks and damage to the case, use a parallel jaw wrench on the level
monitor’s hexagonal fitting. ▲
3. Connect the level monitor to the LWCO box (twist lock cord) and the
power side to a 12W receptacle per the Wiring Diagram provided in the
enclosed operating manual on CD. Refer to the TECHN CAL
CHARACTER ST CS section for the switch contact full load rating limits
for the external equipment.
4. Adjust the level monitor as described in the ADJUSTMENT and
MA NTENANCE sections in the operating manual.
Note Level Monitor has been preset to the following set points. SW1 = 17”
and DB1 = 7”. Refer to Programming Flow Chart to make adjustments to suit
your tank.
