1. Welcome to the HTC Snap Quick Start Guide
Congratulations on your purchase of the HTC Snap™ Global Phone!
This Quick Start Guide will help you get started with your new phone. This guide will walk
you through the features we feel you will want to learn right away when you use your HTC
Snap.
For a more complete guide in using your HTC Snap, please refer to the User Manual PDF
in the Getting Started disc that came with the device.
Changing Networks on the Go!
Have you ever traveled to another country or outside your network carrier service area
only to find that you have to purchase or lease another cell phone?
Your HTC Snap Global Phone covers all the bases by incorporating a GSM SIM slot into its
CDMA architecture. Now when you travel outside the range of the Telus CDMA service
coverage area, you can insert a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE SIM card that gives you the
power to go where you want to and still keep connected.
For more information about your dual mode CDMA Global Phone, refer to the User
Manual.

Press the NAVIGATION CONTROL buttons to scroll left, right, up, or down. Pressing the
center acts as the ENTER button to click items on the screen.

4. Installing the Battery and Storage Card
You need to remove the back cover before you can install the battery or storage card. Also,
make sure to always turn off the power before installing or replacing the battery.
Note Your Global Phone accommodates a GSM SIM card for global coverage. Refer to the User
Manual for instructions on inserting a SIM card.

Hold the device securely with both hands and
the front facing down.
Push the back cover up with your thumb until it
disengages from the phone and then slide it up
to remove.

Storage Card
To have additional storage for your images, videos, music, and files, you can purchase a
microSD™ card and install it into your device.
To install the microSD card
Remove the back cover.
Insert the microSD card into the slot with its
gold contacts facing down until it clicks into
place. Refer to the illustration above the SIM
card slot for the correct orientation.
Note To remove the microSD card, press it to eject it
from the slot.

Battery
Your phone comes with a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery and is designed to use only
manufacturer-specified original batteries and accessories.
To install the battery
Remove the back cover.
Align the exposed metal contacts on the edge
of the battery with the battery connectors
inside the battery compartment.
Insert the contacts side of the battery first and
then gently push the battery into place.
Replace the back cover.

5. Get Started
After installing and charging the battery, you can now power on and start using your
phone.
Turning on the power
Press and hold the END/POWER button for a few seconds. When you turn on the phone
the first time, the phone installs customization settings and then restarts.
The Home Screen
After the phone restarts from configuring your data
connections, you are taken to the HTC Home™. HTC Home
lets you quickly access various information, applications,
and settings on the phone.
Navigate through the panels on HTC Home by scrolling
up or down with the NAVIGATION CONTROL. When
a panel is selected, scroll left/right to go through the
available options of that HTC Home panel. Open any
panel by pressing ENTER.

Entering Text
You can enter text, numbers, and symbols using
the QWERTY keyboard. The raised keys, laid out in a
natural offset pattern create a truly enjoyable typing
experience. The status indicator on the top-right side
of the display screen displays the input mode that
you are currently using.
You can do the following with the QWERTY keyboard.
To type lowercase letters, press the keys using your thumbs or fingers.
To use a single uppercase letter, press and then press the corresponding key.
To use all uppercase letters, press + . To change back to all lowercase letters,
press .
To enter a number or symbol that is printed at the upper-right corner of a key, press
and then press the corresponding key.
To continuously enter numbers or symbols that are printed at the upper-right corner
of the keys, press twice and then press the corresponding keys. Press again to
exit continuous input mode.
To open the Symbol table and insert numbers, symbols, special characters, or
punctuation, press .
To backspace and delete a single character, press or BACK.
To backspace and delete several characters, press and hold or BACK.
Press to enter a space.
While entering text, press and hold to display the text input options menu.

Quick List
The Quick List offers convenient access to a list of functions, such as locking your phone
and keypad, opening Comm Manager, and choosing a different profile.
To access the Quick List
Press and hold the END/POWER button.
Select the desired option and click Select.
To exit the Quick List at any time, click Cancel.

6. Personalize Your HTC Snap
Personalize your HTC Snap to suit your lifestyle.
Date and Time
If you are a frequent traveler, you can easily set your device to display the date and time of
your location.
On the Home screen, scroll to the Home panel and then press ENTER.
Click Date and Time and then set the Time zone, Date, and Time.
Click Done.
Wallpaper
Personalize the Home screen to display your personal photo.
On the Home screen, scroll to the Settings panel.
Scroll right until you see Background Image and then press ENTER.
Select the picture you want to use by scrolling right/left and then clicking Done.
Note To use personal photos for the Home screen wallpaper, copy the photos to \My Documents\
My Pictures on your device.

