TheFederalCleanAirAct,Section203(a)(3),statesthefollowingconcerningthe
removalofairpollutioncontroldevicesormodicationofacertiedenginetoa
non-certiedconguration:
CAA,Section(a)(3)(A)prohibitsanypersontoremoveorrenderinoperativeany
(emissioncontrol)deviceorelementofdesigninstalledonorinamotorvehicleor
motorvehicleengineincompliancewithregulationsunderthispartpriortoitssale
anddeliverytotheultimatepurchaser,andprohibitsanypersonfromknowingly
removingorrenderinginoperativeanysuchdeviceorelementofdesignafter
suchsaleanddeliverytotheultimatepurchaser.”Specically,pleasenotethatno
personmaymakesuchchangespriortothesaleanddeliveryofthevehicletothe
ultimatepurchaser,and,inaddition,nomanufacturer,dealer,orindividualmaytake

standardsbasedupontheuseoftestfuelswithspecicationsestablishedbythese
regulatoryagencies.Alternativefuels,includingbiodiesel,thatarenotsubstantially
similartotherequiredtestfuelsmayadverselyaffectengineemissionscompliance
andmayimpacttheperformanceofcertainemissionsaftertreatmentcomponents.As
aresult,V olvodoesnotwarranttheenginewillconformtoapplicableFederalor
Californiaemissionslimitswhenoperatedon,orhavingoperatedon,biodieselor
otheralternativefuelsthatarenotsubstantiallysimilartospeciedtestfuelsusedfor
certication.
Theuseofbiodieseluptoamaximumof20%(B20)inandofitself,willnotaffect
themanufacturer’smechanicalwarrantyastoengineoremissionssystemrelated
componentsexceptaslimitedbelowwithrespecttoaftertreatmentcomponents,
providedthebiofuelusedintheblendconformstoASTMD6751,andB1toB5
blendsconformtoASTMD975,andB6toB20blendsconformtoASTMD7467.
Failuresofcertainemissionsaftertreatmentcomponents,specicallySCR,DPFand
NOxsensorswillnotbewarrantedifthefailurecanbeattributedtooperationon
biodieselblendsfrom6to20%(B6toB20)evenifthebiofuelusedintheblendB6to
B20conformstoASTMD7467oranyrelatedstandard.
CAUTION
Diesel-poweredenginesforheavy-dutytrucksbuiltonorafterJanuary1,2010are
designedtooperateonlywithUltraLowSulfurDiesel(ULSD)fuel.Improper
fuelusewillreducetheefciencyanddurabilityofengines,permanentlydamage
advancedemissionscontrolsystems,reducefueleconomyandpossiblypreventthe
vehiclesfromrunningatall.Manufacturerwarrantieswillbevoidedbyimproper
fueluse.Additionally,burningLowSulfurDieselfuel(insteadofULSDfuel)in
2007andlatermodelyeardiesel-poweredcars,trucksandbusesisillegaland
punishablewithcivilpenalties.
CAUTION
UltraLowSulfurDiesel(ULSD)fuelwithamaximumsulfurcontentof15
ppmmustbeusedinordertomeetEuro4engineemissionrequirements.Using
otherwiseapproveddieselfuelswithamaximumsulfurcontentgreaterthan500
ppmmayshortenenginelifeandvoidtheenginewarranty.

Airisalwayspresentinsidethefueltanks,enteringmainlythroughthetank
ventilation.Withtheairbeingheatedandcooled,condensationisformedandwater
ismixedinthefuel.Toavoidcondensationwhenthevehicleisparkedforlonger
periods,llthetanksupto95%ofcapacity.Donotllmorethanthat,asthefuel
needstohaveroomforexpansionduringtheheatoftheday.

Maintenance.
VN:AnindicatorwillappearintheDIDscreenwhenthereisapproximately3.875
liters(0.9gallons)remaininginthereservoir.

.ThislogshouldbeusedtodocumentallNoiseControlSystemrelatedmaintenance,
whetherthemaintenanceresultsfromaspecicnoisecontrolsysteminspection,ora
deciencyidentiedduringanothergeneralmaintenanceevent.

Federallawprohibitsthefollowingactsorthecausingthereof:
(1)Theremovalorrenderinginoperativebyanyperson,otherthanforpurposesof
maintenance,repair,orreplacement,ofanydeviceorelementofdesignincorporated
intoanynewvehicleforthepurposeofnoisecontrolpriortoitssaleordeliverytothe
ultimatepurchaserorwhileitisinuse;
or
(2)theuseofthevehicleaftersuchdeviceorelementofdesignhasbeenremoved
orrenderedinoperativebyanyperson.
Amongtheactsthatconstitutetamperingaretheactslistedbelow:
•Removal,orrenderinginoperative,ofanyexhaustcomponents,includingmufers,
heavyordouble-wallexhausttubing,exibletubingorexhaustpipeclamping.
•Removal,orrenderinginoperative,ofthetemperature-modulatedcoolingfan
system.
•Removalofthecoolingfanshroud.
•Removal,orrenderinginoperative,oftheaircleanerorairintakein-linesilencer.
•Removalofthesounddeadeningmaterialfromthehoodorcabtunnel.
•Removal,orrenderinginoperative,oftheenginespeedgovernorsoastoallow
enginespeedtoexceedthemanufacturer’sspecications.

Ensuresoundshieldingandinsulatingdevicesareintact.Inspectcomponentsfor
damage.Primarysystemcomponentsrequiringnoiserelatedinspectionincludethe
hood,enginecompartmentinsulatingmaterials(includinghoodinsulation,bulkhead
insulation,doghouseinsulation,etc.)splashshields,cabskirts,fendershields,and
bodypanels.Inspectallrelatedfasteners,brackets,andclampsfordamageand
tightness.
RegulatoryCompliance
ActsthatconstitutetamperingwiththeNoiseShieldingandInsulationDevices:
Removingorrenderinginoperativetheengineand/ortransmissionnoisedeadening
panels,shieldsorinsulatingmaterials.

clutch,fanshroud,fanring,andrecirculationshields.Checkfanblades,fanring,fan
shroud,belttensionerandrecirculationshieldsforanydamage.V erifythatfanblades
clearthefanring.Inspectallrelatedfasteners,brackets,andclampsfordamageand
tightness.Conrmoperationoftemperaturemodulatedfanclutch.
