GXP-2170 has an additional connection for a side car that is not used. It is located to the side and not in the above picture.
Phone Features
Answering and Making Calls
Answering a call
There are a few buttons that you will need to take note of. You have the Green Send button and the
Orange Speaker, when pressed will pick up the call on speaker. The Headset key will pick up the call on
the headset if one is connected. Or just pick up the receiver.
The Soft Keys will change as the phone use changes. When receiving a call, you will see Answer and
Reject. Answer picks up the call (Will pick up using Speaker unless a headset is connected). Reject stops
the phone from ringing and sends the call to Voicemail.
Making a call
First of all, you do not need to dial 9 to get an outside line or dial 1 in front of a long-distance number
similar to a cell phone. If you pick up the receiver first and dial a number, you will need to press The
Send Key or Soft Key or wait a few seconds. To make it easier, dial the number before picking up the
receiver or pressing the Speaker Key. You can also press the Phonebook button and use the arrow keys
to navigate and select a contact to dial by highlighting it and pressing the Dial soft key.
Call Parks vs Hold
On the old phone systems, you had lines for each telephone number that was connected to the system.
You can place a call on hold and have someone pick up that line on another phone. With the new phone
system, because everything is digital, there are no telephone lines going into the system, only the
telephone numbers. When you place a call on hold, it will only be on hold on that phone and cannot be
picked up on the others. The Hold button does have a purpose when doing 3-way or 4-way conferencing,
but not when placing someone on hold for another to pick up elsewhere.
The Parks are for this purpose. You will notice the Park keys located on wither the right or left Line Keys.
They will be labeled Park 1, Park 2 and Park 3. You will see that the light next to it is either green or red.
When a call comes in and you need to place them on hold for another to pick up, simply press one of the
green park keys to place them in a Park Queue. The light will go red on all the phones. You can notify the
person that needs to speak with the caller by having them pick up the Park number you placed the caller
in.
When can called is placed in Park, the queue has a timer for 2 minutes. After the timer expires, the parked
caller will be forwarded back to the Ring Group and the phones will ring again. This is to keep a called
from getting stuck in a park queue indefinitely.

Voicemail
Voicemail is only enabled on extensions assigned to individual users. Common phones such as the office
or sales floor uses only the first extension for voicemail. The Voicemail messages and greeting can be
changed by pressing the Voicemail key, entering in the password/pin and following the prompts.
Default setting is for Voicemails to be sent to the email address of the assigned user or the group email
for the general mailbox. For the general, the voicemail and faxes are received using the same email
group.
Transfer/Forward a Call
While in a call, you can transfer that call to another phone or outside telephone number. There are two
types, Blind Transfer or Assisted Transfer. Blind Transfer immediately sends the call to the destination
number. Assisted Transfer allows you to speak with the person at the destination before transferring.
Blind Transfer using Speed Dial/BLF Line Keys (Busy Lamp Field)
While in call, press the Transfer Key, then scroll using the arrow keys to the page and pressing the Line
Key for the BLF you want to transfer the call to. The call will be immediately transferred.
Blind Transfer using extension or telephone number
While in call, press the Transfer Key or Soft Key, then dial the extension or telephone number. After
dialing, immediately press the Soft Key BlindTrnf
Assisted Transfer using Speed Dial/BLF Line Keys (Busy Lamp Field)
While in call, press one of the BLF Line Keys. The first call will be put on hold immediately and the
destination called. You will see that the Line Key for the first call starts to blink, there will be a second
Line Key activated for the new call. After speaking to the individual, press the hard Transfer Key and
then press the blinking Line Key for the call you want to transfer. Both parties are now connected.
Assisted Transfer using extension or telephone number
While in call, place the caller on hold using the Hold Key. Then dial the extension or telephone number
you want to transfer to. When they answer, you can speak to them, then press the hard Transfer Key
and select the first Line Key that is blinking. Both parties are now connected.
Warm Transfer (Transfer on Conference Hang-up)
While in call, press the 4-Way Call button. The dial the number/extension, press BLF Key, or select a
contact in the phonebook. When they answer, you can speak to them, then press the 4-Way Call button
and select the first Line key to connect into a conference. Once connected in the conference to you can
speak with both the caller and the person you are transferring to. You can now hang up and the they
others will continue to be connected.

