1. Foreword
Avant Tecno Oy would like to thank you for your purchase of this attachment for your Avant loader. It has
been designed and manufactured based on years of experience on product development and manufacturing.
By familiarising yourself with this manual and following the instructions, you ascertain your safety and ensure
the reliable operation and long service life of the equipment. Read the instructions carefully before starting to
use the equipment or performing maintenance.
The purpose of this manual is to help you to:
operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner
observe and prevent any hazardous situations
keep the equipment intact and ensure a long service life
With these instructions, even an inexperienced user can use the attachment and loader safely. The manual
includes important instructions for experienced AVANT operators as well. Ensure that all persons using the
loader have received proper guidance and familiarised themselves with the manual of the loader, each
attachment that are used, and all safety instructions before using the equipment. Using the equipment for
other purposes or use in any other way than described in this manual is prohibited. Keep this manual at hand
throughout the service life of the equipment. If you sell or transfer the equipment, be sure to hand over this
manual to the new owner. If the manual is lost or damaged, you can request a new one from your Avant
dealer or from the manufacturer.
In addition to the safety instructions included in this manual, you must observe all occupational safety
regulations, local laws, and other regulations concerning the use of the equipment. Particularly the regulations
concerning the use of the equipment on public road areas must be observed. Contact your Avant dealer for
more information about local requirements before you operate the loader on road areas.
Contact your local AVANT dealer for any questions, service, spare parts or about any problems that may
occur with the operation of your machine.

details shown in this manual may differ from your equipment. Pictures may also depict optional equipment or

2. Designed purpose of use
The AVANT Cutting bar S30 is an attachment that is intended to be used with AVANT multi purpose loaders
that are shown in Table 1. The Cutting bar is a very effective attachment for cutting hedges and can also be
used for road shoulders. The cutting bar is equipped with S30 type quick coupling and is intended to be used
with the Avant S30 Mechanical side arm A431070 and the Avant S30 Hydraulic side arm A424552. It cannot
be mounted directly on the attachment coupling plate of the loader.
The frame and actuator mechanism are however stronger than on regular cutter bar mower, which means the
S30 cutting bar is optimized for hedge cutting. Because of the higher frame the Cutting bar S30 is not well
suited for cutting hay. The Cutting bar S30, together with the mechanical or hydraulic side arm, has good
outreach. This makes cutting also possible from hard-to-reach areas like slopes and road banks. There are
wear plates at each end of the cutting bar, useful when working on paved and asphalt surfaces for instance.
The wear plates at each end of the cutting bar also protect the replaceable special steel blades.
The Cutting bar is set to correct working position with the tilting function of the side arm. When transporting
the cutting bar, the blade must be set to upright position and the blade cover must be fitted. The attachment is
started and operated from the driver’s seat driving forward at calm speed that is adjusted according to
operating and terrain conditions.
A pressure relief valve protects the blades of the cutting bar and the cutting mechanism when hitting an
obstacle. However, the blade does not swing back when it hits an obstacle. You must stay alert and observe
the terrain conditions and the operation of the machine in order to avoid hitting obstacles. The dangers related
to the strong and powerful cutting must always be kept in mind when operating or otherwise handling the
attachment.
The Cutting bar S30 is not designed for any other use than what is specified in this manual and must not be
used for any other purposes than intended.
The attachment has been designed to require as little maintenance as possible. The operator can perform
regular maintenance tasks. All repair work can’t be performed by the operator, and demanding repair and
maintenance operations are to be left for professional maintenance. All maintenance work must be done using
proper safety equipment. Spare parts must be identical with original specifications, which can be ensured by
using only original spare parts. A separate spare parts catalogue may be available, consult your Avant dealer.
Familiarise yourself with the manual's instructions regarding service and maintenance. Please contact your
AVANT retailer if you have additional questions about the operation or maintenance of the equipment, or if
you require spare parts or maintenance services.

3. Safety instructions for using the attachment
Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly
powerful and improper or careless use or maintenance may cause serious personal injury or property
damage. Due to this, all operators must carefully familiarise themselves about correct use and the operator's
manuals of both the loader and the attachment before starting operation. Do not use the attachment if you
have not completely familiarised yourself with its operation and the related hazards.
DANGER
Misuse, careless use, or using an attachment that is in poor condition, may
cause risk of serious injuries. Familiarise yourself with the controls of the
loader,
correct coupling procedure, and the correct way to operate the attachment at a safe
area. Study especially how to stop the equipment in a safe manner. Read all safety
precautions carefully.
Read all safety instructions carefully before handling the attachment
WARNING
When attaching an attachment to the loader, ensure that the locking pins of the
loader's quick attach plate are in the lower position and that they have locked
the attachment to the loader. Never lift or move an unlocked attachment.

