You have made a good choice, as your new water ltering system is a real
quality product produced by BWT, the Europe-wide leading water technology
specialist from Austria.
Conventional water lters reduce carbonate hardness for prevention of lime
scale deposits, remove concentrations of heavy metals, e.g. lead and copper,
(if contained in the water) and eliminate taste-distorting elements, e.g. chlorine,
from the tap water. An ion exchanger takes on the main function by taking up
nearly all of the previously mentioned substances, except chlorine, primarily in
exchange with hydrogen ions. The result is a sour taste due to the low pH-value
of the water, which is in particular noticed at the beginning of the utilization
phase.
BWT takes an entirely different approach and thanks to the innovative Mg2+
formula offers a signicant advantage. In addition to the above mentioned
functions of a water lter, BWT in exchange with total hardness, uses magnesi-
um ions so that the water tastes less sour.
The pleasant effect: The valuable mineral magnesium serves as avour carrier
and thus provides for improved taste and more intense aroma of tea, coffee
and drinking water. A real benet for all who like to indulge their taste buds!

1. Product type and product designation
In the BWT water ltering system the potable water is
treated in 4 ltration stages:
Stage 1: Particle ltration
Stage 2: Reduction of lime scale and heavy metal
concentrations, exchange of calcium
through magnesium ions
Stage 3: Reduction of undesirable odours and
taste-distorting substances (chlorine) and
certain organic impurities
Stage 4: Fine ltration
2. Function of the BWT lter cartridge
Clear water - clear results
The water lter is ideal for preparation of hot and cold drinks
as well as for cooking. The lime content of the water is reduced.
Particles contained in the water are ltered out of the water by
using ne lters. Tea, coffee as well as ice cubes are clear without
any clouds.
Better water
Concentrations of heavy metal, as for example lead and
copper and organic impurities, e.g. certain herbicides and
pesticides are reduced.
Savings
Scale deposits in coffee machines, espresso machines, pots and
water kettles are reduced, by which their service life is extended.
Apart from that you not only save good money, but also the
cumbersome carrying of heavy water bottles, when you use BWT
as potable water.
Tasty water
Undesirable odours and taste-distorting substances, e.g. chlorine,
are eliminated from the water. Tea, coffee and potable water
prepared with ltered water, thanks to the Mg2+-formula, reach
their full aroma and are of better taste. Sensor tests carried out by
independent institutes conrm this.

3. Intended use 4. Efciency of the lter cartridge
The BWT water ltering system may only be operated with cold water
fullling the legal requirements made on potable water quality.
The water lter is unsuitable for the production of potable water; i. e. the
lter may not be used for treatment of contaminated water.
The BWT ltered water is intended for short-term use. It may not be exposed
to direct radiation of the sun, is to be stored in a cool place and not longer
than 24 hours. If the ltered water is kept longer than 24 hours in the water
ltering system, white marks may occur in the jug through the evaporation
of water, which can easily be removed through cleaning.
After ltering more than 3 litres subsequently, a pause of at least 15
minutes should be made.
Permanent water contact of the lter cartridge is not particularly necessary,
in order to guaranty long-term operation of the lter cartridge. The lter cart-
ridge continues to function, also if it was taken out of the water for some time.
If from the ofcial side you are requested, to boil the tap water due to
contamination with germs, this also applies to BWT ltered water. When
the authorities classify the tap water again as harmless and release it for
consumption, the lter cartridge must in any case be changed. The water
ltering system is to be cleaned (see chapter 6.1 and 8).
For certain groups of people, e.g. persons with limited immune defence and
for the preparation of baby food, the BWT ltered water is to be boiled.
For hygienic reasons the lter cartridge contains small quantities of silver, in
order to suppress the growth of germs. A small quantity of silver may be given
off to the water. It is harmless and in compliance with the corresponding re-
commendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) for potable water.
The lter cartridge shall be replaced at least 4 weeks after its rst use.
Appliance for the treatment of drinking water.
Important: this appliance requires regular periodic maintenance in order to
guarantee the requisites of the drinkability of the water treated and that the
improvements as declared by the manufacturer are maintained.
The service life of the lter cartridge varies according to the place of applica-
tion, as the quality of water is not everywhere the same. The capacity of the
lter cartridge compared to the retained hardness depends on the hardness of
the water. The harder the water, the earlier the lter cartridge will be exhausted.

The mentioned substances, e.g. lead and copper, which are reduced by the
lter, are not always contained in potable water.
The water lter fulls the microbiological requirements made on water lters
according to DIN 10521. The requirements according to DIN 10521 made on
chlorine, lead and copper retention are fullled.

