Instructions for Use
Please read all information carefully, in particular the
User Manual, which is provided with the DePuy Mitek
VAPR Generator prior to using the device. The various
components of the DePuy Mitek VAPR System are
designed to be used together as a single unit. Failure
to properly follow instructions may lead to electrical
or thermal injury and result in improper functioning of
the device.
Device Description
The DePuy Mitek VAPR System is designed for
arthroscopic surgical procedures. The System
consists of a high frequency electrosurgical
Generator, a reusable Handpiece with Connector
Cable, disposable Electrodes, Electrode with
integrated handpiece, and a Footswitch. The
components are designed and intended to be
operated as a single unit. Use only DePuy Mitek
VAPR Electrodes and accessories with the DePuy
Mitek VAPR System.
WARNINGS
• Do not touch the electrode tip when power is
being applied.
• Do not insert or withdraw the Electrode while
power is being applied.
• Inadvertent activation or movement of the
Electrode outside the field of vision may result in
patient injury.
• Avoid unnecessary and prolonged activation
between tissue applications as unintended injury
may result.
• Avoid bubble accumulation in the joint space
during use. The accumulation of bubbles around
the working tip of the Electrode will diminish
performance and may produce overheating
sufficient to damage adjacent structures.
• Do not reuse any accessories labeled as
SINGLE USE.
• Using arthroscopic guidance, ensure that the
Electrode tip is completely surrounded by
conductive irrigant solution during use.
• When bending the FLEX Electrode, do not exceed
a 45° angle with the plane of the shaft.
• Do not change the FLEX Electrode shape more
than three times at the same point on the shaft.
More than three angle modifications can result in
electrode fracture.
• Use of instruments to bend the electrodes can
cause damage to the FLEX Electrode. Electrodes
should only be bent using fingers.
• Avoid touching the ceramic and active tip of the
electrode with your fingers or instruments.
• Attempts to bend non-FLEX 3.5 mm Electrodes
can result in electrode fracture.
• Due to low joint-space volume in smaller joints,
such as the wrist, it may be necessary to manually
lower the power settings or increase the flow
through the joint in order to maintain adequate
inter-joint cooling.

CAUTIONS
• Use only conductive irrigant solution (e.g., saline
or Ringer’s lactate). Do not use non-conductive
irrigants (e.g., sterile water, air, gas, glycine, etc.)
• Ensure that the Electrode is fully seated in the
Handpiece prior to use. (Note: Not applicable on
Electrodes with integrated cable.)
• Avoid fluid contact with the proximal end of
the Electrode/Handpiece interface. (Note: Not
applicable on Electrodes with integrated cable.)
• Place accessories in a clean, dry, nonconductive
and highly visible area away from the patient when
not in use. Inadvertent contact with the patient
may result in burns. Contact with drapes or other
flammable materials may cause fire.
• Do not wrap the Handpiece/Electrode cable
around metal objects. Wrapping the cable around
metal objects may induce currents that could
lead to shock, fires, or injury to the patient or
surgical personnel.
• During arthroscopic procedures be alert to these
potential hazards:
• As with all electrosurgical devices, do not use
in the presence of flammable anesthetics or
oxidizing gases, such as nitrous oxide or oxygen.
An electrosurgical device has the potential for
providing a source for ignition. Endogenous gases
which accumulate in body cavities can also be a
source of ignition.
• The Electrode tip may remain hot enough to
cause burns after the electrosurgical current
is deactivated.
• Do not activate the Electrode while in contact
with metal objects and instruments as unintended
tissue injury may occur.
• Carefully insert and withdraw Electrodes to avoid
possible damage to the devices and/or injury to
the patient or surgical personnel.
• The patient should not be allowed to come in
contact with grounded metal objects.
• Prior to initial use, ensure that all package inserts
including warnings, cautions, and Instructions
for Use are read and understood. Safe and
effective electrosurgery is dependent not only on
equipment design, but also on factors under the
control of the user. (Refer to User Manual.)
• Excessive force may damage the electrode
tip assembly.
IMPORTANT: This package insert is designed to
provide instructions for use of the DePuy Mitek VAPR
System for Arthroscopic Use. It is not a reference to
electrosurgical technique.
Indications
The DePuy Mitek VAPR Electrosurgical System, when
used with a VAPR Electrode or VAPR FLEX Electrode,
is intended for resection, ablation, excision of soft
tissue, hemostasis of blood vessels and coagulation
of soft tissues in patients requiring arthroscopic
surgery of the knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow and wrist.
The DePuy Mitek VAPR Electrosurgical System, when
used with a VAPR T Thermal Electrode, is intended
for coagulation of soft tissues in patients requiring
arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, ankle,
elbow and wrist.
Contraindications
The DePuy Mitek VAPR System is contraindicated
in any non-arthroscopic surgical procedure and
in procedures where saline or Ringer’s lactate is
not used as an irrigant. The System is also not
appropriate for patients for whom an arthroscopic
procedure is contraindicated for any reason. Use of
the System is also contraindicated in patients with
heart pacemakers or other electronic device implants.
Instructions for Use
• Read all instructions carefully. Failure to properly
follow instructions may lead to electrical or
thermal injury and cause improper functioning
of the device.
• The operator should be experienced in
arthroscopic surgical techniques.

• Please refer to the User Manual for step-by-step
instructions regarding the assembly and initial
system check of the DePuy Mitek VAPR System.
Shaping the FLEX Electrode
• If needed, carefully use your fingers to bend the
shaft of the FLEX electrode to the desired shape.
The electrode can be bent a maximum of 45°
three separate times at the same point.
Shaping the 2.3 mm VAPR Electrode
• If needed, carefully use your fingers to bend
the shaft of the 2.3 mm Electrode to the desired
shape. The Electrode can be bent one time to a
maximum angle of 30° from the plane of the shaft.
Before Surgery
1. Switch on the DePuy Mitek VAPR Generator.
Follow the instructions in the User Manual
so that the Generator displays the symbol
“CONNECT CABLE.”
*2. Connect a sterilized Handpiece to the Generator.
Follow the instructions in the User Manual
so that the Generator displays the symbol
“INSERT ELECTRODE.”
3. If you have selected a VAPR FLEX Electrode or
a 2.3 mm VAPR Electrode, bend the Electrode
as needed.
*4. Connect a new DePuy Mitek VAPR Electrode
to the Handpiece. Check that the Handpiece
and Electrode are properly aligned before
pushing together and tightening the screw lock
(See Illustration).
*NOTE: These steps do not apply when using
the DePuy Mitek VAPR Electrode with integrated
handpiece. In this case, connect the plug
at the end of the integrated cable directly to
the generator.
5. For safety and convenience, VAPR Electrodes
automatically preset the Generator to default
output settings and restrict output levels to
preserve electrode integrity. If alternate power
levels are desired, adjust the VAPR Generator to
the desired settings using the BLUE and YELLOW
arrows on the front of the VAPR Generator. Use
the lowest power possible to achieve the desired
end effect. The default settings for each Electrode
are as follows:

CAUTION: Verify the VAPR Generator display
matches the VAPR Electrode default setting as
specified above. If the Generator display does not
match the Electrode default settings refer to User
Manual for further instructions.
6. Using arthroscopic guidance, carefully insert the
non-activated Electrode into the joint cavity portal
under direct vision. Wherever possible, use an
instrument cannula for the access portal.
Performing Coagulation of soft tissue with VAPR T
Thermal Electrodes
1. VAPR T Electrodes will automatically default to
low power levels suitable for thermal coagulation.
If alternate power levels are desired, adjust the
VAPR Generator to the desired settings using
the BLUE and YELLOW arrows on the front of
the VAPR Generator and proceed with thermal
coagulation as desired. Use the lowest power
possible, in the range of 5 to 30 watts, to achieve
the desired end effect.
Changing VAPR Electrodes During Surgery
1. Carefully remove the Electrode from the joint
cavity. Do not withdraw the Electrode while power
is being applied.
2. Unlock the connector assembly and disengage
the Electrode connector and Handpiece.
Check that the Generator displays the symbol
“INSERT ELECTRODE.” (Note: Not applicable on
Electrodes with integrated cable. In such cases,
unplug the electrode from the generator.)
3. Fit a new sterile Electrode as previously
described. If the new Electrode has different
default settings to the previous Electrode, check
that the Generator display matches the Electrode
default settings specified on the package insert. If
the new Electrode has identical default settings to
the previous Electrode, the Generator will retain
the settings previously displayed prior to changing
the Electrode. If the Generator display does not
conform to the above description refer to User
Manual for further instructions.
After Surgery
1. Disassemble the VAPR Electrode and VAPR
Handpiece. (Note: Not applicable on Electrodes
with integrated cable.)
2. Disconnect the Electrode/Handpiece from the
Generator. The Generator will now display
the symbol “CONNECT CABLE.” Disconnect
by pulling the plug body. Do not pull on the
cable. Pulling the cable may cause damage to
the device.
3. The Generator can be left in idle mode between
surgical procedures. Turn off the Generator at the
conclusion of a surgical day.
4. Dispose of the single-use Electrode(s).
5. Prepare reusable accessories for cleaning
and sterilization.
How Supplied
The Electrodes used in the DePuy Mitek VAPR
System are provided sterile and are disposable for
single use. The Electrodes are available in a variety of
configurations, default settings, and flexibility.
Important: The contents are sterile unless the
package is opened or damaged. Do not resterilize.
Storage
Store below 25°C (77°F) away from moisture and
direct heat. Do not use after use by date.

Instrucciones de uso
Lea atentamente toda la información, especialmente
el Manual del usuario que se incluye con el

Descripción del dispositivo
El Sistema VAPR de DePuy Mitek ha sido diseñado
para ser utilizado en procedimientos quirúrgicos
artroscópicos. El sistema se compone de un
generador electroquirúrgico de alta frecuencia,
una pieza de mano con cable conector reutilizable,
electrodos desechables, un electrodo con pieza de
mano integrada y un pedal. Los componentes están
diseñados para ser utilizados como una sola unidad.
Utilice únicamente accesorios y electrodos VAPR de
DePuy Mitek con el Sistema VAPR de DePuy Mitek.
ADVERTENCIAS
• No toque la punta del electrodo cuando
aplica corriente.
• No introduzca ni retire el electrodo mientras
aplica corriente.
• La activación o movimiento accidental del
electrodo fuera del campo de visión puede causar
lesiones al paciente.
• Evite la activación innecesaria y prolongada entre
aplicaciones tisulares ya que podrían producirse
lesiones accidentales.
• Evite la acumulación de burbujas en el espacio
articular durante el uso. La acumulación de
burbujas alrededor de la punta del electrodo
reduce la eficacia del generador y puede

• No reutilice ningún accesorio que tenga la

• Al flexionar el Electrodo FLEX, no exceda un

• Si intenta flexionar electrodos que no sean de tipo

• Debido al bajo volumen de la cavidad articular
en las articulaciones más pequeñas, tales
como la muñeca, puede ser necesario reducir
manualmente los valores de potencia o aumentar
el flujo a través de la articulación para mantener el
enfriamiento adecuado entre articulaciones.

PRECAUCIONES
• Utilice únicamente soluciones irrigantes
conductoras (p. ej., solución salina o lactato de
Ringer). No utilice irrigantes no conductores
(p. ej., agua esterilizada, aire, gas, glicina, etc.).
• Asegúrese de que el electrodo esté
completamente ajustado a la pieza de mano antes
de usarlo. (Nota: no aplicable a los electrodos con
cable integrado.)
• Evite que el extremo proximal de la interfaz
electrodo/pieza de mano entre en contacto con

vez, asegúrese de leer y entender todas las

uso que se incluyen. La seguridad y efectividad
de la electrocirugía no dependen sólo del diseño
del equipo sino también de factores humanos
bajo el control del usuario (consulte el Manual
del usuario).
• El uso de fuerza excesiva puede dañar el conjunto
de la punta del electrodo.
IMPORTANTE: este manual ha sido diseñado para
ofrecer instrucciones en el uso artroscópico del
Sistema VAPR de DePuy Mitek. El presente manual
no constituye una guía de técnicas de electrocirugía.
Indicaciones
Cuando se utiliza con un Electrodo VAPR o un
Electrodo VAPR FLEX, el propósito del Sistema
electroquirúrgico VAPR de DePuy Mitek es la
resección, la ablación, la extirpación de tejidos
blandos, la hemostasia de vasos sanguíneos y la
coagulación de tejidos blandos en pacientes que
necesitan cirugía artroscópica de rodilla, hombro,
tobillo, codo y muñeca. Cuando se utiliza con un
Electrodo térmico T VAPR, el propósito del Sistema
electroquirúrgico VAPR de DePuy Mitek es la
coagulación de tejidos blandos en pacientes que
necesitan cirugía artroscópica de rodilla, hombro,
tobillo, codo y muñeca.

