Informationen zum Vorbild
Die Drehstrom-Pionierin. Die Baureihe 120 markiert den tech-
nologischen Umbruch auf Drehstromantriebe. Dieses Prinzip
verspricht kompakte, weitgehend verschleißfrei arbeitende
Motoren ohne Kollektoren, Schleifringe, Bürsten und mechani-
sche Kontakte. Weil sich mit der Drehstromtechnik ein breites
Drehmoment- und Drehzahlband beherrschen lässt, ist das
Lastenheft für diese Neuentwicklung wunschzettelmäßig breit
abgefasst. Die BR 120 soll 200 km/h schnelle InterCity-Züge und
5.400 t schwere Güterzüge ziehen, außerdem mit Wendezugsteu-
erung und elektrischer Nutzbremse ausgerüstet sein.
Die DB bestellt 1977 fünf Versuchsmaschinen, die auf Prüfstän-
den, bei Versuchsfahrten und im Betriebseinsatz eingehend er-
probt werden. Vergleichstests mit anderen Lokfabrikaten sowie
Anfahrversuche an den Lötschberg- und Semmering-Rampen
bestätigen die Leistungsfähigkeit der Technik. Der Geschwin-
digkeitsrekord liegt bei 265 km/h. Während der Versuchsphase
fließen Neuentwicklungen ein, zum Beispiel Mikroprozessoren
zur schnelleren Regelung. Immer wieder werden Komponenten
verbessert, bis alle fünf Maschinen 1982 technisch auf den
gleichen Stand gebracht werden und die Serienreife erhalten.
Während der mehrjährigen Entwicklungsphase hat sich jedoch
die Beschaffungspolitik geändert. Statt Allround-Loks bevorzugt
man wieder Spezialloks auf Basis gemeinsamer Entwicklungs-
plattformen mit vielen baugleichen Teilen. Von der BR 120 wird
deshalb nur eine erste Bauserie von 60 Stück beschafft. Die
Prototypen werden weiterhin für die Erprobung genutzt, die
Serienlokomotiven bewähren sich im täglichen Bahnbetrieb.
Informations concernant la locomotive réele
The Three-Phase Pioneer. The class 120 marked the technolo-
gical breakthrough to three-phase current propulsion systems.
This principle carried with it the promise of compact, largely
non-wearing motors without commutators, wear rings, brushes,
and mechanical contacts. Because a broad range of torque and
speed could be mastered with three-phase current technolo-
gy, the performance specifications for this new development
were formulated rather like a long wish list. The class 120 was
intended to pull 200 km/h / 125 mph fast InterCity trains and
5,400 metric ton freight trains, and was also to be equipped with
push/pull controls and electric regenerative brakes.
In 1977, the DB ordered five experimental units that were
exhaustively probed on test stands, during test runs, and
in operational use. Comparison tests with other makes of
locomotives as well as start-up tests on the Lötschberg and
Semmering grades confirmed the performance capabilities of
the technology. The speed record was 265 km/h / 166 mph. New
developments flowed in during the experimental phases such as
microprocessors for faster control and monitoring. Components
were improved again and again until all five units were brought
to the same technical level in 1982 and were pronounced ready
for regular production.
During the development phase of several years the procure-
ment policy changed. Instead of all-round locomotives, special
locomotives were again preferred on the basis of common
development platforms with many parts identical in construc-
tion. Only a first production run of 60 units of the class 120 was
purchased. The prototypes continue to be used for test purpo-
ses, and the regular production locomotives prove themselves in
daily operation.

