1Getting Started
•Please read these assembly instructions carefully.
•The stand and the mill are heavy. Use caution and plan carefully when lifting and moving them.
•Wear protecting articles such as work clothes, gloves etc. in order to avoid personal injury or damage
to clothes.
•Gather all the appropriate tools.
•Add silicone caulk to seams and bolt holes. Let the silicone caulk cure before removing the excess.
•It is best if two people to assemble the stand.

2Receiving the Stand
Your PCNC 1100 Stand is delivered in a two wooden
shipping crates banded together with steel bands. A
pallet jack or fork truck can be used to transport the
crates to the installation site.
WARNING! Steel bands can be dangerous.
Use care and wear leather gloves and eye protection
when cutting the bands on the crate (Figure 1). The
smaller upper crate contains sheet metal components.
Remove these and store off to the side.
The larger bottom crate contains the base and splash
guards. Remove the crate sides, plastic covering and
cloth straps. Set aside the splash guards. Locate the
coolant tank in a side compartment. Most of the smaller
components will be stored in the tank as shown in Figure
2. Set the coolant tank aside.
Next, with 2 people turn the base on its side. Then
unbolt the base from the pallet as shown in Figure 3.

3Attaching the Feet to the Base
Once the pallet is removed and while the base is
still on it’s side is a good time to attach the feet to
the stand. First grease the inner and outer
threads on the feet with any multi purpose grease
(Figure 4). Otherwise they will rust and future
adjustment will be impossible.
Next insert the bolt into the foot pad and place the
spacer on the bolt as shown in Figure 5. The spacer
brings the stand to the correct height and makes
room for a pallet jack under the stand. Then
fasten the feet to the base.
To review the foot installation steps are:
1. Place the Spacer (3) onto the bolt of Iron Foot
Pad (4);
2. Insert the bolt of the Foot Pad (4) into the
base;
3. Add the Flat Washer (2) and Nut (1) and
tighten.
(Parts are shown in Figure 6.)
Figure 7 shows a base with 4 feet installed. With 2
people set the base on its feet. Next position the
base where you plan to complete assembly. A
pallet jack is useful for positioning the base. If
the stand will be assembled where it will be used
level the base and make sure it is resting solidly on
all 4 adjustment feet. If the stand will be used
against a wall it is best to assemble the stand
where there is working room around it and then
move it into position once assembly is complete.
In this case level the stand once it is in its final
position.

4Lifting the mill on to the Base
Prior to placing the mill on the base apply a
thin coat of oil or grease to the 4 machine
mounting pads to prevent rust and remove any
debris or burrs on the mounting pads. Next
carefully lift the mill onto the base. Tormach
recommends using the Lifting Bar (PN 31446)
with a crane or engine hoist, or place bars
through the machine base and use a forklift
(Figure 8). Please refer to www.tormach.com
for more information.
CAUTION! The mill and base are heavy.
Use care and proper procedures when
lifting the mill onto the base.

5Bolting the PCNC to the Base
Once the mill has been safely placed on the landing
pads of the base, attach the mill to the base with
the 4 mounting studs (#6 in Figure 9)(M12 x 130) ,
lock washers (#7), washers (#8) and nuts (#9)(M12).
Do not tighten any of the nuts completely until you
have started each of them, as it may be necessary
to reposition the mill slightly to achieve alignment.

After the mill is bolted to the base it is time to
attach the coolant trays. Position the trays near the
stand. (Figure 10). Test fit the coolant trays. The
left and right trays are different.
You need to seal the joints between the base and
the coolant trays with silicone caulk prior to
installing the coolant trays. It is best to caulk and
install one coolant tray at a time to ensure the caulk
does not begin to set up. Using silicone caulk make
a double bead all around one side of the stand as
shown in Figure 11.
It is very helpful to have another person help
position the tray and to hold it in place (Figure 12).
Prior to attaching the tray to the base with the
mounting bolts apply a small amount of silicone
caulk to each bolt hole as shown in Figure 13.