Contraindicaciones
El Sistema VAPR de DePuy Mitek está
contraindicado en procesos quirúrgicos no
artroscópicos y en procedimientos en los que no
se utiliza como irrigante solución salina o lactato
de Ringer. El sistema tampoco está indicado
en pacientes en los que por alguna razón está
contraindicado el procedimiento artroscópico. El uso
del sistema también está contraindicado en pacientes
con marcapasos u otros dispositivos electrónicos.
Instrucciones de uso
• Lea atentamente las instrucciones. Si no se
siguen adecuadamente las instrucciones
se pueden producir lesiones eléctricas o
térmicas y es posible que el dispositivo no
funcione correctamente.
• El usuario debe ser experimentado en las
técnicas quirúrgicas artroscópicas.
• Consulte el Manual del usuario para obtener
instrucciones detalladas sobre el montaje
y verificación inicial del Sistema VAPR de
DePuy Mitek.
Manejo del Electrodo FLEX
• Si es necesario, utilice cuidadosamente sus
dedos para flexionar el cuerpo del Electrodo FLEX
y darle la forma deseada. El electrodo puede
flexionarse hasta un máximo de 45° en el mismo
punto, en tres ocasiones diferentes.
Manejo del Electrodo VAPR de 2,3 mm
• Si es necesario, utilice cuidadosamente sus
dedos para flexionar el cuerpo del electrodo de
2,3 mm y darle la forma deseada. El electrodo
puede flexionarse una vez hasta un máximo de
30° desde el plano del eje.
Antes de la intervención
1. Encienda el Generador VAPR de DePuy Mitek.
Siga las instrucciones del Manual del usuario
hasta que aparezca en la pantalla “CONNECT
CABLE” (CONECTAR CABLE).
*2. Conecte una pieza de mano esterilizada
al generador. Siga las instrucciones del
Manual del usuario hasta que aparezca
en la pantalla “INSERT ELECTRODE”
(INSERTAR ELECTRODO).
3. Si ha seleccionado un Electrodo VAPR FLEX o un
Electrodo VAPR de 2,3 mm, flexione el electrodo
según sea necesario.
*4. Conecte un Electrodo VAPR de DePuy Mitek
nuevo a la pieza de mano. Compruebe que la
pieza de mano y el electrodo estén correctamente
alineados antes de unirlos y ajustar el cierre de
rosca (ver ilustración).
*NOTA: estos pasos no se aplican cuando se
utiliza el Electrodo VAPR de DePuy Mitek con
pieza de mano integrada. En este caso, conecte
la clavija en el extremo del cable integrado
directamente al generador.
5. Para mayor comodidad y seguridad, los
Electrodos VAPR configuran de forma automática
y predeterminada los valores de salida del
generador y limitan los niveles de salida para
proteger la integridad del electrodo. En caso
de requerir niveles de potencia distintos, ajuste
el Generador VAPR a los valores deseados
utilizando las flechas AZUL y AMARILLA de
la parte frontal del generador. Utilice la menor
potencia posible para lograr el efecto final
deseado. Las configuraciones predeterminadas
para cada electrodo son las siguientes:

ATENCIÓN: compruebe que la pantalla del
Generador VAPR coincida con los valores
predeterminados del Electrodo VAPR que se
especifican arriba. De lo contrario, consulte el Manual
del usuario donde encontrará más instrucciones.
6. Bajo visión artroscópica, introduzca con cuidado
el elect odo desactivado en el portal de la
cavidad articular bajo visión directa. Siempre
que sea posible, utilice una cánula para el portal
de acceso.
Coagulación de tejidos blandos con Electrodos
térmicos T VAPR
1. Los Electrodos T VAPR se ajustarán de forma
automática a los niveles bajos de potencia
adecuados para la coagulación térmica. En caso
de requerir niveles de potencia distintos, ajuste
el Generador VAPR a los valores deseados
utilizando las flechas AZUL y AMARILLA de
la parte frontal del mismo y proceda con la
coagulación térmica del modo deseado. Utilice la
menor potencia posible, entre 5 y 30 vatios, para
lograr el efecto deseado.
Cambio de Electrodos VAPR durante
la intervención
1. Extraiga con cuidado el electrodo de la cavidad
articular. No retire el electrodo mientras haya
corriente aplicada.
2. Libere el ensamblaje del conector y suelte el
conector del electrodo y la pieza de mano.
Compruebe que en la pantalla del generador
aparezca el mensaje “INSERT ELECTRODE”
(INSERTAR ELECTRODO). (Nota: no aplicable
a los electrodos con cable integrado. En estos
casos, desconecte el electrodo del generador.)
3. Coloque un electrodo nuevo estéril como se
describió anteriormente. Si los valores del nuevo
electrodo son distintos al anterior, compruebe que
la pantalla del generador coincida con los valores
predeterminados del electrodo especificados
en el folleto. Si los valores del nuevo electrodo
son idénticos a los del anterior, se mantendrán
los valores que aparecían en la pantalla del
generador antes de cambiar el electrodo. Si la
pantalla del generador no se ajusta a lo descrito
más arriba, consulte el Manual del usuario, donde
encontrará más instrucciones.
Después de la intervención
1. Separe el Electrodo VAPR de la Pieza de mano
VAPR. (Nota: no aplicable a los electrodos con
cable integrado.)

2. Desconecte el electrodo/pieza de mano del
generador. En la pantalla aparecerá el símbolo
de “CONNECT CABLE” (CONECTAR CABLE).
Desconecte tirando del enchufe. No tire del cable.
Si lo hace, podría dañar el dispositivo.
3. Puede dejar el generador en el modo de
descanso hasta la siguiente intervención.
Desconecte el generador al final de la jornada.
4. Deseche los electrodos de un solo uso.
5. Prepare los accesorios reutilizables para su
limpieza y esterilización.
Cómo se suministra

solo uso. Los electrodos están disponibles con
diversas configuraciones, valores predeterminados
y flexibilidad.

