GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Pirouette®window shadings. With proper installation
and care, your new shadings will provide years of beauty.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before beginning
the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
■Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers
■Measuring tape and pencil
■Level (laser level is recommended)
■Power drill, drill bits, and Phillips-head driver
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
■#6 Round Head Screws (Provided). One screw per installation
bracket (#6 x 1
1
/ 2 ") or magnetic hold-down bracket (#6 x
3
/ 4 ").
■Drywall Anchors (Not Provided). Use drywall anchors when
mounting into drywall.
Mounting Types and Window Terminology
If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows very
easily. To prepare for this important first step, review the basic window terminology illustrated
with an angle shading.

Install the Brackets
Circle shadings require three installation brackets. The number of
installation brackets for arch and angle shadings vary depending
on the width of the shadings.
Each installation bracket will have a fabric U-clip and arrow pin.
IMPORTANT: The process for determining the installation bracket location and installing the
installation bracket is basically the same for any of the shading shapes available (arch, angle, or
circle). The following steps use an arch as an example. Any differences as a result of a specific
shading shape will be called out at that point in the instruction.
Determine Installation Bracket Location
Attach the Installation Bracket to the Plastic Support
■Clear a flat, clean workspace.
■Lay the shading with the front side of the fabric facing up.
■Break off the fabric U-clip and the installation bracket from the plastic tree.
CAUTION: Be careful when handling the fabric U-clip and the arrow pin. Due to their small
size, they can become lost during the installation process.
■Place the installation bracket behind the plastic support with the hole facing the slot.
➤Wider Angle Shadings and Arch Shadings:
There are two installation bracket slots. Attach
an installation bracket to each slot.
➤Circle Shadings: There are three installation
bracket slots; one slot at the top, and two slots
at the bottom, see “Product View” on page 1.
The bottom installation brackets must first be
inverted before attaching to the shading.
■Insert the arrow pin through the slot and into the hole in the installation bracket.
Measure and Mark the Location for the Installation Bracket
■The minimum mounting depth for screw
placement is
3
/ 8 ". Mounting depth for a fully
recessed shading is up to 2
7
/ 8 " depending
upon fabric type.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to make an allowance of at
least
1
/ 8 " between the window and the screw hole
location to allow enough clearance for the installation
bracket to slide back to lock the shading in place.
■Angle Shadings: Hold the shading up and center
it in the window. Using the attached installation
brackets as a template, determine the depth
required and mark the screw holes.
■Arch Shading and Circle Shadings: Locate and
mark the top center of the window casement. One
method is to use a plumb line as shown.
➤Measure the sill and divide in two to locate the
center and mark the location.
➤Move the plumb line until the bob aligns with
the center mark on the sill, then mark the
location on the top center of window casement.
IMPORTANT: Locating the exact center is very important for the shading to hang level
and evenly in the window.
IMPORTANT: For template-free orders, some trimming may be required during
installation due to structural irregularities of the window. See “Trim the Shading” on
page7.
➤Hold the shading up to the window and center it on your mark.
➤Using the attached installation bracket as a template, determine the depth required and
mark the screw hole.
Install the Screw
CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting
into drywall.
■Install one screw for each installation bracket at
your marks.
➤Drill the screw hole using a
3
/ 32 " drill bit.
➤Install the screw. Leave the screw head
partially unscrewed, approximately
5
/ 16 ".
IMPORTANT: For shadings with two installation
brackets, install the screws at an angle
perpendicular to the mounting surface.

Install the Shading
Attach the Installation Bracket
■Remove the arrow pin to release the installation
bracket from the plastic support.
■Fit the screw head into the keyhole slot of each
installation bracket.
■Slide the installation bracket back and tighten the
screw to lock it in place.
CAUTION: If it is difficult to slide the installation bracket, adjust the height of the screw
head to allow more room.
Attach the Fabric
■Hold the shading up to the installation bracket.
Allow the top fabric panel to fall foward until
after adjustments.
■Insert the arrow pin through the slots into the
installation bracket.
Adjust the Shading
For the best appearance, the shading should be level and hang
straight with approximately a
1
/ 4 " gap evenly around the shading.
■If necessary, adjust the shading to either side by sliding the
arrow pin in the slot.
IMPORTANT: For template-free orders, some trimming may
be required during installation due to structural irregulariities
of the window. See “Trim the Shading” on page7.
Install the Fabric U-Clip
■Lift the front fabric panel up and hold it in place.
■Align the arms of the fabric U-clip to the installation
bracket, and slowly slide the U-clip onto the
installation bracket.
IMPORTANT: Slide the U-clip onto the installation
bracket just enough to capture and hold the top of
the front fabric panel up against the plastic support,
without creating puckers or wrinkles.

