Notes to the Operations Man-
ual
These operating instructions contain important in-
formation on operating the machine safely, properly
and economically. They are intended for use by:
• The operator
• Operating staff
• Maintenance staff
• Auxiliary staff
These operating instructions describe how to oper-
ate and maintain the machine. They are not a train-
ing manual.
Follow all applicable safety regulations and recom-
mendations in this manual as appropriate to your
machine and the situation /conditions prevailing at
the time. Read this manual carefully to learn how to
operate and maintain your machine correctly. Fail-
ure to do so could result in personal injury or equip-
ment damage.
Units
Within this operations manual, metric measure-
ments are shown within brackets ( ) after the US
customary units of measure and are approximate
conversions from US customary units.
Safety Information
Safety Alert Symbol
In conjunction with the text which follows it, this
safety alert symbol is used as a “safety warning
system” in these operating instructions. The safety
alert symbol indicates a risk of personal injury. Fol-
low all instructions which appear after this safety
alert symbol in order to avoid injury or potentially
fatal accidents.
Safety Notes
In the operations manuals all safety notes will cov-
er ANSI versions. These safety instructions must
be fully read and understood before carrying out
any work with, or on, the machine. Failure to do so
could result in death, personal injury or damage to
the machine. Avoid dangers by carrying out risk as-
sessments before the machine is put into operation,
or before any work is carried out on the machine, to
ensure appropriate exclusion zone measures are
put into place and site personnel safety awareness
training has been undertaken.
The machine must only be operated by trained and
skilled personnel.
California 65 Warnings
The following warning applies to equipment sup-
plied with lead-acid batteries:
Battery posts, terminals and related accesso-
ries contain lead and lead compounds, chemicals
known to the State of California to cause cancer
and reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
The following warning applies to equipment sup-
plied with diesel powered engines:
Diesel engine exhaust and some of its constituents
are know to the State of California to cause cancer,
birth defects, and other reproductive harm.

USA Federal Clean Air Act
The Federal Clean Air Act Section 203a(3) prohib-
its the removal of air pollution control devices or the
modication of an EPA certied non-road engine to
a non certied conguration. The Federal regula-
tions implementing the Clean Air Act for non-road
engines, 40 CFR 89.1003(a)(3)(i), reads as follows:
The following acts and the causing thereof are pro-
hibited:
For a person to remove or render inoperative a de-
vice or element of design installed on or in a device
or element of design installed on or in a non-road
engine vehicle or equipment in compliance with
the regulations under this part prior to its sale and
delivery to the ultimate purchaser or for a person
knowingly to remove or render inoperative such a
device or element of design after the sale and de-
livery to the ultimate purchaser.
The law prescribes a ne of up to $2,750 USD for
each violation.
An example of a prohibited modication is the re-
calibration of the fuel system so that the engine will
exceed the certied horsepower or torque.
Do not make a change to an EPA certied non-road
engine that would result in an engine that does not
match the engine conguration certied to meet the
Federal Standards.
Customer Assistance
Bomag wishes to help assure that the Emission
Control System Warranty is properly administered.
Contact the nearest Bomag regional ofce in the
event that warranty service covered under the
Emission Control System Warranty received is un-
satisfactory.
Normal Non-Road Engine Use
The maintenance instructions are based on the
assumption that this conventional machine will be
used as designated in the operator’s instruction
manual and operated only with the specied fuel
and lubrication oils.
Non-Road Engine Maintenance
This is non-road engine of conventional design and
any local dealer may perform the necessary non-
road emission control maintenance as dened in
this manual.
Bomag recommends that the purchaser use the
Service Program for the non-road engine, known
as preventative maintenance, including the recom-
mended emission control maintenance.
In order to document that the proper regular main-
tenance has been performed on the non-road en-
gine, Bomag recommends that the owner keep all
records and receipts of such maintenance. These
records or receipts should be transferred to each
subsequent purchaser of the non-road engine.
Service Performed by a Local Au-
thorized Dealer or Distributor
A local authorized dealer or distributor is best suit-
ed to give good, dependable service since he has
qualied service technicians and is equipped with
genuine original equipment manufacturer’s parts
and special tools and the latest technical publica-
tions.
Discuss servicing and maintenance requirements
with a local authorised dealer or distributor who
can recommend a Maintenance Program to suit the
machine’s working environment.

