This sophisticated tool uses the very latest developments in technology to drastically speed up the time taken to
make distance estimations.
The VTUSD is used by realtors, surveyors, engineers and builders for a fast; easy estimation of sizes, areas and
volumes of space at home or on site. The VTUSD has many uses, but is particularly suitable for estimating areas for
carpets, wallpapering, etc.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
This tool is a technical instrument so it should be handled carefully.
1. Clean with a soft damp cloth.
Do not immerse in, or spray with water, liquids or abrasive cleaners.
2. The ultrasonic module has been sealed after calibration at the factory. Do not attempt to service or adjust.
3. This tool is temperature compensated. Small variations may occur with change in altitude and humidity. These
variations can be ignored for estimating purposes.
4. The sound waves from this unit may be affected by strong crosswinds, which could affect reading accuracy.
5. This estimator measures from the bottom end of the case (battery end).

IMPORTANT WARNING
The VTUSD is designed as a fast and convenient distance-estimating tool. While it is accurate to high tolerances, it
should not be used when exact, absolute measurements are critical.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE :
1. Place in position for distance to be measured (fig. 1). Press and release the 'ON' button and the display will show
all digits on, then distance reading. Once estimator display settles, the final reading is shown and 4 beeps will
sound. This indicates that your VTUSD has 'locked' the reading into memory. If in doubt, simply repeat to confirm
your measurement. (The VTUSD measures from its base to the target).
2. Your display will go blank 10 seconds after the reading or within 10 seconds if no reading is achieved. It is then in
the 'OFF' mode.
3. Your VTUSD will give you readings in : metres and centimetres, feet and tenths of a foot, which enables you to
easily multiply for area and volume calculations.
4. Press the 'MODE' key momentarily to alternate between metres and centimetres, feet and tenths of a foot, or feet
and inches.
5. Press the 'RECALL' key to recall last reading from memory. This function is active also when display is blank.
TIPS
If you see 'ERROR' on the display, your VTUSD is not receiving a properly reflected sonic signal, or you are aiming
at a range beyond its capabilities i.e. over 14.5 metres (47.5ft.) Corrective action : move closer to your target, or
adjust the angle of your instrument.
Caution : Sonic signals may not be reflected by certain sound absorbing materials such as curtains, upholstery and
carpeting. Irregular surfaces may also give a variance in readings.
If you see 'LO BAT' on your display, this indicates the battery is low.
Should this occur, remove the batteries and replace with three 3V lithium batteries (CR2032).
Your VTUSD is designed to operate from a minimum distance of 60cm (2 feet). If you attempt to measure under this
distance you will receive a false reading.
An object in the path of the VTUSD beam can give a false reading. Simply move the VTUSD above or to the side of
the obstruction.

Ordinarily it is not possible to measure through doors and windows, however, depending on how close your VTUSD
is to the opening, you may obtain satisfactory results by making repeated measurements at varying angles and
elevations until a correct estimate is achieved.
In fig. 2 the distance to the step ladder will be measured instead of the wall. The VTUSD requires a clear view within
a cone of ±7°.
Ensure that your body does not enter this ±7° cone as shown as in fig. 3.
When measuring long distances or narrow spaces the ±7° of ultrasonic pulses will touch the walls and/or ceiling
and/or floor. As shown in fig. 4 any projectors or recesses will return an ultrasonic echo and the VTUSD will indicate
the distance to the closest reflection ; which is the upper recess.

To overcome reading errors in long narrow or other confined spaces readings in each direction may be added
together to give the overall dimensions as shown in fig. 5 and 6.
SUM SEQUENTIAL
ADDITION OPERATION
This function is used to add sequential measurements together to give a final combined reading/measurement. For
example, if the length of the room to be measured exceeds the maximum capacity of this unit, i.e. 14.5 metres, set
the VTUSD at a fixed point in the room (see fig. 5 and 6) and take a reading in both directions using the 'SUM' key
pad to quickly add both readings giving the overall length of the room.
HOW TO USE THE CLR SUM KEY
1. Press CLR SUM to clear any previous sequential additions in memory.
2. Press ON
3. Make the first distance measurement (e.g. 1 metre)
4. Press SUM.
5. Press ON
6. Make the second distance measurement (e.g. 2 metres)
7. Press SUM.
8. The unit will have automatically combined the two distance measurements and will give a combined reading of
both (e.g. 1 metre + 2 metres = 3 metres)
AREA CALCULATIONS
This function is used to calculate areas very quickly.

