IntroductionIntroduction
The DM-TX-201-C provides a simple interface solution for computers and other
high-resolution AV sources as part of a complete DigitalMedia™ system. With both
HDMI®and RGB inputs, the DM-TX-201-C is ideal for use at a lectern, conference
table, wall plate, or any remote location in a boardroom, classroom, or residence to
provide an input for a laptop computer, DVD player, or similar source. It connects to
the head end or display location using a single CAT5e or Crestron®DM 8G™ cable.

DigitalMedia 8G+
DigitalMedia 8G provides a true one-wire transport for moving high-definition
video, audio, and Ethernet over low-cost twisted pair cable without compression or
repeaters. One eight-conductor twisted pair cable (sold separately) is required,
supporting distances up to 330 feet (100 meters) using Crestron DM 8G cable or
CAT5e.1
DigitalMedia manages all of the various AV signals and devices in your system,
matching each source’s output to the capabilities of the selected display(s). Every
signal is preserved in its native video resolution and audio format, ensuring a pure,
lossless signal path throughout.
Multimedia Computer/AV Interface
The DM-TX-201-C provides simple switching between two inputs. Its HDMI input
supports HDCP and handles WUXGA computer resolutions and 1080p60 HDTV
with multi-channel lossless audio. The HDMI input can also handle DVI and
DisplayPort Multimode signals using an appropriate adapter or dongle.2The RGB
input handles analog RGB and VGA signals up to WUXGA 1920 x 1200 pixels as
well as analog video up to 1080p60.3A mini-TRS stereo audio input is also provided
to accept analog audio signals from an unbalanced line level or headphone output.
A single cable connects the DM-TX-201-C to a DM switcher or receiver,
transporting video, audio, control, networking, and power signals through one
RJ-45 connection.1, 4 Used with a single DM 8G+ receiver/room controller and
optional Crestron control system (both sold separately), the DM-TX-201-C
extends a multimedia computer or AV signal to a single display up to 330 feet
(100 meters) away.1As part of a larger system using a DM switcher (sold
separately), multiple DM-TX-201-Cs may be installed to enable the distribution of
several sources at different locations to feed multiple displays throughout any room
or larger facility.
In addition to its DM output, there is also an HDMI output provided to feed a local
HDMI or DVI monitor, eliminating the need for an extra outboard distribution amp
or other hardware.

LAN Connectivity
Along with high-definition AV and control, DigitalMedia also integrates high-speed
Ethernet networking for a total signal distribution solution. The DM-TX-201-C
includes a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet port, providing a convenient LAN
connection for a local network device.
Keyboard/Mouse Extender
The DM-TX-201-C also functions as a keyboard/mouse extender, providing a USB
port that connects to the source device (i.e., computer or other USB HID compliant
host device), allowing it to be controlled by a mouse or keyboard in another room or
at a presentation lectern, conference table, or some other remote location.
EDID Format Management
The DM-TX-201-C allows for management of the EDID (Extended Display
Identification Data) information that passes between the display devices and input
sources in the system. Using Crestron Toolbox™ software, the format and resolution
capabilities of each device can be assessed and managed through the DM-TX-201-C,
ensuring reliable operation by instructing sources to output only the resolutions and
formats that can be handled by the displays and system wiring.
CEC Embedded Device Control
The primary objective of every Crestron system is to enable precisely the control
desired for a seamless user experience. DigitalMedia provides an alternative to
conventional IR and RS-232 device control by harnessing the CEC (Consumer
Electronics Control) signal embedded in HDMI. Through its connection to the
control system, the DM-TX-201-C provides a gateway for controlling the connected
source device through the HDMI connection, potentially eliminating the need for any
dedicated control wires or IR probes. Through proper CEC signal management,
DigitalMedia allows you to take control of each device in the system as you like.
Compact and Versatile
The DM-TX-201-C can be mounted on a flat surface or placed on a shelf. It is
compact enough to fit discreetly inside a presentation lectern or beneath a table,
and can even be attached to a rack rail in the back of an equipment cabinet. An array
of indicators on the DM-TX-201-C provides for easy setup and troubleshooting.
Digital Upgrade for Legacy Systems
The DM-TX-201-C affords a perfect signal converter for integrating DigitalMedia
with analog-based systems such as Crestron MPS, QuickMedia®, and the
CEN-RGBHV series (all sold separately). An HD15 VGA cable connected between
the output of an MPS system and the input of the DM-TX-201-C allows every RGB,
component, S-video, and composite video input on the MPS to be converted to
DigitalMedia.* Analog audio is converted similarly through an unbalanced stereo
audio cable. The DM-TX-201-C’s HDMI input may also be used to expand the input
capabilities of the MPS system to handle digital AV sources.

type of application, the DM-TX-201-C is used with a DM 8G+ receiver/room
controller such as the DM-RMC-100-C and is not used with a DM switcher.

