Introduction

Use of the Site Preparation Guide
Introduction
This document contains important information for the installation and safe use of the Arizona
1300 printer.
Read this information carefully, and in case of questions please contact your Canon
representative.
At the end of this document the checklist should be filled out and signed for by the customer.
This is to safeguard that all relevant (safety) information has been understood and necessary
requirements for the installation have been met. Also the actions agreed upon with the customer
should be filled in.
The Site preparation Survey is important to safeguard that we have informed the customer of all
relevant safety and environmental aspects. Therefore the Site Preparation Survey is obliged
before every installation!
You should store a copy of this signed checklist at the local NSO back office.

Information

Flatbed Printer
Arizona 1300 GT or XT flatbed inkjet printers consist of a vacuum table, a moving gantry, and a
podium with the user interface display. The Arizona 1300 XT printer has a larger vacuum table
than the GT printers.

Roll Media Option
A Roll Media Option (RMO) is available for the printers allowing the use of media that is supplied
on a roll. This optional unit is crated and shipped separately. Once the RMO is installed, it shares
the print gantry with the base configuration.

Ink and Flush Safety
The safety measures involved with the handling and use of the UV ink and Flush are detailed in
the material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) documents. You should review them before handling any
UV ink or flush. The MSDS for all UV inks and Flush are available from the corporate Downloads
website.

Personal Safety
The operator must wear approved nitrile gloves, a protective apron, and safety glasses with side
shields when handling inks. Read and practice safety guidelines as outlined in the MSDS for each
ink. Post these documents in the work area as required by prevailing law. MSDS are provided
with all inks and flush when you purchase them.
CAUTION
chemicals in UV ink begin to permeate standard nitrile gloves in less than 10 minutes, we
therefore recommend the use of Microflex gloves, these have an extended protection of 1 hr.
The time to chemical breakthrough starts from the moment of first exposure. Gloves should be
replaced within this time and not reused. The penetrating chemicals have no pigment so they
are not visibly seen; therefore just because you don’t have pigment on your skin doesn’t mean
that exposure has not occurred.
Latex gloves may appear to be robust but provide no protection at all. Latex gloves also stop
UV pigment penetration however they allow the invisible harmful chemicals to pass through
very quickly, where they are trapped next to the skin, increasing contact and associated risk.
Disposal of UV Ink
All waste containing uncured or partly cured UV ink is hazardous and must be disposed of
separately according to local regulations. Do not mix ink waste with non-hazardous waste
(household, office, etc.). Do not allow it to reach sewage systems or drinking water supplies. Ink
waste includes contaminated cloths, gloves, swabs and any other material containing uncured or
partly cured UV ink.

UV Light Safety
UV Light Emissions can be harmful: Protective measures are essential in the workplace. Use the
UV safety glasses with side shields supplied with the printer. Wear appropriate clothing that
protects the skin from UV light exposure. Keep a distance of at least 1 m (3 ft.) from LED UV units
while printing.
Wear Industrial Protective Eyewear with lenses that block both UVA and UVB and are CSA and
ANSI approved. Gloves and long-sleeved work clothes are essential to reduce the skin's exposure
to UV emissions.
Warning for seated individuals: UV emissions are highest at a height of 90 cm (35 inches) above
the floor. This can be an issue for individuals seated near the printer. Remove all chairs within 5
meters (16 feet) of the printer.

Chapter 3
Shipping & Handling

Introduction
All items are shipped in wooden crates. Due to the delicate nature of the contents it is essential to
have the proper equipment available for handling and moving the shipping crates. Packed in its
crate, the equipment can withstand normal vibrations from road or air travel. Severe shock,
however, may damage the precision components within the machine. The shipping crate is fitted
with shock watches that turn from white to red when their specified limits have been exceeded.
Tamper-proof seals are also added to ensure the crate has not been opened and the contents
interfered with. All equipment must be un-crated by a qualified service engineer. Ramps are
provided so the larger pieces of equipment can be rolled down from the crate to the floor.

Weight Distribution:
•Even for length of the crate
•Uneven for width - front of crate is heavier by a 60/40 ratio
Forklift Access:
• Long side (lift from indicated side only) - fork length minimum of 1.45 meter (57 inches)
• Short side (lift from either side) - fork length minimum of 3.3 m (130 inches)
Pallet Jacks: The crate can be transported for a short distance using 2 standard pallet jacks.
IMPORTANT
The GT crate must not be tilted greater than 45 degrees.

Un-Crating Requirements
Tools Needed:
• Impact drill with 1/2" socket - 13mm socket/ratchet will be sufficient for unbolting
• Drill with "Philips" cross bit for unscrewing securing brackets inside the crate
• Utility knife for cutting plastic straps and opening boxes
Space Required:
6.5m x 5m (21.3ft x 16.4ft)
Space Requirements for Un-crating the Arizona 1300 GT printers
IMPORTANT
The Arizona 1300 GT printers have two cross-brace struts on their base frame. If a strut is bent
during installation, it must be replaced.
Facility Requirements
To install the GT printer, the customer's facility should meet the following requirements:
Hallway width (Minimum): 2.07m (81.5") - This allows for approximately 75mm or 3" of total
clearance.
Door opening (Minimum): 1.67m (66")
NOTE
The printer will be able to fit through the minimum opening assuming there is adequate space
on either side of the door to negotiate it through. A panel on the printer can be removed to
facilitate this operation in situations where the doorway is less than the width of the printer (see
dotted line in Figure 4).
The illustration below will assist you to determine whether the printer can fit through a doorway
or negotiate turns in a corridor. This image is also available on our web site and can be used with
a scale model of your facility to ensure that you can accommodate the printer.

[2] Printer Dimensions
Tilt-n-Go for Arizona 1300 GT Printers
Some buildings have limited access points that restrict entry for the Arizona 1300 GT printers. To
meet this challenge, Canon has developed a special lifting/Tilting tool.
The Tilt-N-Go is a special lifting tool designed to tilt the printer on its side for access through
narrow doorways. No printer modifications are required in order to use the Tilt-N-Go. Some parts
must be removed to prevent damage and then the large brackets can be attached on each side.
These brackets are joined to the lifting assemblies and allow the installers to lift and rotate the
printer so it can be moved through smaller spaces.
NOTE
Tilt-n-Go is available only for Arizona 1300 GT printers,
NOT available for the Arizona 1300 XT printers
Minimum Access Dimensions
When rotated on the Tilt-n-Go, the Arizona 1300 GT printer will fit through a hallway/doorway
with these dimensions or larger:
