componentsofthemachine.

andothersafetyprotectivedevicesinplaceand
workingonthemachine.
•Keepclearofanydischargeopening.Keep
bystandersandpetsawayfromthemachine.
•Keepchildrenoutoftheoperatingarea.Never
allowchildrentooperatethemachine.
•Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthe
cuttingunits,disengagethedrives,engagethe
parkingbrake(ifprovided),shutofftheengine,
andremovethekeybeforeleavingtheoperator's
positionforanyreason.
Improperlyusingormaintainingthismachinecan
resultininjury.Toreducethepotentialforinjury,
complywiththesesafetyinstructionsandalways
payattentiontothesafety-alertsymbol,which
meansCaution,Warning,orDanger—personalsafety
instruction.Failuretocomplywiththeseinstructions

SpikerSafety
•Thespikerisonlyapartofacompletemachine
wheninstalledonatractionunit.Readthetraction
unitOperator’sManualcarefullyforcomplete
instructionsonthesafeuseofthemachine.
•Stopthemachine,removethekey,andwaitfor
allmovingpartstostopbeforeinspectingthe
attachmentafterstrikinganobjectorifthereis
anabnormalvibrationinthemachine.Makeall
necessaryrepairsbeforeresumingoperation.
•Keepallpartsingoodworkingconditionandall
hardwaretightened.Replaceallwornordamaged
decals.
•Useonlyaccessories,attachments,and
replacementpartsapprovedbyToro.
BladeSafety
Awornordamagedspikerbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofitcouldbethrowntowardyouorbystanders,
resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
•Inspectthespikerperiodicallyforwearordamage.
•Usecareandweargloveswhencheckingor
servicingthespiker.
•Onmachineswithmultiplecuttingunits,takecare
asrotating1spikercancauseotherspikersto
rotate.

suspensionarm.
2.Withthelatchesonthesuspension-armbar
opened(Figure3),pushthesuspensionarm
downsothatittsoverthebaracrossthetopof
thespikerunit(Figure4).

Operation
Training
Beforespikinggreens,ndaclearareatopractice
starting,stopping,raising,lowering,androllingwith
thespiker.Thistraininghelpsyougainexperience
andcondencewiththespikerbeforeusingitona
green.
OperatingTips
•Surveythegreentodetermineifthereareany
obstaclesthatwillbedamagedorwilldamage
thespikers,suchassprinklerheadsorother
protrudingobjects.
•Maintainastraightlinewhenspiking.Donotturn
themachinewhenthespikersarefullylowered
andcontactingtheground.
•Whenyoureachtheedgeofthegreen,raisethe
spikersbeforeturningorstoppingthemachine.
Youmustraisethespikerscompletelybefore
makingturns.

Maintenance
PreparingforMaintenance
Beforestartingonanymaintenanceprocedure,do
thefollowing:
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface.
2.Lowerthespikerunitsfullytothegroundsothat
thesuspensionhydraulicsarefullyextended.
3.Engagetheparkingbrake,shutofftheengine,
andremovethekey.
Lubrication
Serviceinterval:Every15hours.
Lubricatethe2greasettings(Figure7)oneach
spikerunitafterevery15hoursofoperationusing
aNo.2lithiumgrease.Forbestresults,usea
hand-operatedgreasegun.