Conservación

Istruzioni per l’uso
Prima di utilizzare il dispositivo, leggere attentamente
tutte le informazioni, in modo particolare il manuale
dell’utente fornito con il Generatore DePuy Mitek
VAPR. I diversi componenti del Sistema DePuy Mitek
VAPR sono stati studiati per l’utilizzo congiunto come
una singola unità. La mancata osservanza delle
istruzioni può comportare rischi di lesioni elettriche
o termiche e causare il funzionamento difettoso
del dispositivo.
Descrizione del dispositivo
Il Sistema DePuy Mitek VAPR è previsto per
gli interventi chirurgici artroscopici. Il Sistema è
composto da un generatore elettrochirurgico ad
alta frequenza, un manipolo riutilizzabile con cavo
di connessione, elettrodi monouso, un elettrodo
con manipolo integrato e un interruttore a pedale.
I componenti sono stati studiati per il funzionamento
come una singola unità. Con il Sistema DePuy Mitek
VAPR, utilizzare esclusivamente accessori ed
Elettrodi DePuy Mitek VAPR.
AVVERTENZE
• Non toccare la punta dell’elettrodo durante
l’applicazione dell’alimentazione di corrente.
• Non inserire o estrarre l’elettrodo durante
l’applicazione dell’alimentazione di corrente.
• Il movimento o l’attivazione involontaria
dell’elettrodo all’esterno del campo visivo può
comportare lesioni per il paziente.
• Evitare un’attivazione prolungata e immotivata tra
i tessuti, che può causare lesioni non intenzionali.

• Durante l’uso, evitare l’accumulo di bolle nello
spazio dell’articolazione. Tale accumulo attorno
alla punta di lavoro dell’elettrodo diminuisce le
prestazioni e può causare un surriscaldamento
sufficiente a danneggiare le strutture adiacenti.
• Non riutilizzare gli accessori contrassegnati dalla
scritta MONOUSO.
• Rispettando la tecnica artroscopica, assicurarsi
che la punta dell’elettrodo sia completamente
circondata da una soluzione irrigante conduttiva
durante l’uso.
• L’Elettrodo FLEX non deve essere piegato con
un angolo maggiore di 45° rispetto al piano
dello stelo.
• Non modificare la forma dell’Elettrodo FLEX per
più di tre volte sullo stesso punto dello stelo. Più
di tre modifiche angolari possono comportare la
frattura dell’elettrodo.
• L’utilizzo di strumenti per piegare gli elettrodi può
causare danni all’elettrodo FLEX. Per piegare gli
elettrodi, utilizzare solamente le dita.
• Evitare di toccare la punta attiva in ceramica
dell’elettrodo con le dita o con gli strumenti.
• I tentativi di piegatura degli elettrodi non FLEX
da 3,5 mm possono comportare la frattura
dell’elettrodo.
• A causa dello scarso volume di spazio presente
nelle articolazioni più piccole, ad esempio
un polso, può essere necessario abbassare
manualmente le impostazioni di alimentazione
o aumentare il flusso attraverso l’articolazione in
modo da mantenere un adeguato raffreddamento
all’interno dell’articolazione.
PRECAUZIONI
• Utilizzare esclusivamente soluzioni irriganti
conduttive (ad esempio, soluzioni saline o
lattato di Ringer). Non utilizzare irriganti non
conduttivi (ad esempio, acqua sterile, aria, gas,
glicina, ecc.).
• Prima dell’uso, assicurarsi che la base
dell’elettrodo sia completamente alloggiata nel
manipolo. (Nota: non applicabile sugli elettrodi con
cavo integrato.)
• Evitare il contatto del fluido con l’estremità
prossimale dell’interfaccia elettrodo/manipolo.
(Nota: non applicabile sugli elettrodi con
cavo integrato.)
• Quando gli accessori non sono in uso, conservarli
in un’area pulita, asciutta, non conduttiva,
facilmente visibile e lontano dal paziente. Il
contatto involontario con il paziente può causare
ustioni. Il contatto con teli sterili o altri materiali
infiammabili può comportare rischi di incendio.
• Non avvolgere il cavo del manipolo/elettrodo
attorno a oggetti metallici. Il contatto del cavo
con oggetti metallici può indurre correnti con
conseguenti rischi di scosse, incendio o lesioni
per il paziente o il personale chirurgico.
• Durante gli interventi artroscopici, fare attenzione
alle seguenti situazioni di pericolo:
• Come per tutti i dispositivi elettrochirurgici, non
utilizzare in presenza di anestetici infiammabili
o gas ossidanti quali l’ossido nitroso o l’ossigeno.
I dispositivi elettrochirurgici sono potenzialmente
rischiosi come sorgente di combustione. I gas
endogeni che si accumulano nelle cavità corporee
possono parimenti rappresentare una sorgente
di accensione.
• La punta dell’elettrodo può rimanere
sufficientemente calda da causare
ustioni anche dopo la disattivazione della
corrente elettrochirurgica.
• Non attivare l’elettrodo se in contatto con oggetti
e strumenti metallici, in quanto possono verificarsi
lesioni indesiderate dei tessuti.
• Inserire ed estrarre gli elettrodi con estrema
cautela per evitare possibili danni ai dispositivi e/o
lesioni al paziente o al personale chirurgico.
• Il paziente non deve venire in contatto con oggetti
metallici collegati a terra.