Make sure that cutting bar or other attachment is securely connected to the side arm.
Always refer also to the operator's manual of the separate attachment.

The cutting bar and the side arm or boom where it is coupled to are designed to be
used by one
operator at a time. Do not let others near the danger area of the
equipment when it is in use.

Always transport the attachment as low as possible to keep the centre of gravity low,
and keep both the side extension telescopic boom and the telescopic boom of the
loader completely retracted during driving.
Risk of tipping over - Side arm reduces the lateral stability of the loader. Do not
drive on inclined surfaces when the side arm is equipped with an attachment and the
arm is extended. Use of additional c
ounterweights is recommended. Make sure that
the tyres of the loader are filled to their recommended pressure to reduce tilting of the
loader. Drive carefully on uneven surfaces where movements caused by holes or
bumps on the surface can cause the loader to tip over when driving at high speed.
Risk of crushing under the attachment or the loader boom - Lower the
attachment firmly on the ground before leaving the driver’s seat.
Make sure that
the attachment is properly supported during any maintenance or i
nspections. Do not
leave the driver’s seat when the loader boom is lifted. Going under a raised
attachment or loader boom is dangerous, as the boom may lower due to loss of
stability, mechanical fault, or if another person operates the controls of the loader.
Tipping over hazard - Make sure that overhead clearance is sufficient. Hitting an
overhead obstacle may cause the loader to tip over. Keep a safe distance from
electric cables, lamps, or other electric systems; hitting live parts may cause electric
shock.
Risk of crushing - Prevent others from entering the work area or getting near
the loader when in use.
The mower is intended to be used by one adult operator at
a time. Pay attention to the surroundings and other persons and machines moving in
th
e vicinity. Always make sure that it is safe to move with the loader and to operate
the attachment.
Always keep a minimum safety distance of at least two metres
from other persons.

Never leave the driver’s seat when the attachment is running or if the auxiliary
hydraulics control lever is locked on. The blades move for a short period after the
hydraulic supply has been shut off. Wait until the blades have stopped completely
before going near the attachment.
Do not drive at high speed unless you can be sure that there are no obstacles at the
working area. The loader may stop suddenly if it hits an obstacle. Remember that
there may be hidden rocks, pole wires, or other obstructions or fragile surfaces at
the work area.
Always keep in mind that regardless to the compact size of the attachment, it is very
strong, and can easily sever fingers, arms, or legs, even if the operating speed is set
to low. Follow the safe stopping procedure so that any residual pressure left in the
hydraulic system will not
cause unexpected moving of the blades. Put the blade
cover in place whenever the mower is not in use.
Keep hands and feet away from moving components. Wearing loose clothes, such as
loose shoelaces, or long scarves, should be avoided when working with t
he
attachment.
Survey the operating area before starting the mower. Observe and mark, as
necessary, any obstructions at the area, such as rocks, posts, or stay wires. Keep the
limits of the machine in mind and remove obstacles or larger trees beforehand.
Operate the controls of the loader only when sitting on the driver’s seat. Wrong
control movements create crushing and severing hazards to any person in the vicinity
of the loader.
Operate only at well lit areas. Make sure that all lights of the loader are in good
condition, clean, and adjusted correctly. Extra work lights are recommended for the
loader when operating during dark. Mark any obstacle at the work area before
operating to avoid collisions.
Use the attachment only for its intended use and only with original tools and spare
parts.
Shut down the loader engine and release any residual pressure before adjustments
or maintenance work.
Always transport the mower as low and as close to the machine as possible to keep
the centre of gra
vity low. On slippery surfaces drive slowly and deliberately. Operate
the controls of the loader slowly and calmly especially on inclined terrain.
Shut down the loader and place the attachment to a safe position as shown in Safe
stopping procedure before any cleaning, maintenance, or adjustments.
Pay attention to the surroundings and any other persons and machines moving in the
vicinity. Pay attention to the contours of the terrain and other hazards, such as
branches and trees that can reach to the dr
iver's area, loose rocks, and slippery
surfaces.
Make sure to use only an attachment that is in good condition. Do not modify the
attachment in any way that could affect its safety.
Use the attachment only for its intended purpose. Other use may create unnecessary
safety risks, and the equipment may get damaged.
Make sure that the loader is equipped with necessary safety components, and that
they are in working condition. Seat belt must be used. If there are specific hazards
related to the operating area, use appropriate safety equipment.
Also read the safety instructions and correct use of the loader from the operator's
manual of the loader.

DANGER
Stuck blade can move and cut when removed blockage -
Risk of cutting and
severing. Nev
er perform any cleaning, maintenance, service, or adjustment tasks if the
loader engine is running or if the auxiliary hydraulics is locked on. Blade bar that has
become stuck may move unexpectedly when removing a blockage because of residual
pressure left
in the hydraulic systems may cause cutting motion, creating severing
hazard to any person near the blade bar. Follow the safe stopping procedure shown
below.
DANGER
Wrong, improper, or careless use of the attachment causes serious risk of severe
injuries or death.
Familiarise yourself with the controls of the loader in a safe area. Pay
particular attention to the safe stopping of the attachment and the loader; follow the safe
stopping procedure shown in this manual before leaving the driver's seat.
WARNING
Risk of crushing -
Never allow anyone to get under a
lifted attachment or loader boom.
Keep in mind that the
loader boom can be lowered or tilted even if the engine has
been shut down (crushing hazard). The loader is not intended
to be left
to keep a load elevated for longer periods. Always
lower the attachment to a safe position before leaving the
driver's seat.
Remember to wear proper personal protective equipment:
The noise level at the driver's seat may exceed 85 dB(A) depending
on loader
model and operating cycle. Extended exposure to loud noise can cause
hearing impairment. Wear hearing protection while working with the loader.
Wear protective gloves.
Wear safety boots whenever working with the loader.
Wear safety glasses e.g. when handling hydraulic components.

Safe stopping of the attachment, before going near the attachment:
WARNING
Always stop the attachment following safe stopping procedure before leaving
the driver's seat. Safe stopping procedure preven
ts all unintentional movements of
the attachment. Note that the loader boom can move down even if the engine of the
loader is turned off. Safe stopping procedure:
Lower the boom and the attachment on the ground.
Shut down the loader engine and lock the parking brake.

Release residual pressure from the hydraulic system; move all hydraulic control
levers to their extreme positions a couple of times.
Prevent starting of the machine, remove ignition key.
Observe the local regulations concerning the use of the equipment on public roads. The
loader may need to be registered for road use. Contact your local Avant dealer or local
authorities for more information.

To apply a new label: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove all grease. Allow it to dry completely. Peel off

5. Assembling the attachment
Attaching the attachment to the hydraulic boom is quick and easy, but it must be done carefully. The
attachment is mounted to the loader by using the S30 quick coupling on the hydraulic boom and the
counterpart on the attachment.
If the attachment is not locked to the hydraulic boom, it may detach from the loader and cause a hazardous
situation. The loader must not be driven and the boom must never be lifted when the attachment has not been
locked. To prevent hazardous situations, always follow the coupling procedure shown below. Also remember
the safety instructions shown in this manual. The attachment is mounted to the hydraulic boom as follows:
WARNING
Crushing risk - Make sure that an unlocked attachment will not move or fall over.
Do not stay in the area between the attachment and the loader. Mount the attachment
only on level surface.
Never move or lift an attachment that has not been locked.
5.1 Coupling an attachment to the side arm
Connect an attachment to the mechanical (A431070) or hydraulic side arm (A424552) after the side arm is
fully connected and locked to the loader. Also the hydraulic hoses and the electric harness of the side arm
must be connected to the loader before it is possible to couple an attachment to the side arm. See instructions
in this manual.
A tool for tightening and opening of the S30 coupling is stored at the Avant quick coupling plate of the side
arm.
S30 Quick coupling:
1. Make sure the side arm or the hydraulic boom is connected and locked to the loader. The hydraulic and
electric connectors must also be coupled.
2. Open the S30 coupling of the side arm with the Allen key that is stored at the Avant quick coupling plate
of the side arm.
3. Drive the loader close to the attachment. Turn and tilt the side arm with the controls of the loader to set
the S30 coupling of the side arm to its counterpart on the attachment.
4. Lock the attachment by tightening the screw on the S30 coupling of the side arm.
Do not lift or move the side arm until the attachment is fully connected to it.
Step 1:

Attach the Side arm A431070 or Hydraulic boom
A424552 to the loader as shown in their operator's
manuals.
Because the use of the Cutting bar S30 without a
side arm or boom is not possibl
e, see additional
instructions about the use of the side arm from the
relevant manual.
Lift the side arm above the attachment.

