Carefullyreviewand familiarizeyourselfwith thefollowingimportantsafetyinformation
abouttheVisionAire™ 2and VisionAire™ 3 Oxygen Concentrator.
“NoSmoking–OxygeninUse” signsmustbe prominentlydisplayed inthe
home,orwhereoxygen isinuse. Patientsandtheir caregiversmust be
informedabout the dangersof smokinginthepresence of,orwhileusing,
medicaloxygen.
Thisdevice supplies high-concentrationoxygen that promotes rapidburning.
Donot allowsmoking oropenflames withinthesameroomof(1)this
device, or(2)anyoxygen-carrying accessory.Failuretoobservethis
warningcan result inseverefire,propertydamage and / or cause physical
injuryor death.
Donot useyouroxygenconcentratorinthepresence offlammable
gases.Thiscan result inrapidburning causingpropertydamage,bodily
injuries or death.
Donot leaveanasalcannulaon clothing,bed coveringsorchaircushions. If
the unit isturnedon butnot inuse,theoxygen will makethe material
flammable. Setthe I/0power switch tothe0(Off) position when the Oxygen
Concentratorisnotinuse.
Use no oil,grease, or petroleum-basedorotherflammableproductswiththe
oxygen-carryingaccessories ortheOxygen Concentrator.Onlywater based,
oxygen compatiblelotionsorsalves shouldbe used.Oxygen accelerates the
combustion offlammablesubstances.
Thisunit isnottobe usedfor life-support.Geriatric, pediatric,oranyother
patient unabletocommunicatediscomfortwhileusingthisdevice mayrequire
additionalmonitoring. Patientswithhearingand/or sightimpairmentsmay
need assistancewithmonitoring thealarms.
If you feeldiscomfortor areexperiencing amedicalemergency, seekmedical
assistance immediately.

Electricalshock hazard.Turn Off theunit and disconnectthepower cord
fromthe electricoutletbeforeyou clean theunittoprevent accidentalelectrical
shockandburnhazard. OnlyyourEquipmentProvideroraqualified
service technicianshouldremovethecoversorservice theunit.
Careshouldbetaken toprevent theOxygen Concentrator from gettingwet or
allowingfluids toentertheunit. Thiscancausetheunittomalfunction or shut
down, and cause anincreased riskfor electricalshock orburns.
Donot use liquiddirectlyon the unit.Alistof undesirablechemicalagents
includes but isnotlimitedtothefollowing: alcoholand alcohol-based products,
concentrated chlorine-based products(ethylene chloride), andoil-based
products(Pine-Sol®, Lestoil®). Theseare NOT tobe usedtoclean the plastic
housingonthe Oxygen Concentrator, astheycandamagetheunit’splastic.
Clean the cabinet, controlpanel, and power cordonlywithamildhousehold
cleaner applied withadampcloth(notwet) orsponge, andthenwipe all
surfacesdry. Donot allowanyliquidtogetinsidethedevice.
TheOxygen Concentrator shouldnotbe usedadjacenttoorstackedwith
otherequipment. If adjacent or stackeduse isunavoidable, thedevice should
be observed toverifynormaloperation.
Nomodification of thisequipment ispermitted.
Use of cables andadaptersotherthanthose specified, withtheexception of
cables and adapterssoldbythe manufacturerof the medicalelectrical
equipment asreplacement partsfor internalcomponents,mayresult in
increased emissions of decreased immunityoftheOxygen Concentrator.
Use onlyelectricalvoltage as specified onthespecification labelaffixed tothe
device.
Donot use extension cords withthisunit orconnecttoo manyplugs intothe
sameelectricaloutlet. Theuse of extension cordscouldadverselyaffectthe
performanceof the device.Toomanyplugsintoone outletcanresult inan
overload totheelectrical panelcausing thebreaker/fuse toactivateor fireif
the breakeror fuse failstooperate.

certaintoplacetheunit on aflatsurface andmakesureall sides areat least 1
foot(30cm) awayfrom awall or otherobstruction.Donotplace the unit ina
confined area.Choose adustand smokefree-location awayfrom direct
sunlight. Donotoperatethe unit outdoorsunless the unit isplugged intoa
GroundFault CircuitInterrupter(GFCI)protected outlet.
Donot operatethisunit inarestrictedorconfinedspace whereventilation can
be limited. Thiscancausethedevice tooverheat and affectperformance.
Donot alloweitherthe air intakeortheairoutletventstobeblocked.DO NOT
drop or insert anyobjectintoanyopeningson thedevice.Thiscancausethe
Oxygen Concentratortooverheat and impair performance.

