Overview
The latest version of the GreenSmart DFC requires a positive connection between the pilot hood and the pilot
assembly for proper operation. The included E-Clip provides this connection. If the appliance being serviced
does not have an E-Clip, install the included E-Clip as shown below when replacing the DFC.
E-Clip Installation
1 Access the firebox and remove the burner (see
installation/owner’s manual for details).
2 Remove the pilot hood and place it aside.
3 Remove and discard the pilot hood clip. Needle-nose
pliers work well for this.
4 Replace the pilot hood.
5 Install the “E” clip as shown to the right.

E-Clip Confirmation
NOTE: The pilot hood should not wiggle when in place.
Make sure the “E” clip is fully inserted. The middle
tab will rest against the pilot base (apex of hexagon)
as shown to the right.
If the clip is inserted and the hood is not fully secure,
use pliers to carefully compress the clip while it is in
place. This forces the clip into the slots, ensuring
proper contact with the pilot hood.
Install the Grounding Wire on the Following Units with Pilot Assemblies Attached by Screws:
•DVS Insert
•31 DVI Insert
•564 HO Fireplace
•Tree of Life Stove
•DVL Insert
•33 DVI Insert
•Berkshire Stove
The above units may be identified by the use of a gasket underneath the pilot assembly. If you have
one of these units, follow the directions below. All other units may disregard the steps below.
NOTE: If you have a newer version of these units, and the pilot is held in place with press-studs and
nuts, you may disregard the steps below.
Instructions:
Remove the stock screws on the pilot assembly (see illustration below). Secure the grounding wire
using the included 10-24 screws. The included screws have a larger thread designed to purchase the
metal with a larger contact area. You may need to use some torque to secure these screws.

Route the grounding wire to any of the four screws that secure the
gas control valve bracket to the valve tray. Remove the screw and
secure the wire (see illustration below). Make sure the wire is routed
away from the air shutter and in a location where it will not interfere
with burner installation.
