TheFederalCleanAirAct,Section203(a)(3),statesthefollowingconcerningthe
removalofairpollutioncontroldevicesormodicationofacertiedenginetoa
non-certiedconguration:
CAA,Section(a)(3)(A)prohibitsanypersonfromremovingorrenderinginoperative
anyemissioncontroldeviceorelementofdesigninstalledonorinamotorvehicle
ormotorvehicleengineincompliancewithfederalregulationsundertheCleanAir
Actpriortothesaleanddeliveryofthevehicletotheultimatepurchaser.Thestatute
alsoprohibitsanypersonfromknowinglyremovingorrenderinginoperativeany
emissioncontroldeviceorelementofdesignaftersaleanddeliveryofavehicleor
enginetotheultimatepurchaser.Anypersonwhoviolatestheseprovisionseither
byremovingorrenderinginoperativeemissionscontroldevicespriortothesaleor
deliveryofanengineorvehicletoanultimatepurchaser,orbyknowinglyremoving
orrendinginoperativesuchdevicesafterthesaleanddeliveryofanengineorvehicle
toanultimatepurchaser,canbesubjecttopenaltiesofupto$3,750perincident.
Anydealerormanufacturerwhoviolatestheseprovisionscanbesubjecttopenalties
ofupto$37,500perincident.

ThesameconditionsthatapplyintheUSAapplytoCanada,withoneexception.
Afterthevehicleissoldtoaretailcustomer,thatis,theenduser,thejurisdiction
controllingtheemissioncontroldevicesbecomestheprovinceinwhichthevehicleis
licensed.Nochangesshouldbemadethatrenderanyorallofthedevicesinoperative.
Shouldtheowner/operatorwishtomakeanychangestotheemissioncontroldevices,
checkwiththeprovincialauthoritybeforemakinganysuchchanges.
Mexico
ThesameconditionsthatapplyintheUSAapplytoMexico.RefertotheMexican
FederalLawforEmissionControlwhichadherestoEPAregulations.Nochanges
shouldbemadethatrenderanyoralloftheemissionscontroldevicesinoperative.
Shouldtheowner/operatorwishtomakeanychangestotheemissioncontroldevices,
checkwiththestateauthoritybeforemakinganysuchchanges.
FederalEmissionRequirements

Themanufacturershallfurnishwitheachnewmotorvehicleormotorvehicleengine
suchwritteninstructionsforthemaintenanceanduseofthevehicleorengineby
theultimatepurchaserasmaybereasonableandnecessarytoassuretheproper
functioningofemissioncontroldevicesandsystems.

TheFederalCleanAirActprohibitstheremovalorrenderinginoperativeofany
deviceorelementofdesigninstalledonorinamotorvehicleormotorvehicleengine
incompliancewithFederalEmissionRegulationsby:
1Anypersonpriortoitssaleanddeliverytotheultimatepurchaser,or
2Anymanufacturerordistributorafteritssaleanddeliverytotheultimatepurchaser,
or
3Anypersonengagedinthebusinessofrepairing,servicing,selling,leasing,or
tradingmotorvehiclesormotorvehicleenginesfollowingitssaleanddelivery
totheultimatepurchaser,or

newVOLVOdieselengineinanewVOLVOtrucktocomplywithallUnitedStates
FederalandCanadianemissionsregulationsapplicableatthetimeofmanufactureof
theengine,andtobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipundernormaluse
andserviceupto60months,or100,000miles,whicheveroccursrst,providedall
VOLVOTrucksNorthAmerica,maintenancerequirementsarefollowedasdescribed
inthismanual.Allwarrantyperiodsarecalculatedfromthedate-in-serviceofthe
newvehicle.Therepairorreplacementofdefectivepartswillbemadewithout

