Features and Specifications.
The H-King Floater Jet is a model everyone should have, it is great
fun to fly with a fantastic performance. Very quick and easy to
assemble, you will have it built and flying in no time. When it comes
to smiles for dollars it can't be beaten, it's happy to fly around at
speed in the hands of an experienced pilot or to stooge about at a
gentle speed for the novice.
The Floater Jet has a 2200KV motor with a small 5 x 5 propeller and
a very smooth almost glossy finish to the EPO foam, this helps it
achieve high speeds and a quick acceleration. Yet due to the low
wing loading it will fly and glide very slowly if need be and gentle
landings are a breeze to achieve.

Assembly Sequence.
1. Pass the Z link of the elevator pushrod through the top
hole of the elevator control horn.
2. Apply slow setting CA glue to the rear of the fuselage
where the horizontal stabilizer sits.

3. Position the horizontal stabilizer onto the fuselage
and ensure it remains square and true to the fuselage
while the glue sets.
4. Pass the rudder pushrod Z link through the rudder control
horn. Apply slow setting CA glue into the slot in the rear of
the fuselage where the vertical stabilizer fits.

5. Feed the vertical stabilizer assembly into the slot in
the rear of the fuselage and ensure it remains true
and square while the glue sets.
6. Slide the carbon wing joining rod into the lefthand wing
as shown.

7. Slide the rod into the wing until you feel it hit the end
stop.
8. Feed the righthand wing aileron servo lead through the slot
in the fuselage so that it exits into the radio/battery compartment.
Slot the righthand wing spigots into the fuselage.

9. Now slide the carbon wing joiner that is in the lefthand
wing through the fuselage and into the righthand wing.
10. When the lefthand wing is a few centimetres from the
fuselage feed the lefthand aileron servo cable through
into the radio/battery compartment. Slide the wing fully
home whilst pulling the cable into the compartment.

11. Identify the propeller parts and select the correct
hub center.
12. Fit the propeller as shown and tighten the spinner with a
suitable tommy bar. Ensure you fit the prop the correct way
round, remember this is a pusher configuration and the front
off the propeller must face the front of the aircraft.

13. Fit the Y lead to the 2 aileron connectors in the radio/
battery compartment.
14. Loosen the grub screws on all the servo connectors

15. Connect your chosen receiver to the aileron, elevator, rudder
and ESC servo leads. Switch on your transmitter with the
throttle closed and then connect the flight battery (usually best
to temporarily remove the propeller while you do this). Center all
the servos using the transmitter then in turn move each control
surface by hand until it is in the neutral position, when the
control surface is neutral tighten the grub screw in the servo
connector. Test the motor and then refit the propeller.

Before you fly please check the center of gravity, it should
balance anywhere between 50-60mm from the leading edge of the
wing next to the fuselage. For initial flights keep it closer to the
50mm mark as this will make it more docile. Adjust the center of
gravity by moving the battery forward or aft in the battery
compartment.
Suggested Control Throws:
Ailerons: 10-12mm each way.
Elevator: 10-12mm each way.
Rudder: 13-15mm each way.

Flying the H-King Floater Jet
First thing is to double check that the center of gravity is correct and also check that the controls are
working in the correct direction. When you move your aileron control stick to the right the right
aileron should go up and the left one down. When you move the stick left the left aileron should go
up and the right one down. When you move your elevator control stick down the elevator should go
up and when you move the stick up the elevator should go down. The rudder control is
straightforward, left rudder stick is left rudder and right stick is right rudder.
Wait for a day with light winds and find a large grass area clear of tree's, wires, away from roads
and buildings and free of spectators, a helper is good to help you launch the Floater Jet. Switch on
your transmitter with the throttle closed and connect the flight battery, check the controls are
working correctly and in the right direction as above and that all control surfaces are neutral. It is
always good at this point to do a range check of your equipment to check that everything works as it
should do. Get your helper to hold your model at about waist height while you walk away working
the flying controls. It is good to check the motor as well when you are a distance away from the
model to check that it does not interfere with the radio signal and give you glitching servos. Please
make sure you warn your helper before doing this so that they keep themselves well away from the
rotating propeller.
Once satisfied everything is working as it should you are now ready to do some test gliding. Get you
helper to hold your model just above head height and facing into wind, they need to give the model
a firm throw with the nose slightly down, do not have the motor running for this exercise. The glide
should be long and flat with no tendency to turn. If it dives slightly then apply a small amount of up
trim on the transmitter and try again. If it raises its nose and gently stalls then you need to apply a
small amount of down trim. Keep doing these test glides until you get a long flat glide. If the model
has a tendency to turn left or right then apply either some aileron trim or rudder trim in the opposite
direction to the turn. Once the model is trimmed nicely do some practice launches and try doing a
gentle S turn into wind while it is gliding just to get used to the controls.
Once happy with the test gliding you should now be ready for some gentle flying with power. Once
again get your help to hold the model just above head height and into wind and when you are ready
apply some power, do not apply full power as it is not needed, half or just over is more than
sufficient. When you are ready ask your helper to launch the model, if trimmed correctly it should
climb away nice and gently with no tendency to turn. If it does try to turn use the ailerons to keep the
wings level and the model flying straight into the wind, the climb should be gentle, do not climb too
steeply or it may stall and spin or spiral into the ground. Once up to a safe height and well up wind
throttle back slightly until it stops climbing but not so much that it starts coming down. At this point
check the trim of the model, let go of the aileron and elevator stick and watch the model, any
tendency to turn or climb or dive then adjust the trims as necessary. The elevator should be fine if
you did the test gliding correctly, the model will climb under power, this is normal and when you
throttle back in should go into the long flat glide that you trimmed for. Between quarter and mid
throttle somewhere it should maintain its height and fly level, you may need to keep adjusting the
throttle to maintain level flight depending on the weather conditions.

