Design Features
The valve is designed specifically for use with 3/4″(1.9 cm) top spud
washout urinals as offered by Kohler Company and others. It is not
designed for use with blowout or siphon jet flushing systems.
The valve is supplied with factory preset timing values. No
programming or adjustment is required.
Depending upon use, the lithium battery can be expected to last for
two or three years before replacement is required.
Flush Operations
NOTE: The pre-flush feature can be disabled if desired using a
magnetic key. For more information, call Kohler Customer Service at
1-800-4-KOHLER from 7 AM to 6 PM Central Standard Time or
order online 24 hours at www.kohler.com.
The Exposed Electronic Urinal Valve provides the following flushing
operations:
An automatic pre-flush operation: Shortly after the individual
approaches the urinal, the valve provides a preliminary flush that
lasts just a few seconds.
An automatic main flush operation: Shortly after the individual
departs the urinal, the valve provides a main flush that lasts for
several seconds.
An automatic 24-hour flush operation: Once every 24-hours, the
valve produces a full flush.
Vandalism Protection
Your Kohler urinal valve has a vandal resistant feature. If the sensor
detects a continuous presence for 180 seconds, it enters the vandal
resistant state. In this state, it immediately performs a normal flush but
does not flush again until the sensor does not detect a presence. The
valve returns to the normal state if there is no target detected for more
than two seconds. When it goes to normal state, it performs a normal
flush.
Low Battery Indication
The lithium battery can be expected to last for two or three years
before replacement is required. When the battery reaches a certain
point in its lifetime, the valve announces the low battery condition by

beeping whenever a user is in range. The battery is easily replaced as
described in the section ″Replace the Battery″in this guide.
Replacement batteries can be purchased from drugstores or other stores
stocking batteries used for photography. The battery is a 6.0 volt 1300
mAh Lithium battery with model numbers of 2CR5, DL245, EL2CR5,
KL2CR5, or 2CR5M.
Failed DC Sensor Indication
The Exposed Electronic Urinal Valve also provides a warning
indication when the unit determines that the DC sensor has failed. If
the DC sensor has failed, the unit beeps once every five minutes. The
DC sensor is easily replaced as described below. Refer to the service
parts section for the part number.
Seasonal Use
The Exposed Electronic Urinal Valve is not designed for operation in
freezing conditions. If freezing conditions are expected, isolate and
drain the urinal valve along with whatever other winterization steps
are taken for the facility.
Mobile Use
The Exposed Electronic Urinal Valve is not designed for use in moving
environments such as boats.
Care and Cleaning
Like anything of lasting quality, Kohler valves and fittings require a
certain amount of periodic care to preserve their lustrous finish. Clean
your new Kohler valve and fittings with a soft sponge and a mild
soap. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a clean, soft
cloth. The ideal cleaning technique is to blot dry any water from metal
surfaces. Allowing water to evaporate on metal will form water
deposits. It is important to use a dabbing action to dry metal, not an
abrasive or rubbing action.
Never use cleaners containing abrasive cleansers, ammonia, bleach,
acids, or other corrosive chemicals that can damage the finish. Do not
use dishwashing detergent or other cleaners with a pH outside of the
range of 6 to 9. By taking the time to dry your faucet often, soap and
water deposits can be prevented.
Clean the DC Sensor frequently for faultless operation.

Failure to comply with these cleaning instructions may void Kohler’s
warranty obligations.
How to Use this Manual
This manual is designed to help you troubleshoot and repair any
problems that may develop with the operation of the urinal valve.
If a problem occurs:
Refer to the Troubleshooting section to determine a probable
cause.
Follow the maintenance and repair instructions in this manual to
correct the problem.
Check the Service Parts section to determine the part numbers for
any replacement parts necessary.
Use the information on the back cover of this manual to contact
Kohler Company to order parts, or for help if you cannot correct
the problem.

Control Stop Valve Operation
NOTE: Use a flat-bladed screwdriver in order to remove the cap and
to adjust the valve position.
Use the following steps in order to open or close the control stop
valve:
Use the screwdriver to pry the vandal resistant cap from the
control stop valve.
Close the stop valve by turning the valve screw clockwise until
the end of travel is reached.
Open the stop valve by turning the valve screw counterclockwise
until the end of travel is reached.
When done, place the cap on the control stop valve and gently
tap into place using the screwdriver handle.

Remove the DC Sensor or Sensor Clip
NOTE: Replacement batteries can be purchased from drugstores.
The battery is a 6.0 volt 1300 mAh Lithium battery with model
numbers of 2CR5, DL245, EL2CR5, KL2CR5, or 2CR5M.
Perform the following steps to remove the DC sensor and battery:
Close the control stop valve (refer to the ″Control Stop Valve
Operations″section).
Using the supplied hex head wrench, remove the screw from the
valve cap.
Remove the cap by lifting from the valve body.
Disconnect the plug to the solenoid by pulling the connectors
apart.
Position the cap on its side and look inside.
Using needle nosed or equivalent tool, grasp the plastic clip that
holds the DC sensor in place in the cap.
Pull the clip from the cap.
Turn the cap over and slide the sensor into your hand.
NOTE: The lithium battery inside the sensor may be considered
hazardous waste. Discard the old sensor in accordance with any
applicable codes.
If replacing the DC sensor, discard the old DC sensor and battery.

Replace the Battery
NOTE: If replacing the sensor, adapt this procedure to install a
battery in the new sensor unit before installing the sensor.
Perform the following steps in order to replace the battery:
If required, remove the sensor from the cap as described in the
″To Remove the DC Sensor″section.
Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws from
the back of the DC sensor.
Using a sharp edged screwdriver or knife, insert the tip of the
tool between the side of the DC sensor unit and the back cover at
the little white tab. Pry the back cover out and lift the cover off of
the DC sensor.
If necessary, use a small flat bladed screwdriver to pry the battery
from the DC sensor.
NOTE: The lithium battery may be considered hazardous waste.
Discard the old battery in accordance with any applicable codes.
Remove and discard the old battery.
Align the new battery so that the metal poles on the battery will
contact the metal electrodes in the DC sensor.
Install the new battery in the DC sensor and push it into place
until it snaps over the side tab.
Replace the cover, pressing until it snaps into place on both sides.

CAUTION: Risk of property damage. Do not over tighten the
screws as plastic threads can be readily damaged.
Use a small Phillips screwdriver to install the two screws for the
DC sensor cover.

Install the DC Sensor or Sensor Clip
NOTE: The DC sensor must be installed as shown in the
illustration.
Hold the cap horizontally with the sensing holes down and align
the DC sensor assembly with the cap.
Slide the DC sensor assembly into the cap small-side first until
the sensor eyes align with the holes in the cap.
Insert the clip between the back of the DC sensor and the case in
the orientation shown. Push it in until the bottom of the tab stops
on the sensor.
NOTE: Align the arrows on both connectors for proper alignment.
Connect the DC sensor connector to the solenoid connector on the
valve.
CAUTION: Risk of property damage. Ensure that the unit’s
wires are not caught between the cap and the valve body.
Place the cap on the valve body and install the hex head screw.
Open the control stop valve (refer to the ″Control Stop Valve
Operations″section).
Replace the vandal resistant cap on the control stop.
Verify the urinal valve’s function.