For scheduled service or maintenance, it is advis-
able to contact a local authorised dealer or dis-
tributor in advance to arrange for an appointment
to ensure availability of the correct equipment and
qualied service technician to work on the machine.
Scheduling service and maintenance reduces the
time spent servicing the machine.
Preventative Maintenance Pro-
gram
In order for the conventional non-road engine to
retain the reliability and performance parameters
such as noise level and emission levels it had when
delivered, it is essential that is receives regularly
scheduled service, inspections, adjustments and
maintenance.
Fuel System
Fuel Recommendations
The fuel used must be clean, completely distilled,
stable and noncorrosive. Distillation range, cetane
level and sulfur content are most important when
selecting fuel for optimum combustion and mini-
mum wear.
Engine working conditions and ambient tempera-
ture inuence the selection of the fuel with respect
to cold handling properties and cetane levels.
In cold weather conditions, below 0 ºC (32 ºF), the
use of lighter distillate or higher cetane level fuel is
recommended. (Final boiling point maximum 349
ºC (660 ºF) and cetane minimum 45).
In order to avoid excessive sedimentation and to
minimise the missions of sulfur dioxide, the fuel’s
sulfur content should be as low as possible. The
diesel fuels recommended for use shall meet ASTM
designation: D 975 no. 1D (C-B) or no. 2D (T-T)
with a cetane level above 42 and sulfur content not
exceeding 0.05 percent by weight.
Check for Fuel Leaks
(with the engine running at high idle):
Visually check unions and hose connections.
Check the condition of the fuel hoses
for:
• Ageing
• Cracks
• Blisters
• Scufng
• Check the condition of the fuel tank
• Drain condensation water
• Check for cracks
• Check for leaks
• Check the mounting
Check the Turbocharger
Visually check for leaks in the intake hoses and ex-
haust pipe of the turbocharger.
Product Identication Plate
The machine identication plate gives important in-
formation about the machine. The plate is located
on the rear bulkhead of the tractor.
Intended Use
This machine and its approved attachments are
designed for hot mix paver operations. Use of this
machine in any other way is prohibited and contrary
to its intended use.
Prohibited Use
Use of this product in other way than its intended
use is prohibited. The manufacturer will not be li-
able for any damage resulting from such use.
OSHA and the company prohibit the alteration or
modication with written manufacturer’s approval.
Use only factory-approved parts to service or repair
this machine.

General Safety
Most accidents involving product operation, mainte-
nance, and repair are caused by failure to observe
basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can
often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazard-
ous situations before an accident occurs. All per-
sonnel must be alert to potential hazards. All per-
sonnel should have the necessary training, skills,
and tools to perform these functions properly.

A multi-tier hazard classication system is used on
safety signs to alert you to potential injury hazards.
Hazard classications used with the safety alert
symbol indicate a specic level severity of the po-
tential hazard. Hazard classications used without
the safety alert symbol relate to property damage
and protection only.
This indicates a hazardous situation which , if not
avoided, will result in death or serious injury. The
safety alert symbol will be shown with this danger
classication.

Property Damage
This indicates a message related to property dam-
age. The safety alert symbol is not shown with this
classication.
Procedure
This indicates a procedure that must be followed
step by step for safe operation. Make sure all safety
notes have been considered before beginning the
procedure.
All hazards associated with each procedure will be
listed within the procedure. The correct hazard clas-
sication will be used for each hazard along with a
brief description of the hazard and the steps that
the person must take in order to prevent danger.
Personal Protective Equipment
Working Clothes
Tight tting working clothes with low tear resistance, tight
sleeves and without any projecting parts protect against being
caught by moving components. Never wear loose clothes, long
hair, coat tails, jewelry, pockets full of tools, or any other item
that could get caught in moving parts.
Safety Shoes
To protect against heavy falling parts and slipping on slippery
ground.
Protective Gloves
To protect the hands against excoriation, punctures or deep
injuries, against irritating and caustic substances as well as
against burns. Leather gloves when handling hot material or
where required
Safety Goggles
To protect the eyes against airborne particles and squirting
uids.
Face Protection
To protect the eyes against airborne particles and squirting
uids.
Hard Hat
To protect the head against falling parts and to protect against
injuries.
Hearing Protection
To protect hearing against excessive noise.
Respiratory Protection
NIOSH approved respirator when working in conned areas.
Inhaling, ingesting or contacting hazardous materials or fumes
may cause personal injury or illness. Conned space permits
and adequate ventilation are required.

Safety Sign Maintenance
Safety signs are designed and tted to the machine
to warn of possible dangers, and MUST be replaced
immediately if they become unreadable or lost. If the
machine is repaired and parts have been replaced
on which safety signs were xed, be sure new safety
signs are tted before the machine is put into ser-
vice. Use mild soap and water to clean safety signs
- DO NOT use solvent based cleaners, as they may
damage the safety sign material.
The illustrations under Safety Sign Pictorials dene
the graphics used on each safety decal. The graph-
ics under Safety Sign Locations illustrate the loca-
tion and give an example of each safety decal lo-
cated on your equipment. During the daily inspection
of the equipment, check that the decals are present
and in good condition.