Information about the Prototype
La pionnière du courant triphasé. La série 120 marque le tournant
technologique vers les moteurs triphasés. Ce principe promet des
moteurs compacts fonctionnant en grande partie sans frottements,
sans collecteurs, bague collectrice, balais et contacts mécaniques.
La technique du courant triphasé permettant de maîtriser une large
bande de couples et de tours-minutes, le cahier des charges relatif
à cette nouvelle conception contient une liste conséquente de desi-
derata. La BR 120 est censée remorquer des trains InterCity roulant
à une vitesse de 200 km/h et des trains marchandises de 5400 t ; elle
doit en outre être équipée d’une commande pour rames réversibles
et de freins électriques à récupération.
En 1977, la DB commande cinq machines d’essai qui sont testées
de manière approfondie sur des bancs d’essai, lors de marches
d’essai et en service commercial. Des tests comparatifs avec
d’autres locomotives ainsi que des essais de démarrage sur les
rampes du Lötschberg et du Semmering confirment la perfor-
mance de la technique. Le record de vitesse est de 265 km/h.
Durant la période d’essai arrivent des innovations, telles que les
microprocesseurs, permettant une régulation plus rapide. Des
composants sont régulièrement améliorés, jusqu’à ce que les
cinq machines soient mises à un niveau technique identique en
1982 et que la production en série puisse donc commencer.
Durant cette phase de conception qui dura plusieurs années, la
politique d’acquisition a toutefois changé. Aux locomotives uni-
verselles sont à nouveau préférées les locomotives spécialisées
sur la base de plates-formes de conception communes avec de
nombreuses pièces identiques. L’acquisition se limite donc à la
première série de la BR 120 de 60 unités. Les prototypes sont
toujours utilisés pour les essais et les locomotives de série font
leurs preuves dans l’exploitation ferroviaire quotidienne.

compacte, in hoge mate slijtagearm werkende motoren zonder
collectoren, sleepringen, koolborstels en mechanische contac-
ten. Omdat met de draaistroomtechniek een brede draaimoment-
en toerentalband beheerst kan worden, is het eisenpakket voor
deze nieuwe ontwikkeling qua verlanglijstje breed neergezet. De
BR 120 moet 200 km/h snelle InterCity-treinen en 5400 ton zware
goederentreinen trekken, bovendien met keertreinregeling en
elektrische recuperatierem uitgerust zijn.
De DB bestelt in 1977 vijf proefmachines, die op testbanken, op
testritten en in de bedrijfsinzet indringend beproefd werden.
Vergelijkende tests met andere locfabrikaten en optrektests op
de hellingen van de Lötschberg en de Semmering bevestigen
het prestatievermogen van de techniek. Het snelheidsrecord ligt
op 265 km/h. Tijdens de testfase lopen nieuwe ontwikkelingen
binnen, bijvoorbeeld microprocessoren voor snellere regeling.
Steeds weer worden componenten verbeterd, tot alle vijf
machines in 1982 technisch op dezelfde stand gebracht zijn en
ze serierijp geworden zijn.
Tijdens de meerjarige ontwikkelingsfase is echter de aanschaf-
politiek veranderd. In plaats van allround-locs geeft men weer
de voorkeur aan speciale locs op basis van gemeenschappelijke
ontwikkelingsplatforms met veel gelijke constructieve onderde-
len. Van de BR 120 wordt derhalve slechts een eerste bouwserie
van 60 stuks aangeschaft. De prototypen worden verder voor
proeven gebruikt, de serielocomotieven bewijzen zich in het
dagelijkse spoorbedrijf.

Sicherheitshinweise
• Die Lok darf nur mit einem dafür bestimmten Betriebssystem
(Märklin Wechselstrom-Transformator 6647, Märklin Delta,
Märklin Digital oder Märklin Systems) eingesetzt werden.
Nur Transformatoren verwenden, die Ihrer örtlichen
Netzspannung entsprechen.
Keinesfalls Transformatoren für eine Netzspannung von
220 V bzw. 110 V einsetzen.
• Die Lok darf nur aus einer Leistungsquelle gleichzeitig
versorgt werden.
• Beachten Sie unbedingt die Sicherheitshinweise in der
Gebrauchsanleitung zu Ihrem Betriebssystem.
• Für den konventionellen Betrieb der Lok muss das Anschluss-
gleis entstört werden. Dazu ist das Entstörset 74046 zu ver-
wenden. Für Digitalbetrieb ist das Entstörset nicht geeignet.
WARNUNG! Dieses Produkt enthält Magnete. Das Verschlucken von mehr
als einem Magneten kann unter Umständen tödlich wirken. Gegebenenfalls

suppression set is to be used for this purpose.

