Safety Precautions
To ensure that instruments are operated correctly and safely, Mitutoyo manuals use
various safety symbols (Signal Words and Safety Alert Symbols) to identify and warn
against hazards and potential accidents.
The following signs indicate general warnings:
DANGER
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in serious

IMPORTANT
An important note provides information essential to use the product. You cannot
disregard this note.
An important note is a type of precaution, which if neglected could result in degraded
performance or accuracy, or instrument malfunction/failure.
NOTE
A note provides information to be especially noted or supplemented to use the product.
A note also supplies information to be noted for specific operations (e.g., memory
limitation, instrument configuration, or details that apply to specific versions of a
program).
TIP
A tip is a type of note that helps the user to apply the operation method and procedures
to his or her specific conditions.
A tip also indicates the reference destination if there is information to be referred to.

Warning Labels
Product Safety Labels
This measuring instrument has been designed and manufactured with human safety taken
as a major consideration. Additionally, in order to use it more safely, Product Safety
Labels have been applied to the main unit and all peripheral devices. This section
describes the label application places and warning information at each place.
Before operating the measuring instrument, be sure to carefully read this section to use it
safely for an extended period of service life.

Safety Precautions
Purpose of Use
This product must only be used for measuring workpieces that match the specified characteristics, mass,
and external dimensions. ”6.1 System Specification”(page 6-1)
Dangerous actions
Incorrectly using this product may lead to a dangerous situation.
WARNING
•Do not modify or disassemble the machine, as this may cause fire or electric shock
•Do not install the machine on an unstable table, as this may cause injury due to
dropping or falling.
•Do not place a case with water and a vase, etc., around the machine. When the water
get inside the machine, it may cause fire or electric shock. In case the water, etc., get
inside the machine, first unplug the power cord from the outlet then contact your dealer
or the nearest Mitutoyo sales office.
•Do not use the machine in locations where volatile gases could be generated, as this
may cause fire.
•Use under the specified power supply voltage. Do not use under the unspecified power
supply voltage, as this may cause fire or electric shock.
WARNING
•Do not rework, bend by force, twist and yank the power code, as this may cause fire or
electric shock.
•Wear protective shoes to avoid injury from unexpected falling of some objects.

CAUTION
•Placing objects or your hands on the machine cover could become the cause of an
accident. Don't place any objects near the machine.
•Do not touch this machine during operation. The unit is a motor-driven measuring
machine. To prevent your hands or objects being accidentally pinched during
measurement, do not go near the machine while it is operating.
•When performing the maintenance, be sure to unplug the power cord for safety.
If the maintenance is performed while connecting the power cord, it may cause electric
shock.
•Do not pull the power cord when unplugging it, as this may damage the cord and cause
fire or electric shock.
•Do not insert or pull out the plug with wet hands, as this may cause fire or electric shock.
•Do not bring the power cord close to the heated equipment, as this may melt the
sheathing of the cord and cause fire or electric shock.
•For the battery used equipment only
Use only specified battery. If the unspecified battery is used, it may cause fire or injury
due to the explosion or leaking, etc., of the battery.
When installing the battery in the equipment, set the battery poles correctly by following
the instruction of the equipment. If the battery is installed incorrectly, it may cause fire or
injury due to explosion or leaking, etc., of the battery.
•Do not exert external forces to the machine, as this may cause failure, damage or
deterioration in accuracy.
•When installing/replacing the accessories, do not pinch or hit the finger, as this may
cause injury.
•Be sure to use the specified accessories in the user’s manual for the machine. If the
unspecified accessories are used, it may cause fire, electric shock or failure.

Residual Risk
Electrical dangers
●There is a risk of electric shock if the power supply is inappropriate.
・Before starting the product for the first time, check that the grounding is functional.
・To avoid electric shocks, always check that the product is grounded. The grounding must be checked
even when connecting to the two-wire system power line with an adapter. This increases noise
resistance.
●Coming into contact with energized parts or parts with damaged insulation may lead to death or
serious injury.
・Do not remove the cover or touch areas with an electric-shock label while the main body of the
measuring instrument is powered.
・Do not clean the product with a high-pressure washer.
・Electrical work on the product must be performed by a licensed technician.
・If a connected cable is damaged, immediately turn off the power. For repairs, contact your dealer
or Mitutoyo.
・Use only the power cable that is supplied with this product.
・Do not allow water to enter the internal parts of the product during cleaning.
Mechanical dangers
＜Moving parts＞
●Do not apply excessive loads to the product. The product may be damaged.
●There is a risk of injury due to sharp edges such as handles that adjust the X and Z axis positions
and cover.
●If you hold the up / down handle with the measuring main unit removed, a strong force will be applied
upwards, and there is a risk of injury.