• Prima dell’uso iniziale, leggere attentamente
e comprendere a fondo tutti gli inserti illustrativi
della confezione incluse le avvertenze, le
precauzioni e le istruzioni per l’uso. Un intervento
elettrochirurgico sicuro ed efficace dipende non
solo dalle caratteristiche dell’apparecchiatura ma
anche da fattori sotto il diretto controllo dell’utente
(fare riferimento al manuale dell’utente).
• Una forza eccessiva può danneggiare la punta
dell’elettrodo.
IMPORTANTE: questo inserto illustrativo è stato
studiato per le istruzioni per l’uso del Sistema
DePuy Mitek VAPR per artroscopia. Non vuole essere
un riferimento per la tecnica elettrochirurgica.
Indicazioni
Il Sistema elettrochirurgico DePuy Mitek VAPR,
quando utilizzato con un elettrodo VAPR o un
elettrodo VAPR FLEX, è stato progettato per la
resezione, l’ablazione, l’escissione del tessuto molle,
l’emostasi dei vasi sanguigni e la coagulazione dei
tessuti molli in pazienti da sottoporre a chirurgia
artroscopica del ginocchio, della spalla, della caviglia,
del gomito e del polso. Il Sistema elettrochirurgico
DePuy Mitek VAPR, quando utilizzato con un
elettrodo termico VAPR T, è stato progettato per la
coagulazione dei tessuti molli in pazienti da sottoporre
a chirurgia artroscopica del ginocchio, della spalla,
della caviglia, del gomito e del polso.
Controindicazioni
Il Sistema DePuy Mitek VAPR è controindicato in ogni
intervento chirurgico non artroscopico e in interventi
nei quali non si faccia uso di soluzioni saline o di
lattato di Ringer come irriganti. Il sistema non risulta
inoltre appropriato per pazienti per i quali l’intervento
artroscopico sia controindicato per qualsiasi motiva-
zione. L’uso del sistema è inoltre controindicato
in pazienti con pacemaker o altri dispositivi
elettronici impiantati.
Istruzioni per l’uso
• Leggere attentamente tutte le istruzioni. La
mancata osservanza delle istruzioni per l’uso può
causare lesioni termiche o elettriche e comportare
il funzionamento difettoso del dispositivo.
• L’operatore che procede all’intervento deve
conoscere in modo approfondito le tecniche di
chirurgia artroscopica.
• Fare riferimento al manuale dell’utente
per le istruzioni passo-passo relative
all’assemblaggio e alla verifica iniziale
del Sistema DePuy Mitek VAPR.
Come modellare l’Elettrodo FLEX
• Se necessario, utilizzare le dita con cautela per
piegare lo stelo dell’elettrodo FLEX fino a ottenere
la forma desiderata. L’elettrodo può essere piegato
fino a un massimo di 45° e per tre volte distinte
sullo stesso punto.
Come modellare l’Elettrodo VAPR da 2,3 mm
• Se necessario, utilizzare le dita con cautela per
piegare lo stelo dell’Elettrodo da 2,3 mm fino
a ottenere la forma desiderata. L’elettrodo può
essere piegato una volta fino a un massimo di 30°
rispetto al piano dello stelo.
Prima dell’intervento chirurgico
1. Accendere il Generatore DePuy Mitek VAPR.
Seguire le istruzioni nel manuale dell’utente
in modo che il generatore visualizzi il simbolo
“CONNECT CABLE” (COLLEGA IL CAVO).
*2. Collegare un manipolo sterilizzato al
generatore. Seguire le istruzioni nel manuale
dell’utente in modo che il generatore
visualizzi il simbolo “INSERT ELECTRODE”
(INSERISCI L’ELETTRODO).
3. Se è stato scelto un Elettrodo VAPR FLEX o un
Elettrodo VAPR da 2,3 mm, piegare l’elettrodo in
modo conforme.
*4. Collegare un Elettrodo DePuy Mitek VAPR nuovo
al manipolo. Verificare che il manipolo e l’elettrodo
siano allineati correttamente prima di fissarli e di
serrare la vite di bloccaggio (vedere la figura).

*NOTA: tale procedura non si applica quando
si utilizza l’Elettrodo DePuy Mitek VAPR con il
manipolo integrato. In tal caso, collegare la spina
posta all’estremità del cavo integrato direttamente
al generatore.
5. Per motivi di sicurezza e praticità, gli Elettrodi
VAPR si settano automaticamente sul generatore
alle impostazioni predefinite di uscita di potenza e
limitano i livelli di uscita per preservare l’integrità
dell’elettrodo. Se si desidera regolare i livelli
di potenza, utilizzare le frecce BLU e GIALLA
sulla parte anteriore del Generatore VAPR per
ottenere le impostazioni desiderate. Utilizzare la
potenza minore possibile per ottenere l’effetto
finale desiderato. Le impostazioni predefinite per
ciascun elettrodo sono le seguenti:

ATTENZIONE: verificare che la visualizzazione
sul Generatore VAPR corrisponda all’impostazione
predefinita dell’Elettrodo VAPR, come sopra
riportato. Se l’impostazione visualizzata non corri-
sponde all’impostazione predefinita dell’Elettrodo
VAPR, fare riferimento al manuale dell’utente per
ulteriori istruzioni.
6. Rispettando la tecnica artroscopica, inserire
con cautela l’elettrodo non ancora attivato
nell’ingresso della cavità dell’articolazione sotto
controllo visivo diretto. Se possibile, utilizzare
sempre una cannula per strumenti per il portale
di accesso.
Esecuzione della coagulazione del tessuto molle
con Elettrodi termici VAPR T
1. Gli Elettrodi VAPR T si impostano automatica-
mente sui livelli di potenza minimi adatti per la
coagulazione termica. Se si desidera regolare
i livelli di potenza, utilizzare le frecce BLU e
GIALLA sulla parte anteriore del Generatore
VAPR per ottenere le impostazioni desiderate e
quindi procedere con la coagulazione termica nel
modo desiderato. Utilizzare la potenza minore
possibile, con intervallo da 5 a 30 watt, per
ottenere l’effetto finale desiderato.

