1. Introduction
Using UDS-10s or UDS-1100s, a CNC channel to K2100 / K2200 Door Controllers can be set up to
communicate over an Ethernet network.
Using a method called serial tunneling, two UDS-10s or UDS-1100s encapsulate serial data into packets and
transports them over the network.
Note
If replacing pIPer Serial Ethernet units, the pIPers at both ends must be replaced with UDS devices.
2. Installation
UDS #1 is connected to a serial port on the PC / CNC. A standard 9-way to 25-way serial cable can be used.
UDS #2 is connected to the serial port on the first door controller. The serial lead can be supplied (part no.
12090). Alternatively, a K2200IP that has an inbuilt UDS can be used.

3. Configuration
Each UDS is configured using the DeviceInstaller program supplied by Lantronix.
IMPORTANT
1. It is an absolute requirement for the error free operation of the UDS that static IP addresses are
used.
2. The DeviceInstaller program must be run on the same subnet as the UDS device. For example, if
there is a router between the PC running DeviceInstaller and the UDS then the configuration
process will not work.
3.1 DeviceInstaller Configuration
Notes
1. The procedure carried out in this section has to be performed before Telnet Configuration (see
Section 3.2) can be carried out.
2. Make a note of the MAC Address of the UDS (printed on the underside of the UDS or on the cover
above the IP unit of the K2200IP).
3. Consult your IT department to determine the IP Address and the PC Network Class for the UDS.
Procedure
1. Run the DeviceInstaller program and the DeviceInstaller window is displayed:

3. Enter the MAC Address of the UDS, IP Address to be assigned, and PC Network Class.
4. Select the Set IP Address and the Information window is displayed:

5. Select the OK button and the and the DeviceInstaller window is redisplayed:
6. Select (Search the network for devices) and the Search Network window is displayed:
7. Select the PC Network Class
8. Select the Start Search button and any UDS devices on the network will be displayed.
9. Select the Save button and the DeviceInstaller window is redisplayed with a list of all UDS devices
detected:

10. Select the required device.
11. Select Tools > Device Manager and the Device Management window is displayed:
12. Select (Telnet to Device) and a Telnet session will then start.
The DeviceInstaller part of the UDS configuration is complete, the next part is using Telnet.

3.2 Telnet Configuration
3.2.1 Connecting to the UDS
The UDSs can be connected outside of the DeviceInstaller by using Windows Telnet. To do this, connect
using the unit’s assigned IP Address and a port number of 9999. For example: use the command TELNET
192.168.101.52 9999 at the command prompt.
Notes
1. In the following example, text enclosed in a gray box represents the screen display of whatever
application is hosting the Telnet session.
2. Bold text in the gray box represent example values.
3. This is an example configuration with no gateway. If a gateway is required on a specific network, it
should be configured on the relevant gateway.
When Telnet has connected to the UDS, the following (or similar) is displayed:

3.2.2 UDS to PC Configuration
This section describes the configuration of the UDS for network operation.
Configuration
From the main menu (displayed above) type 0 (for the option Server Configuration) and press Enter.
IP Address : (000) 192.(000) 168.(000) 101.(000) 27<enter>
Set Gateway IP Address (Y) Y<enter>
Gateway IP addr (000) 192.(000) 168.(000) 101.(000) 254<enter>
Netmask: Number of Bits for Host Part (0=default) (00) 8<enter>
Change telnet config password (N) N<enter>

Enter the following information:
IP Address The IP Address displayed will be the one that was entered in
Section 3.1. Do not change this value; press Enter to move onto
the next step.
Set Gateway Address Press the Ykey, and press Enter.
Gateway IP Addr Enter the gateway IP address and press Enter.
Netmask The subnet mask (‘netmask’) is entered in an unusual fashion. The
prompt asks for the number of bits. For example, 255.255.255.0
corresponds to 8 bits. See the table below for other examples.

3.2.3 PC to Door Controller Configuration
After completing Section 3.2.2, the UDS needs to be configured to communicate with the PC.

From the basic parameters menu (see previous section) select 1and press Enter.

Datagram Type Enter the value 01 and press Enter.
Remote IP Address Enter IP address of the PC and press Enter.
Remote Port Press Enter to accept the default value.
Pack Cntrl Press Enter to accept the default value.
SendChar 1 Press Enter to accept the default value.
SendChar 2 Press Enter to accept the default value. The menu will now be displayed again.

Select 9(Save and Exit) and press Enter. Configuration of the UDS is now complete.

3.3 Testing Network Connectivity
To test if the UDS is accessible over the network:
1. Run the DeviceInstaller program.
2. Select the (Ping Device)and the Ping Device window is displayed:
3. Enter the IP Address of the unit to be pinged, and select the (Ping Device).
Successful pinging will be indicated by text similar to that displayed.
Note
Do not attempt to set up the door controller within application software until you have established that the
PC can “see” the UDS over the network.

4. Configuring the Door Controller
The door controller with the UDS attached to it, should have the following options set:
1. System Type 2
2. Baud Rate to 9600
3. Connect Modem set to N.
To set these parameters, see the documentation supplied with the door controller.
5. Configuring the Channel
The channel can be configured using Readykey for Windows or Readykey X. To set up the channel, see the
documentation and helpfiles supplied with the application software.