HOW TO USE THE AREA KEY
1. Press ON
2. Measure the length of the room
3. Press L
4. Position unit and press ON
5. Measure the width of the room
6. Press W
7. Press AREA
8. The unit will have automatically calculated the area of the room based on your length and width readings.
VOLUME CALCULATIONS
This function is used to calculate volume very quickly.
HOW TO USE THE VOL KEY
1. Press ON
2. Measure the length of the room
3. Press L
4. Position unit and press ON
5. Measure the width of the room
6. Press W
7. Position unit and press ON
8. Measure the height of the room
9. Press H
10.Press VOL
11.The unit will have automatically calculated the volume of the room based on your length, width and height
readings.

Dit gesofisticeerd toestel gebruikt de laatste technologische ontwikkelingen om zo de snelheid van
afstandsschattingen drastisch op te voeren.
De VTUSD wordt gebruikt door landmeters, ingenieurs en aannemers voor het snelle schatten van afstanden,
oppervlakten en volumes van een plaats, in een huis of op een site. De VTUSD heeft vele toepassingen, maar is
bijvoorbeeld zeer geschikt om een schatting te maken voor een tapijt, of wanneer u de muur met papier wel
behangen, enz.
ONDERHOUD
Dit toestel is een technisch instrument, dat voorzichtig behandeld moet worden.
1. Reinig dit toestel met een vochtige doek.
Was dit toestel niet af, noch met water, vloeistoffen of bijtende reinigingsmiddelen.
2. De ultrasone module werd na kalibratie in de fabriek verzegeld. Probeer deze niet af te regelen.
3. Dit toestel is gecompenseerd tegen temperatuursveranderingen. Bij veranderingen van hoogte en vochtigheid
kunnen er zich echter kleine veranderingen voordoen, die te verwaarlozen zijn voor de schatting.
4. De geluidsgolven afkomstig van dit toestel kunnen aangetast worden door sterke wind, waardoor de
nauwkeurigheid kan verminderen.
5. Deze schatter meet vanaf het bodemeinde (aan het batterijcompartiment).

BELANGRIJKE OPMERKING
De VTUSD werd ontworpen als een snel en gemakkelijk schattingsinstrument. Hoewel hij een hoge nauwkeurigheid
heeft, kan hij niet voor exacte metingen gebruikt worden, absolute metingen zijn kritisch.