ThissectioncoverstherequirementoftheUnitedStatesCleanAirActwhichstates:
“Themanufacturershallfurnishwitheachnewmotorvehicleormotorvehicleengine
suchwritteninstructionsforthemaintenanceanduseofthevehicleorengineby
theultimatepurchaserasmaybereasonableandnecessarytoassuretheproper
functioningofemissioncontroldevicesandsystems.”Thissectionalsocovers
therequirementsoftheemissionsregulationspromulgatedundertheCanadian
EnvironmentalProtectionAct,1999.
Manufacturer’sWarrantyCoverage
VOLVOTrucksNorthAmericawarrantstheEmissionControlSystemsoneachnew
VOLVOdieselengineinanewVOLVOTrucktocomplywithallUnitedStates
FederalandCanadianemissionsregulationsapplicableatthetimeofmanufactureof
theengine,andtobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipundernormaluse
andserviceupto60months,or160934km(100,000miles),whicheveroccursrst,
providedthatallmaintenancerequirementsarefollowedasdescribedinthismanual.
Allwarrantyperiodsarecalculatedfromthedate-in-serviceofthenewvehicle.The
repairorreplacementofdefectivepartswillbemadewithoutchargeforthecostof
partsandifrepairsaremadeatanauthorizedVOLVOdealership,therewillbeno
chargeforlabor.
VOLVO’sobligationunderthiswarrantyislimitedtotherepairorreplacement,at
VOLVO’soption,ofanypart(s)oftheEmissionControlSystemsofsuchengine
and/orvehiclefoundtobedefectiveuponexaminationbyVOLVOandprovided
thatsuchpart(s)werereturnedtoVOLVOoritsnearestauthorizedDealerwithina
reasonableperiodoftime.

CaliforniaEmissionControlWarrantyStatement
YourWarrantyRightsandObligations
TheCaliforniaAirResourcesBoardandVOLVOTrucksNorthAmericaarepleased
toExplaintheemissioncontrolsystemwarrantyonyour2013/2014vehicle.In
California,newmotorvehicleenginesmustbedesigned,builtandequippedtomeet
theState’sstringentanti-smogstandards.VOL VOmustwarranttheemissioncontrol
systemonyourenginefortheperiodoftimelistedbelowprovidedtherehasbeen
noabuse,neglect,orimpropermaintenanceofyourengine.Youremissioncontrol
systemmayincludepartssuchasthefuel-injectionsystem,turbochargerassembly,
electroniccontrolmoduleandotheremission-relatedassemblies.
Ifanemission-relatedpartofyourengineisdefective,thepartwillberepairedor

VOLVOwarrantstheEmissionControlSystemsoneachnewVOLVOdieselengine
inanewVOLVOtrucktocomplywithallStateofCaliforniaemissionsregulations
applicableatthetimeofmanufactureoftheengine,andtobefreefromdefectsin
materialandworkmanshipundernormaluseandserviceupto60monthsor100,000
miles,whicheveroccursrst,providedallVOLVOmaintenancerequirementsare
followedasdescribedinthismanual.Allwarrantyperiodsarecalculatedfromthe
date-in-serviceofthenewvehicle.Therepairorreplacementofdefectivepartswill
bemadewithoutchargeforthecostofpartsand,ifrepairsaremadeatanauthorized
VOLVOdealership,therewillbenochargeforlabor.
VOLVO’sobligationunderthiswarrantyislimitedtotherepairorreplacement,at
VOLVO’soption,ofanypart(s)ofEmissionControlSystemsofsuchengineand/or
vehiclefoundtobedefectiveuponexaminationbyVOLVOandprovidedthatsuch
part(s)werereturnedtoVOLVOoritsnearestauthorizedDealerwithinareasonable
periodoftime.
Owner’sWarrantyResponsibilities
Asthemotorvehicleengineowner,youareresponsiblefortheperformanceofthe
requiredmaintenancelistedinthismanual.VOLVOrecommendsthatyouretainall
receiptscoveringmaintenanceofyourvehicle,butVOLVOcannotdenywarranty
solelyforthelackofreceiptsorforyourfailuretoensuretheperformanceofall
scheduledmaintenancelistedinothermanualswhichweresuppliedwithyourvehicle.
YouareresponsibleforpresentingyourmotorvehicleenginetoaVOL VOdealeras
soonasaproblemexists.Thewarrantyrepairsshouldbecompletedinareasonable
amountoftime,nottoexceed30days.Asthemotorvehicleengineowner,youshould
alsobeawarethatVOLVOmaydenyyouwarrantycoverageifyourvehicleorapart
hasfailedduetoabuse,neglect,impropermaintenance,orunapprovedmodications.