Ring tone
On the Home screen, scroll down to the Settings panel.
Scroll right until you see Ringtone and press ENTER.
On the Sounds screen, select a ringtone in Ring tone and then click Done.
Profile
You can select a profile for incoming calls.
On the Home screen, scroll to the Settings panel and then press ENTER (option
should be Profile).
Select the profile you want to use and then click Done.
Tip To quickly change the profile, press and hold the END/POWER button to display the Quick
List, and choose a profile.
Battery and backlight settings
Conserve battery power by adjusting the battery and backlight settings. On the Home
screen, click Start > All Programs > Settings > Power > Power Management, and adjust
the backlight, display, or light sensor settings.
More settings
To access all settings on your device, click Start > All Programs > Settings.

7. Use HTC Home
HTC Home lets you quickly access various information, applications, and settings on
your phone. Navigate through the panels on HTC Home by scrolling up or down with
the NAVIGATION CONTROL. When a panel is selected, scroll left/right to go through the
available options of that particular HTC Home panel. Open the item by pressing ENTER.
Home
Displays the current time and date, an alarm icon if you
have set up an alarm, and the Wi-Fi status if you have
turned on Wi-Fi.
Click to open the Clock & Alarm screen where you can
adjust the time and set alarms.
Tip Pressing HOME while on the Home screen takes you to
this panel. .
Appointments
Lets you see your upcoming appointments for the day or
set a new appointment.
If you have more than one appointment for the day,
scroll right to go through your appointments.
Click to open the Calendar and create or manage your
appointments.
Notification
Displays your missed calls and voicemails, lets you read
snippets of unread text and media messages, or set up a
new e-mail account.
Note For missed calls, the default icon is shown if there is no
picture associated with the contact who called you

Message
Read snippets of your unread messages or create new
text (SMS) messages. Scroll left or right to go through
your unread messages.
Click the message to open the full message.
E-mail
View snippets of your unread e-mail messages or create
a new e-mail. Scroll left or right to go through your
unread messages.
Click an e-mail to open the full e-mail.
Weather
View the weather conditions of a selected city. Press
ENTER to view the 5-day forecast for the city.
On the Forecast screen, click Menu > Refresh to refresh
the weather information or click Menu > Change City to
select another city.
Internet Explorer
Quickly access your Internet Explorer Mobile favorites
(bookmarks). Scroll left or right to go through your
web favorites, and then press ENTER to open Internet
Explorer to your favorite web page.

Getting Started
Learn the basic features and settings of your phone
through these tutorials.
Scroll left or right to go through the available topics, and
then press ENTER to view the selected topic.
Tip You can remove the Getting Started panel from HTC
Home. To remove, scroll right until you see Done!
Remove Getting Started and then press ENTER. On
the Getting Started screen, click the Add/Remove link.
Settings
Quickly change the phone profile, ring tone, and
background image from this panel. You can also quickly
access the Comm Manager and Task Manager programs
on this panel.
Click All Settings to show all available settings for your
phone.

8. Add Contacts
Save the contact information of the people you stay in touch with on your phone.
To add a contact to your phone
On the Home screen Home panel, click Contacts > New > Outlook Contact.
Tip Select SIM Contact to create the contact on the SIM card.
Enter information for the new contact.
Click Done.
To copy SIM card contacts to your phone
If you have installed a SIM card, you can copy the SIM card contacts to your phone.
Note Copying the contacts on your SIM card to the phone will result in duplicate contacts in the
Contacts list.
On the Home screen, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > SIM Manager.
Select a SIM contact or select all SIM contacts by clicking Menu > Select All.
Click Menu > Save to Contacts.

9. Take Charge of Your Inbox with Inner Circle
Inner Circle™ enables you to group your most important contacts together in one location
and access them with the press of a single key. E-mail messages from your Inner Circle
members will be grouped together as well.
To display the Inner Circle screen
Do one of the following:
Click Start > All Programs > Inner Circle.
Press the Inner Circle key .•
Inner Circle
The first time you run Inner Circle, a tutorial explains how to use the program.
To add members of your contact list to the Inner Circle
Press the Inner Circle key.
Click Menu > Member List.
Click Menu > Add.
Select the contacts you would like to add to the
Inner Circle. A checkmark appears next to the
selected contacts.