TheManufacturerrecommends analternatesource of supplementaloxygen in
the event of apower outage, alarmcondition,or mechanical failure. Consult
your physician or EquipmentProviderforthetype of reservesystemrequired.
Itisveryimportanttoselectonlytheprescribedlevel of oxygen. Donot
changetheflowselectionunless you havebeen directed todosobya
licensed clinician.
TheOxygen Concentratormaybe usedduringsleep underthe
recommendation of alicensed clinician.
Operating orstoringthe Oxygen Concentrator outside of itsnormaloperating
temperaturerangecan impairthe performance ofthe unit. Refertothe
specification section ofthismanual forstorageand operating temperature
limits.
Inthe event ofan alarmor you observethe Oxygen Concentrator isnot
working properly; consult thetroubleshootingsection of thismanual. If you
cannotresolvethe problem,consult your Equipment Provider.
If theaudioalarm isweakordoes notsound at all, consult your Equipment
Provider immediately.
For unitsequipped withthe oxygen monitor option-Contact your Equipment
Provider immediatelyifthe amberOXYGENMONITORlightremains onfor
morethan15 minutes and/ortheaudioalarm activates.
If thehumidifierbottletubingisnotproperlyconnected tothe humidifierbottle
fittingortotheoxygen outlet,an oxygen leakcanoccur.
Cannulamustbe non-kinking,which can be used foratotallengthof
25 ft.(7.6m)max.
Ensurethe cannulaisfullyinserted and secure. You shouldhearor feel
oxygen flowtotheprongs of thenasalcannula.Ifoxygen doesnotseemto
flow,firstverifythat the flowmeter ball isregisteringaflow.Then, placethetip
ofthe cannulaintoaglassof water;ifbubblescomeout ofthe cannula,
oxygen isflowing.Ifbubbles do notappear,refertothetroubleshootingsection
ofthismanual.
Alwaysfollowthe cannulamanufacturer’sinstructions forproper use.Replace
the disposablecannulaasrecommended bythecannulamanufactureroryour
Equipment Provider. Additionalsupplies areavailablefromyour Equipment
Provider.

Theuse ofsomeoxygen administration accessories notspecifiedfor usewith
thisoxygen concentratormayimpairitsperformance. Recommended
accessoriesarereferenced withinthismanual.

TheManufacturerdoesnotrecommendthesterilization of thisequipment.
If theunit hasnot beenused for anextended timeperiod,it needs tooperate
foraminimumof severalminutesbeforepowerfailurealarmcan become
activated.
For unitsequipped withthe oxygen monitor option-Whenyou turntheunit on,
it’snormal forthe amberOXYGEN MONITORlighttoturnon andremainon
forup tofiveminutes.
Theconcentratorreleaseswarm airoutthebottom ofthe unit which can
permanentlydiscolor temperaturesensitiveflooringsurfaces such asvinyl.
Theconcentratorshouldnot beused over flooringthat issensitivetoheat
staining. TheManufacturer isnotresponsiblefor flooringthatbecomes
discolored.
Toprevent avoidwarranty,followall manufacturers’instructions.
Donot attempt anymaintenance otherthanthe possiblesolutions listed within
the manual.
PortableandmobileRFcommunications equipment caneffectmedical
electricalequipment.
Thereisneveradangerofdepletingtheoxygen inaroomwhen you use your
Oxygen Concentrator unit.

1.0 Introduction
This PatientManualwill acquaintyou with AirSep’s VisionAire 2 and VisionAire 3
Oxygen Concentrators. Makesure you readand understand all oftheinformation
contained in this guidebefore operatingyourconcentrator. Shouldyou haveany
questions, yourEquipmentProvider will behappyto answer themforyou.
Why YourPhysicianPrescribedOxygen
Manypeopletodaysufferfromavarietyofheart,lung, and otherrespiratorydiseases. A
significantnumberofthesepatients can benefit fromsupplementaloxygentherapyfor
respiratorycareathome,in thehospital, oratamedicalfacility.
Oxygen is agas thatmakes up 21%oftheroomairwebreathe. Ourbodiesdepend on a
steadysupplyto function properly. Yourphysician has prescribed supplementaloxygen
therapybecauseyourbodyis notabletogetenough oxygenfromroomair. Oxygen is a
non-addictivedrug,and yourphysician prescribed aflowsufficientto improveyour
condition.
Pleasekeep in mind thatunauthorized oxygen therapycan bedangerous. You mustseek
medicaladvice beforeyou usethis unit. TheEquipmentProvider who suppliesyour
oxygenequipmentwill demonstratehowto settheprescribedflowrate.
Whatis anOxygenConcentrator?
Oxygen concentratorswere introduced in themid-1970s and havebecomethemost
convenient, reliablesource ofsupplementaloxygen availabletoday.Withoutan oxygen
concentrator, theaveragepatientwould require adeliveryof12 bottles/cylinders of
oxygeneach month. Youroxygen concentratorproduces all theoxygenyou need, with
no deliveries required.
Theairwebreathecontains approximately21%oxygen, 78%nitrogen, and 1%other
gases. In theVisionAire2 orVisionAire 3 unit, roomairpasses through aregenerative
adsorbentmaterialcalledmolecular sieve. This materialseparates theoxygen fromthe
nitrogenand other gases.Theresult is aconstantsupplyofhigh concentration
supplementaloxygen thatis delivered to thepatient.
Note:There is never adangerofdepletingtheoxygen inaroomwhenyou useyour
VisionAire 2 orVisionAire 3 unit.

OperatorProfile:
AirSep’sStationaryConcentratorsare intendedtosupplysupplementalOxygentousers
sufferingfromdiscomfortduetoailmentswhichaffecttheefficiencyofoneslungsto
transfer theoxygeninairtotheirbloodstream.Userscanbenefit fromsupplemental
oxygentherapyforrespiratorycare athome,inthehospital,oratamedicalfacility.
OxygenConcentratoruserequiresaphysician’sprescription, and arenotintendedforlife
supportuse.
AlthoughOxygentherapycanbeprescribedforpatientsofall agesthetypicaloxygen
therapypatientisolder than65 yearsofageand suffersfromchronicobstructive
pulmonarydisease(COPD).Patientstypicallyhavegood cognitiveabilitiesand mustbe
abletocommunicatediscomfort.Iftheuserisunabletocommunicatediscomfort,or
unabletoreadand understand theconcentratorlabelingandinstructions foruse,thenuse
isrecommendedonlyunder thesupervision ofonewho can. Ifanydiscomfortisfelt
whileusingtheconcentrator,patientsare advisedtocontacttheirhealthcareprovider.
Patientsare also advisedtohaveback-up oxygenavailable(i.e.cylinderoxygen)inthe
eventofapoweroutageorconcentratorfailure.There are no other uniqueskillsoruser
abilities required forconcentratoruse.

2.6 Safety Features:
ØCompressorMotor:Thermalsafetyisensured byathermostatsituated in
thestatorwinding(135°C/ 275 °F). Asafetyreliefvalveis fitted to the
compressoroutletand iscalibrated to 280 kPa(40psig).
ØPower Failure :In theeventtheunit is operatingand aloss ofpoweroccurs,
an audiblesingle-pulseintermittentalarmwill activate.
ØOxygenMonitor:Theoxygen monitordetects anydrop inconcentration
below82%(±3%)and activates avisualalarm(amber LEDindicatoron front
panel).Iftheconcentration continues to operatebelow82%, anaudible2 -
pulseintermittentalarmwill also activate.
ØHi Pressure: An over-pressure safetyfeatureprevents potentialdamageto
device components atapressure of207 kPa(30 psig(± 2 psig)). Anaudible
4-pulseintermittentalarmwill activate.
ØLowPressure: An audible3-pulseintermittentalarmwill activateifthe
device pressure reduces to ≤35 kPa(5 psig(± 1 psig)).
ØNo FlowWarning : An obstruction to theflowofoxygen, such asapinchor
kink in thedeliverycannula, will activatean audible6-pulseintermittent
alarm.

