Konica Minolta Scanning Setup Guide

Folder Sharing on XP (SMB)
1) Create a folder on the C Drive. For the purpose of the scanning
documents I have created a folder called ‘Scans’ with the share name of
‘Scans’.
2) Right click on that folder and open ‘Sharing and Security’
On Windows XP there are two different types of sharing. The first type of
sharing is called ‘Simple File Sharing’. By clicking Tools\Folder Options\View
you can turn this option on by putting a tick in the box clicking “Apply” and
then OK.

If you are using Simple File Sharing you must make sure ‘Share this folder on
the network’ and ‘Allow Network Users to Change my Files’ boxes are ticked
as below.
The alternative is to set permissions. For whatever permissions you set you
need to make sure the folder is shared with ‘Full Control’ ticked under the
‘Permissions’ button.

You are now ready to configure your Konica Minolta device.

Folder Sharing on Vista (SMB)
1) Create a folder on the C Drive of your computer.
2) Right click on that folder and click on ‘Share’

3) Choose the user that you are allowing to have access to this folder.
This can either be the user name that is used to log in to the PC every
morning or you can create a new user specifically for scan to SMB. For the
purpose of this guide I am using a user called ‘hotline’.
5) Click on the ‘Permission Level’ arrow next to the user you have added.
Choose ‘Contributor’ from the list of options.
6) Next click ‘Share’ and then ‘Done’
You are now ready to configure your Konica Minolta device.

Folder Sharing on Server 2008 (SMB)
1. Open Network and Sharing Centre and enable Public Folder Sharing
2. Note - if at any point the message shows as per screen shot select
setting appropriate to your Network.

3. Select Settings to enable Public Folder Sharing as screenshot or as
appropriate to your network. You will also need to enable Network
Discovery if not done so already via a windows prompt. Once done
close Window.
4. Select the folder you wish to share on the hard drive right click and select
“Share”

4. In the dialogue box type “Everyone” then click “Add”
5. “Everyone” will now be in the lower dialogue window below
Administrator right click “Everyone” and select “Co-owner” as per
screenshot and then Click “Share”.

6. Click “Done” – your folder is now shared as shown in the dialogue
window.
You are now ready to configure your Konica Minolta device.

Configuring the Konica device
There are two ways to configure SMB Sharing on Konica Device
1. Via the control panel on the device itself the method will vary from
model to model but is generally similar on most devices.
2. Through the web interface on a network connected workstation.
Method 1- via the control panel.
1. Press the “Menu” button
2. Press the “Utility” button
3. Select Option 1 “One Touch/User Box Registration
4. Select Option 1 “Create One Touch Destination”
5. Select Option 1 “Address book (Public)”
6. Select Option 4 “PC (SMB)”
7. You are now shown the public address book press new to register
a new address.
8. Enter a number name hostname path username and password in
the following screens. On page 3 there is a reference button that
will scan the network for hosts and shared directories. Once a
hostname has been found and a valid username/password has
been supplied you should be able to browse to a destination folder.
Should this fail you can enter a hostname and path manually –
backslashes are not necessary .
Method 2 – via the Web Interface
1. Open a web browser and enter the machines IP address into the
address bar. You should now see the web based interface. – Click
“Store Address”

2. Click “New Registration”
3. Select “SMB” and click OK
4. Enter all the required information in the relevant places – note you
do not need to include backslashes in host or path.
Click “Ok” when complete.
Test as appropriate.

roubleshooting connection issues
Firewalls can and will block SMB traffic on some networks – Corporate
security suites generally cause fewer issues than SOHO products such as
MacAfee and Norton but its always prudent to check.
Look in the taskbar for security programs and temporarily disable firewalls
and re-test. If the scans are successful get the client to talk to their IT
department and discuss adding a allow rule or trust entry for the copier.
Best Practice for scanning to a central server
When creating a user account for the device try to avoid using an account
where the password changes frequently this will reduce IT overhead in
having to constantly update the machine with a new password.
It is also unwise to user the administrator account although this can be the
simplest way to ensure you are able to scan will full disk access permissions
there could be security implications.
The best way to configure an active directory account for scanning is to
create a specialist account i.e. “Scan” with a strong password that never
expires.
The destination scans directory should have general read permissions for all
intended users but give scan “full control” and ensure NTFS permissions are
correct within the security tab.
Finally ensure the destination directory is placed where it won’t be inheriting
any parent permissions.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 both have additional sharing security options
built in. It may be prudent to disable this function before trying to setup the
scanning username and password.
This can be achieved by opening the network and sharing centre (right click
the LAN connection and left click open network and sharing centre)
On the left hand pane click change advanced sharing settings.
Scroll down to “Password Protected Sharing” and click the radio box for “turn
off password protected sharing”
Re-try sending the scan.