Mount the Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets (Optional)
Arch and Angle Shadings
■Lower the shading until it is fully lowered.
■Attach the magnetic hold-down bracket onto the bottom rail
just inside the end cap, oriented as shown.
■Mark the screw locations.
➤The screw should be placed in the middle of the channel
to allow for adjustment.
■Drill the screw holes using a
3
/ 32 " drill bit.
■Attach the magnetic hold-down brackets to the mounting
surface using the screws provided.
■If necessary, adjust the bracket height by loosening the screw
and sliding the bracket up or down.
Mount the Bottom Installation Brackets (Optional)
Circle and Octagon Shadings
■With the shading hanging straight, invert two
installation brackets and place them behind the slots
on the back side of the bottom plastic support.
■Insert the arrow pins through the slots into the
installation brackets.
■Use the installation brackets as a template to mark the screw holes on the sill.
■Drill the screw holes using a
3
/ 32 " drill bit.
■Fasten the installation brackets to the sill using the screws provided.
➤If the installation bracket is slightly short of
reaching the sill, use the provided shims to
raise the installation bracket.

Problem The fabric rubs against the window casement.
Solution Adjust the Shading
Before trimming the shading, center it in the window. Move it to either side by
sliding the arrow pin in the slot. See “Adjust the Shading” on page 5.
Trim the Shading
CAUTION: Trimming the shading permanently alters the shading. Be sure you
have exhausted all other adjustment possibilities before trimming the shading.
■At the location where the fabric is rubbing, gently pull the fabric away from
the window casement. Then pull the fabric taut against the edge of the
casement.
■Cut small sections of fabric from the
rubbing area. Be careful not to cut away
too much fabric. Remove the shading
from the window to trim it, if necessary.
■Gently push the fabric back into place
and check the fit. If needed, repeat the
trimming process.
Problem The installation bracket will not slide onto the screw.
Solution Verify that the screw placement is accurate. Adjust if necessary.
Adjust the height of the screw head. See “Install the Screw” on page 4.
Problem The shading is puckering or sagging.
Solution Adjust the fabric U-clip attached to the installation bracket. See “Install the
Fabric U-Clip” on page 5.
Adjust the shading to either side by sliding the arrow pin in the slot. See “Adjust
the Shading” on page 5.
Troubleshooting

Problem The shading is not centered in the window.
Solution Verify the center of the window and check that the screws are accurately
mounted. Adjust the screw placement or height to compensate. See “Measure
and Mark the Location for the Installation Bracket” on page 3.
Problem Arch and Angle Shadings: The bottom rail does not appear straight.
Solution Verify that the screw placement is accurate. Adjust if necessary.
Adjust the shading to either side by sliding the arrow pin in the slot. See “Adjust
the Shading” on page 5.
If the window casement is uneven, adjust the screw height.

Remove the Shading
■Use a small, flat blade screwdriver to gently pry off the fabric U-clip from the installation
bracket. The face fabric will drop.
■Gently pry the arrow pin out of the hole in the installation bracket.
■Slide the installation bracket forward from the screw.
■Release the installation bracket from the screw.
Cleaning Procedures
The following options are available for cleaning and reducing wrinkles in your shading.
Dusting
■Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning needed in most circumstances.
Vacuuming
■Use a hand-held vacuum with low suction for dust removal.
Spot-Cleaning
■Prepare a solution of warm water and mild detergent.
➤Dampen a clean cloth in the solution and wring it out.
➤Place a dry, clean cloth behind the spot between the face fabric and the back fabric.
➤Dab the spot with the dampened cloth until it is removoed. Do not rub the fabric.
➤Rubbing alcohol or non-oil-based baby wipes may be used on more stubborn stains.
Injection/Extraction
Shadings can be cleaned by a professional using the injection/extraction method of
deepcleaning.
CAUTION: Do not use injection/extraction procedures on the fabric-covered bottom rail or the
plastic support.
■Specify the dry cleaning method only.
■Pretreat heavy stains.

Ultrasonic Cleaning
Shadings can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional.
CAUTION: Do not ultrasonically clean the fabric-covered bottom rail or the plastic support.
■Specify that a mild detergent solution be used.
■Never immerse the bottom rail or the plastic support in the solution.
A Note About Pirouette®Fabric
As with all textiles, Pirouette®fabric is subject to some variations. Slight wrinkling, puckering, or
bowing is inherent to this textile product and should be considered normal, acceptable quality. These
characteristics are not usually visible from the front or rear but may be visible from a side angle.
Precautions should be taken to reduce exposure to harsh environmental elements, such as salt air.
Continuous exposure through open windows and doors will accelerate the fabric deterioration.

• Any conditions caused by normal wear and tear.
• Abuse, accidents, misuse or alterations to the
