ボールレースのサイズは、通常その内径のインチ寸法にて表示しますが、本器はボールレースを外側からつ
かんで取り外す構造のため適応可能なボールレースを外径のミリメートル寸法にて表示しております。カ
ラー選択の際もボールレースの外径を測って決定してください。

本製品には外径３６.０～４０.０ｍｍボールレース用カラー黒と、
４０.５～４７.０ｍｍボールレース用カラー白
の２個のカラーが付属しています。工場出荷時にカラー黒が本体にセットされ、カラー白が同梱されていま
す。取り外すボールレースの外径により、適切なカラーを選択してください。

注意 …カラーが適切でないと、ボールレースやフォークコラムまたは本器を損傷する恐れが ります。
必ずご確認のうえ作業してください。
カラーを交換するときは次の手順でおこなってください。
使用するカラーを、内径の大きい方を下にして挿入し、チャックカバー、ハ
ンドルマウントの順に本体に取り付けます。

本体からハンドルマウント、チャックカバーの順に部品を反時計方向にまわ
して取り外し、使用しないカラーを抜き取ります。

注意 …絶対にカラーを逆さまに装着しないでください。
チャックの破損につながります。
本器は慎重に調整して出荷しておりますが、輸送中の振動によりチャックの取り付けがゆるんでいる場合
が ります。チャックがゆるんでいるとチャックカバーをまわしたときに共まわりを起こし、ボールレース
をつかむことができません。ハンドルマウント、チャックカバーをはずし、チャックを時計方向にしっかり
締めこんでください。

本器は、ヘッドパーツのボールレースを取り外すための専用工具です。この目的以外には使用しないでください。

本器を横向きに保持し、フォークコラムを挿入します。ハンドルを反時計方向にまわすに従いフォ ークコ
ラムが深く入ります。（図１）

● 本器のブッシュがフォークコラムに直角に当たり、ツメがボールレースを均等に保持するように、フォーク
コラムの先端が軸に対し直角になっている必要が ります。
斜めになっていると、ボールレースが抜け落ちてしまい、チャックやボールレースを破損する恐れが ります。
ボールレースの最大外周にチャックのツメが当たらない程度にチャックカバーをゆるめておきます。

チャックがボールレースのＣ面全周にわたってしっかりとかかっていることを確認し、ハンドルをゆっくり
と時計方向にまわします。

チャックカバーをしめるとカラーが下がりチャックが閉じてボールレースをつかみます。
※ 手がすべるときはチャックカバー上部にヘッドスパナ(４０ｍｍ)を当てて締めることもできますが、締め
すぎないように注意してください。

注意 …チャックカバーを締めこむ際、カラーの下側がチャックの端を越えないようにしてください。
これ以上チャックカバーを締めこむとチャックの破損の原因になります。

注意 …ハンドルは必ずゆっくりと操作してください。ボールレースのＣ面は非常に狭いため、ハンドル
を早く回すとチャックがボールレースから外れ、ボールレースやチャックを破損させる恐れが
ります。

チャックがボールレースから外れないことを確認しながら、さらにハンドルをゆっくりとまわしていくと
ボールレースが外れます。
チャックがボールレースから外れそうになる場合は、２の工程から再度チャックを装着しなおして作業して
ください。

・ 使用後は必ずチャックカバーをゆるめて保管してくだい。
長時間チャックにテンションがかかった状態で保管するとチャックの寿命を短くする原因となります。
・ 摺動部には定期的に注油してください。
・ カラーに付着した潤滑油はふき取って保管してください。
本器のチャックは消耗品です。お求めの際はご購入店までご相談ください。

Q1 チャックをボールレースにうまく装着できない。
A1 カラーのサイズをご確認ください。不適切なカラーが装着されている可能性が ります。ボールレースの
外径から適切なサイズのカラーを選んで装着しなおし、再度作業をおこなってください。

くまわしすぎている可能性が ります。再度確実に装着し、ゆっくりと作業してください。

Q4 リジッドフォークの場合、チャックをボールレースに対してしっかりと固定できない場合が るがそのまま
作業して問題ないか？
A4 リジッドフォークに圧入されている小径のボールレースには本器のチャック最小径は若干大きく、ガタが生
じる場合が りますが、チャックがボールレース全周にわたってホールドしている限りは作業上問題 りま
せん。ゆっくり操作してください。

C-440 BALL RACE REMOVER
Thank you for purchasing the HOZAN C-440 BALL RACE REMOVER. With proper care and handling, this fine
tool will provide years of trouble-free operation. Please read this entire instruction manual carefully before
attempting to place this tool in service. Please keep this instruction manual available for reference.

