Description
The 46053 is a test set intended to troubleshoot communication circuits. The 46053 includes
the following features:
• Three operating modes: Talk (off-hook), Monitor (on-hook and listening), and Off
• Tone or pulse dialing

Battery Low Indication
Battery Low LED will light when the battery needs to be replaced.
High pitch, middle pitch, low pitch will sound in sequence when TALK is pressed.

Operation
TALK
Press once to select Talk mode. Press repeatedly to alternate between the Talk and Monitor
modes.
MONITOR
Press once to select Monitor mode. Press repeatedly to alternate between the Monitor mode
and off.
Note: When in the Monitor mode, the test set will monitor the line until the test set is
disconnected or until another mode is selected. The Monitor mode shuts off approximately
one minute after disconnecting.
MUTE
Press and release to stop transmitting over the line or to eliminate sidetones. Press and
release again to talk.
Dialing Features
PULSE
Pulse Dialing
Connect the 46053 to the line. Press PULSE, then press TALK to go off-hook. Press to
change to tone dialing.
Note: The 46053 will default to tone dialing after the line is disconnected.
FLASH
Flash
Press FLASH once momentarily to flash the line.

SPKR
Speaker
The loudspeaker may be used in either Monitor or Talk mode. Press once to turn on the
loudspeaker; press again to turn it off. If using the test set in the Talk mode, press to select
hands-free two-way operation.
VOL
Volume Control
Press to toggle between high and low volume.
Note: This changes the loudspeaker volume only.
LNR/PAUSE
Last Number Redial / Pause
Last Number Redial: Press LNR/PAUSE once after going off-hook to dial the most recently
called number.
Pause: Press LNR/PAUSE after any digit in a dialing sequence to insert a four-second delay.
Pauses will be repeated by the LNR function, and can be stored in memory.
MEM
Memory
Press once, then press 0–9 to dial a number stored in memory.
STO
Store
Go off-hook. Press STO and enter the telephone number. Press MEM, then press 0–9.
POL
Polarity
Used for polarity testing. See the explanation under Polarity Testing.

Polarity Testing
1. Connect the test set to the line to be tested.
2. Press POL.
•The red LED indicates reversed polarity (the red line is connected to the tip [+]).
•The green LED indicates correct polarity (the red line is connected to the ring [–]).
Ground Start Operation
1. Use the polarity testing procedure to determine which wire is the tip. Connect the test set
to the line with correct polarity.
2. Press and hold the TALK button. Momentarily connect tip to ground.
3. After hearing the dial tone, disconnect the ground.

Cleaning Instructions
Periodically wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
Do not remove the cover while the test set is connected to a
circuit.
Electric shock or damage to the test set can result.
1. Disconnect the unit from the circuit.
2. Remove the two cover screws and the cover.
3. Replace the battery or cord set as shown. Observe polarity.
4. Replace the cover and screws.

Indicación de pila baja:
El diodo emisor de luz (LED) de pila baja se enciende para indicar que la pila debe ser
reemplazada. Los tonos alto, medio y bajo sonarán en secuencia cuando se oprima TALK.

Operación
TALK (HABLAR)
Oprima una vez para seleccionar el modo Hablar. Oprima repetidamente para alternar entre los
modos Hablar y Monitorear.
MONITOR (MONITOREAR)
Oprima una vez para seleccionar el modo Monitorear. Oprima repetidamente para alternar
entre el modo Monitorear y apagado.
Aviso: Cuando se encuentre en el modo Monitorear, el aparato de prueba monitorearála línea
hasta que sea desconectado o hasta que se seleccione otro modo. El modo Monitorear se
desactiva en un lapso de un minuto después de efectuarse la desconexión.
MUTE (SILENCIADOR)
Oprima y suelte para interrumpir la transmisión a través de la línea o para eliminar tonos
laterales. Oprima y suelte nuevamente para hablar.
Funciones de marcación
PULSE
Marcación de pulso
Conecte el modelo 46053 a la línea. Oprima PULSE (Pulsar) y luego oprima TALK (Hablar)
para descolgar. Oprima para cambiar a marcación de tonos.
Aviso: El modelo 46053 conmutarápor defecto a marcación de tonos luego de que la línea
haya sido desconectada.
FLASH
Parpadeo
Oprima FLASH (Parpadeo) una vez momentáneamente para hacer parpadear la línea.

SPKR
Altavoz
El altavoz se puede utilizar tanto en el modo Monitorear como en el modo Hablar. Oprima una
vez para encender el altoparlante; oprima nuevamente para apagarlo. Si utiliza el aparato de
prueba en el modo Hablar, oprima para seleccionar la operación de manos libres de dos vías.
VOL
Control de volumen
Oprima para alternar entre el volumen alto y el volumen bajo.
Aviso: Esta acción cambiaráúnicamente el volumen del altoparlante.
LNR/PAUSE
Repetición del último número marcado/Pausa
Repetición del último número marcado: Oprima LNR/PAUSE una vez luego de descolgar para
discar el número marcado más recientemente.
Pausa: Oprima LNR/PAUSE luego de discar cualquier dígito en la secuencia de marcación para
insertar un retraso de cuatro segundos. Las pausas serán repetidas por la función LNR, y
podrán además ser almacenadas en la memoria.
MEM
Memoria
Oprima una vez y luego oprima del 0 al 9 para marcar un número almacenado en la memoria.
STO
Almacenamiento
Descuelgue la unidad. Oprima STO y marque el número de teléfono. Oprima MEM y luego
oprima del 0 al 9.
POL
Polaridad
Utilizada para pruebas de polaridad. Consulte la explicación bajo Prueba de polaridad.

Prueba de polaridad
1. Conecte el aparato de prueba a la línea que seráverificada.
2. Oprima POL.
•El diodo emisor de luz (LED) rojo indica que la polaridad es inversa (la línea roja se
encuentra conectada a la punta [+].
•El diodo emisor de luz (LED) verde indica que la polaridad es correcta (la línea roja se
encuentra conectada al timbre [–].)
Operación de arranque a tierra
1. Utilice el procedimiento de la prueba de polaridad para determinar cuál de los cables es la
punta. Conecte el aparato de prueba a la línea cuya polaridad sea correcta.
2. Oprima y mantenga oprimido en botón TALK (Hablar). Conecte momentáneamente la
punta a la puesta a tierra.
3. Luego de escuchar el tono de marcación, desconecte la puesta a tierra.

No retire la cubierta mientras el aparato de prueba se encuentre
conectado a un circuito.
De lo contrario, podría electrocutarse o dañar el aparato de prueba.
1. Desconecte la unidad del circuito.
2. Retire los dos tornillos de la cubierta y la cubierta.
3. Reemplace la pila o el juego de cables según se muestra. Fíjese en la polaridad.
4. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta y los tornillos.
