2 Basic safety instructions
2.1 Requirements for personnel
‣Installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the measuring system must only
be carried out by trained technical personnel.
‣The technical personnel must be authorized to perform the tasks by the owner-operator.
‣The electrical connection may only be established by an electrical technician.
‣The technical personnel must have read and understood these Operating Instructions and
must follow the instructions they contain.
‣Faults at the measuring point may only be rectified by authorized and properly trained
personnel.
Repairs not described in the enclosed Operating Instructions may only be carried out
directly at the manufacturer's or by the Service Organization.
2.2 Designated use
2.2.1 Non-hazardous atmosphere
Liquiline CM44xR is a multichannel controller for connecting digital sensors with Memosens
technology in non-hazardous locations.
The device is designed for use in the following applications:
• Food and beverages
•Lifescience
• Water and wastewater
• Chemical industry
2.2.2 Non-designated use and misuse
NOTICE
Objects placed on the housing
Can cause short-circuits or fire. Failure of individual cabinet components or the entire
measuring point possible.
‣Never place any objects, such as tools, cables, paper, food, liquid containers or similar, on the
housing.
‣Always comply with the specifications of the provider as regards fire safety (smoking) and
the handling of foodstuffs (beverages).
If the device is used for any purpose other than that described, this poses a threat to the safety
of people and the entire measuring system and is thus not permitted.
The manufacturer does not accept liability for damage caused by improper or non-designated
use.

2.2.3 Installation environment
The device and associated power units can be operated with 24 V AC, 24 V DC or 100 to 230 V
AC and provide shock protection as per the IP20 rating. The components have been designed for
Pollution Degree 2. Condensation should not form on the components. For this reason the
components must be installed in a way that they are protected by an appropriate protective
enclosure. Compliance with the ambient conditions specified in the manual is mandatory.
2.3 Occupational safety
As the user, you are responsible for observing the following safety regulations:
• Installation guidelines
• Local standards and regulations
Electromagnetic compatibility
This device has been tested for electromagnetic compatibility in accordance with the applicable
European standards for industrial applications.
The electromagnetic compatibility indicated only applies to a device that has been connected in
accordance with the instructions in
these Operating Instructions.
2.4 Operational safety
‣Prior to commissioning the entire measuring point, check that all connections are correct.
Make sure that electric cables and hose connections are not damaged.
‣Do not commission damaged products. Protect them against unintentional startup. Label
and identify the damaged product as defective.
‣If the faults cannot be eliminated, take the products out of service and protect them against
unintentional startup.
CAUTION
!
The cleaning system is not switched off during calibration or maintenance activities

‣If a cleaning system is connected, switch it off before removing a sensor from the medium.
‣If you are not switching off the cleaning system because you wish to test the cleaning
function, wear protective clothing, goggles and gloves or take other appropriate measures.
2.5 Product safety
The transmitter is designed to meet state-of-the-art safety requirements, has been tested and
left the factory in a condition in which it is safe to operate.
The applicable regulations and European standards have been taken into account.

• Inputs are assigned to measuring channels in the
ascending order of the slots and ports.
Adjacent example:
"CH1: 1:1 pH glass" means:
Channel 1 (CH1) is slot 1 (basic module) : Port 1
(input 1), pH glass sensor
• The outputs and relays are named after their
function, e.g. "Current output", and are displayed in
ascending order with the slot and port numbers

4 Incoming acceptance and product identification
4.1 Incoming acceptance
1. Make sure the packaging is not damaged.
Inform your supplier of any damage to the packaging.
Please keep the damaged packaging until any issues have been resolved.
2. Make sure the contents are not damaged.
Inform your supplier of any damage to the contents.
Please keep the damaged goods until any issues have been resolved.
3. Check that the delivery is complete and nothing is missing.
Compare the scope of delivery against the delivery papers and your order.
4. Pack the product in such a way as to protect it reliably against impact and moisture for
storage and transportation.
Optimum protection is provided by the original packaging materials.
The permitted ambient conditions must be observed (see Technical data).
If you have any queries, contact your supplier or local sales center.
4.2 Product identification
4.2.1 Nameplate
Nameplates can be found:
• On the outside of the DIN rail housing
• On the inside of the insert modules
• On the packaging (adhesive label, portrait format)
• On the back of the external display (covered over when installed)
The nameplate provides you with the following information on your device:
• Manufacturer identification
•Ordercode
• Extended order code
• Serial number
•Firmwareversion
• Input and output values
• Protection class
•Environment
• Activation codes
• Safety notices and warnings
Compare the data on the nameplate with your order.

With this declaration, the manufacturer guarantees that the product conforms to the
regulations of European Directive 2004/108/EC and Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC. This
is proven by observing the standards listed in the Declaration of Conformity.