6. Handling Instructions
6.1 Initial operation and lter cartridge change
Prior to the rst use or change of the exhausted lter cartridge clean jug, funnel
and lid of the BWT water ltering system with mild soapy water and rinse
thoroughly with warm water. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents or scrub-
bing sponges, as scratch marks could be left on the BWT water ltering system.
Jug and funnel can be washed in the dishwasher. The lid may not be washed in
the dishwasher.
In order to achieve best possible ltration performance, we recommend you to
put the new lter cartridge in tap water for 5 minutes. After that please discard
the water.
Subsequently insert the new lter cartridge into the funnel of the water ltering
system by pressing it in lightly.
If the BWT water ltering system is equipped with the automatic lling system
„Easy-Fill“ in the lid, it is not necessary to take off the lid when lling the jug.
The „Easy-Fill“ system opens automatically, when the water jet meets the open-
ing and closes automatically after lling. If the BWT water ltering system does
not have an opening in the lid, the lid must be removed. BWT recommends you
to close the lid after lling.
Discard the rst ltered water lling and rell the BWT water ltering system.
Fine black particles of activated carbon could be ushed out, which are,
how ever, completely harmless. In this case we recommend to rell the jug and
discard the water again until it is clear and free from particles.
The BWT water ltering system is now ready for use.

6.2 Electronic exchange indicator „Easy-Control“
The „Easy-Control“ counts the number of
llings and the service life and reminds you
of the lter cartridge change by ashing
in the display. If the lter cartridge is not
changed, the „Easy-Control“ counts the
following llings. By lling or by pressing
the „Easy-Control“ button once, the current
number of llings is shown.
In the electronic exchange indicator an

Please observe that the „Easy-Control“ indicates the number of llings (the volume of
the funnel varies depending on the BWT water ltering system) and not the ltered
number of litres. See the above table.
A change of the lter cartridge should be carried out at the latest after 4 weeks, also if
the capacity (number of llings) of the lter cartridge has not yet been reached. This is
indicated by ashing of the „Easy-Control“ display.
The „Easy-Control“ is designed for a service life of 3.5 years.
In the event of your „Easy-Control“ being defective, please contact our service team.
We will be happy to replace the cover for you.

Using manual exchange indicator the date
for the next lter cartridge change can be
set. The lter cartridge should be changed
at least every 4 weeks, even if the capacity
of the lter is not exhausted.

6.3 Manual exchange indicator
Putting into operation:
Press the push button for 5 seconds. The indication then
automatically adjusts to „0“ and the „Easy-Control“ is now
ready for operation.
Counting function:
Each lling of the BWT water ltering system is counted by
means of the „Easy-Control“.
Filter cartridge change:
The display starts ashing if either the maximum number of
llings or the maximum period of use is exceeded
(depending on what happens rst). Now a change of the
lter cartridge becomes necessary. After inserting the cart-
ridge, please keep the push button pressed for 5 seconds.
The counter then automatically adjusts to „0“.
Safety function:
In order to guarantee correct counting, the „Easy-Control“,
after each lling, makes a counting pause of 15 seconds.
Even if during this time the „Easy ll“ is opened for several
times, recording of the llings is correct.

7. Utilisation and service life
7.1 Recommendations on the frequency of lter
cartridge/lter material change
 Optimal water is only guaranteed if the lter cartridge is changed regularly,
ideally every 4 weeks. The BWT water ltering system is equipped with a manual
or electronic exchange indicator, which indicates when the lter cartridge should
be changed. (Operation see chapter 6).
7.2 Instructions on interruption of use
 If use is interrupted, please keep the water ltering system together with the
cartridge in the fridge.
 In case of interruption of use of more than 2 days (weekends), pour out the rst
lling and rell the water lter.
 After a downtime of more than 2 weeks, replace the lter cartridge
(see chapter 6.1).
8. Care & cleaning of the bwt water filtering system
 Clean the BWT water lter system once a week with mild soapy water and rinse
thoroughly with warm water. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents or scrub-
bing sponges, as scratch marks could be left on the water ltering system. Jug and
funnel can be washed in the dishwasher.
 During use of the BWT water ltering system lime stains may occur in particular
on the lid of the BWT water ltering system through dried water drops. The lime
stains can be removed with a commercially available decalcication agent.
 The lid including the „Easy-Control“ may not be cleaned in the dishwasher.
100 % product safety – BWT recommends: BWT recommends boiling the lter
cartridge once a week for hygiene reasons.
9. Proper storage of the lter cartridge
 Spare lter cartridges should always be kept in the original packing foil until the
lter cartridge is changed.
 Spare lter cartridges are to be stored in a cool and dry place and may not be
exposed to direct sunlight.
10. Recommendation as regards disposal
Always observe the local waste disposal regulations!
Filter cartridges and lter lling: Exhausted lter cartridges are disposed of with
your household waste.
Packing material: Foils and cardboard packing are - if locally possible - disposed
of according to the system of waste separation. This way you make a substantial
contribution to environmental conservation.
Water ltering system: The water ltering system is - if locally possible - disposed
of according to the system of waste separation. This way you make a substantial
contribution to environmental conservation.
The exchange indicator „Easy-Control“ is an electronic com-
ponent, which is to be disposed of according to the locally
applicable regulations and legal provisions. The exchange
indicator can be removed from the lid by means of a
screwdriver, which is put under the rim of the „Easy-Control“.
The „Easy-Control“ may only be removed from the lid for
reasons of disposal.