Remarques importantes sur la sécurité

• La locomotive ne peut être alimentée en courant que par une
seule source de courant.

sécurité décrites dans le mode d’emploi en ce qui concerne
le système d’exploitation.
• Pour l’exploitation de la locomotive en mode conventionnel,
la voie de raccordement doit être déparasitée. A cet effet,
utiliser le set de déparasitage réf. 74046. Le set de déparasita-
ge ne convient pas pour l’exploitation en mode numérique.

Veiligheidsvoorschriften
• De loc mag alleen met een daarvoor bestemd bedrjfssysteem
(Märklin wisselstroom transformator 6647, Märklin Delta,
Märklin digitaal of Märklin Systems) gebruikt worden.
Alleen transformatoren gebruiken die geschikt zijn voor de
bij u geldende netspanning.
In geen geval transformatoren voor een netspanning van
220 V dan wel 110 V gebruiken.
• De loc mag niet vanuit meer dan één stroomvoorziening
gelijktijdig gevoed worden.
• Voor het conventionele bedrijf met de loc dient de aansluitrail
te worden ontstoort. Hiervoor dient men de ontstoor-set 74046
te gebruiken. Voor het digitale bedrijf is deze ontstoor-set niet
geschikt.
• Lees ook aandachtig de veiligheidsvoorschriften in de gebru-
iksaanwijzing van uw bedrijfssysteem.
LET OP! Dit product bevat magneten. Het inslikken van meer dan één
magneet kan onder bepaalde omstandigheden de dood tot gevolg hebben.

Aviso de seguridad
• La locomotora solamente debe funcionar en un sistema de
corriente propio (Märklin corriente alterna – transformador
6647 – Märklin Delta – Märklin Digital o Märklin Systems).
Utilizar únicamente transformadores que correspondan a
la tensión de red local.
En ningún caso utilizar transformadores para una tensión
de red de 220 V o bien 110 V.
• La locomotora no deberá recibir corriente eléctrica mas que
de un solo punto de abasto.
• Para el funcionamiento convencional de la locomotora deben
suprimirse las interferencias en la vía de conexión de la
alimentación. Para ello debe emplearse el set supresor de
interferencias 74046. El set supresor de interferencias no es
adecuado para el funcionamiento en modo digital.
• Observe bajo todos los conceptos, las medidas de seguridad
indicadas en las instrucciones de su sistema de funcionami-
ento.

Avvertenze per la sicurezza
• Tale locomotiva deve essere impiegata soltanto con un siste-
ma di funzionamento adeguato per questa (trasformatore per
corrente alternata Märklin 6647, Märklin Delta, Märklin Digital
oppure Märklin Systems).
Impiegare solamente dei trasformatori che corrispondono
alle loro tensioni di rete locali.
Non si impieghino in nessun caso dei trasformatori per una
tensione di rete di 220 V o rispettivamente 110 V.
• La locomotiva non deve venire alimentata nello stesso tempo
con più di una sorgente di potenza.
• Per il funzionamento tradizionale della locomotiva il binario di
alimentazione deve essere protetto dai disturbi. A tale scopo
si deve impiegare il corredo antidisturbi 74046. Tale corredo
antidisturbi non è adatto per il funzionamento Digital.
• Vogliate prestare assolutamente attenzione alle avvertenze
di sicurezza nelle istruzioni di impiego per il Vostro sistema di
funzionamento.