1. HDMI requires an appropriate adapter or interface cable to accommodate a DVI or DisplayPort
Multimode signal. CBL-HD-DVI interface cable sold separately.
2. The RGB input can accept component, composite, and S-video signals via direct interface to Crestron
MPS Series products (sold separately) or through an appropriate adapter (not included). Input sync
detection is not provided for composite or S-video signal types through the RGB connection.

facing away from you, with the clip down and copper side up. Pin 1 is on the far left.

5. The DM OUT port consists of one RJ-45 connector. Refer to the following table for the
connector pinouts.

6. Power over DM requires connection to a DM 8G+ power sourcing device.
7. For DM 8G+ wiring up to 330 feet (100 meters) between devices, use Crestron DM-CBL-8G
DigitalMedia 8G cable, Crestron DM-CBL DigitalMedia cable, Crestron DM-CBL-D DigitalMedia D
cable, or generic CAT5e (or better) UTP or STP. Shielded cable and connectors are recommended to
safeguard against unpredictable environmental electrical noise which may impact performance at
resolutions above 1080p. Refer to the latest version of the Crestron DigitalMedia Infrastructure Guide
(Doc. 4556) for complete wiring guidelines and to the Crestron DigitalMedia Design Guide (Doc.

Setup
Network Wiring
When wiring the DM network, consider the following:
• Use Crestron Certified Wire.
• Use Crestron power supplies for Crestron equipment.
CAUTION: Failure to use Crestron power supplies could cause equipment
damage or void the Crestron warranty.
• Provide sufficient power to the system.
• For DM 8G+ wiring up to 330 feet (100 meters) between devices, use
Crestron DM-CBL-8G DigitalMedia 8G cable, Crestron DM-CBL
DigitalMedia cable, Crestron DM-CBL-D DigitalMedia D cable, or generic
CAT5e (or better) UTP or STP. Shielded cable and connectors are
recommended to safeguard against unpredictable environmental electrical
noise which may impact performance at resolutions above 1080p. Refer to
the latest version of the Crestron DigitalMedia Infrastructure Guide (Doc.

The DM-TX-201-C also uses high-speed Ethernet for communications between the
device and a control system, computer, media server, and other IP-based devices. For
general information on connecting Ethernet devices in a Crestron system, refer to the
latest version of the Crestron e-Control®Reference Guide (Doc. 6052), which is
available from the Crestron Web site (www.crestron.com/manuals). For information
specifically related to Ethernet connectivity using DigitalMedia devices, refer to the
latest version of the Crestron IP Considerations Guide for the IT Professional (Doc.
4579), which is also available from the Crestron Web site
(www.crestron.com/dmresources).
Identity Code
NOTE: In the SIMPL Windows program, when the DM-TX-201-C is dropped onto
an input card of a DM switcher, its IP ID is assigned automatically and does not
require additional programming or configuration. Use the information below when
the DM-TX-201-C is dropped directly into an Ethernet slot on the control system in
SIMPL Windows without a DM switcher.
The IP ID is set within the DM-TX-201-C IP table using Crestron Toolbox.
For information on setting an IP table, refer to the Crestron Toolbox help file. The IP
IDs of multiple DM-TX-201-C devices in the same system must be unique.
When setting the IP ID, consider the following:
• The IP ID of each unit must match an IP ID specified in the SIMPL
Windows program.
• Each device using IP to communicate with a control system must have a
unique IP ID.

Installation
To prevent overheating, do not operate this product an area that exceeds the
environmental temperature range listed in the table of specifications.
The DM-TX-201-C mounts on a flat surface such as a wall or ceiling.
The DM-TX-201-C can also be mounted on a rack rail.
Mounting on a Flat Surface To mount the DM-TX-201-C on a flat surface such as a wall or ceiling, use four
mounting screws (not included). The following illustration shows mounting of the
