Howto operate theAudionetAMPI
TheAudionetAMPIisanaudiopower amplifier ofhighestperformance
and finish qualityand long-life stability.Thissystemisdesignedforab-
solutenaturalmusicreproduction.
Thefollowingwill giveyou all information abouthowtooperateyour
AMPI.Pleasereadthiscarefullybefore thefirstuse.Followingthese
instructions, yourAMPIwill giveyou long-lastingpleasure and satisfac-
tion.

Connecting the system
Pleaseconnectthepower jackattherear toyourwall outlet.You should
either usetheprovidedpower cordoranother oneallowedforyour
homecountryspecifications.
NOTE:
Thepower specificationsontherearmustmeet toyourhomecoun-
try specifications.
TheAMPI isaClass I-systemand mustbeearthed.Pleaseensure a
stableearthconnection.
Forconnectingorremovingapreamplifier,theAMPIhastobeswitched
off.Pleaseensure thatall connectorcablesare inabsolutelybestcondi-
tion.
TheAMPIhastwoRCAinputsfortheconnection ofapreamplifier,e.g.
AudionetPRE. Duetothedualmono construction, leftand rightinputs
are separated attherear.
Pleaseconnectleftand rightinputoftheAMPItothecorresponding
outputs ofyourpreamplifier.
TheAMPIhasaprotection circuit topreventdamageofthesystemin
caseofshort-circuit betweentheloudspeaker outputs. Nevertheless, tobe
on thesafe sideyourAMPIshouldbeswitchedoff whileyou are work-
ingon thecables between amplifier and loudspeakers.
Pleaseconnecttheleftand rightloudspeaker outputs to thecorresponding
inputsofyourloudspeakers. You shouldpayattention tophasecoinci-
dence ofyourconnections. Thismeans thattheredoutputs (+) oftheam-
plifier are connectedtothepositiveinputsoftheloudspeakers(usually
red)and thewhiteoutputs(-) are connectedtotheloudspeakers’negative

inputs(usuallywhiteorblack).Deviation will causeloss ofsound qual-
ity.
Thenominalloudspeaker impedance mustbe2ohmsormore (recom-
mended are 4 ohms).
Withasecond AMPIbridgedoperation ispossible(pleaserefer totech-
nicalinformation).Inthiscase,everyamplifier suppliesonlyoneloud-
speaker.Forthattheoutputsignalofthepreamplifier mustbeavailable
in inverted formadditionally(e.g. usetheAudionetPRE).
Pleaseensure thatall amplifiers are switched off.
Forthe left channelnowpleasedo thefollowing:Connectthenormal
signalofthe left preamplifier outputtotheleftinputand theinverted
signaltotherightinputoftheAMPIsupplyingthe left loudspeaker.
Pleasemakeasolidconnection (25 mm2Ø)betweenboth(–)-loud-
speaker outputs. Nowpleaseconnectthe left loudspeaker tobothremain-
ing(+)-outputs(thepositiveinputoftheloudspeaker tothe(+)-outputof
theleftchannel).Forconnectingthe right channelpleasedo thecorre-
spondingwiththesecond amplifier (you onlyhavetoreplace every„left“
in bold face by„right“).
Nowyou mayswitchon theamplifiers. Inbridgedoperation theloud-
speaker impedance mustbe4 ohms ormore.
Incombination withanAudionetpreamplifier (e.g.AudionetPRE)the
AMPIcanbeswitchon and off bythepreamplifier.Pleaseconnectthe
Audionet-link outputofthepreamplifier withaToslink opticalfibre ca-
bletotheAudionet-link inputoftheAMPI.Thepower switchatthe
frontmustbein „off“ position.
Ifyou ownasecond (ormore) AMPI,it isalso possibletoswitchon and
off theseamplifierswithAudionet-link. Therefore pleaseconnectthelink
outputofthefirstamplifier withthelink inputofthesecond amplifier
and so on. Inorder topreventoverloadofyourhouseinstallation, the
amplifiers will switch on with atimedelay.

Operating the system
Before switchingon yourAMPIpleaseensure thatall cableconnections
are inbestcondition and theconnectedpreamplifier isalreadyswitched
on.
To switchtheAMPIon, pleasepress the„power“ button on thefront
panel.Becauseofabsence ofanyrelayinthesignalpath, switchingon
maycauseasoft„plop“.
To switchtheAMPIoff,pleasepress againthe„power“ button on the
frontpanel.Theamplifier nowstill works forabout8seconds, until the
power capacitors are discharged. Nowthemusicstops.
To enable„remotecontrolling“byAudionet-link, after switchingoff the
AMPIisalwaysinstand-bystatewithlowpower consumption. Onlyin
caseoflonger absence theAMPIshouldbedisconnectedfromthepower
supply(mains unplugged).
YourAMPIhasapowerfulprotection circuit topreventdamageofthe
amplifier itselfortheloudspeakersconnected. Incaseoftroublethe
AMPIisswitchedtostand-bystate.Theproblemsource is indicated bya
flash codeoftheLEDnextto the„power“ button:

Technical information
TheAMPIisconstructedasadual-mono amplifier.SMDtechniquesare
usedtooptimisehigh-frequencycharacteristics. All signalpaths are re-
ducedtominimumlength. No‘evil’elements(couplingcapacitors, coils,
relays)are locatedinthesignalpath. Theconstruction ismagnetically
and capacitivelyoptimised. Negativemagneticand electricinfluence and
interaction betweeninput,decouplingand power section are reducedtoa
residualminimum.
Theinputsections are suppliedbya50 VA toroidaltransformer with
separatewindingsforstereochannels. Twopotted700 VA toroidaltrans-
formersfeedthepower section. Thecontrolunit issuppliedbyanother
transformer.
Thecapacityofthefastand pulse-resistanthigh-currentcapacitorsis
132,000 mF.Thevoltagesare regulatedwithdiscreteand optimisedultra
high-speed MOS-FET regulators.
TheaudiosignalisreceivedbyamonolithicdualFET precedingadual-
stagevoltageamplifier.Itsgain-bandwidthproductexceeds 1 GHz.Input
and outputsection are decoupled using„bootstrapped“emitter followers.
Theoutputsection isequippedwithpower MOS-FETs. Theycanhandle
apulsepower up to2.5 kW.Thehighbiascurrentthroughthatstage
(0.4 Amperes)isregulatedactively.Therefore,signalsatnormalvolume
levelare handled pure Class A.
Theprotection circuit permanentlycontrolsDC,HF,temperature and
overload. IncaseoftroubletheAMPIisswitchedtostand-bystate.The
problemsource isindicatedbyaflash codeoftheLEDnexttothe
„power“ button.
