BMC G11 User manual

1. SETTING UP THE CPAP / BIPAP UNIT
1.1 Place the CPAP / BIPAP unit on a flat surface.
1.2 Make sure the inlet port is free from obstruction.
1.3 Make sure the on / off switch is in the off position when not in use. Remember to always plug the
unit into a grounded outlet.
2. ASSEMBLY OF THE MASK AND HEADGEAR
2.1 Depending on the mask which was provided to you, connect all the straps in their appropriate
positions as outlined in the instructions guide.
2.2 Some masks contains a whisper swivel valve (expiratory port), others are built directly into the
mask. This valve is where your exhaled gas will escape from. Prevent this valve from being
obstructed.
2.3 Make sure the mask has a snug fit. You do not want it to be too tight or too loose as the air will
leak out the sides.
2.4 Each strap should be adjusted so that it forms a secure fit. Do not tighten one strap tighter then
the other; all straps should be pulled to the same extent.
3. FINAL ASSEMBLY
3.1 Connect the tubing to the mask.
3.2 The other end of the tubing should then be connected to the outlet of your CPAP / BIPAP unit.
3.3 Turn the unit on. Adjust the mask until there are no leaks; again keep in mind all straps should be
pulled to the same tension.
3.4 Once you have fitted the mask and there are no leaks you may want to mark the straps with a
marker to identify the position for future positioning.
3.5 Position the tubing so that it loops over the top of the bed, chair, or anything which will allow the
you to rest comfortably while not pulling on the mask or headgear.
3.6 If you utilize the ramping feature on your CPAP / BIPAP Unit, it will lower the initial pressure to
allow you to fall asleep and then only increase the pressure.
4. HUMIDIFIERS
4.1 Fill the humidifier with either clean tap water or distilled water. Please do not fill the chamber
beyond the fill line. This will prevent water from blowing into the circuit.
4.2 Never place medicinal agents into the chamber.
4.3 Always remember to turn the humidifier off when not in use, or when refilling the unit.
5. CLEANING PROCEDURE OF YOUR MASK
5.1 Remove the headgear and cushion from the mask.
5.2 With mild soap and warm water, gently wash the mask and cushion. Be sure to also rinse warm
soapy water through the inside of the tubing as well.
5.3 Allow to air dry throughout the day.
5.4 Once all the components are dry reassemble the components.
Note: If the mask still feels grimy or greasy repeat the above process again. Never wipe down any of
your supplies with alcohol, this can cause skin irritations or reduce the life of the product.
6. CHECK YOUR FILTERS
The air-inlet filter should be checked every 15 days and cleaned as necessary. The filter is located in the
rear of the device.
CAUTION–Proper filter function is important for the operation of the CPAP / BIPAP unit and to
protect the CPAP / BIPAP from damage.
To clean / replace the filters:
6.1 Remove the dark outer foam filter from the frame.
6.2 Wash the filter in warm water. Allow the filter to dry completely. If the filter is damaged, contact
MySleep for a replacement.
6.3 If you have an optional fine particle filter (white filter), inspect this filter and replace it if it shows
signs of dirt or damage. Do not wash the fine particle filter.
6.4 Install the fine particle filter behind the standard filter.
7. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
7.1 To avoid electric shock, always unplug the power cord from the wall outlet power source before
cleaning.
7.2 Never plug the CPAP / BIPAP unit in the wall if it has any water on it. Moisture always increases
the potential for electrical shock.
7.3 Never try to clean the CPAP / BIPAP unit by placing it directly into water. The electrical
components will be damaged.
7.4 Never try to repair the CPAP / BIPAP unit yourself.
7.5 Never place the CPAP / BIPAP directly near a window or a heater.
7.6 Do not use any solutions that contain bleach, chlorine, alcohol, scented oils or other aromatic-
based ingredients to clean the humidifier components or tubing. These solutions may reduce the
life of the product.
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE YOUR CPAP / BIPAP
1
8. 10 TIPS TO HELP YOU ADJUST TO CPAP
8.1 Start using your CPAP for short periods of time during the day while you relax, read or watch TV.
8.2 Try and use your CPAP every night, even if it is just for short periods of time until you are able to
use it for the entire night. Using it less makes it harder for your body to get used to it.
8.3 Try regulating and adjusting breathing in a relaxed state.
8.4 Use the "ramp" setting on your unit so the air pressure increases slowly to the required pressure
level.
8.5 Make small adjustments to your mask, tubing, straps and headgear until you get the right fit.
8.6 Nasal spray can be used to ease mild nasal congestion and keep your airway open. Consult your
physician.
8.7 Use a humidifier if you have a dry mouth, throat or nose.
8.8 Clean your mask, tubing and headgear once a week. Regularly check and replace the filters for
your CPAP unit.
8.9 Work closely with your referring physician and provide him/her with feedback on your response
to treatment.
8.10 CPAP involves a long-term commitment to improve your sleep and health. Continue to make a
daily commitment to use your CPAP every night.
