Meter overview
Guernsey Electricity are installing new Pay As You Go
Meters that will make it easier for you to operate and to
keep track of how much electricity you use. The Meters also
feature ‘Friendly’ periods which mean that you will not be
left without electricity during periods when top-ups aren’t
possible, for example in the middle of the night.
The
display
legends
*Number refers to the current display and always starts with 1.8. For details
see display legend on the front of the meter. E.g. 1.8.8 = Usage Cost p/hr.

Pressing the green button ecycles through the
display. For information on your last payment
press repeatedly until you see the date appear.
Adding credit to
the meter
To add credit simply hold your
charged card against the meter
as indicated.
First beep
The meter has started reading
the card. Please KEEP holding
the card in front of the meter.
Double Beep
The meter has finished reading
the card, you can now remove
it and view your credit on the
display.
If the meter makes a long beep
it has failed to read the card.
Please remove your card, wait a
few seconds and then try again.
The display
The meter display alternates between:
• the current rate and the balance reading
• and emergency credit, if activated.
When displaying the balance the meter shows if you are:

Emergency credit
You can activate the Emergency Credit (£2.00) when the credit
shown on the meter is below £1.00.
Emergency credit is available if the orange E/Credit light u
is flashing.
To activate Emergency credit just press the button

bottom of the meter, if the credit is below £0.00 the supply
will be reconnected. The meter display will alternate between
the Credit Balance - BAL
and remaining Emergency
Credit --1 available before
disconnection.
Once the Emergency credit
has been used up, the entire
balance due will have to be
repaid before your supply can
be reconnected.
‘Friendly’ periods
The meter is designed not to disconnect at times when it is not
possible for you to top up your card. So, if your credit runs out
at an unsociable hour we will be ‘Friendly’ and the supply will
remain on but accumulate a debt which will need to be repaid
during the next ‘TOP-UP TIME’. If you do not put some credit on
your meter at the next ‘TOP-UP TIME’ your supply is likely to go off.

Where to buy credit
You can buy top-ups at the outlets listed on the reverse
of this leaflet. You can also call us on 200700 or go to
www.electricity.gg for the latest information.
Lost Card
Should you lose your card, please call in to Guernsey Electricity
on the Bridge to arrange for a replacement. Repeated losses
may result in a small charge.