Ensure that the routing of the hydraulic hoses do
not prevent the installation.

Step 2:
Align the quick coupling with the
counterpart and
lower the boom on its place.

When the quick coupling of the boom is completely
on its place, the safety wedge (1) is locked with
adjusting screw (2).
Step 3:
Lift the boom slightly –
pull the boom control lever
backward to raise the attachment off the ground.

Always check the locking of the attachment
before use.
WARNING
Risk of falling objects -
Prevent dropping of
attachment.
An attachment that has not been completely locked to the
loader may fall on the boom or towards t
he operator, or
fall under the loader during driving, causing loss of
control of the loader. Never move or lift an attachment
that has not been locked.
WARNING
Make sure the loader is compatible with the attachment. Stability of the loader
,
possible overload of the attachment, and compatibility of loader control systems must be
ensured in addition to mechanical compatibility of the attachment. If you use the
attachment with a loader that is not fit to be used with the attachment model you h
ave,
risks include tipping over, damage to attachment due to overload, and risks related to
uncontrolled motion of attachment and its parts. If your loader is not listed in Table 1 on
page 6, ask your Avant dealer before using this attachment.

5.2 Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic hoses
WARNING
Risk of movement of the attachment and ejection of hydraulic oil -
Never connect
or disconnect quick couplings or other hydraulic components while the control
lever of the auxiliar
y hydraulics control lever is locked on or if the system is
pressurized.
Connecting or disconnecting the hydraulic couplings while the system is
pressurized may lead to unintended movements of the attachment, or ejection of high-
pressure fluid, which can c
ause serious injuries or burns. Follow safe stopping procedure
before disconnecting hydraulics.
The hydraulic connectors of the Cutting bar S30 fit to the outlets of the mechanical A431070 or hydraulic
A424552 side arm. All three couplings must be connected to prevent damage to the hydraulic motor.
The couplings are connected by pushing a fitting of a hose into the counterpart. Connect the connector with a
colored marker to the middle connector on the side arm (pressure fitting). The cutting bar will not move if the
hoses are connected in wrong order.
Keep all fittings as clean as possible; use the protective caps on both the attachment and
the loader. Dirt, ice, etc. may make using the fittings significantly more difficult. Never
leave the hoses han
ging on the ground; place the couplings onto the holder on the
attachment.
Conventional quick couplings
(alternative couplings for some loader models):
Before connecting or disconnecting the standard quick couplings, the
residual pressure must be relea
sed as shown below. The conventional
quick couplings will not connect, if there is pressure in the hydraulic
system.
To connect and disconnect the standard couplings, move the collar at the end of the female fitting. The hoses
should be connected so that the fitting equipped with a coloured cap is connected to the corresponding fitting
of the loader. Note that the protective caps on the loader and the attachment can be fastened to each other
during operation to reduce the accumulation of dirt. When disconnecting the standard quick couplings a small
amount of oil may drip from the couplings. Wear protective gloves and have some cloth at hand to keep the
equipment clean.

Disconnecting hydraulic hoses:
Before disconnecting the fittings, lower the attachment to safe position on solid and level surface. Turn the
control lever of the auxiliary hydraulics to its neutral position.
When uncoupling the attachment, always disconnect the hydraulic couplings before
unlocking the quick coupling, to prevent hos
e damage and any oil spills. Reinstall the
protective caps on the fittings to prevent impurities from entering the hydraulic system.
Releasing residual hydraulic pressure:
In case residual pressure is left in the hydraulic system of the attachment, it is often possible to disconnect the
hydraulic couplings, but it may be difficult to connect them the next time. If the fittings will not connect, the
residual pressure must be released by turning the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader, when the
engine is turned off. To make sure that there will not be residual pressure in the hydraulic system of the
attachment, shut down the loader engine and move the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader back
and forth before disconnecting the couplings.

6. Instructions for use
Check the attachment and the operating environment once more before starting to work, and that all obstacles
have been removed from the operating area. Quick inspection of the equipment and the operating area before
use are parts of ensuring safety and the best performance of the equipment.
Too high operating speed can damage the attachment. Never operate the attachment
with 2-
pump setting of loader. See instructions about correct operating speed in this
manual.
Practise the use of the attachment and its controls in an open and safe area. If you are unfamiliar with the
loader in use, it is recommended to practise its use without any attachments.
WARNING

leaving the driver’s seat and keep a
safe distance to others.

when it is necessary to go near the
blades or when handling the blade bar,
i.e. cleaning, height adjustment, or
uncoupling the attachment.