Sostituzione degli Elettrodi VAPR durante
l’intervento chirurgico
1. Estrarre con cautela l’elettrodo dalla cavità
dell’articolazione. Non rimuovere l’elettrodo
durante l’applicazione dell’alimentazione
di corrente.
2. Sbloccare il gruppo di connessione e separare il
connettore dell’elettrodo dal manipolo. Verificare
che il generatore visualizzi il simbolo “INSERT
ELECTRODE” (INSERISCI L’ELETTRODO).
(Nota: non applicabile sugli elettrodi con cavo
integrato. In tali casi, scollegare l’elettrodo
dal generatore.)
3. Inserire un elettrodo sterile nuovo come
indicato precedentemente. Se il nuovo elettrodo
dispone di impostazioni predefinite differenti
rispetto all’elettrodo sostituito, verificare che la
visualizzazione sul generatore corrisponda alle
impostazioni predefinite specificate nell’inserto
illustrativo dell’elettrodo. Se il nuovo elettrodo
dispone di impostazioni predefinite identiche
all’elettrodo sostituito, il generatore manterrà
le impostazioni precedentemente visualizzate
prima della sostituzione dell’elettrodo. Se la
visualizzazione sul generatore non è conforme
alla descrizione sopra riportata, fare riferimento al
manuale dell’utente per ulteriori istruzioni.
Dopo l’intervento chirurgico
1. Disassemblare l’Elettrodo VAPR dal Manipolo
VAPR. (Nota: non applicabile sugli elettrodi con
cavo integrato.)
2. Scollegare l’elettrodo/manipolo dal generatore.
Il generatore dovrà ora visualizzare il simbolo
“CONNECT CABLE” (COLLEGA IL CAVO).
Scollegare tirando il corpo della spina. Non
scollegare tirando il cavo per evitare di causare
danni al dispositivo.
3. Negli intervalli tra interventi chirurgici, il
generatore può essere lasciato in modalità di
attesa. Spegnere il generatore a conclusione
dell’ultimo intervento previsto per la giornata.
4. Smaltire l’elettrodo (o elettrodi) monouso.
5. Predisporre gli accessori riutilizzabili per le
operazioni di pulizia e sterilizzazione.
Confezionamento
Gli elettrodi utilizzati nel Sistema DePuy Mitek VAPR
sono forniti sterili e sono monouso. Gli elettrodi sono
disponibili in diverse configurazioni, impostazioni
predefinite e flessibilità.
Importante: il contenuto è fornito sterile, a meno
che la confezione non sia aperta o danneggiata.
Non risterilizzare.
Conservazione
Conservare a temperature inferiori a 25 °C e lontano
da umidità e calore diretto. Non utilizzare oltre la data
di scadenza.

Bitte alle Informationen vor Inbetriebnahme des
Geräts aufmerksam durchlesen, insbesondere

DePuy Mitek VAPR Systems sind zur gemeinsamen
Verwendung als Gesamtgerät gedacht. Wird die

zu Verletzungen durch Elektrizität oder Wärme sowie
Fehlfunktionen des Geräts kommen.
Beschreibung
Das DePuy Mitek VAPR System ist für arthro-
skopische chirurgische Verfahren vorgesehen.
Es besteht aus einem elektrochirurgischen
Hochfrequenzgenerator, einem wiederverwendbaren
Handgriff mit Steckerkabel, Einmal-Elektroden,
einer Elektrode mit intergriertem Handgriff und
einem Fußschalter. Alle Komponenten sind zur
gemeinsamen Verwendung als Gesamtgerät
vorgesehen. In Verbindung mit dem DePuy Mitek
VAPR System dürfen nur DePuy Mitek VAPR
Elektroden und Zubehörteile verwendet werden.
WARNHINWEISE
• Nicht die Elektrodenspitze berühren, wenn das
Gerät unter Strom steht.
• Bei angelegter Spannung darf die Elektrode
weder eingeführt noch herausgezogen werden.
• Durch unbeabsichtigte Aktivierung oder Bewegung
der Elektrode außerhalb des Sichtfeldes besteht
für den Patienten Verletzungsgefahr.
• Unnötige und längere Aktivierungen zwischen den
Anwendungen im Gewebe vermeiden, da dies zu
unbeabsichtigten Verletzungen führen kann.
• Während der Anwendung die Ansammlung
von Blasen in der Gelenkhöhle vermeiden.
Die Ansammlung von Blasen im Umfeld der
Arbeitsspitze der Elektrode mindert die Leistung
und kann durch Überhitzung angrenzende
Gewebestrukturen schädigen.
• Zubehörteile mit der Beschriftung ZUR
EINMALIGEN VERWENDUNG sind
nicht wiederzuverwenden.
• Unter Verwendung arthroskopischer Techniken
sicherstellen, dass die Spitze der Elektrode
während des Gebrauchs vollständig von leitender
Spülflüssigkeit umgeben ist.
• Beim Biegen der FLEX Elektrode nicht mehr als
45° von der Schaftebene abweichen.
• Die FLEX Elektrode nicht mehr als dreimal an
der gleichen Schaftstelle biegen. Mehr als drei
Winkeländerungen an der gleichen Stelle können
zum Bruch der Elektrode führen.
• Die FLEX Elektroden nur mit den Fingern
biegen, da die Elektroden bei Gebrauch anderer
Instrumente beschädigt werden können.
• Keramikteile und aktive Spitze der Elektrode nicht
mit Fingern oder Instrumenten berühren.
• Es sollte nicht versucht werden, andere als
3,5 mm FLEX Elektroden zu biegen, da diese
sonst zerbrechen können.
• Da in kleineren Gelenken wie der Handwurzel
nur ein entsprechend kleiner Gelenkraum
zur Verfügung steht, muss entweder die
Abgabeleistung des VAPR Generators
manuell verringert oder die Durchflussmenge
der Spülflüssigkeit erhöht werden, um eine
adäquate Kühlung der Gelenkzwischenräume
zu gewährleisten.
SICHERHEITSHINWEISE
• Nur leitende Spülflüssigkeiten (z. B.
Kochsalzlösung, Ringer-Laktat-Lösung usw.)
verwenden. Keine nichtleitenden Spülflüssigkeiten
(z. B. steriles Wasser, Luft, Gas, Glyzin
usw.) verwenden.
• Vor Gebrauch sicherstellen, dass die Elektrode
fest in den Handgriff eingesetzt ist. (Hinweis: Nicht
zutreffend bei Elektroden mit integriertem Kabel.)
• Flüssigkeitskontakt mit dem zum Patienten
gerichteten Ende der Elektroden/Handgriff-
Verbindung vermeiden. (Hinweis: Nicht zutreffend
bei Elektroden mit integriertem Kabel.)
• Alle nicht benötigten Zubehörteile an einem
sauberen, trockenen, nichtleitenden Ort gut
sichtbar und für den Patienten unzugänglich
aufbewahren. Unbeabsichtigter Kontakt mit dem
Patienten kann zu Verbrennungen führen. Bei
Kontakt mit Tüchern oder anderen entflammbaren
Materialien besteht Brandgefahr.