＜Workpieces＞
●If the workpiece falls during movement or while it is secured, it may cause serious injury.
・Do not place the workpiece in an unstable location. Do not place the workpiece in a position outside
of the measuring range of the product.
・Do not place tools or other unnecessary objects on the measuring table.
・When a heavy workpiece is moved or placed, ensure that there are no people other than the
operator nearby.
・When a heavy workpiece is moved or placed, ensure that there are no people other than the
operator nearby.
・When placing a small or light workpiece, always hold it firmly with both hands.
・When handling workpieces, use protective equipment that is appropriate for the size, weight, and
shape of the workpiece.
●If the workpiece falls while the product is in operation, death or serious injury may occur.
・Do not measure the workpiece unless it is completely secured.
・Do not place tools or other unnecessary objects on the measuring table while measuring.
・Use protective equipment when handling a workpiece.
●Moving a workpiece that is placed on an auxiliary surface plate may lead to serious injury. In
particular, if there is a substance such as oil on the upper surface of the measuring table, the
adhesion may require a strong force to move the auxiliary surface plate. If a strong force
overcomes the adhesion between the auxiliary surface plate and the measuring table, only the
auxiliary surface plate that has been pushed with a strong force may suddenly glide away,
causing the workpiece to fall on your feet.
・When moving the auxiliary surface table and the workpiece on the measuring table, always move
the auxiliary surface table and the workpiece separately.
●There is a risk of injury when handling workpieces with sharp edges or corners.
●Placing a workpiece on the turntable that exceeds the maximum loading mass may damage the
turntable or the product.
・Observe the maximum loading mass for the workpiece.
・Place the workpiece within the measurement range.
・When placing a workpiece, be careful that you do not apply any strong shocks to the workpiece.

＜Detector or stylus＞
●If the detector or stylus collides with the turntable or workpiece, the tip may break and fragments may
enter your eyes.
●Dropping the detector or stylus by mistake may lead to injury.
●Dropping the detector or stylus by mistake may lead to damage.
●If either detector or stylus is not correctly secured, it may fall when the moving parts operate and
lead to injury.
＜Cables＞
●Tripping over the cables may lead to injury.
・Install cables so that they are not a tripping risk.
Other dangers
●Insufficient lighting in the operating environment may lead to serious injury.
・If the lighting is broken or insufficient, do not operate the product.
●If a cleaning solution such as a neutral detergent thinned with water and ethanol comes into contact
with your skin or enters your eyes, serious injury may occur.
・Choose a non-toxic cleaning solution.
・Ensure that cleaning solutions such as a neutral detergent thinned with water and ethanol will not
come into contact with your skin or enter your eyes by using the protective equipment
・Wash your hands thoroughly after using or touching cleaning solutions such as a neutral detergent
thinned with water and ethanol before eating, drinking, or smoking.
●If these devices are damaged, the operator may make an incorrect determination and be injured.
・Damaged display devices must be replaced immediately. Contact your dealer or a Mitutoyo sales
representative for a replacement.
・Before starting the operation, check that all display devices function properly.
・If a display device is broken, immediately stop operations and turn off the power.

Precautions for Use
To use this unit safely ensure a full performance of this unit, read this User's Manual
thoroughly before use.
This User’s Manual covers CV-2100N4 and CV-2100M4.
Both models are referred to as "CV-2100" in this User’s Manual. For the description that is
specific to one of the models, "CV-2100N4" or "CV-2100M4" is noted. Unless
"CV-2100N4" or "CV-2100M4" is noted, the description should apply to both models.
Observe the following cautions to maintain the accuracy and functions of this unit for an
extended period of time.
● Operators must understand the content of this document and receive training
from Mitutoyo
● This system is a measuring machine for one operator.
Do not use this system for any purpose other than such measurement.
● This system is a precision machine.
Exercise great care when handling this machine. Never bump or apply excessive force to
any of the parts during operation.
● Rectify the installation environments. (For detailed information, refer to "2.
INSTALLTION".)
•Free of dust and dirt
•Free of vibration
•Close to 20°C in ambient temperature
•Free of extreme humidity
● Do not place objects on the measuring main unit .
Placing objects other than a workpiece or your hands on the machine base could become
the cause of an accident. Don't place any objects near the machine.
● Do not touch this machine during operation.
This unit is a motor-driven measuring machine. To prevent your hands or objects being
accidentally pinched during measurement, do not go near the machine while it is
operating.
● Gently fix a workpiece on the stage.
If the base is subject to large impact, it could be damaged. Exercise sufficient care in fixing
a workpiece.
Particularly, pay attention so as not to apply an impact to the T-groove provided on the
base.
● Pay attention to working clothes and shoes.
•Wearing slippers is prohibited; make sure to wear safety shoes.
•The heat radiated by the human body can influence measurements.
•Also wear long sleeves to avoid abrasions or the like caused by the edges of the
workpiece.