Now you are at a safe height, well upwind and nicely trimmed you can practice some gentle turns.
Using just the ailerons try turning left or right, move the stick a small amount and watch the model
as it banks, once you have the desired amount of bank (don't overdo this, keep it gentle) move the
stick back almost to neutral and the model will settle into a gentle turn, you may need to apply a
small amount of up elevator as it turns, avoid too much elevator as you could end up stalling.
While you are practicing these turns try and keep the model upwind of yourself, if it ends up
downwind things can go wrong very quickly and you will start moving the controls in the wrong
direction. Remember when the model is coming towards you the ailerons appear to work back to
front ie: if you move the stick left as the model is flying towards you it will go to your right and if you
move the stick right the model will go to your left. This problem is only overcome with practise, one
way that helps is that if the model is flying towards you and the left wing as you are looking at it
drops then push the stick to the left and vice versa.
At this point should should be flying gentle turns left and right upwind and before the battery goes
flat we need to think about landing. A good well planned circuit should end up with the model in the
right place to execute a reasonably good landing. You can do a left or righthand circuit, whichever
you are more comfortable with. For the purpose of this exercise will will do a lefthand circuit. At a
safe height fly the model off to your left still well upwind then turn the model left and head
downwind, reduce the power at this point to start gently loosing height and fly down the lefthand
side of your landing area. Allow it to come past yourself a little and just downwind of you then do a
90° lefthand turn towards the approach path of your landing area. If you are bit high at this point
reduce power a bit more, if you think you are a bit low gently apply some power to stop the
descent. When approaching the center line of your landing area do another 90° turn to the left and
line up into wind on your landing area. Now reduce power completely and allow the model to glide
as trimmed keeping the wings level with the ailerons. If the model is trimmed correctly and you
keep the wings level it will just land itself, when you have a bit more experience you can apply a
small amount of up elevator when it is just above the ground to raise the nose and flare to a gentle
landing.
Ok, so hopefully you have had a successful flight but things do not always go as planned when
you are learning. If you are flying and things start to go wrong the first thing to do is not panic!!
Close the throttle immediately you loose control, completely let go of the control sticks and let
them go to neutral, if the model is trimmed correctly it will slowly recover itself into a gentle glide.
Once in the glide gently turn it into wind and keep the wings level and allow it to land. Recompose
yourself and think about what went wrong and if the model is still in once piece have another go.
The worst situation is a spiral dive, in a spiral dive the model looses height very quickly and unless
recovery is done correctly the model will end up crashing. If a spiral dive develops then once again
the first thing to do is to close the throttle completely, determine very quickly whether it is a left or
righthand spiral, apply opposite aileron until the wings are level then apply elevator to pull out of
the dive. Whatever you do, do not put in up elevator when the model is in the spiral as this will only
exaggerate the problem and you will crash even quicker.

As mentioned at the start it is always best to enlist the help of an experienced model pilot who
can stand next to you while you are flying to give help and advice and can grab the controls if
things go wrong. There are plenty of model flying clubs and societies around with members
who are always willing to help with newcomers so please search you area before going it
alone.