In addition to using the BLF keys, you can also use entries in the phonebook.
Use 3-Way/4-Way Calling
While you are on the first call, press the 4-way call button, you will hear a dial tone. You can dial the
extension, telephone number, press the BLF Line Key or use the Phonebook. When they answer, you
will see a Soft Key named Conf. This will join all parties on the same call. You can repeat this step to add
a third call for a 4-way conference.
While in conference, you will see the callers on the screen, you will see a Soft Key called Kick. You can
use the navigation keys to arrow down to the caller you want to kick off the conference and press Kick.
Mute, Do-Not-Disturb, Volume
Mute and Do-Not-Disturb Key
While in a call, you can press the Mute Key to mute your microphone from the other party from hearing.
If you are not on a call, this button will turn the Do-Not-Disturb on and off. While in Do-Not-Disturb, the
phone will only be able to dial out, any inbound calls will not ring the phone. When Do-Not-Disturb is
enabled, you will see an icon on the screen like the below image.
Volume Key
The Volume Key will control the volume while in a call. If you are not in a call, the Volume Key will
change the volume of the ringer. BE CAREFUL, IF YOU TURN THE VOLUME ALL THE WAY DOWN, THE
PHONE WILL NOT RING.
Page Line Key
The Page Line Key if present on the phone, will broadcast to the speaker on all phones at the location. If
a phone is in use, it will not receive the page.

Call History
The phones have a Soft Key on the screen when not in use called History. This will show all the incoming
and outgoing calls. You can press History and using the Navigation Keys to scroll up and down and you
can press the Soft Key Dial to call the number.
Using the Portal
Virtual Fax
1. Visit https://portal.vergevoip.com.
2. Enter the Login Name and Password for your user account or dedicated fax user account (ex.
101@tfhc, 301@tfhc, etc.).

3. Once logged in, you will see a menu bar at the top with buttons. Take note of Fax and Contacts.
4. If you are sending a one-time fax to a number and clicked on the Fax icon. You will see a Send
Fax button at the top right corner of the screen. This will bring up the Send Fax prompt. You can
click on Fax Document to browse to the file you wish to fax (This can be a PDF, Word Document,
or picture). The you will enter the 10-digit fax number of the recipient. Once that is done, simply
click Send at the bottom left and it will send the fax.
5. If you are sending a fax to an existing contact or want to create a new contact and clicked on the
Contacts Icon, you will see Add Contact at the top right. Click on it and it will give you the
options to enter first and last name, and fax number. First and Last are required so you can put
the company name as the first and FAX as the last if it is not an individual.
The view will default to all, you can click on the drop down on the top left to select Shared (All
contacts that are entered on the admin portal will show up for all.). You can select My Contacts
and this will show any contacts that you added using the Add Contact button.

To send a fax, simply click on the number next to the contact name and the new fax dialog will
appear. Browse and select the file and click Send (This works the same as on the previous page
saving you do not have to enter in the number.)

Connecting a wired Headset
EHS (Ear, Hook, Switch) Headset
The GXP-2135 and GXP-2170 support normal RJ11 headset and Plantronics EHS headset. To use the
Plantronics EHS headset, contact us with the extension number of the phone you want it enabled on, it
has to be activated from our end. The phones are not compatible will all headsets. For a list of
compatible headsets, please use the below link for a PDF that has a list of the supported headsets. Other
Bluetooth headsets may work but is not guaranteed and at your own risk.

1. Connect the Headset to the phone. Insert headset connector into the RJ11 headset port on
the back of the phone.
2. To use headset mode, press headset button on the phone. A headset icon will
show on the status bar on the screen.
Bluetooth Headset
You can pair it by Navigating the menu to System →Bluetooth →Start Scan. Follow the directions to
complete the pairing. Bluetooth version is 2.1
To use headset mode, press headset button on the phone. A headset icon will show on the
status bar on the screen.
USB Jack
The 2170 has a USB Jack on the rear of the phone. This is for diagnostic purposes. It can however be
used to charge a Bluetooth headset when not in use. This will save from having to use an additional
power supply for charging.

Basic Troubleshooting
Phone Showing Network Down or Not Registered
Make sure that the ethernet cord that is connected to the Network Connection (See Below) is securely
connected to the Wall Jack or Switch properly. Then disconnect the Power Supply from the rear of the
phone (See Below). If there is no power supply, this is because the phone is power using PoE (Power-
over-Ethernet), in this case, disconnect the ethernet cord from the Network Connection and reconnect.
The phone is not ringing
Make sure that the Volume Key is turned up. If it is turned all the way down, the phone will not ring.
When dialing out, you do not hear the ring sound.
This can be caused by a network issue. This can be resolved by Pressing the Menu Key and Navigating to
Reboot, Pressing the Menu/Enter Key and then press the Yes Soft Key. The phone will reboot.
(On the 2135, Reboot is on the second page, on the 2170, it is on the first page)
How do I cancel "call transfer" or "conference"?
It's easy to cancel both these functions. Simply press either the 'transfer' key or 'conference' key a
second time. This will terminate the function.
BLF Line Keys are not up to date with changes.
This can be resolved by rebooting the phone. The phones do not look at the changes on the server in
real-time to conserve network resources. It polls the server periodically for changes. To force the

phone to update, it needs to be rebooted. This can be done by Pressing the Menu Key and Navigating to
Reboot, Pressing the Menu/Enter Key and then press the Yes Soft Key. The phone will reboot. Once it
reboots, it will update its Line Keys. This can take a few minutes and is not immediate.