We strongly recommend discarding the plastic
washers that come with the tray mounting bolts.
It is best to seal the bolts with silicone caulk only.
Loosely screw 2 bolts in place to hold the tray
while you locate and start the remaining bolts.
Then tighten all bolts.
Next place a double bead of caulk at the joint
between the coolant trays and around the
remaining side of the base as shown in Figure 14.
Repeat the above mounting procedure for the
remaining coolant tray. Apply caulk at each bolt
hole, discard the plastic washers, and loosely bolt
the 2 tray sections together. Start all bolts
before tightening them. Allow the silicone caulk
to cure before removing the excess or using
coolant.
After the coolant trays are installed attach the
stainless steel wear guard across the front of the
chip tray as shown in Figure 15. Parts required are
shown in Figure 16: (14) Stainless Guard Strip; (15)
Stainless Screw (M6×10); (16) Nut (M6); and (17)
Flat Washer.
The final step in the coolant tray installation is to
install the back splash guards. Locate the back
splash guards and test fit them to the coolant
trays as shown in Figure 17.

The guard with the back access panel goes behind the
machine control panel. Caulking is optional for the splash
guard bolts. Caulking is not recommended for the joint
between the splash guards and the coolant tray.

7Installing the Coolant System
Insert the flexible metal coolant tube (1)
through the hole in the base as shown in Figure
18.Next connect the coolant tube end you
inserted through the base to the coolant pump
mounted on the top of the coolant tank (3) as
shown in Figure 19 . Use Teflon tape on the
connection.
NOTE: The pump is shipped with
wiring configured for 110 VAC.
The coolant pump is dual voltage
(110VAC/220VAC ). If the pump is to be used
with 220 VAC unscrew the pump electrical cover
plate and re-wire the pump per the diagram on
the inside of the lid.
Next, referring to Figure 20 connect the Plastic
Coolant Tube(6) to the Connecting Tube (4);
Place the Connecting Tube (4) into the Support
(5); Fasten the Nut on the Flexible Tube (1) to
the the Connecting Tube (4); Use the Cap
Screws (8) to fix the Support (5) to the Mill Head
(9). Finally tighten the Screw (7)to fix the
Connecting Tube (4). The completed assembly is
shown in Figure 21.

8Attaching the Splash Guard
The table mounted splash guard is shown installed
on the mill table in Figure 22. First remove the
cap screws at the corners of the top of the mill
table.
Referring to Figure 23 Insert the Left Side Plate(1)
and Right Side Plate (3) inside the Connecting
Plate (2) and then fasten with the Screws (4) (M5 x
12).
Place the splash guard on Mill Table (6), and then,
fasten it at 4 places with the Screws (5) (M6 x 12)
as shown in Figure 24. Finally slide the clear
front view screen into the slots on the front of the
guard as shown in Figure 22.

9Attaching the Lubrication Pump
Beginning with Series 3 machines, the manual lubrication pump is located on the stand. Earlier models,
had this mounted directly to the mill, however, this exposed the pump to the coolant stream and chip
swarf which can, in some cases, pollute the lubrication oil in the pump.
PCNC 1100 stands come with pre drilled holes to mount tube clips and both the manual or optional
automatic oilers. Please see Figure 25. Please note, all parts listed below are included with the PCNC mill,
not the Deluxe Stand.

unfortunately do not have predrilled holes in the stand base. The owner will need to drill and tap these on
their own. The pump (5) should sit about 6 inches below the underside of the left coolant tray (1).]

10 Attaching the Machine Arm
The Machine Arm is a separately purchased
accessory that many machine owners find useful. It
can be mounted on either the PCNC control cabinet
for right hand mounting, or directly on the cast iron
column for left hand mounting as shown in Figure 26.
All PCNC mills come with mounting holes for both
locations.
Figure 27 shows a machine
arm configured for holding a
tool tray. The arm is
mounted to the mill column
using the 4 bolts, washers
and lock washers provided.
For mounting to the control
panel insert the provided
bolt and small washer
through the mounting
bracket and through the
hole in the cabinet. Use
the large fender washer,
small washer, lock washer
and nut on the inside of the
cabinet.
Figure 27 shows the
machine arm configured for
use with a computer
monitor and Figure 29
shows a machine with both
arms in the suggested
configuration.