defectsinworkmanshiponly.Normalmaintenance,suchascleaningashfromthelter
atregularmaintenanceintervalsandcleaningtheaftertreatmentfuelinjectoronDiesel
oxidationcatalyst(DOC)DPFsystems,isnotcoveredbytheemissionwarranty.
Note:Inresponsetocustomerrequests,VOLVOTrucksNorthAmericamaybuild
vehicleswithenginessuppliedbyothermanufacturers.Inthesecases,eachengine
manufacturerthroughitsserviceorganization,isresponsibleforemissioncontrol
systemswarrantyonallpartsoftheengineassembly,asfurnished.
CAUTION
Anyunauthorizedadjustmentstothe
emissioncontrolcomponentscancause
severedamagetotheengine.
1.RepairsbyVOLVODealers,Sub-DealersandServiceDealersRepairscovered
bytheEmissionControlSystemsWarrantywillbeperformedbyanyauthorized
VOLVOrepairfacilitywithnochargeforpartsandlabor(includingdiagnosis),using
VOLVOpartsforanypartoftheemissioncontrolsystemscoveredbythiswarranty
andfounddefective.
2.InanEmergencyInanemergency,whereanauthorizedVOLVOfacilityisnot
available,repairsmaybeperformedatanyavailableserviceestablishment,orbythe
owner,usinganyreplacementpart,withinthelimitationsofparagraphs3and4inthis
section.Anemergencyconditionexistsunderthissectionif,after30days,repairs
havenotbeencompletedorpartsarenotyetavailable.VOLVOwillreimbursethe
ownerforsuchrepairsthatarecoveredunderthiswarranty,includingdiagnosis,not
toexceedVOLVO’ssuggestedretailpriceforpartsreplacedandlaborchargesbased
onVOLVO’srecommendedtimeallowanceandgeographicallyappropriatehourly
laborrate.ReplacedpartsandpaidinvoicesmustbepresentedataVOLVOfacilityas
aconditionofreimbursementforemergencyrepairsperformedelsewhere.
3.RepairsbyNon-VOLVOFacilitiesOwnersmayelecttohavemaintenance,
replacement,orrepairofemissioncontrolsystemsperformedbyanyrepairfacility,
andmayelecttousepartsotherthanVOLVOpartswithoutinvalidatingthewarranty
onothercomponents,butthecostofsuchserviceorpartswillnotbecoveredby
VOLVOunderitswarranty.
CAUTION
Intheeventthatdamageresultsfromunauthorizedadjustmentstoanyemission
controlsystemcomponents,asevidencedbysettingsotherthanasspecied,
orbrokenfastenerseals,thecostofrepairingsuchdamageWILLNOTBE
COVEREDunderwarranty

4.UseofNon-VOLVOPartsUseofreplacementpartswhicharenottheequivalent
ofVOLVOpartsmayimpairtheeffectivenessofemissioncontrolsystems.Ifother
thanVOLVOpartsareused,theownershouldobtainassurancesthatsuchpartsare
warrantedbytheirmanufacturertobetheequivalentofVOLVOpartsinperformance
anddurability.VOLVOassumesnoliabilityunderthiswarrantywithrespectto
partsotherthanVOLVOparts;however,theuseofnon-VOLVOpartsdoesnot
invalidatethewarrantyonothercomponentsunlessnon-VOLVOpartscausedamage
towarrantedparts.
5.MaintenanceandMaintenanceRecordsThevehicleownerisresponsibleforthe
performanceofallrequiredmaintenancespeciedinthismanual.VOLVOwillnot
denyawarrantyclaimsolelybecausethereisnorecordofmaintenance;however,
VOLVOmaydenyawarrantyclaimiffailuretoperformrequiredmaintenanceresults
inthefailureofawarrantedpart.Receiptsorotherrecordscoveringtheperformance
ofscheduledmaintenanceshouldberetainedtoanswerquestionsthatmayarise
concerningmaintenance.Maintenancerecordsshouldbetransferredtosubsequent
ownersifthevehicleissold.
6.ItemsNotCoveredbytheEmissionControlSystemsWarranty
•Malfunctionscausedbymisuse,improperadjustments,modication,alteration,
tampering,disconnection,improperorinadequatemaintenanceanduseof
improperdieselfuel.
•Damageresultingfromaccident,actsofnatureorothereventsbeyondthecontrol
ofVOLVOTrucksNorthAmerica
•Inconvenience,lossofuseofthevehicle,commerciallossofanykindincluding,
butnotlimitedto,consequentialorincidentaldamages.
•Anyvehicleinwhichtheodometerhasbeenalteredordamagedsothatmileage
cannotbereadilydetermined.
7.CustomerAssistanceVOLVOwishestoassurethattheEmissionControlSystems
Warrantyisproperlyadministered.Intheeventthatownersdonotreceivethe
warrantyservicetowhichtheybelievetheyareentitledundertheFederal,Canadian,
orCaliforniaEmissionControlSystemsWarranty,theyshouldcontactthenearest
VOLVORegionalOfceforassistance.Theaddressandtelephonenumberforeach
