The reference should meet the requirements as follows:
a) The debug platform should be in horizontal, the error is less than 5′
b) The centre of debug clamp is 5m from the wall, is 2.8m from plumb up dot and is 1m from plumb down
dot.
c) The angle between outmost two reference dots of the horizontal line and the checked instrument is more
than 90°.
d) The angle between outmost two reference dots of the vertical line and the checked instrument is more
than 90°, beyond plumb up dot.
e) The accuracy of the reference is not less than 0.05mm/m.
f) Put the adjacent light ruler to the right front of the adjusting platform, the”0”position
Of the adjacent light ruler should be consistent with the horizontal reference”0”position.
2.2 Sort of the error and calibration methods
2.2.1 Parallel error
The laser line is a bit windage to the reference line, and the values of both sides of laser line is coincident
with the reference line, this error is parallel error.
Figure 2
2.2.1.1 Calibration of parallel error of horizontal laser line
1)Put the instrument on the reference platform. Unlock the instrument, power on all laser indicators.
2)Rotate main unit, let the vertical laser line V1 coincident with the reference line roughly
3)Observe the locations of the horizontal laser line and reference line on the wall. If the horizontal laser line
Service Manual FL 40-CrossPointer SP
4
and the horizontal reference line are parallel, i.e. parallel error, please calibrate as the follow methods:
Note: observe whether there is error between the horizontal laser line and the adjacent light ruler reference.
If there is error, please calculate the error into the reference on the wall. (if the adjacent light ruler laser line
locates on +2, the laser line on wall reference locates on +2 too, it means the laser line is in horizontal in this
direction, there is no need calibration.)
2.2.1.1.1 If the excursion is not more than 10mm, adjust the adjusting screw in two self check hole on point A
on the housing of the instrument (figure 3), make the horizontal laser line is coincident with the reference
line.
Figure 3
2.2.1.1.2 If the excursion is more than 3mm, disassemble the housing parts, disassemble the screws at B
(figure 3),add weight stack(when horizontal line is lower than the reference),remove the weight stack
(when the horizontal line is higher than the reference), keep the horizontal line in a distance range of 10mm
to the reference line, and adjust 3 fine adjusting screw at C finally to make the horizontal line superposition
with the reference line.
2.2.2 Gradient error
As showed in Fifure 4, the laser line is incline to the reference line, this kind of error called gradient error
Service Manual FL 40-CrossPointer SP
5
Figure 4
2.2.2.1 The calibration of horizontal line gradient error
1)Put the instrument on the reference platform.Ppower on all laser indicators.
2)Rotate the unit, let the vertical laser line V approximately coincident with the reference line.
3)Observe the locations of the horizontal laser line and reference line on the wall. If the horizontal laser line
and the reference line are gradient relatively, i.e. gradient error, please calibrate as the follow methods:
2.2.2.1.1 If the excursion is not more than 3mm, adjust the adjusting screw in two self check hole on point A
on the housing of the instrument (figure 3), make the horizontal laser line coincident with the reference line.
2.2.2.1.2 If the excursion is more than 3mm, disassemble the housing parts, adjust the two screws on point
D (figure 3). When adjust the two screws on point D, it need to loosen one screw before tighten another
screw, until the horizontal laser line is coincident with the reference line. The degrees of tightness of the two
screws should be nearly the same finally.
2.2.2.2 Calibration of gradient error of vertical laser line
1)Put the instrument on the reference platform. Power on all laser indicators.
2)Rotate the upper part of the unit, let the vertical laser line V coincident with the reference line.
3)Observe the locations of the vertical laser line and reference line on the wall. If the vertical laser line and
the vertical reference line are gradient, i.e. gradient error, please calibrate as the follow methods:
Disassemble the housing parts, adjust the two screws on point E (figure 3). When adjust the two screws on
point E, it need to loosen one screw before tighten another screw, until the vertical laser line is coincident
with the vertical reference line. The degrees of tightness of the two screws should be nearly the same finally.
Service Manual FL 40-CrossPointer SP
6
2.2.3 Curving error
The laser line is curving to the reference line relatively, this error is curving error.(Figure 5)
Figure 5
2.2.3.1 Calibration of curving error of horizontal laser line
1)Put the instrument on the reference platform. Power on all laser indicators.
2)Rotate the upper part of the unit, let the vertical laser line V is coincident with the reference line
3)Observe the locations of the laser line and reference line on the wall. If the horizontal laser line and the
reference line are curving relatively, i.e. curving error, please calibrate as the follow methods:
Disassemble the housing parts firstly, adjust the two screws on point G (figure 3). When adjust the two
screws on point G, it need to loosen one screw before tighten another screw, until the horizontal laser line
icoincident with the reference line. The degrees of tightness of the two screws should be nearly the same
finally.
2.2.3.2 Calibration of curving error of vertical laser line
1)Put the instrument on the reference platform. Power on all laser indicators.
2)Rotate the unit, let the vertical laser line V is coincident with the reference line.
3)Observe the locations of the laser line and reference line on the wall. If the vertical laser line and the
vertical reference line are curving relatively, i.e. curving error, please calibrate as the follow methods:
Disassemble the housing parts at first, adjust the two screws on point F (figure 3). When adjust the two
screws on point F, it need to loosen one screw before tighten another screw, until the vertical laser line is
coincident with the vertical reference line. The degrees of tightness of the two screws should be nearly the
same finally.

3. Maintenance of alarming range
Set up the instrument on adjustable inclined block, alarming range of all sides of the instrument are not
coincident, and the relative differences between fore-and-aft and
right-and-left is bigger, it will influence your usage, then it need to
adjust again. Disassemble the housing parts when repairing, put
the instrument on the horizontal platform, loosen the two screws
(3-1)of alarming ring 2# connecting PC board (3-13). Then
move 3# connecting PC board in horizontal, make the alarming
pole of 2# alarming PC board (3-13)locate in the centre of the
alarming ring, then fasten the screws. When the
incline degree of any direction is more than 4°, it should appear
alarming if beyond the range. After finishing the adjustment,
fasten two screws of fixing circuit board, and fasten it with 706
glue water (figure 6). Figure 6

4.3.Assembly of the instrument
The assembly of the instrument is the contrary process of its disassembly. Jointing of each screw need to
rotate tightly, except for the situation that note especially.
Requirement of assembly:
a) Gelatinize 706 glue water on the jointing as follows:
The interface between base(4-5)and inserting block(4-13)
Lifting bracket(6-1)and press cover(6-21)
Fine adjusting screw M6X10(3-11)and the main unit body
b)Gelatinize 504 glue water on the jointing as follows:
Gemel part(3-3)and pendulum(3-7)
Locking ring 6(6-17)and gasket(6-18)
Vertical window glass(1-7)and housing(1-2)