3.0 HowTo Operate YourOxygenConcentrator
Reviewthefollowinginformation before you operateyouroxygenconcentrator.
Theconcentratorreleaseswarmairoutthebottomoftheunit which can
permanentlydiscolortemperaturesensitiveflooringsurfaces such as vinyl.
Theconcentratorshouldnotbeused over flooring thatis sensitiveto heat
staining. Themanufacturer is notresponsibleforflooringthatbecomes
discolored.
3.1 Humidifier BottleConnection
(Optional)
Ifadditionalhumidification is required withyouroxygen therapy, performthe
followingsteps each timeyou fill orclean thehumidifier, which mayhavebeen
initiallysetup foryouruse.
1. Removethehumidifier bottlefromthehumidifier bottlerecess.
2. Open thehumidifier bottle.Ifyou haveapre-filledbottle, do notperformthis
step. Proceed to step 5.
3. Fill thehumidifier bottlewith coolorcold water(distilled water is preferred)
to thefill lineindicated on thebottle. DO NOT OVERFILL.
4. Re-connectthetop coverto thehumidifier bottle.
5. Place thehumidifier bottlein thehumidifier bottlerecess on theback ofthe
concentratorand connectthehumidifier bottletubingto theoxygen outletand
thehumidifier bottlefitting.
Ifthehumidifier bottletubingis notproperlyconnected to thehumidifier
bottlefittingorto theoxygen outlet,an oxygen leak can occur.
3.2 Cannula Connection
Connectthetubingand cannulato theunit’s oxygen outlet, orto theoptional
humidifier’s oxygen outlet.
3.3 Starting theConcentrator
“No Smoking – Oxygen inUse” signsmustbe prominentlydisplayed inthe
home, orwhereoxygen isin use. Patientsand theircaregivers mustbe informed
aboutthe dangers ofsmokingin the presence of,orwhileusing, medicaloxygen.
Donotuseextensioncordswiththisunitor connect too manyplugsintothesame
electrical outlet. Theuseofextensioncordscouldadverselyaffecttheperformance ofthe
device. Toomanyplugsintooneoutlet canresult inanoverloadtotheelectrical panel
causingthebreaker/fusetoactivate or fireifthebreaker or fusefailstooperate.
Positiontheunit awayfromcurtainsor drapes, hotair registersor heaters. Becertainto
place theunit onaflat surfaceandmakesureall sidesareat least1foot(30 cm) away

2. Insertthepower cord pluginto theelectricaloutlet.
3. Setthe I/0 power switch to the“I” position to turn theunit on. An audible
alarmwill loudlysound forapproximately5 seconds.
4. Thelowoxygen concentration indicatorremains on forafewminutes and
until theoxygen concentration reaches minimumconcentration requirements,
(onlypertains to unit equipped with an Oxygen Monitor)
5. To settheflowofsupplementaloxygen, turn theflowmeter adjustmentknob
leftorrightuntil theball insidetheflowmeter centers on theflowlinenumber
prescribed byyourphysician. To viewtheflowmeter attheproper angle, note
thattheback lineand thefrontnumber linemustgiveappearanceofoneline.
6. Theconcentratoris nowreadyforuse.
Optimaloxygen concentration isobtained within10 minutesafterthe device is
switched on (90%ofthe concentration isobtained afterapproximately5
minutes).
It isvery importanttoselectonlythe prescribedlevelofoxygen
. Do not
change the flowselection unlessyou have been directed to do so bya licensed
clinician.
Normally,you should notneed to adjusttheflowmeter on yourunit.Ifyou turn the
flowmeter adjustmentknob clockwise,you will decreaseand can shutofftheflowof
oxygenfromyourunit.
Ensurethe cannula isfully inserted and secure. You should hearorfeeloxygen
flowto the prongsofthe nasalcannula. Ifoxygen doesnotseemto flow, first
verifythatthe flowmeterball isregisteringa flow.Then, place the tipofthe
cannulaintoa glassofwater; if bubblescome outofthe cannula,oxygen is
flowing.Ifbubblesdo notappear, refertothetroubleshootingsection ofthis
manual.

4.0 Care and Cleaning
Electricalshock hazard
.Turn Off the unit and disconnectthe powercord
fromthe electricoutletbefore you clean the unittopreventaccidentalelectrical
shockand burn hazard. Only your EquipmentProvider or aqualified
service technician shouldremove the coversor service the unit.
Care should be taken topreventthe Oxygen Concentratorfromgettingwetor
allowingfluidstoenterthe unit. Thiscancausethe unitto malfunction orshut
down, and cause an increased riskforelectricalshockorburns.
Do notuse liquid directlyon the unit. Alistofundesirablechemicalagents
includesbutisnotlimited to the following:alcoholand alcohol-based
products,concentrated chlorine-based products(ethylene chloride), andoil-
based products(Pine-Sol®,Lestoil®).These are NOTto be used to clean the
plastic housingon the unit, astheycan damage the unit’s plastic.
Clean the cabinet, controlpanel,and powercordonlywith a mildhousehold
cleanerapplied with a damp cloth orsponge, and then wipe all surfacesdry.
Do notallowany liquidtogetinside the device.
Alwaysfollowthe cannulamanufacturer’s instructionsforproperuse. Replace
the disposable cannula asrecommended bythe cannulamanufactureroryour