5 Installation
5.1 Installation conditions
5.1.1 DIN rail mounting
CAUTION
!
Power unit can become very hot at maximum load
Risk of burns
‣Avoid touching the power unit during operation.
‣Make sure to maintain the minimum distances to other devices.
‣After switching off the power unit, wait until it cools down before you start performing work
on it.

Impermissible condensation on the device
User's safety at risk
‣The device offers shock protection as per the IP20 rating. Condensation should not be
allowed to form on the device.
‣Comply with the specified ambient conditions by installing the device in an appropriate
protective enclosure, for example.
NOTICE
Incorrect mounting location in cabinet, safety distances not observed
Possible failure as a result of heat generation, interference from neighboring devices
‣Do not position the device directly above sources of heat. Comply with temperature
specifications.
‣The components are designed for convection-based cooling. Avoid heat build-up and ensure
openings are not covered over (by cables, for instances).
‣Make sure to maintain the specified distances to other devices.
‣Physically separate the device from frequency converters and high-voltage instruments.
‣Recommended installation direction: horizontal. The specified ambient conditions, and
particularly the ambient temperatures, only apply for this orientation.
‣A vertical alignment is possible. For this, however, you must provide additional fixing clamps
at the point of installation to hold the device in position on the DIN rail.
‣Recommended installation position of the power unit on CM444R and CM448R devices: to
the left of the device.
The following minimum spacing must be observed:
• Distances at the side in relation to other devices incl. power units and to the wall of the
cabinet:
At least 20 mm (0.79 inch)
• Above and below the device and with regard to the depth of the device (in relation to the
cabinet door or other devices installed there):
At least 50 mm (1.79 inch)

5.1.4 External display
The mounting plate also acts as the drilling template. The marks at the side help you mark
out the position for the drill holes.

5.2 Mounting the measuring device
5.2.1 DIN rail mounting
Mounting is the same for all the devices. CM448R is shown in the example.
When the device is delivered, the retainer slides to secure the DIN rail are "tightened".
1. Release the retainer slides by pulling them down.
2. Attach the device to the DIN rail (a) from above and then press it down (b).
3. Push up the retainer slides until you hear a click in order to fix the device in place on the DIN
rail.
Only CM444R and CM448R
4. Mount the external power unit in the same way.

5.2.2 Wall mounting
Mounting material (screws, wall plugs) are not included in the delivery and must be
provided by the client.
CM444R and CM448R: The external power unit can only be mounted on a DIN rail.
Use the back of the housing to mark the drill holes for mounting (→å6).
1. Drill the holes and insert wall plugs where necessary.
2. Screw the housing onto the wall.
5.2.3 Mounting the optional, external display
CAUTION
!
Sharp, rough drill holes that have not been deburred
Risk of injury. Damage to display cable possible.
‣Deburr the middle drill hole for the display cable in particular.

Mounting the display on the door of the cabinet
Use the mounting plate as the drilling template for this
purpose. You also need a pen to mark the drill holes, a ruler
and a drill.
1. Hold the mounting plate by the turned-up holding clip
against the cabinet door from the outside. Select where
you want to install the display.
2. Mark all the points.
3. Draw lines with a ruler to connect the marks.
This gives you the position of the 5 drill holes
needed for the installation.
4. Drill the holes (→å7).
5. Pull the display cable through the central drill hole and
insert the display, along with the Torx screws, through
the 4 holes drilled for the screws. The Torx screws must
be unscrewed as far as the last half screw twist (but
must still be in the holes).
6. Connect the display cable to the RJ-45 socket of the
basic module.
7. Fit the mounting plate on the screws on the inside,
push down the plate and tighten the screws.
8. Bend back the holding clip again to avoid any injury.
The display is now mounted and ready for
operation.

5.3 Post-installation check
1. After mounting, check all the devices (controller, power unit, display) for damage.
2. Check whether the specified mounting distances have been observed.
3. Make sure that the retainer slides are all engaged correctly and that the components are
securely positioned on the DIN rail.
4. Make sure that the temperature limits at the mounting location are observed.

Installation errors
Damage to cable, for instance, or malfunctions
‣Route cables in such a way that they cannot be
squashed in any way, e.g. when the cabinet door is
closed.
‣Make sure that the display cable is actually plugged
into the RJ45 socket of the basic module and not, for
example, into the ethernet socket of the (optional)
module 485 as otherwise your display will not work.

Improper cable routing
Damage to cable as a result of poor strain relief, interference on signal cables
‣Route all cables through the cable ducts of the cabinet to the terminals.
‣Route signal cables to the terminals separately from live cables.