● Be sure to turn off the power during connection and maintenance.
To avoid accidents or electric shock due to malfunction of the machine under operation, be
sure to turn off the power before performing connection or maintenance.
● Be careful of unexpected movement when replacing the workpiece.
When replacing the workpiece, exercise care to avoid personal injury due to sudden
unexpected movement of the machine.
● Power supply
This product is a class I device, so be sure to provide protective grounding.
Otherwise, it could cause electric shock or product damage.
For information about the power source or electrical work, contact a licensed electrician or
other qualified individual.
● Power cord
Only use the supplied power cord. If there is something wrong with the power cord or
power connectors, contact Mitutoyo. Defective parts should be replaced by a Mitutoyo
service engineer.
● Power off in case of emergency
If an emergency cutoff of the power to this product is required, pull out the power cable
from this product.
● Fuses
To prevent fire or damage to the internal circuits, use only the specified fuse. When
replacing the fuse, use the supplied spare fuse or a fuse with the same shape and ratings
(voltage and current).
● Removing the cover and disassembling the machine
This machine is precisely adjusted, and is comprised of high-voltage parts. In order to
prevent accident and to maintain the performance, do not absolutely remove the cover on
the machine.
● Danger prevention
In order to prevent danger, do not use the machine in locations where volatile gases could
be generated.
● Maintenance
Gently wipe off dirt from the machine using a lint-free and soft cloth. If the dirt is difficult to
remove, wipe it clean with a cloth soaked in neutral detergent, then wipe lightly with a dry
cloth or a cloth well-wrung after soaking in water. Do not use organic solvents such as
thinner or benzine.
● Take special shielding measures when using the machine in the following
locations:
•Where noise is generated due to static electricity
•Near strong electric fields
•Where power source lines pass nearby
•Where there is a risk of radioactivity

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
This product complies with the EMC Directive and the UK Electromagnetic Compatibility
Regulations; however, if this receives electromagnetic interference that exceeds these
requirements, it will be out of warranty and require appropriate measures.
This product is an industrial product, and is not intended to be used in residential
environment. If this product is used in residential environment, this product may cause
electromagnetic interference with other instruments. In such a case, it is required to take
appropriate measures for preventing such electromagnetic interference.

Warranty
This product has been manufactured under strict quality management, but should it
develop problems within one year of the date of purchase in normal use, repair shall be
performed free of charge. Please contact the agent where you purchased the product or
Mitutoyo sales representative. This warranty, however, shall not affect any provisions of
the Mitutoyo Software End User License Agreement.
If this product fails or is damaged for any of the following reasons, it will be subject to a
repair charge, even if it is still under warranty.
•Failure or damage owing to fair wear and tear
•Failure or damage owing to inappropriate handling, maintenance or repair, or to
unauthorized modification
•Failure or damage owing to transport, dropping, or relocation of the product after
purchase
•Failure or damage owing to fire, salt, gas, abnormal voltage, lightning surge, or
natural disaster
•Failure or damage owing to use in combination with hardware or software other than
those designated or permitted by Mitutoyo
•Failure or damage owing to use in ultra-hazardous activities
This warranty is effective only where the product is properly installed and operated in
conformance with the instructions in this manual within the original country of the
installation.
EXCEPT AS SPECIFIED IN THIS WARRANTY, ALL EXPRESS OR IMPLIED
CONDITIONS, REPRESENTATIONS, AND WARRANTIES OF ANY NATURE
WHATSOEVER INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NONINFRINGEMENT
OR WARRANTY ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING, USAGE, OR TRADE
PRACTICE, ARE HEREBY EXCLUDED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT ALLOWED BY
APPLICABLE LAW.