• Das Kabel des Handstücks/der Elektrode nicht
um Metallgegenstände wickeln. Dadurch können
elektrische Ströme entstehen, die Stromschlag,
Feuer oder Verletzungen bei Patienten bzw. dem
chirurgischen Personal verursachen können.
• Bei arthroskopischen Verfahren ist auf die
folgenden Gefahrenquellen zu achten:
• Wie bei allen elektrochirurgischen Geräten
dieses Gerät nicht bei Anwesenheit von
entflammbaren Anästhetika oder brandfördernden
Gasen wie Lachgas oder Sauerstoff einsetzen.
Elektrochirurgische Geräte können einen
Brandherd darstellen. Auch im Körper entstehende
endogene Gase können entflammbar sein.
• Die Spitze der Elektrode kann auch nach
Abschalten des elektrochirurgischen Stroms
immer noch so heiß sein, dass sie Verbrennungen
verursachen kann.
• Die Elektrode nicht aktivieren, solange Kontakt mit
Metallgegenständen oder -instrumenten besteht,
da dies zu unbeabsichtigten Gewebeverletzungen
führen kann.
• Beim Einführen und Herausziehen der
Elektroden vorsichtig vorgehen, um mögliche
Beschädigungen des Geräts und/oder
Verletzungsgefahr für Patienten oder chirurgisches
Personal zu vermeiden.
• Der Patient darf nicht mit geerdeten
Metallgegenständen in Kontakt kommen.
• Sicherstellen, dass vor der erstmaligen
Verwendung alle Packungsbeilagen
einschließlich Warn- und Sicherheitshinweisen
sowie Gebrauchsanweisungen gelesen
wurden. Sicherheit und Wirksamkeit von
elektrochirurgischen Eingriffen hängen nicht nur
von den verwendeten Geräten, sondern auch vom
Benutzer ab (siehe Benutzerhandbuch).
• Die Elektrodenspitze kann durch übermäßigen
Kraftaufwand beschädigt werden.
WICHTIG: Diese Packungsbeilage enthält lediglich
Informationen für die Verwendung des DePuy Mitek
VAPR Systems. Sie stellt keine Empfehlung für
elektrochirurgische Operationstechniken dar.
Indikationen
Wird das DePuy Mitek VAPR Elektrochirurgie-
System in Verbindung mit der VAPR Elektrode
oder VAPR FLEX Elektrode verwendet, ist es zur
Resektion, Ablösung, Exzision und Koagulation von
Weichgewebe sowie Hämostase von Blutgefäßen bei
Patienten bestimmt, bei denen eine arthroskopische
Operation an Knie, Schulter, Knöchel, Ellbogen oder
Handgelenk erforderlich ist. Wird das DePuy Mitek
VAPR Elektrochirurgie-System in Verbindung mit
der VAPR T Thermo-Elektrode verwendet, ist es
zur Koagulation von Weichgewebe bei Patienten
bestimmt, bei denen eine arthroskopische Operation
an Knie, Schulter, Knöchel, Ellbogen oder Handgelenk
erforderlich ist.
Kontraindikationen
Das DePuy Mitek VAPR System ist kontraindiziert
bei nichtarthroskopischen chirurgischen Verfahren
und bei Verfahren, bei denen keine Kochsalzlösung
oder Ringer-Laktat-Lösung zur Spülung verwendet
wird. Das System ist nicht für Patienten geeignet,
bei denen arthroskopische Verfahren kontraindiziert
sind. Die Verwendung des Systems ist außerdem
kontraindiziert bei Patienten mit Herzschrittmachern
oder anderen elektronischen Implantaten.
Gebrauchsanweisung
• Bitte alle Informationen aufmerksam durchlesen.
Wird die Gebrauchsanweisung nicht korrekt
befolgt, kann es zu Verletzungen durch
Elektrizität oder Wärme sowie Fehlfunktionen
des Geräts kommen.
• Der Operateur muss mit arthroskopischen
Verfahrenstechniken vertraut sein.
• Schrittweise Anleitungen für den Zusammenbau
und die Funktionsprüfung des DePuy Mitek VAPR

Formen der FLEX Elektrode
• Bei Bedarf den Schaft der FLEX Elektrode

Form biegen. Die Elektrode kann dreimal an der
gleichen Stelle bis zu 45° gebogen werden.
Formen der 2,3 mm VAPR Elektrode
• Bei Bedarf den Schaft der 2,3 mm Elektrode
vorsichtig mit den Fingern in die gewünschte
Form biegen. Die Elektrode kann einmal in einem
Winkel von höchstens 30° zur Schaftebene
gebogen werden.
Vor der Operation
1. Den DePuy Mitek VAPR Generator einschalten.
Die Anleitungen im Benutzerhandbuch befolgen,
so dass der Generator „CONNECT CABLE“
(KABEL ANSCHLIESSEN) anzeigt.
*2. Einen sterilen Handgriff an den Generator
anschließen. Die Anleitungen im Benutzer-
handbuch befolgen, so dass der Generator
„INSERT ELECTRODE“ (ELEKTRODE
EINSETZEN) anzeigt.
3. Eine VAPR FLEX Elektrode oder eine 2,3 mm
VAPR Elektrode kann bei Bedarf gebogen werden.
*4. Nun eine neue DePuy Mitek VAPR Elektrode
in das Handstück einsetzen. Sicherstellen,
dass der Handgriff und die Elektrode korrekt
ausgerichtet sind, bevor sie ineinander gesteckt
und festgeschraubt werden (siehe Abbildung).
*HINWEIS: Diese Schritte treffen nicht bei
Verwendung der DePuy Mitek VAPR Elektrode mit
integriertem Handgriff zu. In diesem Fall wird der
Stecker am Ende des integrierten Kabels direkt an
den Generator angeschlossen.
5. Aus Sicherheitsgründen und zur einfacheren
Handhabung setzen VAPR Elektroden den
Generator automatisch auf die Standardleistungs-
einstellungen und begrenzen die Leistungswerte,
damit die Elektrode nicht beschädigt wird.
Wenn alternative Abgabeleistungen gewünscht
sind, kann der VAPR Generator mit Hilfe der
BLAUEN und GELBEN Pfeiltasten an der
Vorderseite des VAPR Generators auf die
gewünschten Werte eingestellt werden. Arbeiten
Sie mit einer möglichst niedrigen Leistung,
um den gewünschten Effekt zu erzielen. Die
Standardeinstellungen für die Elektroden lauten
wie folgt:

VORSICHT: Überprüfen, ob die Anzeige des VAPR
Generator-Displays mit den oben angegebenen
Standardeinstellungen der VAPR Elektrode
übereinstimmt. Stimmt die Anzeige des Generator-
Displays nicht mit den Standardeinstellungen
der Elektrode überein, die Anleitungen im
Benutzerhandbuch befolgen.
6. Unter Verwendung arthroskopischer Techniken
die nicht-aktivierte Elektrode vorsichtig bei
direkter Sicht in die Gelenkhöhle einführen.
Nach Möglichkeit für den Zugang eine
Instrumentenkanüle verwenden.
Weichgewebekoagulation mit VAPR T
Thermo-Elektroden
1. VAPR T Elektroden arbeiten automatisch auf
einer für die Thermo-Koagulation geeigneten,
niedrigen Leistungsstufe. Andere Leistungsstufen
können durch Betätigen der BLAUEN und
GELBEN Pfeiltasten an der Vorderseite des
VAPR Generators eingestellt werden; die Thermo-
Koagulation kann wie gewünscht durchgeführt
werden. Die Leistung des Geräts soweit wie
möglich reduzieren, der gewünschte Effekt wird
im Bereich von etwa 5 bis 30 Watt erzielt.
Auswechseln von VAPR Elektroden während
der Operation
1. Die Elektrode vorsichtig aus der Gelenkhöhle
ziehen. Die Elektrode nicht bei angelegter
Spannung entfernen.
2. Die Steckerverbindung lockern und die Elektrode
aus dem Handgriff entfernen. Überprüfen, ob der
Generator „INSERT ELECTRODE“ (ELEKTRODE
EINSETZEN) anzeigt. (Hinweis: Nicht zutreffend
bei Elektroden mit integriertem Kabel. In diesem
Fall die Elektrode vom Generator abziehen.)
3. Wie oben beschrieben eine neue Elektrode
einsetzen. Sollte die neue Elektrode andere
Standardeinstellungen haben als die zuvor
verwendete Elektrode, ist zu überprüfen,
ob die Anzeige des Generator-Displays mit
den auf der Packungsbeilage angegebenen
Standardeinstellungen der Elektrode überein-
stimmt. Stimmen die Standardeinstellungen
der neuen Elektrode mit denen der zuvor
benutzten überein, behält der Generator die
Einstellungen bei, die vor dem Auswechseln
der Elektrode angezeigt wurden. Stimmt die
Anzeige des Generators nicht mit der obigen
Beschreibung überein, die Anleitungen
im Benutzerhandbuch befolgen.
Nach der Operation
1. Die VAPR Elektrode aus dem VAPR Handgriff
entfernen. (Hinweis: Nicht zutreffend bei
Elektroden mit integriertem Kabel.)
2. Die Verbindung der Elektrode/des Handgriffs
zum Generator lösen. Der Generator zeigt nun
„CONNECT CABLE“ (KABEL ANSCHLIESSEN)
an. Am Stecker ziehen. Nicht am Kabel ziehen,
da dadurch das Gerät beschädigt werden könnte.
3. Zwischen chirurgischen Eingriffen kann der
Generator in der Betriebsart „Standby“ verbleiben.
Am Ende des Arbeitstages sollte der Generator
jedoch abgeschaltet werden.
4. Einmal-Elektroden entsorgen.
5. Wiederverwendbare Zubehörteile zur Reinigung
und Sterilisation vorbereiten.

Lieferung
Die Elektroden für das DePuy Mitek VAPR System
werden steril geliefert und sind zur einmaligen
Verwendung vorgesehen. Die Elektroden sind in einer
Vielzahl von Konfigurationen, Standardeinstellungen
und Biegsamkeitsgraden erhältlich.
Wichtig: Der Inhalt ist steril, es sei denn, die
Verpackung wurde geöffnet oder beschädigt.
Nicht resterilisieren.
Lagerung
Nicht über 25 °C lagern, vor Feuchtigkeit und
direkter Wärme schützen. Nicht nach dem
Verfallsdatum verwenden.

Mode d’emploi
Prière de lire attentivement l’ensemble des
informations avant d’utiliser le dispositif, en particulier
le Manuel d’utilisation fourni avec le générateur
DePuy Mitek VAPR. Les différents composants du
système DePuy Mitek VAPR sont conçus pour être
utilisés ensemble, en tant que système unique.
Ne pas respecter les instructions suivantes peut
provoquer un fonctionnement défectueux du dispositif,
une électrocution ou des brûlures.
Description du dispositif
Le système DePuy Mitek VAPR est conçu pour
des procédures chirurgicales arthroscopiques. Le
système comprend un générateur électrochirurgical
à haute fréquence, une poignée réutilisable
équipée d’un câble de connexion, des électrodes
à usage unique avec ou sans poignée intégrée et
une pédale de commande. Les composants sont
conçus et prévus pour être utilisés en tant qu’unité
indissociable. Utiliser uniquement des électrodes
et accessoires DePuy Mitek VAPR avec le système
DePuy Mitek VAPR.
MISES EN GARDE
• Ne pas toucher l’extrémité de l’électrode
lorsqu’elle est électriquement activée.
• Ne pas insérer ou retirer l’électrode lorsqu’elle est
électriquement activée.
• L’activation ou le déplacement accidentels de
l’électrode en dehors du champ de vision peut
conduire à une blessure du patient.
• Éviter des activations prolongées et inutiles entre
les applications sur les tissus. Le non-respect
de cette mise en garde risque de provoquer des
blessures accidentelles.
• Éviter l’accumulation de bulles dans l’espace
articulaire lors de l’utilisation du dispositif.
L’accumulation de bulles autour de l’extrémité
de l’électrode diminue l’efficacité et risque
de provoquer une surchauffe susceptible
d’endommager les structures adjacentes.
• Ne pas réutiliser un accessoire portant l’indication
USAGE UNIQUE.
• Sous contrôle arthroscopique, s’assurer que
l’extrémité de l’électrode baigne complètement
dans la solution d’irrigation conductrice lors
de l’utilisation.
• Lors de la courbure de l’électrode FLEX, ne pas
dépasser un angle de 45° par rapport au plan
de l’axe.