GEBRUIKSAANWIJZINGEN :
1. Plaats de VTUSD op de goede plaats om afstanden te meten (fig. 1 p. 2). Druk op de 'ON'-knop en laat deze
terug los. Het scherm toont alle karakters en daarna de afstand. Eenmaal de schatter zich ingesteld heeft, wordt
de uiteindelijke uitlezing weergegeven en 4 biep geluidssignalen weerklinken. Dit betekent dan de VTUSD de
gemeten waarde in zijn geheugen geplaatst heeft. Indien er twijfel zou zijn, herhaalt u eenvoudigweg de meting.
(De VTUSD meet vanaf zijn bodem tot het doel).
2. De uitlezing wordt blank 10 seconden na de uitlezing, of binnen de 10 seconden indien er geen meting gebeurd
is. Hij staat terug in 'OFF' modus.
3. Uw VTUSD zal de schatting weergeven in : meter en centimeter, voet of tienden van een voet, wat u toelaat om
eenvoudig oppervlakte- en volume berekeningen te maken.
4. Druk de 'MODE' toets kort in om te wisselen tussen meter en centimeter, voet, tienden van een voet en inches.
5. Druk op de 'RECALL' toets om laatste waarde uit het geheugen op het scherm te tonen. Deze functie is actief
zelfs indien het toestel uit staat.
TIPS
Indien 'ERROR' op het scherm verschijnt, betekent dit dat de VTUSD geen correct gereflecteerd supersonisch
signaal ontvangt, of dat u een afstand wilt meten die buiten het bereik van het toestel zit, d.w.z. meer dan 14.5
meter. Om dit te verhelpen gaat u bij het doel staan of verandert u de hoek van het instrument.
Opgelet : Supersonische signalen kunnen geabsorbeerd worden door bepaalde materialen zoals gordijnen,
meubels en tapijten. Ook onregelmatige oppervlakken kunnen een afwijking geven bij het meten.
Indien 'LO BAT' op het display verschijnt, betekent dit dat de batterij leeg is.
Indien dit voorkomt, haalt u de lege batterijen uit het toestel en vervangt u ze door drie 3V lithium batterijen
(CR2032).
Uw VTUSD werd ontworpen om te werken met een minimum afstand van 60cm (2 voet). Indien u probeer kleinere
afstanden te meten, zult u een slechte meting bekomen.
Een object dat zich in de weg van de VTUSD straal bevindt, zal een slechte meting veroorzaken. Verplaats de
VTUSD naar boven, of naast het obstakel.
Normaal is het niet mogelijk om door deuren en vensters te meten. Afhankelijk van hoe dicht uw VTUSD bij de
opening staat, kunt u bevredigende resultaten bekomen, door herhaaldelijke metingen uit te voeren bij verschillende
stralen en hoogtes en dit totdat een correcte schatting bekomen is.
In fig. 2 op p. 3 zal de afstand tot de ladder gemeten worden in plaats van de afstand tot de muur. De VTUSD
vereist een goed zicht binnen een hoek van ±7°.
Controleer of uw lichaam zich niet in de hoek van ±7° bevindt zoals weergegeven in fig. 3 op p. 3.
Wanneer u lange afstanden of smalle plaatsen meet, zullen de ±7° van de ultrasone pulsen de muren en/of het
plafond raken. Zoals getoond in fig. 4 op p. 3 zullen projectors of voorwerpen een ultrasone echo terugsturen en de
VTUSD zal zo de afstand meten tot het dichtste reflectie punt ; die in het geval van fig. 4 het bovenste voorwerp is.

Om meetfouten te vermijden in lange smalle plaatsen, kunt u verschillende metingen uitvoeren met verschillende
hoeken. Zie fig. 5 en 6 op p. 4.
SEQUENTIËLE SOM-FUNCTIE
Deze functie word gebruikt om sequentiële metingen op te tellen, die samen een gecombineerde uitlezing/meting
vormen. Bijvoorbeeld, indien de lengte van de kamer buiten het bereik van de meter valt, het bereik is 14.5 meter.
Plaats de VTUSD op een vast punt in de kamer (zie fig. 5 en 6) en voer metingen uit in beide richtingen. Gebruik de
'SUM' toets om snel de beide metingen op te tellen en zo de totale lengte van kamer te kennen.
HOE DE CLR SUM-TOETS GEBRUIKEN
1. Druk op de CLR SUM-toets om alle vorige somberekeningen uit het geheugen te wissen.
2. Druk op ON
3. Maak de eerste afstandsmeting (bv. 1 meter)
4. Druk op de SUM-toets.
5. Druk op ON
6. Maak de tweede afstandsmeting (bv. 2 meter)
7. Druk op de SUM-toets.
8. Het toestel zal automatisch de twee afstandsmetingen combineren en zal de gecombineerde uitlezing op het
scherm weergeven (dit is 1 meter + 2 meter = 3 meter)
OPPERVLAKTEBEREKENINGEN
Deze functie dient om zeer snel oppervlakten te berekenen.
HOE DE OPPERVLAKTE (AREA) TOETS GEBRUIKEN
1. Druk op ON
2. Meet de lengte van de kamer
3. Druk op de L-toets
4. Positioneer de VTUSD en druk op ON
5. Meet de breedte van de kamer
6. Druk op de W-toets
7. Druk op de AREA-toets
8. Het toestel zal automatisch de oppervlakte van de kamer berekenen gebaseerd op de lengte en de breedte die
gemeten werden.
VOLUMEBEREKENINGEN
Deze functie dient om zeer snel het volume van een kamer te berekenen
HOE DE VOLUME (VOL) TOETS GEBRUIKEN
1. Druk op ON
2. Meet de lengte van de kamer
3. Druk op de L-toets
4. Positioneer de VTUSD en druk op ON
5. Meet de breedte van de kamer
6. Druk op de W-toets
7. Positioneer de VTUSD en druk op ON
8. Meet de hoogte van de kamer