Always fit the blade cover when the
attachment is not in use
WARNING
Risk of collisions - Ensure good visibility.
Never lift this attachment to a height where
visibility from the driver's position is obstructed. Ensure unobstructed visibility to all
directions. Keep all windows clean and free of dirt, ice, snow etc.
WARNING
Risk of tipping over -
Side arm reduces the lateral
stability of the loader. Always keep load close to the
ground, and always wear seat belt.
Pay special attention to
stability of the loader when an extended side arm is equipped
with an attachment. The loader may tip over on
inclined or
uneven surfaces causing serious injuries from impact and
crushing. Always wear seat belt. Use the side arm only with
loaders that are equipped with ROPS and FOPS. Avoid
abrupt movements and always drive slowly and carefully on
inclined terrain
s, and on uneven or slippery surfaces. Use of
additional counterweights is recommended.

6.1 Checks before use
Check that all obstacles, including any possibly hidden ones, have been removed from the working
area or marked visibly before operation.
Check before each work shift that the bar and its blades are in full working condition. Never use if
blades are missing or broken.
Ensure that bystanders are at a safe distance when operating the equipment. Do not let anyone to
enter danger area of the boom or to stay directly in front of the loader. Also make sure that it is safe to
reverse with the loader. Never assume that bystanders will remain where you last saw them;
especially children are often attracted to the moving equipment.
Check the general condition of the attachment and the loader, and check for possible hydraulic oil
leaks. The attachment must not be used, if there is a fault in the hydraulic system of the loader or the
attachment. Refer to Chapter 7 for maintenance instructions.
Operate the attachment and the controls of the loader only when seated on the driver’s seat. Ensure
that the loader and the attachment are used in a safe manner and as intended. Do not allow children
to operate the equipment.
Never operate the loader or attachments while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medication that
may impair judgement or cause drowsiness, or if not otherwise medically fit to operate the equipment.
Remember correct working methods and avoid leaving the driver’s seat unnecessarily.

Avoid running over persons - Check surroundings before driving.
Always look in the
direction the loader is moving. Before reversing, always ensure that bystanders,
especially children, are at a safe distance to avoid back-over accidents.

6.2 Using the cutting bar
Before starting the cutting bar:
Set and adjust the cutting bar to correct operating position.
Starting the cutting bar:
Refer to separate operator's manual of the Mechanical side arm S30 or the Hydraulic boom for more
instructions about how to control the attachment. If you do not have the relevant manuals, do not use the
cutting bar. Contact your Avant dealer or service point for another copy of the manual.
Operate the controls of the loader and its attachment in a careful and smooth manner. Always avoid sharp
turns and sudden changes in speed or direction whenever using the cutting bar for the best stability of the
loader.
Normal operating position:
Adjust the telescopic arm to suitable work position
Use the controls of the loader to set the cutting bar to work position
Start the cutting bar after it is set to correct work position. See the operator's manual of the side arm or
boom for more information
WARNING
Careless operation can injure you or bystanders - Keep the loader
under control at
all times.
Operating a powerful mower requires the full attention of the operator. Do not
perform distractive actions while mowing, such as using mobile devices.

Recommended operating speed and maximum allowed oil flow:
Adjust engine RPM so that the loader's auxiliary hydraulic flow is within the specified range for the
cutting bar. Too little flow will not move the blades fast enough for good cutting results. Correct flow
makes sure that the blades move fast enough for a good finish. However, too high setting will result in
excess vibration and noise, and the cutting bar may get damaged. Generally, only the 1-pump setting
should be used (on applicable loaders).
Typically the cutting bar needs only low to medium flow of hydraulic oil. To keep noise, vibration, and
fuel consumption low, try which is the lowest rpm setting that is best suited for your application.
Adjust drive speed according to the material that is being cut, height of cutting, and ground surface
conditions to ensure a clean cut. Monitor the speed of the cutting bar by listening to changes in its
noise and adjust drive speed or engine rpm as needed.
Operate the attachment keeping the hydraulic flow within recommended range. Never
exceed maximum allowed input of hydraulic energy.
CAUTION
Risk of thrown parts - Avoid running the attachment at very high speed.
Operating
the attachment at too high speed may cause high vibrations, noise, or thrown parts from
the attachment, or damage that could lead to personal injury.

Risk of serious personal injuries - Never leave the equipment running unattended.
Start the attachment only when it is ready to be used. Do not go near the equipment
when another person operates the controls of the loader.