Säkerhetsanvisningar
• Loket får endast köras med ett därtill avsett driftsystem
(Märklin Växelström-transformator 6647, Märklin Delta,
Märklin Digital eller Märklin Systems).
Använd endast transformatorer som är avsedda för den
nätspänning som tillhandahålls av er elleverantör.
Anslut aldrig en transformator för 220 V nätspänning till
110 V - eller tvärt om.
• Loket får inte samtidigt försörjas av mer än en kraftkälla.
• När motorvagnens lokdel ska köras med konventionell/ana-
log drift måste anlutningsskenan vara avstörd. Till detta
använder man anslutningsgarnityr 74046 med avstörning och
överbelastningsskydd. Avstörningsskyddet får inte användas
vid digital körning.
• Beakta alltid säkerhetsanvisningarna i bruksanvisningen som
hör till respektive driftsystemet.

Vink om sikkerhed
• Lokomotivet må kun bruges med et driftssystem (Märklin vek-
selstrøm-transformator 6647, Märklin Delta, Märklin Digital
eller Märklin Systems), der er beregnet dertil.
Anvend kun transformatorer, der passer til den lokale
netspænding.
Anvend aldrig transformatorer der er beregnet til en
netspænding på 220 V eller 110 V.
• Lokomotivet må ikke forsynes fra mere end én strømkilde ad
gangen.
• Ved konventionel drift af lokomotivet skal tilslutningssporet
støjdæmpes. Dertil skal anvendes støjdæmpningssættet
74046. Støjdæmpningssættet er ikke egnet til digital drift.
• Vær under alle omstændigheder opmærksom på de vink om sik-
kerhed, som findes i brugsanvisningen for Deres driftssystem.

Lokparameter einstellen mit der Control Unit
1. Voraussetzung: Aufbau wie Grafik S. 24.
Nur die zu verändernde Lok ist auf dem Gleis.
2. „Stop“- und „Go“-Taste gleichzeitig drücken, bis „99“ in der
Anzeige aufblinkt.
3. „Stop“-Taste drücken.
4. Lokadresse „80“ eingeben.
5. Umschaltbefehl am Fahrregler halten. Während des Haltens
die „Go“-Taste drücken.
6. Licht der Lok blinkt langsam. Wenn nicht, ab Schritt 2 wie-
derholen.
7. Registernummer für den zu ändernden Parameter eingeben
(=> Liste auf Seite 26).
8. Fahrtrichtungswechsel betätigen.
9. Licht blinkt schnell.
10. Neuen Wert eingeben (=> Liste auf Seite 26).
11. Fahrtrichtungswechsel betätigen.
12. Licht blinkt langsam (Ausnahme Werkreset).
13. Nächste Parametereinstellung ab 6. oder beenden mit 14.
14. Vorgang beenden mit Drücken der „Stop“- Taste. Anschlie-
ßend Drücken der „Go“-Taste.
Central Station/Mobile Station:
siehe jeweilige Gerätebeschreibung.
„Änderungen der Lokparameter im Decoder dürfen nur wie beschrieben
ausgeführt werden. Für darüber hinaus gehende Änderungen, die zu Fehl-
verhalten oder Beschädigung des Decoders führen, haftet Märklin nicht;
eventuelle nötige Reparaturen werden kostenpflichtig ausgeführt.“
Setting Locomotive Parameters with the Control Unit
1. Requirement: Setup as in diagram on page 24. Only the
locomotive to be changed can be on the track.
2. Press the “Stop” and “Go” at the same time until “99” blinks
in the display.
3. Press the “Stop” button.
4. Enter the locomotive address „80“.
5. Hold the control knob in the reverse direction area. While
holding the control knob here, press the „Go“ button.
6. The headlights on the locomotive will blink slowly. If they
don‘t, repeat Step 2.
7. Enter the register number for the parameter to be changed
(=> List on page 26).
8. Active the change of direction.
9. The headlights will blink rapidly.
10. Enter the new value (=>List on page 26).
11. Active the change of direction.
12. The headlights will blink slowly (exception: factory reset).
13. Enter the next parameter setting from 6 or end with 14.
14. End the process by pressing the „Stop“ button. Then press
the „Go“ button.