Inner Circle - Member list.

To add non-contact members to the Inner Circle
In the Inner Circle - Add screen, click Menu > New.
Enter the e-mail address for the new member.
Click OK.
To add the sender of an e-mail to the Inner Circle
From the e-mail account inbox, select or open an e-mail message.
Click Menu > Add to Inner Circle.
Click OK on the confirmation screen.
To delete a member from the Inner Circle
In the Inner Circle - Member list, click Menu > Delete.
Select the members that you want to delete and click Delete.
Click Yes on the confirmation screen.
To search for a member in the Inner Circle
In the Inner Circle - Member list, select a member and click Menu > Search Member.
Start entering letters in the search textbox. The list displays members whose names
begin with the letters.
To view a member’s contact details, select the member and click View or press
ENTER.
To view e-mail from Inner Circle members
Press the Inner Circle key.
Any e-mail messages from members of the Inner
Circle are displayed.
From here you can Select an e-mail and press the
ENTER key to view it. Click All Email to view the
Messaging accounts screen.

10. Make Calls
With your phone, you can make calls from the Phone screen, Contacts, and Call History.
Making a call from the Phone screen
Enter the phone number by pressing the keys on the
keypad.
Press the BACK key if you need to delete a number.
Press TALK.
Making a call from Contacts
On the Home panel, click Contacts.
Select the desired contact, and press TALK.

Making a call from Call History
On the Home screen, click Start > All Programs > Call History.
Select a name or number, and press TALK.
Receiving and Ending a Call
When you receive a phone call, you have the option to answer it or ignore it.
To answer the call, press the TALK button.
To reject the call, press the END/POWER button.
To reject the call and to send a text message to the
caller’s mobile phone, click Send Text.
To mute the ringing sound without rejecting the
call, click Silence.
When a call is in progress, press the END/POWER
button to hang up.

11. Send Text Messages
Creating and sending text messages to your family, friends or business associates is fun
and easy with your phone. The QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages.
Sending a Text Message
On the Home screen, scroll to the Messages panel and then press ENTER.
Note If you have unread messages, you will need to scroll right until you see New Message
before pressing ENTER.
Click Text message.
Enter the mobile phone number of one or more recipients, separating them with a
semicolon (;).
Enter your message. You can enter up to 160 characters in one message.
Click Send.
12. Set Up and Use E-mail
On the Home screen, scroll to the Email panel and set up your personal e-mail account
such as Yahoo! Mail Plus or AOL and your Outlook work e-mail account.
If this is your first time to set up an e-mail account, click Set Up. If you are setting up
subsequent accounts, on the Home screen click Start > All Programs > Messaging
> Setup E-mail. The Mail Setup screen then opens, guiding you to set up your e-mail
account.
To set up an Internet e-mail account
On the E-mail Setup screen, enter your e-mail address and password for the e-mail
account, select the Save password option and then click Next.
Note E-mail Setup searches your phone for preloaded e-mail configuration settings. If the
phone cannot find the server settings for the specified e-mail account, your phone needs
to connect to the Internet and try to download the settings. If it cannot find the settings
online, you need to enter the settings manually.

Click Next. Enter Your name and the Account display name and then click Next.
In the Automatic Send/Receive list, choose how often you want e-mail messages
to be automatically sent and downloaded on your phone.
Click Finish.
To set up an Outlook work e-mail account
Click Start > All Programs > ActiveSync.
Click Menu > Add Server Source.
Enter your E-mail address, and ensure that the Attempt to detect Exchange
Server Settings automatically check box is selected. By selecting the option, the
device attempts to download exchange server settings so that you do not need to
enter them manually. Click Next.
Enter your User name, Password, and Domain. Exchange Server settings and the
password are case-sensitive, so be sure to enter uppercase and lowercase letters
correctly. Select the Save password check box if you want to save your password so
that you do not need to enter it again. Click Next.
After Automatic Configuration finishes, enter the Server address. Click Next.
Select the check boxes of the items that you want to sync with the Exchange Server.
Click Finish.
To create and send an e-mail message
On the Home screen, scroll to the Email panel.
Scroll left/right until you see New Email.
Press ENTER.
Choose an e-mail account on the Accounts screen and click Select.
Enter the e-mail address of one or more recipients, separating them with a
semicolon.
Enter a subject and compose your message.
Click Send.