１．Maintain proper posture when using this tool.

Caution
This tool is designed for only removing ball race which is one of bicycle head parts. Do not use for any other purpose.

Even if the instructions do not have Caution mark, there are some possibilities for a serious
situation. Follow the instructions.

We ship the C-440 kept in good condition through the careful manufacture, however, the chuck installing
could have been loose due to vibration during transport. If so, the chuck will be turned with the chuck
cover together when the chuck cover is turned, causing a failure in catching the ball race. Take the handle
mount and the chuck cover off, and tighten the chuck clockwise securely.
Preparation
● Regarding the size of ball race
The size of ball race is generally identified with inner diameter in inch. Not like other conventional
remover, the C-440 holds a ball race from over, therefore in this instruction manual the applicable size of
ball races are indicated by outer diameter in metric.
Finally determine the appropriate collar according to the size of outer diameter.
Caution …Do not install the collar upside down.
This could cause a damage of the chuck.
Caution …Using incorrect collar could cause damage of the ball race, the fork and the tool.
Be sure the size of collar.
Exchange the collar in following procedures.
Turn the handle mount and the chuck cover counterclockwise to take those
off, then remove the collar.
Place the other collar back. Inner flare of the collar should face downward
along the flare of the chuck. Place the chuck cover and the handle mount.

The C-440 has two different size of collars in contents.
One is black collar for 36.0 to 40.0mm, the other is white collar for 40.5 to 47.0mm.
The black collar is installed when shipping out. Select the appropriate collar for the ball race.

４ Turn the handle continuously until the ball race becomes free. Always be sure that the chuck holds
the ball race evenly. If the chuck fail to hold the ball race during 3-4 procedure, please go back to step
2 to resume.
Caution …Be sure that the speed of turning the handle must be slow, since "C" face has very
narrow space and turning the handle roughly or quickly, it could unhook the ball race
and cause a damage of the chuck as well.

２ Turn the chuck cover clockwise to
slide down the collar.
※ With oily hands, it is slippery to turn the chuck cover. It may be used a 40mm wrench to turn the
chuck cover, but be careful from over-tightening.
Caution …When tighten the chuck, do not slide the bottom edge of collar out the bottom of chuck.
Max tight position is on a line of bottom edge of the collar and the chuck. Sliding out
the collar causes a damage and a trouble of the tool.

The face of the fork should be square with the axis. The bushing comes in contact with the fork squarely
so that the claw of the chuck hold the ball race evenly. If not, the ball race slips out causing a damage of
the chuck and the ball race.
Set the chuck cover loose enough not to contact the ball race and claw of the chuck.

３ Be sure that the chuck holds the ball race evenly, and then turn the handle clockwise gradually.

In this way, the ball race is removed
holding its “C” face with the chuck
claw. Therefore, particular shaped
ball races which have not “C” faces to
be held cannot be removed.

１ Lay the C-440 and hold horizontally. Insert the fork into the C-440. To insert the fork deeper, turn the
handle counterclockwise.(Fig 1)

Be sure the bushing touches the fork and adjust the depth of the chuck against the ball race with
turning the handle to where the claw be able to hold "C" of the ball race.

Daily care
● Store this tool with free tension on the chuck, loosing the chuck cover. therwise, the chuck will lose
tenacity and shorten the life span of the chuck.
● Lubricate the moving parts periodically.
● Wipe the oil off on the collar.
The chuck is a consumable part. Ask your H ZAN dealer if necessary.
Troubleshooting
The chuck can not hold the ball race well !!
Check if the collar is right size. It may not be appropriate size for the ball race.
Select the right collar again. Or the chuck cover may not be tightened enough, or the handle may be
turned too fast.
If it is possible to remove a ball race installed on longer fork than 210mm.
It is applicable to even longer fork than 210mm in combination with the C-441, EXTENSI N TUBE.
What is availability of replacement parts ?
Consumables and some of component parts are available. Ask your H ZAN dealer.
Is this tool applicable to rigid fork ?
Generally, the size of ball race installed on a rigid fork is rather small for C-440 ( even with smallest
collar ) and there could be a little rattle between the ball race and the chuck.
But it could not be a problem as long as the chuck hold the ball race evenly and turn the chuck cover
slowly.
